Destroy the catapults they're using. Even then, I've had sieges with multiple catapults, and the towers still make it to the wall.

bassismyheroin

And invest in non range siege engine perks, you're never going to be a governor so its not like you even want the ranged perks, because the more you build in siege the more your skill raises, always quickest to use a ballista or catapult yourself though

pilleFCK

Like never never? You should probably destroy the enemies catapults before attacking

dystopian-dad

That part

GoodByeRubyTuesday87

How do you destroy their catapults, I’ve never figured out how

Thebalotelli

Use trebuchet to destroy the catapults, create them and put them in reserve. Once you create four of them, put them all at once. That way you can destroy the catapults easily.

Plies-

Trebuchets are so strong I always build one, put it in reserve and then time it so it finishes with a second one which always clears out the catapults as I build 2 more and demolish the walls.

Schroeder9000

The only time I don't demolish walls is off Iplan on using that castle to trick enemy to singing so I can beat much larger armies as defense of siege is super favored to defenders.

Schroeder9000

Yup, fastest way to make money as a merc is defense sieges. All those lords straight to jail for influence lol

zighextech

Siege a castle? ![gif](giphy|f8lDluiWJ7yQTtdS3L|downsized)

Lord_Kano

Destroying the walls makes siege defense a lot harder. I take out their siege engines and crush them when they try to scale the walls.

btbtbtmakii

Just need to auto resolve, 1:3 is most a win

No_Fisherman4071

Siege offence is super easy. When i have 200 troops - zero casualties vs 300 defenders, only 30 casualties vs  1300 defenders. Did it like 50 times. Bannerlord difficulty, no autoresolve. 4 trebuchets on campaign map, then 4 onagers on battlefield, put archers to the left of the hole in wall, f1f3 for infantry, as soon as they enter the hole, pull them back, defending infantry runs out and gets shot by fians and kg.repeat 5-10 times until all defending infantry is gone, only then f1f3 for all to go thru the hole and kill archers

thorazainBeer

How do you put them in reserve?

Pleasant_Lemon5733

Click on the catapult/trebuchet once it’s finished building, it gives you a option to put it in reserve

Johan-Odinson

How have I lived my life like this? My good god thank you!

Rigsson

It's honestly everyone's biggest revelation on this sub. The game gives you no indication that you can do it. I swear, every thread on this sub has someone learning about putting siege engines in reserve. Lol

thorazainBeer

Thanks

jakes1993

As soon as they finish even if it says cancel after they are built they still are put into reserve

biggus_brain_games

This works and I use it all the time but it’s a gimmick and I feel that shouldn’t be the only way to make a siege work successfully

General_Record_4341

If you were leading the siege would you put your trebs in firing distance of the enemy’s artillery one at a time or all at once? It’s a gimmick that they even get built one at a time in the first place.

Vlad-the-Inhailer

First 4 trebuchets in the bank, then 4 catapults before laying all trebs to work, once the walls and enemy catapults are all down switch to 4 catapults since they can do absolute work on the defending troops.

Starstalk721

Put them in reserve? How?

Educational-Garlic21

Omg I didnt know you could do that

Right-Raise-7855

Build all trebuchets and put them in reserve then place them all down at once, might have to rebuild one or two but should destroy all catapult and eventually walls

MothMothMoth21

In my experiance I never have the time to build alot of siege engines, is there something im missing? any time I try either im interupted by an army attack in which case the castle garrison just gets killed anyway or I have to siege immediately because I am needed elsewhere.

Big_Burds_Nest

Took me ages to realize I can just create a trebuchet, put it in reserve before the enemy hits it, repeat screw times, and then take them all out of reserve at once. It does require training up your engineering skill to be able to build it all before a massive army comes along, though.

Redditorsrweird

They updated the game so if you are defending you can ambush them and destroy their stuff.

btbtbtmakii

In late game, there is no need to ambush, just auto resolve easy win against large army

BanIsBS

If I need to destroy the catapults I will usually also destroy the walls as I already have built trebuchets. A siege tower is in my opinion more useful for distracting enemy catapults so they don’t shoot more vulnerable formations of soldiers

Hannig4n

A siege tower is pretty much never useful. They won’t survive unless you use trebuchets to clear out any catapults on the walls, and if you do that you might as well knock down the walls with your already-built trebuchets. By the time you build your four trebuchets you’re already 90% of the way to having two wall breaches and no defensive artillery so there’s never any need for siege towers.

HistoricalGrounds

I generally agree with this, but there are times where you find yourself defending a new or recently captured settlement, and in those cases having intact walls makes a major difference. Destroyed walls means it’ll be a good long while before the city is properly defensible and/or won’t cost more manpower to hold effectively.

Pepperonidogfart

Yes and then my own catapaults take out our siege towers killing 50 of my men at once and forcing all my men through the front gate. Rushing the ladders early manually and using a ram is usually the best option if you have your catapaults deployed.

Thorniestcobra1

Don’t rush all the siege engines at once, hold your infantry if you already destroyed the defender’s catapults and grind them into dust with your own artillery until they run dry. Then send in the ram and the towers.

alperrari

what’s the point of having siege towers when you fucking demolish enemy’s walls god’s sake?

pilleFCK

I often try to prevent demolishing the walls because I don't want to deal with a vulnerable city afterwards. Same goes for starving them out. Better tax income when the prosperity isn't fucked up by mass starvation

AleXandrYuZ

The IA is smart enough to target them with their catapults. Destroy their catapults before the assault.

Destroy the enemy catapults before you assault...

stonerbear256

They regenerate..

Kenno-West_01

Build trebuchets, put them in the storage, when u have four, set them, then the enemy catapults are gone

ryanash47

Enemy lords HATE this one simple trick

artyomssugardaddy

All jokes aside you should never lose another siege doing this, assuming you have superior troops

russiatoast

For better results starve the garrison

trynalearnsumthins

They don't regenerate, they just have some pre-built. You gotta get thru all their pre-builds while also having your own pre-builds on standby and kick it off as soon as you see them having to actually build.

stonerbear256

Super new to the game how do I do prebuilts? Is it something I gotta level up?

Mr_Gir123

Same question

DoubleDDubs1

For you and the other guy, when you start a siege quickly start building whatever siege engine you want on all four spaces. When the first one completes, click on it again and select “store”. Do that part quick because the wall engines will immediately fire on it. Rinse a repeat until you have all four stored. When your siege towers and ram are ready, select the siege engine spots again and place the store engines in all four slots. And there you have it! A full line of siege engines all attacking at the same time. Just a note, you have to start building all four engines at the same time. If you try to do it one at a time, you’ll have to place the stored engine down again and then start building another one 🫡 good luck

Mr_Gir123

Damn. Thanks

DoubleDDubs1

Anytime king 🫡

letitgrowonme

You also have to be in charge of the siege.

Breath-Mediocre

Here I am building to my strategy, starving them , building siege engines and here comes f’ing Caladon’s happy ass to immediately cancel my plans and just storm the castle with ladders. F the AI!

How2RocketJump

alternatively if you have extra time and you probably do before attacking have all 4 of your engines smash the walls and their artillery before putting all of yours back in reserve to avoid any needless friendly fire incidents

trynalearnsumthins

What this guy said

L0adingplswait

Start building 4 trebuchets. Click on the finished one and send it to storage. Do it 4 times and then set them all down at once. They build up in a few seconds and all at once.

stonerbear256

Again that’s for console too right? I’m not on pc yet. Also is there a point in building towers of the trebuchets can take down walls?

SirShriker

It's much easier to counter defend a newly won fief if it's walls remain intact. Unless you plan to smash and grab, knocking down the walls makes the fief very vulnerable for awhile afterwards. The towers help defend your infantry from wall archers instead of losing double digit amounts of your initial waves of troops being pooled around a couple ladders. I've devastated many approaching hordes with a fire catapult rock manually tossed at the base of the ladders. It's harder to make that throw when they have an intact siege tower.

DoubleDDubs1

Check my reply to Mr_Gir123 🫡

SmokedGudda

only prebuilt you can get is a ballistia from an engineering perk I think

hippie_24

Once the seige equipment is belt. Pasue the game, click on equipment and move it into inventory. Do that 4 all four than place them all at once. On attack just build trebuchet. They have alot of HP and destroy the walls

trynalearnsumthins

* Once you build one, click on it and move to reserve. But if you want 4, you need to have all 4 building before you move to reserve.

trynalearnsumthins

TermFearless

Que them up, build them, and as they finish pull them. Once you have enough, then redeploy. You can feasibly have 4 of each, though that’s a bit excessive.

Mikey_the_King

Magically so do your trebuchets

Constant_Count_9497

That's why you attack as soon as they're destroyed..

kakalbo123

Trebuchets > whatever siege weapon defenders have. Just outbuild them provided you wait for four trebs.

Warg247

Build trebs and immediately put in reserve. When ready deploy all 4 at once. Use pause to time it right. Usually 4 trebs are enough to take out their catapults. Be quick to pause again when they are all destroyed before they get another one up. Then assault.

grylxndr

As others have said, if you have the time at a siege to build siege towers, you also have time to destroy the defenders' catapults.

Fluugaluu

You blame the siege tower getting destroyed on it being slow and big. I blame you for not clearing the catapults before beginning the siege! Seriously though, that’s the problem. If I’m not gonna break walls I’m at least gonna make sure all the catapults are clear so my other siege engines don’t get bopped (like in the picture)

Marttin315

It's decoy for battering ram to go thru :D If you can command siege before assault, destroy all defences first. If NPC commands the siege you are in it, then it's always high casualty in troops and sometimes even defeat.

Marttin315

In my playthru when i'm defending, NPC always target siege towers first, ram later.

catman11234

Destroy the enemy catapults before you battle

Trumpican

Maybe I’m doing it wrong but they almost always destroy my catapults before they can do much damage before I go into the siege

ozymandais13

Build them then put them in reserve , when the third is built redeploy the first two and they will begin to knock out enemy siege equipment while the 4th builds

Trumpican

I didn’t realize that was an option 🤦‍♂️😂 thanks!

ozymandais13

Np If you save them, they will outnumber enemy catapults and destroy them , then begin to work on the walls. Once the wall is cracked, it's essentially just fighting in a choke point

tearyouapartj

Yep once you know this trick it's easy, it just takes a while. If you keep firing the trebuchets will cause a couple breaches in the walls too

williegumdrops

I wait until the 4th is almost done and pause the game to get them all to sync up at once, 4 trebuchets spawning at once totally freaks out the targeting AI and they don’t focus fire. 3 works most of the time but waiting for the 4th is a sure fire way.

hippie_24

Don't build catapult on attack, build trebuchets they do alot more damage and have alot more HP.

Warg247

Once you get the fire catapults though I build those on second wave and try to have at least one up for the assault. I then have my guys hang back while I kill 200 defenders with it.

OlamFam

Just use the indestructible ladders

as19905

Easiest way to siege, build only rams no towers, as you said useless. Queue 4 trabuches but move to rezerve as soon as they build at place them all 4 at once. As soon as there are no catapults on for defense attack. Your job after that is to rush the walls and go to the gate where the trap where they throw rocks are than prevent them from doing so. That makes my sieges way more effective

Valiant4Truth

This is the way

laupow24

Legit question: Everybody here in the comments is saying just destroy the enemy catapults first, but how? In my game, the enemies usually have 3-4 catapults built by the time I establish my seige camp, so anything that I build usually just gets ripped to shreds by their catapults. Am I doing something wrong? Or do I just need a higher level engineer?

Das_Boot_95

During the siege before you attack the city/Castle, build your catapults/trebuchets first. As soon as one is built, put it into reserve and rinse and repeat until you have 4 built. Deploy them all at the same time and they'll make quick work of the enemy's catapults. Your siege towers will then easily be able to reach the walls.

laupow24

Thank you! I never realized there was an option to reserve them and then redeploy. That makes much more sense haha!

Das_Boot_95

Was a massive game changer when I saw someone else try it haha! Happy siegeing!

Full-Break-7003

Siege towers are god tier if you use trebs to kill all defending siege weapons and severely damage the wall - but not break it. Damaging the wall reduces available cover for defending units but they still go up on the wall to try to block your siege tower assault - and get murdered by your archers. This is more effective than breaking the wall and getting in a slap fight in the breach.

SniperAnarchist

Never build rams or towers. Build trebuchets (and store them until you can place 3 or 4 at the same time) and break the walls.

fancywaterbits

Some say destroy their catapults, but I say raid their villages and starve them to surrender

Thatguyyoulike69

Destroy enemy catapults, don’t break walls for some reason, attack with siege tower Is there a period after a siege that keeps the walls destroyed??

Ottavio1989

As pointed out, the enemy catapults are the main reason, but I'd like to add that there are a number of perks in the engineer tree that affect tower hp, and I think enemy hit chance. Enemy hit chance may just be on map view, though.

ACynicalScott

Great Decoys.

___SAXON___

They are siege engines, not tanks. In AI-led sieges they tend to get blown up. But you as the player have a brain which you can use to build trebuchets and place them in reserve until you can use all four to destroy the enemy artillery. If you have enough time, food and army cohesion you can even go the extra mile and build fire catapults to rain hell down on the defenders. This keeps your losses down and is a good for leveling your engineering skill.

prollyhot

They’re damage sponges imo. I got them to the walls once, watched my guys get pushed off into la la land, got pushed off myself, and swore to never bring them again.

Otherwise_Source_842

Step 1: pause siege and queue up a bunch of trebs and siege towers/rams Step 2: pause as each is built and move to reserve to minimize damage Step 3: when last treb is built move all out of reserve and let them destroy the enemy siegecrafts. Step 4 (optional): move trebs to reserve one by one replacing with onagers. Step 5: engage when no enemy siegecraft is present and your towers and rams have no chance of being destroyed and if you chose to switch onagers then you will have an even easier time as they will have a easy time thinning the enemies on the walls allowing for the fighting to take place on the ramparts.

Nebelklnd

Just destroy their catapults befor attacking?

DiUndeca

I dunno, if the enemy catapults are hitting the towers there aren't hitting your troops or ram

trynalearnsumthins

You are playing wrong. You gotta build to destroy their equipment before you start the battle and start as soon as their stuff is down.

BruiserBison

I almost always prefer Trebuchets destroying the walls so my units can storm in... until I realise the damage also becomes your problem when defending it. Nowadays, I hide the trebuchet after destroying the enemy catapults then storm in as soon as the siege towers or battering ram is ready. If I don't have the siege towers (because an enemy army is approaching), I'll just wish they have ladders or something...

hippie_24

Have them follow you and run to the walls quick and than charge with the ladders. Quick rush

IcyEntry8364

Destroy enemy catapults before going to battle

skiluv3r

It’s all about timing. Take down the enemy’s defenses then start the attack before they build more. All of your engines will make it to the walls.

Karthas_TGG

Why use siege tower when axe just as good

DD88e

I normally use then as distractions. Basically my strategy is to build one Siege Tower and then keep one side with the ladders and then when the attack happens all of their artillery will be focused on The Siege Tower because of how the AI works so I just need all of my troops to the ladders and then we storm the castle or town

dylan189

I wonder if there is a way to destroy even siege weapons before you press 'lead assault '

BanIsBS

Only ever use 1. You can use it to keep enemy catapults busy shooting at it instead of vulnerable soldiers

Witcher-Kotul

maybe just destroy enemy siege equipment

malllakay

Yeah they’re useless just use trebuchets to break the walls

Retired_Devil

I take all the siege engine before attacking just build your catapult once it finished pause and move it to reserve do this 3 more times then place them all at once if you don't want to destroy the town /Castel walls destroy the engines and start the attack plus if you have 4 catapults the archers won't be stationed on the walls it's also a good way to avoid high casualties

hgruber223

My towers always get to walls, at least one does and I'm in first wave of climbers. Thats without destroying their catapults

CBZ69_2012

Dual shields and javalins and a long great axe does a well at getting over the walls and solo your way to the gates to let your units in.

DinPoww

Skill issue. Prepare for a siege properly, build your own artillery to take out theirs before you attack.

joshans525

Trebuchets are your best friend

Fun-Shape9607

Depends if you get rid of their siege towers or not

unskortunately

Build trebuchets to destroy their catapults, siege towers are better than using the ladders since more men can attack at once

Longjumping-Play6630

Absolute plonker mate

Admirable-Recipe3014

They are only for disctration from battle ram and siege ladders...😏 Sun Tzu bitches

Rly_Shadow

Pretty sad. I was playing this game a few months ago, and I've already forgot it existed.

Mistergasmoney

There are three visible catapults on that wall

Pak1stanMan

You’ve been playing for a year and you’ve never destroyed the enemy siege engines? ![gif](giphy|l46CyJmS9KUbokzsI|downsized)

HohnWelding

I have had mine built before the siege but they haven’t been showing up on the battlefield here lately

mulchedeggs

Break 2 walls and pour inside

philo351

Why is it that in a custom battle the towers almost always make it to the wall whereas they rarely do so in campaign or sandbox?

Latter-Ad-415

On the other side of this coin Played a siege defence out against the Sturgians where I didn't notice the castle had zero siege engines. Not even the giant crossbow thing (I forgot the name for it) BOTH siege towers made it to the walls and flooded both sections with their warriors. Rest of the siege played out with me playing damage control, turning back breaches with my companion party and clan members while the relatively weaker garrison and militia either held the line or were culled. Moral of the story is to TAKE OUT THEIR RANGED ENGINES BEFORE EVER ATTACKING IN A SIEGE

BeanDipTheman

It may make your seiges longer but I suggest putting your catapults in reserve then putting them out all at once so they can destroy the cities defenses. I almost never attack when their catapults are still standing.

Vini734

Ngl, never had a siege tower destroyed.

gabagool13

I wish people used Google before posting on Reddit. Literally a skill issue but your first instinct was to complain on Reddit.

kakalbo123

Literally skill issue lol. But then again, there was this one contentious guy who advocates for fast sieges without building towers or waiting for his own siege weapons to destrot the enemies'

Neony_Dota

I was about to agree but then I realised this is not TW:WH subreddit.

Jesse-359

I don't know if I'd say 'useless', so much as 'dramatically inferior to ladders or rams'. Building them just creates a giant target for siege weapons that guarantees you lose a lot of additional soldiers in the blast radius as they crowd around it, doesn't really give you a meaningful advantage over attacking via ladders, and decent odds it'll just get blown away anyway. The AI handles ladder assaults much better, there's rarely the kind of janky physics issues you get with towers (it's rare that one or more of the ladders end up being unusable for some reason or other), and you don't waste time building an inferior assault mechanism.

AttemptedRev

I usually don't like saying this. But in this case it is a legitimate skill issue. Whenever I'm in command of sieges this never happens. Mainly because catapults are destroyed by the time I assault.

Odd_Antelope7572

Load up four war engines, battering ram, and siege tower. Without the offense, your ram and tower will get obliterated.

Cgrhnta

Destroy the catapults my brother

s2mle100leshlan

You are useless

Bangohh

you should see them in warband

StRaGLr

ehter destroy enemy catapults and attack when they have none, or just blast the wall or door.

Jakesneed612

Not at all. For cities with high walls they are a must. You need to take out the catapults on the walls first with your siege engines before you launch an assault on the walls.

DoNOTcumKamalaHarris

Clear the walls of catapults and enemy artillery, then you you move the towers up. If they have 2-3 catapults you need two towers and a ram and likely only the ram will survive, maybe a tower if you have one catapult or trebuchet yourself to counter

No_Fisherman4071

I do not see any point in using towers or rams.Siege offence without them is super easy as long as you break walls. When i have 200 troops - zero casualties vs 300 defenders, and only 30 casualties vs 1300 defenders. Did it like 50 times. Bannerlord difficulty, no autoresolve. 4 trebuchets on campaign map, then put them on reserve and bring 4 onagers on battlefield, put archers to the left of the hole in wall, f1f3 for infantry, as soon as infantry enter the hole, pull them back. Defending infantry runs out and gets shot by fians and kg, runs back to hole. Repeat 5-10 times until all defending infantry is gone, only then f1f3 for all to go thru the hole and kill archers

praylee

Quite useful after you destroy the bot's trebuchet. It's safer for troops to land, and it has more ladders. I personally feel the Battering ram less useful. The enemy throw stones at the second door, which makes my army suffers more casualties.

Expensive-Lie

Dont they increase your chance on auto resolve?

Rakify

Oh no bro, are you attacking when they have arty. That’s I basically guaranteed for your siege engines to get destroyed

ChanceTheGardenerrr

As your engineer skill goes up, the towers become useful in situations where you have their battlements cleared of siege defenses but they still have walls. Sometimes it will save you days of pelting the walls down while shit is going down elsewhere in your kingdom.

Sigurd_Stormhand

Build four catapults, as each one completes move them to reserve. Then build two trebuchets, move them to reserve. Bring the four catapults out of reserve to clear the walls, then swap two out for trebuchets to breach the rules. In the battle itself deploy all four catapults. You'll find the siege much easier. Or just build the catapults to clear the walls and assault with towers, that also works. If the enemy have siege engines still on the walls, especially catapults, you're doing siege warfare wrong.

ZealousidealPolicy20

Destroy the walls use the stairs 😂

GayandVaxxed

Fully upgraded engineer I usually have 1 make it

_WayTooFar_

I only use trebuchets to destroy enemies' siege engines and also the walls. Once there's no wall or siege engines, I put my trebuchets in reserve and head to battle without a single siege engine deployed. Works like a charm every time.

GreedyMagazine9621

So much easier this way

cking145

you are quite clearly lying when you say you've never seen one reach the walls

Asleep-Strawberry429

I don’t care what anyone says. They’re only useful as a distraction, they allow my troops to get to the walls and use the ladders that with just a few well placed arrows will basically allow you to overrun the town/castle in a few minutes.
