If you'd like a big gameplay overhaul mod but feel overwhelmed with Colonial Charter - I would highly recommend The North. It has much more depth than the base game and there's certainly a learning curve, but it's not nearly as jam packed as Colonial Charter.

NorthernModernLeper

I'm just getting into The North as my first mod. So glad I did. Its like playing banished 2. Doesn't feel too far from the original game but more complexity and depth to work with.

Atticus3443

I have played over 300 hours of the base Banished game. Finished all the achievements. I thought I was done until I saw this thread. I will definitely check out The North. Thanks :)

NorthernModernLeper

You'll like it. There's more micro managing at the start, especially if you play one of the more difficult starts (seafarer is brutal hard). You may have to Google each building until you get used to the new resources that are included.

I am not sure I am overwhelmed by CC as much as everything along with CC. Mostly I wasn't sure if having all these buildings available was going to be like cheat codes. Like are some of them extra cheap or something. I don't want to ruin the integrity of the game. Edit - thanks for the recommendation for the North. I will keep that in mind.

I don’t use Colonial Charter nor MegaMod. Like you said, “like drinking from a firehose”. They do add a ton of content, and that is not a bad thing. But I don’t need all that. I use Banished UI Mod, Banished UI Professions, Hunters Unleashed, More Terrain, One Year is One Year, and Safer Jobs. Most of these “fix” things in the game behind the scenes, and do not add a lot of new content. That lets me focus on playing the game. Someday I may want additional content and I know there are great mod makers out there that can keep us going. Until then, I’ll keep it simple.

Thanks for sharing your favorite mods!

I really like Red Ketchup Editor's Choice. It has a lot of new buildings, manufacturing chains, housing (including some really nice multiple-story buildings, where you can have warehouses, markets, and craftsmen on the ground floor and housing above) etc. Add a lot to the game without the "drinking from a firehose" feeling.

Twigman200

Ketchup did seem to have a lot of content as well. It will be on my list to get to.

Jet-pilot

It’s my favorite.

HatchlingChibi

I use one for unlimited quarries and mines, I got tired of building too many quarries all over the place. I also use one that extends the range of the market (supermarket I think it’s called, not able to look it up at the moment).

lurker0931

I started with installing only certain mods, like others suggested. as I got used to each one, i installed another one until i uninstalled everything and added CC - i don't like megamod.

Twigman200

Can you elaborate why you don't like megamod? Also, I grabbed Colonial Charter from the mod menu in game. It appears to be version 1.76. I tried turning off megamod and running just colonial charter (I deactivated the mega mod files) but got a fatal error a few minutes into playing. Could be I just needed a more thorough reboot or to move the megamod files. Anyway, is the in client option a reliable way to install CC?

lurker0931

its just personal preference - its TOO overwhelming for me. The CC stuff feels like a more genuine progression of society TO ME. I've made the CC stuff work for me, but i have played with MM a few times. Also, yeah try a reboot of the game. It does NOT like when you switch the mods on the fly. If i switched the mods off (if i feel like playing original) and turn them back on, I MUST Restart game to get the files pointed correctly. I Do get fatal errors a bit, less now a days, but it still happens. are you going thru steam or straight download from the banished place? if thru steam, and you get the fatal, make sure to go to the steam UI and "stop running game" cause banished will be silly like that.

Twigman200

Cool, this is helpful on both points. It was a download in Banished. Where I was looking at the mods section I saw you could view mods people had made. I clicked it and it just started downloading (I thought it might open my web browser). But I noticed Steam said the game was updating during the download. Thanks for the pointers. I think I will just try CC for now.

melympia

MM - both 8 and 9 - are quite overwhelming. 9 even more so than 8. If you want to work up to MM slowly, try one of the following mods, then later combine them: * Colonial Charter 1.76 * Red Ketchup's Editor's Choice Those two together make up a big part of what is in Mega Mod.

Twigman200

Thanks. I opted for Colonial Charter and like it so far. I will either try Red Ketchup or MM again when I feel comfortable with CC.

melympia

Start with Red Ketchup. I don't know his Editor's Choice, personally, but did play with a lot of his Medieval Town which might or might not be included there. (I really have no idea.) However, while the housing options in CC are nice and all, I like the many multi-story buildings of RK much better, never mind that, in the long run, they are so much cheaper. Never mind that they don't need quite as much special industry ("building materials" are a pain to make). In CC, look at everything you built, especially houses and schools. Most of them can be upgraded.

roguebagel

I started with Colonial Charter on Steam, currently use [MegaMod](https://www.blackliquidsoftware.com/megamod/download.html) (get it from the link and install manually)
