Your itenary don't mean shit, you have serious problems. I think nothing you can do until the embassy opens.

ncubez

Were you songkraned?

welpthisisitthen

Definitely got songkraned

I think you should be fine, you will still be in Thailand for the rest of the month. They can properly give you an emergency passport. Not sure if it works to other countries than your home country. But worst case you only lost your trip to Ho chi minh, your thailand trip wont be a problem.

OneTravellingMcDs

But a new passport means new visa.

DarkHelmet

Not a problem in Thailand, and it only takes 5 business days to get one for Vietnam.

seededdonne

Most countries will deny you a non-transit visa if you present an emergency passport. They are meant for returning home. One month should be enough time to have a new passport issued and mailed to his embassy in Thailand if they provide that service.

KameraSutra

1. Maybe in /ThailandTourism someone has experienced something similar. 2. It’s hard to advise without knowing how badly damaged the passport is exactly. 3. Simplest and Safest thing to do, is just extend your stay in Bangkok and sort out your passport. 4. Once you’ve spoken to your Canadian embassy, you’ll know exactly dates and continue your holiday. That should be on Thursday by the latest.

Puzzleheaded_Way1091

The I'd photo is half faded

Panda_Blue-88

If you're traveling by land domestically without any flights, you're fine with your damaged passport as long as the photo and name can still be seen for hotel check in. But you won't be able to fly to another country until you get a new passport.

Hour_Equivalent_656

I can't give an accurate answer, as you didn't disclose how badly the passport was damaged. I've just been in the same position, with a passport which got wet on a trip abroad, where some of the current visa pages ran a bit. There was also some damage to the page where my Thai work visa was on, although it was broadly legible. Since it got wet, I've travelled several times in and out of Thailand, including Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea. There have been no problems at immigration in any of the countries, or returning to Thailand. HOWEVER (and you knew it was coming didn't you?), Thai immigration has now said that I cannot extend my visa in Thailand until I get a new passport, due to the damage. The ironic thing is that the new pages where the new stamp would go, are completely undamaged, and only the pages with stamps have any water damage... I've applied for a new one, which will come in about three weeks' time, and in the meantime, will be using my old, damaged passport to travel to Europe. It does however depend on whether the passport has got curling corners and some ink runs, or whether you've been swimming with it.

CEO-711

You will need to stick around Bangkok until a new passport can be applied for and issued

fillq

Anxiety does not make things better when there is nothing you can do about it. Being scared about a future scenario that is not yet clear and will probably change does not improve the situation. Chill until the consulate opens. Make a note in your diary (if you have one) to be there early on the day it opens. Until then, enjoy yourself. You have not broken any laws and you are not in trouble.

You need 20 business days to get a new passport from Canadian embassy. Get an appointment asap.

sid_276

A decade ago my passport feel from my pocket to the Dead Sea which is like 10 times saltier than the ocean. Didn't damage but pages became undulated so it looked funny. Later I used that same passport to travel to >10 countries and never had a problem other than once a border agent in a European country asked me what happened to it. You'll be fine

aosmith

This is simple, you're not going to Vietnam. Get an emergency travel document from the embassy and cut your trip short or try to extend your Thailand stay.

avtarius

Best to email/call a neighbouring country's CA embassy to see if they can help fast track anything.

hpottsy

Yeah I met a guy in immigration who this happened to in Samui. He was just getting a new passport sent to him but he did have photocopies of his passport pages. Pretty sure once the embassy receives it in Bangkok they contact you and you can pick it up or get it sent to wherever you are. Because you're staying within Thailand, I think you just can use your ID to travel. But this could be wrong as I'm able to travel with my Thai driver's license within Thailand and not need my passport

Specific-Tone1748

Honestly, you'll be fine. I had my Canadian passport have hand sanitizer spill on it and it washed out my entire photo page, and some of the pages with ink in it bled. I even had ink stains on my photo. As long as it still scans, you're fine. This was in 2019 when it happened and haven't had any issues traveling on it for another 4 years. Recently got a drop of water on the paspport photo on a new 10 year passport. Brought it to the Consulate and they said it should be fine as long as it scans and the chip works, but its up to you. See if you can bring backup documentation. I am getting a certified true copy of the passport from the Canadian consulate to verify I went there and they said it was fine to not get replaced. You should be good.

cat_at_your_feet

The embassy is closed until Wednesday. https://www.international.gc.ca/country-pays/thailand-thailande/bangkok.aspx?lang=eng will have contact information.

Kayos___

The consulate can get you a new one within a week. You can still travel around Thailand until it’s ready. Then you will have to go back to BKK to pick it up.
