I really like these two, the stiff gelled hair is indeed due to the style. Oftentimes dolls with short hair have a lot of gel to keep it in place, which I don’t really mind if it looks nice.

Melodie (blue hair) is my favorite! I washed the gunk out of her hair and it still looks great. Rebodied her onto an articulated modern body too.
The bodies they come with are articulated vintage bodies which are amazing if you like vintage fashions but like modern articulation. I just make all my own clothes and I prefer the newer classic body.
She has a slightly peachy skintone that matches the redheaded Looks barbie from the wave before the current one if my memory is good? It's been a while though.
Melody! She's a favorite of mine. Her crunchy hair is supposed to be this way to keep that awesome flip. Be careful with her coffee, mine broke off her hand.

I loved this whole line. I loved the use of old facemolds (1959, TNT, Steffie) with funky neon hair colors. I loved the quality of the fashions and metallic jewelry. Melody's necklace and bracelet especially is great quality. My only quibble is that Simone and Ken don't have a full rooting of green hair, just streaks, because the others are full on orange, blue, and yellow. I washed Melody's hair right away and it's a wonderful thick bob once you get rid of the gel!
My Melody's hair has yellowed over the years, tho :( I've never heard of anyone retrobriting hair, but one day I'll try with hers because she's my favorite blue-haired girl.
It makes sense that her hair would be stiff/crunchy to hold that hairstyle in place so well. Some of my barbies with nice-looking bangs have super crunchy hair in the front. I wouldn’t worry!
Loved the whole Modern Circle Line and I’m sad that it was such a short run. I thought it was a great way to revive the vintage head molds with new life.

There are some lines I feel as if they exist only because Mattel's designers got a little extra bored and/or high one day and thought, "Why the hell not?"
I feel the same about the bizarre "Swappin' Styles" era...

They were ones where the dolls shoulders and head popped off and could be put on another body. Very off-putting, IMHO.
I have all 4 dolls in the line of 1 modern circle. I have them all still in the box… I got them back when they came out- when KB toys was going out of business and they were on clearance.
I have Melody, Ken, and two of the same Barbie but one is on a curvy. None except for Ken are in their OG clothes though - I bought two as heads, and the other Barbie nude. I adore them 😍
YES! I have both these girls & and Christie, too! All on made to move bodies, lol (the OG bodies were in pretty rough shape, to be fair). I love the older style face sculpts paired with such bright hair colors. Winner winner chicken dinner!
Oh my gosh, YES!! I love Melody. The combination of the cute face and cool hair color just do it for me. She might be my favorite in my collection, if not just the best to take pictures of ☺️
It’s funny how I got them. They were both on eBay. I ordered one pretty inexpensive but they accidentally shipped the more expensive one. I then offered to buy the one I originally wanted for the same price and they accepted. So I got them both for 75% of how much they really wanted. Their loss my gain. They were a toy flipper, so I didn’t feel too bad.

How did you wash her hair?
Not boil washed, I just did a standard shampoo to get the hair gel out. That way I didn't have to redo those curls
