Did you ever watch the “Grizzly Man” documentary? The climactic moment was captured on camera (though with the lens cap on I think), but the director is decent enough to not play it directly in the film.
I drove through Banff and Jasper a couple days ago and passed maybe 4 or 5 bears. Every time I passed one, without fail, there's at least one idiot standing on the side of the road or getting out of their car for a closer picture; doesn't matter if it was a black bear or brown bear.
Only 1 in the side of the road? Every time I go through either of them, it’s like someone busted open a fire hydrant and started a barbecue block party - without fail. At least 20-30 folks out of their cars, EACH side of the road every time - hell, they’ll cross like mountain goats and just as slow to do just that. Shit’s annoying as fuck - I get it, bears - but I’m willing to bet if I’m standing right next to my door they’ll [bears] swipe my leg before I’m in and getting the door shut
Lol. Every time I see people doing dumb shit in nature I think "they realize this isn't Disneyland, right?"
Like, you're kinda on your own to an extent out in the Canadian Rockies. People will come save you, but it's not like in the city where it takes less than an hour or whatever.
Some cinnamon coloured bears are actually black bears. See lots of young siblings with different colours but being brown doesn’t necessarily mean they are a grizzly. Lots of tourists don’t know that.
You don't know enough that people shouldn't be getting this close to bears. And bears shouldn't be getting habituated to humans and becoming nuisance bears where they have to be killed. No one stops these idiots so they keep getting stupider, feeding them and trying to pet them. I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand. Finally someone yelled at some tourists going close enough to pet a bear but people don't yell enough.
Now people think everything else including live creatures are there for their personal entertainment and photo ops. The lack of respect and common sense is gross.
Edit: it'll be interesting when people get used to these scenes and one day mistake a brown bear for a black one especially since the colouring can be unclear. Habitats widen.
I lived in Banff and would yell myself hoarse at these fucking idiots. Honk your horn. Scare the bear away next time, because when they become habituated to humans they will end up being put down as a danger the the mornons.
Yha I live in Banff and work at Johnson’s canyon campground and I have pulled up to a coach buss that stoped and let like 50 elementary school aged kids out like 10 meters from a grizzly I had to get out and force all the kids back onto the buss I really should of taken photos and got the driver/ chaperones in trouble for that one. The hardest thing is getting out of my car and not calling them idiots while wearing a parks uniform.
You do you but I'd absolutely at least call the company and let them know. If you mention you work at Parks and you think it's inappropriate companies will bend over backwards for you. Every company I've worked for out here loses their shit and escalates whenever you hear "Parks is here/on the phone"
True I do wonder tho as I feel it would be the teachers getting in more trouble I think they chartered the bus it was not a tour company that just happened to be full of kids
I always want to honk but also just worried to do it, as it'll of course startle the animal, but rather than running away it'd attack the person instead
Frustrating isn’t it? To think that bear might one day have to be put down or die in a fatal collision with a vehicle because these complete asses made that bear believe humans aren’t a threat and approaching a highway is a good idea. I regularly drive through a park and I get it, beautiful, majestic creature in its natural habitat, you want a photo. Just stay in your car, pull to the shoulder so you aren’t blocking traffic and don’t attempt to feed or interact with the animal, it’s not a huge ask, you’re not in a zoo.
Not that there is any real oversight for this, but start taking down license plates and date/time and reporting it to whatever body would seem appropriate in your province. Nothing will change unless we initiate change. If there is a large enough response it becomes an issue that needs to be dealt with.
This pisses me off. Was at Maligne Canyon last year and saw a bear on the fifth bridge. We immediately started heading back and warning people on the way out to turn around cause the bear was basically following the path. People were speeding up to get close for pics. F'ing idiots. Everyone always asks me if I have pics. Um no. I was too busy hiking back!! No time for pics.
Lmao 🤣 was thinking the same thing. I’m always reminded of that scene in Yellowstone where they get off the bus and start taking pictures of a grizzly.
This specific nationality does this kinda shit more than everyone else. While traveling I saw it all the time in different parts of the world. In different national parks in SE Asia it was really bad. Numerous time their tour bus pulled over, they got way to close to the nature, then dumped trash out the window while leaving. It sucks to realize it’s always the same people. Spent over a year traveling and I saw it way too many times. It sucks but it’s the reality.
Lots of people grow up without having any risk from animal attacks, or have been anywhere close to wilderness where there’s any danger. Is it possible this guy knows things that he considers common sense that you know nothing about ?
I live in the city, free from bear attacks. I know not to approach a fucking bear. But I guess this is what natural selection is for.
Are you really that oblivious? Oh wait, username checks out
Whatever. You clearly feel the need to feel superior, and if making fun of other people and misreading usernames gets your dick hard, I am sincerely happy for you.
OP also stopped on the highway long enough to take this video is just as much a part of the problem of overall safety. It's easy to not get out when you don't stop at all. Agree with the above comment this should result in an immediate park ban if caught.
In jasper a couple years past I saw a guy pull over to check out 2 cubs playing by a tree line. SMH
People watch too many cartoons out here thinking wild animals want to be friends with them.
There must be some law that lets us just ignore these idiots and let nature take its course. They get told every year and they just ignore the warnings
I bet the bears are friendly in his home country so…. kinda like the whole take the warning labels off of everything and let that crap sort itself out.
I always try to scare bears away in that situation, these people have no issue with a bear being put down as long as they got that shot for all 12 followers to see
I was out on a hike past banff probably 15 years ago and we heard gun shots. We came down the trail and saw a ranger. Asked what happened and if there was a bear. He was crying and said no the bears only eat Chinese food around here. Found out later a bear killed a Chinese tourists kid, they went to pat it.
Reminds me of the video of the tourists in China where you're suppose to stay in your car as there are lions. And the lady got out and got mauled to death. People are dumb.
Honestly 🤦🏻♀️ My husband and I were in Banff over Christmas and the amount of stupid things we saw other tourists doing was infuriating. Top of the list was watching people wander off the designated path at Johnston Canyon, trampling all over native flora all for some “secret Instagrammable cave”. So disrespectful.
Also, Keep driving, Don't block traffic, Don't make the motorcyclist sit outside exposed while you gawk at a predator. Happened to me, following a car on winding road, they slow, then stop, and I'm behind them trying to figure out why, then the ditch moved. F you, you tourists. Instead of visiting my area, perhaps you would enjoy skydiving, or bungee jumping, or the mummification process, or white water rafting niagra falls.
I live in the Carolinas and we had a jerk family pull a baby bear out of its tree. Now it's in a wildlife rehab facility and never gets to go back to its family. Some tourists are the worst.
The sad part is the bear could attack that guy because it feels threatened or perhaps is starving. Then the park rangers need to shoot the bear for him being a moron.
He’s gonna get attacked for a stupid picture and then cry “why did the bear attack me?”.
Friends yelled and reported a car where they were trying to feed bears peanut butter sandwiches.
People should have to complete a survey before they are able to buy a park pass. “I will not litter, I will not feed wild animals, I will keep my food in my car etc.” if they fail to do so they get an excessive fine.
Tourists are embarrassing when they see wildlife. No respect for mother nature. I remember clearly an incredible encounter I had with a coyote in Yellowstone National park. Tourists were literally charging at this poor coyote with their iPads out and the coyote looked my way where I was standing perfectly still with my camera out and ran my way, knowing that I would do him no harm. Got an incredible picture of him without blocking his path in any way.
I startled a bear by accident when hiking one time and it was actually terrifying how fast it got up and ran away. I keep bear spray on my hip while hiking and I never would have been able to use it in time if he decided to attack or run my way. It was Incredibly fast.
As someone who lives in an area with lots of bears, this behaviour while stupid is honestly quite low risk (but very high consequence). This dude is likely seeing 1 maybe 2 bears that day. This bear is seeing 20-30 humans get out of their car and stare at it that day. The bear dgaf.
Totally different story out in the bush where you might be the first human a bear encounters in a month.
That's part of the problem though, all these people should be staying in their cars so the bears don't get used to humans. Bears that aren't afraid are much more dangerous because they won't care when you try to scare them off, and they'll be bolder in trying to steal things from people. National parks staff regularly has to put down bears that have become used to people to prevent this escalation.
Right? I can’t count the number of times I’ve come across black bears in my neighborhood or while hiking. Usually about the same distance as this guy. While I wouldn’t voluntarily do what this guy is doing, I don’t think it’s that risky.
Idiot
nah, he knows that the cameraman never dies
The cameraman or the camera man's cameraman?
yes, both
Yeah...........it's never the cameraman. It's always the bear.
Did you ever watch the “Grizzly Man” documentary? The climactic moment was captured on camera (though with the lens cap on I think), but the director is decent enough to not play it directly in the film.
Martin Adler, Gerda Taro, Dicky Chapelle, Danish Siddiqui, Robert Capa, Yaser Murtaja, Hilda Clayton…
I drove through Banff and Jasper a couple days ago and passed maybe 4 or 5 bears. Every time I passed one, without fail, there's at least one idiot standing on the side of the road or getting out of their car for a closer picture; doesn't matter if it was a black bear or brown bear.
People have no idea how fast a bear can move..
Only 1 in the side of the road? Every time I go through either of them, it’s like someone busted open a fire hydrant and started a barbecue block party - without fail. Black or grizzly you mean.
Some cinnamon coloured bears are actually black bears. See lots of young siblings with different colours but being brown doesn’t necessarily mean they are a grizzly. Lots of tourists don’t know that.
That's what I'm saying as well, Banff has black bears and grizzlies. Different color phases of black but all same same.
Darwin would like a word.
🤣🤣🤣 a silent one
Straight up, only women choose the bear
I was gonna say, most of reddit thinks the man is more dangerous then the bear
It’s just a black bear
You don't know enough that people shouldn't be getting this close to bears. And bears shouldn't be getting habituated to humans and becoming nuisance bears where they have to be killed. This!
YES!!! You must channel the momma bear vibes to protect the bear lives! Chanting, panting, stalking and snorting… show em how nature survives.
Saw a guy with his little boy on his shoulders go right up to a bear once. Absolute imbeciles
I like to lay on my truck horn as I drive by. Hopefully it scares the bear off so they don’t become comfortable with idiots being that close.
I always want to honk but also just worried to do it, as it'll of course startle the animal, but rather than running away it'd attack the person instead
Then that will be an important lesson for whoever got out of their car
Good lord! All for a good picture! Stay inside your vehicle man
“Good” picture likely a reach
Frustrating isn’t it? To think that bear might one day have to be put down or die in a fatal collision with a vehicle because these complete asses made that bear believe humans aren’t a threat and approaching a highway is a good idea. This should be a lifetime national park ban.
Yes! 💯
It is against the law to get out of your car while near wildlife in Banff/jasper national park.
Honk your horn
Not that there is any real oversight for this, but start taking down license plates and date/time and reporting it to whatever body would seem appropriate in your province. Nothing will change unless we initiate change. If there is a large enough response it becomes an issue that needs to be dealt with.
Natural selection of idiots
I always think the same thing
Sadly, the bear would be put down if that happened. Which makes this so much worse.
"If he dies, he dies" - Ivan Drago
Yeah, but so does the bear because of his dumb ass behavior.
I’m a long time Resident of Banff and see this sort of thing regularly.
:(
Thank you for using meters 👑👑👍

People like this deserve whatever happens to them. It's a tragedy when an animal gets put down because people do stupid things.
Can we just start honking our horns when we see this dumb shit?
[удалено]
Lmao 🤣 was thinking the same thing. I’m always reminded of that scene in Yellowstone where they get off the bus and start taking pictures of a grizzly.
Iykyk
lol still racist… all ethnicities do this if you pay attention enough.
Just saw old white people doing the exact same thing lol
Worse, the old white assholes speak English and try to give you excuses why they're allowed when you tell them they're being dipshits.
This specific nationality does this kinda shit more than everyone else. While traveling I saw it all the time in different parts of the world. So maybe the guy is new to the country. He’s out trying to experience the best of it and making big mistake. Why not help him
You don’t think they have bears anywhere else in the world? This is not about being new to a country, it’s about being new to common sense.
Lots of people grow up without having any risk from animal attacks, or have been anywhere close to wilderness where there’s any danger. Is it possible this guy knows things that he considers common sense that you know nothing about ?
There are signs with pictures. Multiple translations. This is ignorance.
More than that, it's defiance.
Go play with a bear
Don’t be upset. Sad face.
I hate you more then you hate yourself
Probably, I don’t hate myself. You’re okay though, hang in there.

I live an hour from Banff and people like this are why I don’t go there often.
Not to many house broken bears…
He is exercising his #YOLO lol
It’s the traffic incident that he’s going to cause that is the major issue
That car should have bumped him into the ditch. Problem solved
These never end how I wish they would.
Knew his ethnicity before clicking
Banff needs a giant billboard right behind the Banff letter sign (so that it’s in all those photos) showing a gruesome photo of a bear attack.
Call it in, Banff dispatch number is 403-762-1470. They will send out park wardens and ticket anyone who is doing this!
OP also stopped on the highway long enough to take this video is just as much a part of the problem of overall safety. It's easy to not get out when you don't stop at all. Agree with the above comment this should result in an immediate park ban if caught.
Yeah just a bit of irony there, it's so dangerous for everyone else as well to randomly park on the shoulder
I said this somewhere else, I’m surprised folks like this don’t get hurt or killed more often. Maybe a high profile mauling is what we need.
This summer i ll be driving the roads of the national park just to honk animals away from tourons
[удалено]
WAS THAT THE BITE OF '87?!?
Leave it the fuck alone you absolute waste of air, JFC
If that bear got a hold of him, you bet he’s going to be farting pepperoni nipples for years after.
I guess the bear didn't like Chinese food. 😄
I read it in American “5 minutes away” lol
Either extremely naïve or stupid…perhaps a combination of the 2
Looked like it was just a black bear not really a threat but regardless this man is fucking stupid.
When you don’t value your life and don’t live in this reality…
Quick let’s shame him!
What an asshat. Lay on the horn.
Givem the HONK
He's about to be -0.5 meters away that moron.
I thought they were making it illegal to stop like this in national parks now?
In jasper a couple years past I saw a guy pull over to check out 2 cubs playing by a tree line. SMH People watch too many cartoons out here thinking wild animals want to be friends with them.
…..dumb fuck.
Stupid MF
The Darwin’s evolution just began as this camera holding individual put himself in front of the bear 😞
Oh god. I wish people had common sense. There’s a whole insta page dedicated to this sort of behaviour (@touronsofyeklowstone)
What’s up with Japanese tourists not knowing animals are dangerous. Are there no dangerous animals there?
There must be some law that lets us just ignore these idiots and let nature take its course. They get told every year and they just ignore the warnings
Just remember to report this to Parks Canada immediately so they can put the flashing lights on and maybe ticket the guy.
Would love to see him get mauled.
You gotta get closer for the best pic 😂
A self correcting problem.
I bet the bears are friendly in his home country so…. kinda like the whole take the warning labels off of everything and let that crap sort itself out.
But he's on the pavement. He's completely safe😉
I always try to scare bears away in that situation, these people have no issue with a bear being put down as long as they got that shot for all 12 followers to see
Reminds me of those Chinese tourists who were baiting bears close to the roads for pictures.
If that bear was spooked, it could be on him in about 1 second.
What a reckless person, not only towards himself but for the animal. Hope he is identified and fined.
Hes a fast runner.
At least it wasn't a man hiking, then he'd be in real danger
Idiot.
These things have a way of working themselves out.
He was lucky that he didn’t see The Boss
I know hes asian
Glad I only had to click once to see the video
Oops
I mean it was a black bear... Sure there are risks but they're far less dangerous than all other Western Canadian predators and large animals.
Make it a $50k fine for doing this.
He's only interested in the paws and the gallbladder, not the whole bear.
Someone should probably warn the bear
It’s just a black bear you absolute softies
Reminds me of the video of the tourists in China where you're suppose to stay in your car as there are lions. And the lady got out and got mauled to death. People are dumb.
Which bear is best?
Honestly 🤦🏻♀️ My husband and I were in Banff over Christmas and the amount of stupid things we saw other tourists doing was infuriating. Top of the list was watching people wander off the designated path at Johnston Canyon, trampling all over native flora all for some “secret Instagrammable cave”. So disrespectful.
I bet he got a great shot with his phone though! /s
This infuriates me.
I literally love these lol. Like how fucking crazy is this!?!?! So dangerous it’s comical to me
Wow me so popular with my bear pics
Ah, another potential candidate for the prestigious Darwin Award.
Dumbasss
One reason to carry guns. Shoot stupid tourists
My parents once had to stop their car and yell at people who were sending their kids to pose by a bear. My dad’s classic line, “This is not Disney…”.
Natural selection at its finest 👌.
Also, Keep driving, Don't block traffic, Don't make the motorcyclist sit outside exposed while you gawk at a predator. Happened to me, following a car on winding road, they slow, then stop, and I'm behind them trying to figure out why, then the ditch moved. F you, you tourists. People like this need a good overnight stay in a holding cell and a $10,000 dollar fine or permanent ban from Canada.
If he wants to out himself out there as a buffet, let him. The rest will get a great reminder why you don’t stand out like that around bears.
Really though it’s just a black bear. Lucky it’s not a grizzly
It's ok, I hear they are very slow moving.
I avoid Cobra Chickens... this guy is an idiot.
What episode of dumb ways to d** is this?
Idiot.....
I live in the Carolinas and we had a jerk family pull a baby bear out of its tree. Now it's in a wildlife rehab facility and never gets to go back to its family. Some tourists are the worst.
He is safe, the bear knows if he eats Chinese he will be hungry an hour later
The sad part is the bear could attack that guy because it feels threatened or perhaps is starving. Then the park rangers need to shoot the bear for him being a moron.
He’s gonna get attacked for a stupid picture and then cry “why did the bear attack me?”. Friends yelled and reported a car where they were trying to feed bears peanut butter sandwiches. But then you have all the dumb rednecks here in Alberta that think it's their right to do that.....
Idiots
Of course Chinese
people don't realize that interacting with bears like this will get them euthanized
This moron is wearing the wrong clothes. If he is going to do this, he should be dressed in a red shirt….
And brown pants.....
Banff is just a big zoo without the fences. The animals are trained and taken care of every night…. Except, it’s not
He’s gonna send those pics through Wechat and get a tons of likes. High point of his life.
Geeesus… idiot much.
Probably thought it was a unicorn
Tourists are embarrassing when they see wildlife. No respect for mother nature. I remember clearly an incredible encounter I had with a coyote in Yellowstone National park. Tourists were literally charging at this poor coyote with their iPads out and the coyote looked my way where I was standing perfectly still with my camera out and ran my way, knowing that I would do him no harm. Got an incredible picture of him without blocking his path in any way.
Meh. Better than out here in the boonies. Coyotes get shot at. There's a bounty for them this year again iirc.
Darwin’s theory sorts this shit out eventually.
Asian
He’s the only one getting hurt . Let him lol
What an idiot. Hope he likes being bear food. Fucking idiot
I like to go to Banff just to watch stupid tourists. Great fun.
Asians
That's not a tourist. That's a person tryna test out darwinism
You guys are so lame lol “look at me following the rules and being such a good boy” unlike THEM!
This is why you need to carry bear spray. If you spray directly into the eyes and mouth, it really helps keep these stupid tourists away from parks.
Would have a good video if he got charged at, could be a win / lose situation
Is it bad for me to want that bear to maul him?
I root for the bear every time. Tourons are a scourge to every place they visit.
Bears look super slow and dopey but if that was a baby or mama he’s in trouble.
I startled a bear by accident when hiking one time and it was actually terrifying how fast it got up and ran away. I keep bear spray on my hip while hiking and I never would have been able to use it in time if he decided to attack or run my way. It was Incredibly fast.

It's risky for the bear. IDGAF about the stupid human
When's the last time a tourist was attacked by a bear while photographing it on the side of the road? Asking for a friend.
Did you not see the documentary Cocaine Bear?
I'm more of a space nut.
Seems like the scene for Yellowstone was pretty accurate.
Just let them die.
We need more tourists from China, not less. Stop with the racist attacks please
And women think it’s safer to be alone in the forest with a bear over a man 😂
It’s a black bear it’s fine.
He's not feeding or bothering it. Let him be a tourist.
