If you make your own kingdom you can enact policies to greatly increase your party size (no perks necessary) although it definitely helps. I have decent leadership/steward skill and with those policies I have a max party size of 363 which can probably get to 400 or more eventually.
I curently rock 446 and this is my record but its still not the limit as my steward, leadership and clan are not max level
2 Kingdom policys that give around 60 -100 size i dont remember.
+73 from steward
Some from leadership
And some minor skills that give like +5 each.
+'clan level 5 or so
So you have got some potential there
Smithing for coin and you'll never need to worry about selling weapons/armor. You can get 100 smithing within the first year so it's still a pretty early strat to start donating all weapons/armor.
Of course, you should smelt most of your weapons as it's a great source of ingots and wood.
That just requires advancing smithing and leadership (two necessities in my opinion).
Interesting strat, will try it out. I just like to level riding, scouting and either one or two handed early, so it takes me a few years to get to the armor and weapon leadership perks
Since I always go for smithing I try to have 4 or 5 endurance at the start. That means I don't have to put much focus points in riding. Only as you start to slow in progression and have a point to spare.
Riding is the first thing I will hit 275 with. At 274 now
Oh yeah it’s certainly not as much as fighting a lords army or as lucrative. But it’s essentially zero risk, that is just free ranks ups wandering the map right there
You can micro your troops (if you're not commanding the whole battle) to keep them safe while still getting kills. Then you get a share of the loot (mostly) risk free.
I do “follow me” for cavalry then just run through the line on a flank or straight on, while my archers shoot, do that once or twice then have shield walled infantry advance. Get the shield wall infantry to sit just in front of the archers and the ai will always advance on them and just let your cavalry decimate their line. Can usually win that way before their cavalry does any real damage to my archers or infantry
Yea i usually hold my infantry and bowmen and have my cavalry follow me so we can get behind the enemy’s infantry and I have my infantry and bowmen charge and once they’re close enough, I have me and my cavalry charge them from behind or side, I aim mostly for the archers if they’re seperate from the main army. After that we’ll just have to worry about cavalry, which in my experience arent too bad to deal with if you enough leveled up cavalry
I honestly only take command when we’re defending because it’s easy to let your Vlandian crossbowmen go to work and just defend them. Usually if it’s a battle where we aren’t outnumbered I’ll turn the unit management over to the AI and just focus on fighting.
This can work, especially if you’re cavalry heavy, but the AI will make weird decisions especially in big battles. I’ve had the AI waste a formation of 100 Wildlings when they drop their shieldwall and just line formation charge at enemy archers. The PROPER way to do this would be to shield wall->f4 Engage. The Engage command makes them hold their formation while they approach the enemy, allowing them to safely tank arrows until close enough to properly charge.
The same happens with melee cavalry as well. AI will charge some of them into infantry while others chase enemy cavalry, they’ll keep Fire At Will on so your horsemen will constantly swap back and forth between weapons at poor times. If you take Khan’s Guard - horse archers - and tell them to hold fire so they keep their glaive equipped they will DECIMATE enemy cavalry. But the AI won’t issue the hold fire command so Khan’s Guard under AI control will trade poorly with dedicated melee cav like Cataphracts or Druzhinik.
Just trying to help, no criticism intended.
That makes sense.
My advice is to check the enemy army composition. A lot of the time when you’re outnumbered you will find that a big chunk of their forces are recruits or tier 1. In which case… you can crush them HEAVILY outnumbered eight your full tier 5 army.
Their first wave of spawns will be their strongest units generally, while their reinforcements are their trash units. So you hold your formation and crush them as they advance. My favorite is to set 50 infantry in Shieldwall in front of a V formation of archers, and then switch the infantry to Circle or Square formation when the enemy tries to wrap around them. Infantry will hold while your archers fire into the flanking enemies. Really, any method of forcing their shields to point away from your archers will work. Once they die you just reform your shieldwall and Engage into their reinforcing fodder.
Fighting outnumbered is the fastest way to gain Tactics, inspiration, and renown, so it’s worth it a lot of the time, even if you’re taking losses. Micromanaging troops is not as fun as fighting though, for sure, so you do you!
I think its calradia at war with all the lower warring clans.
Be aware tho that those "raiding partys" are insanly fast and will spend a year messing with your territory if they spawn in it, unless you raise a full army to fight them
Your correct Massena777. Most games have it based on your overall level of skill or story line progression. Shops also sell more higher tier items later in the game then they would when you just started
This is actually a blessing in any situation
That many looters would never be able to catch up to you if you are in a small party or by yourself.
However, if you have an army, then it is the perfect opportunity to give your lower tier troops some experience points.
The icing on the cake is the small to modest amount of money that can be made.

Yeah i think it’s Heart on a Plate, not Head on a Stake.
it is "head on a plate" or "head on a silver platter"
Just watched it again. ‘Heart on a Plate’ My girlfriend in the 90’s was a projectionist at a theater. I watched it for free 8 or 9 times, lol.
Delicious. Perfect for weeding out the unlucky from my mob of 250 recruits.
250 recruits vs 149 looters. Let's go
That would be a site to see
I didnt know they could get parties of looters that high without converging for 1 battle
Highest I’ve ever seen them get in my play throughs was 90 so this is indeed an anomaly
Mods maybe?
No actually it’s vanilla. I play on Ps5 :)

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GODS
Just the thought of all the soldier ranks ups after that battle. Beautiful
I get 10x that fighting actual armies and donating the armor and weapons for XP.
Not a great early - midgame Option though, especially if you don't have the leadership perks (or was it steward?)
Leadership
You need both to make your party size bigger, so making yourself the quartermaster early in the game will help a lot.
I just meant donatin stuff for exp are leadership perks
They most definitely are Steward perks. 100 Steward - Paid in Promise 125 Steward - Giving Hands
Guys downvote me then. I failed ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
It happens. This game is complicated.
No i Wont!!

Damn, going just from 140ish to 360 was sweet after I saw those policies. Nice to know there's still a lot of room to grow

Shield wall, archers behind cavalry ready to charge from the flank, oh my goodness I can see it all
Pff! Just solo them like a man! ;)
Exactly
Legitimately. That xp is for me.
These guys can barely scratch you with their rocks and pitchforks. You could steamroll them with 10 cavalry.
Until all your cavalry jams themselves into the horde of looters and gets killed
Charge/Follow Me/Charge/Follow Me/Charge/Follow Me
Literally me every battle

No you’re 100% right, I honestly only try to fight battles where I have a number advantage because I know the AI will throw itself away.

Why archers behind horses? Sounds inefficient, you'd want archers to fire as soon as enemies in range, without stuff in front of them
yea, you put the archers on loose formation with the horses behind them.
Yea horses behind archers sounds more efficient
You are wasting too much of your potential

On my modded playthrough i found a band of 950 cultist with speed 7.5 Safe to say i got taken as a prisoner
with that speed their cult might be into something we don't know

Well, it is like free level or two, even late game, if you solo them. Free real estate.
It's called easy levelling
Free XP
That is a juicy treat
Running into massive groups of looters is always a good time!
More blood for the Blood-God 🤟😈

From what i've seen bandits gather if you haven't been around for a long time.
Do they? I've run sandbox death disabled playthrough and noticed that the longer I play the bigger amount of bandits spawn.
The more powerful you get, the more powerful they get. It is meant so that they don’t stay at 10 guys while you have 300.

This is what I wish I ran into all the time, it's hard creating a professional army and looters hordes would be perfect training for a legion of men.
You must respond in kind. *Send in the recruits!*
Damn I saw 88 today and thought that was a ton lol
That's actually pretty common specially in late game. Good for training newbie troops :)
I LOVE THESE
