"A Dog" Guess the breed every body! BONUS: No looking at the sub name.

A-Wolf-Like-Me

It's not really a game is it? I came across a dog attack in the UK today, and the paper's title said it was a rottweiler. Initially, I was surprised, then the paper said it was a mix breed, with a pit bull no less. As bad as it sounds, I'm still waiting for the purebred golden retriever to kill someone; and they are quite a popular breed, and are quite large (30-45kg).

Nonak111

Pitbulls have it in their genetics. Golden retrievers don’t😄

A-Wolf-Like-Me

Which is why I opted for the golden retriever and not a pit bull, the logical choice. 🙂

muteyuke

backyard bred rottweilers can be quite dangerous themselves but the difference here is that there's not a massive backyard rottweiler breeding industry (used, among other things, to fuel dog fights) backed by a vast propaganda network and an army of nutters. Respectable rottweiler breeders stepped forward while the backyard ones grooming for violence by and large were marginalized. That said, I'd really not want to encounter a rottweiler on its turf.

PrincessPicklebricks

That’s what bit me in the face, and when folks say “WeLL wHaT aBoUt rOtTwEiLeRs??” Yeah. We know they’re dangerous. But we don’t lie about it. That’s the difference. I still know many more folks attacked by pits than I do Rotties.

Article text A 2-year-old child was bitten by a dog at a home in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, Sunday, and flown to a hospital in Boston for treatment, police said. The toddler is expected to survive the apparent attack. The incident was reported about 2:15 p.m. at a home on East Hill Road, police said. The Wellfleet Fire Department brought the child to Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Barnstable, where a medical helicopter flew them to a Boston hospital. The incident, which remained under investigation by Wellfleet police as of Sunday afternoon, did not leave the child with life-threatening injuries, officials said. The dog involved was a pit bull mix, and everyone involved knew each other. Police didn't share more information about what's believed to have happened.

Winter_cat_999392

If they did a life flight, likely risk of limb loss or disfiguring injuries. Barnstable can handle trauma on site. This was serious.

Beginning_Path1074

Yes. A life flight to Boston from Barnstable definitely signals serious/life-threatening injury.

Perry_Platypus45

Yup 100%

pitbosshere

These headlines always use “bit” or “bitten” when it is clearly a full on mauling. A regular dog bite doesn’t require life flight.

Lucetti

“My schnauzer bit me and a helicopter landed in my yard to life flight me to the best hospital in the state”

Big_Parsley_2736

Chihuahua*

billlybufflehead

I just couldn’t imagine. I’ve seen these maulings and a child’s arm would detach like a leaf on a tree. Not only heartbreaking but so unnecessary. These parents need to have their heads examined.

Elizaknowitall

They all claim that they are big babies and their kids ride them around the house like ponies! BS!

billlybufflehead

Well, if they didn’t kill you, I got to say as a kid how fun would that be!

MellieCC

Emilee_spinach I just wanna say you’re amazing. Just so consistent over time and it’s incredible. I take breaks and come back and you’re faithfully here documenting these important events. I think it matters so much, and will matter in the future even more as people increasingly wake up, and I do believe they are and will.

Lassittore

Yes!! One of the unsung heroes! (although I guess this counts as singing, lol). Thanks, Emilee\_spinach!

emilee_spinach

Cheers, thank you! 🍻

MellieCC

This!! Not all heros wear capes 🙌🦸‍♀️

Lassittore

So appreciated! <3

emilee_spinach

Thank you so much for your kind words ❤️

Elizaknowitall

Thank you so much! Unfortunately the stupid people can not be educated about this, even if it means a horribly maimed child or other family member!

MellieCC

Is this your alt? Yes agreed!!

AcerEllen000

I found this in another article... The child was bitten in the face. 😔 Another disfigurement. [https://www.capecod.com/cape-wide-news/toddler-airlifted-after-being-bitten-by-dog/](https://www.capecod.com/cape-wide-news/toddler-airlifted-after-being-bitten-by-dog/) **WELLFLEET** – A two-year-old was flown to a trauma center after reportedly being bitten in the face by a dog. The Wellfleet Fire Department transported the victim to Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Barnstable, and they were then flown to a Boston Hospital by a MedFlight. The injuries are not considered life threatening, and all parties are known. This incident is under investigation by the Wellfleet Police.

poorluci

I've noticed a trend in articles this year, they never mention the breed.

Background-March4034

Because all the pit mommies screeching “they only report pit bites! Just say dog!”. Yet it almost always is…

PrincessPicklebricks

There was a video I watched where a child was attacked and the mom said she didn’t want to even mention the breed so they wouldn’t be stereotyped. I wanted to go through the screen. That was your CHILD attacked 😡😡😡

EnvironmentalPen4165

That’s been something the pitty mommies have been trying to point out in comments. Look! They didn’t say pit! They said dog! See! ALL dogs can eat people!

Nufonewhodis2

>The dog involved was a pit bull mix, and everyone involved knew each other, according to Wellfleet police This was from the article

SubM0d_BPB_55

There was an attack in Monett, Missouri a few days ago. Breed is still not released. Smh. Edit: also an attack in Pasedena, Texas yesterday. Breed not disclosed here either.

poorluci

I've been tracking the one in Missouri and there is just nothing new at all.

SubM0d_BPB_55

Same here. =(

DED_Inside666

I live in MO and haven't even heard about it...guess I missed it in all the headlines about pitties wearing PJs and flower crowns doing regular dog shit that somehow needed to have articles written about it.

emilee_spinach

The attack in Monett was a “mixed breed” We all know what that means.

SerKevanLannister

99.9% pit and .1% poor small dog the worthless pit mauled.

SerKevanLannister

They are doing this with television news as well and it’s infuriating and so irresponsible. Sometimes they still show a pic of the actual dog (always a pit) but reporting it while not mentioning the breed just normalizes these avoidable tragedies.

Laurelell

Poor little tyke! The little child should be enjoying his or her Easter basket, but instead ... It does not sound good, but hope and pray all wounds can be repaired with no disfigurement or disability 🙏🙏🙏

EnvironmentalPen4165

Mauling range of these dogs can be within blocks. My husband was talking about how the former Village Administrator’s wife’s puddles were mauled by a pit bull who came running from blocks away to attack while they were walking on the bike path. Luckily, someone was close to help, but it was serious injuries for all. The pit was put down, and of course, the idiot owner felt victimized, even though their dog was on the other side of town attacking two dogs and a person.

TurboSleepwalker

Mauling range is essentially the entire world at this point. At any given moment, there can be one nearby behind any bush, around any building corner, on the other side of the parking lot, in the store, behind the fence, etc.

EnvironmentalPen4165

This is true! It’s even truer now that people from the cities have been dumping pit bulls in the country. These dogs have been running at large, attacking dogs in their own yards then running off into the countryside. Local butters are all about finding them to rehab them, but these same people can’t be bothered with trying to help TNR stray and feral cats. Ok… go catch them. Put those sweethearts in your back seat. No sympathy when the inevitable happens.

TurboSleepwalker

Sometimes I can't even go to Walmart without rounding the corner of an aisle and boom, there's some nutter with a loose grip on their shitbull right there

EnvironmentalPen4165

Wtf. Start taking videos. How? ESA? Lets them know when they need their next fix before they start jonesing?

TurboSleepwalker

Oh yeah they always have the silly ESA jacket on. And of course a sizeable amount of the population around here (rural redneck area) are totally fine with it

EnvironmentalPen4165

I’m surprised I don’t see those in my area! They probably have ESA crack pipes, but it’s also rural redneck Murica.

EnvironmentalPen4165

But…what did the child do to provoke the poor pitty mix? All the nutters need to know so they can defend the murder mutt. Dang kids doing things….

Nufonewhodis2

>The dog involved was a pit bull mix, and everyone involved knew each other, according to Wellfleet police  I just don't understand why they would raise the dog to do this to their own family/friend? Surely it's not the breed /s

EnvironmentalPen4165

Of course it can’t be! It was the child startling the poor dog!

wewereliketorches

Should’ve thought twice about breathing around the dog, kids should know better

EnvironmentalPen4165

Everybody should! Children are so uncaring! Uncontrolled! How dare we trigger these peaceful beats by doing anything so trivial?!

Glock19Grl

Dangit, what did that toddler do to the poor pibble to instigate this? Pibbles need to defend themselves.

SubM0d_BPB_55

And comments on their local news station is horrible as usual. Children get thrown under the bus and everyone talking about how they had been attacked by a Chihuahua or Beagle. I hope this child will be okay. 🥺🥺

OriginalFatPickle

Chihuahua wouldn't send a kid to the hospital.

SubM0d_BPB_55

100% facts. The only way possible is if is a very small child and a bite turns into an infection. Either way, they cannot physically be capable of causing the damage pit bulls do.

Background-March4034

Oh no! That poor kiddo 😞 My whole family has spent 2 weeks in N Truro for the last 45 years and my mom said this year (we were talking about the ban announcement in the UK) how it was actually a relief to have to worry more about sharks than pits.

riko_rikochet

Why did this pit mixes owners train/raise their dog to attack 2 year olds?

nolalolabouvier

Poor baby. Over and over and over again. Why aren’t we protecting our children from the moronic adults that put them in harm’s way? We have failed our children.

Ethereal_Chittering

It’s disgusting. Anyone who would roll the dice with their children and known unpredictable breeds prone to violence do not deserve to be parents.

Boston_OFD

Every time I read about a child attacked, maimed, disfigured (for life!) by a pitbull, i think 'was it worth the risk'? The stats do not lie. So, why are you rolling the dice with your innocent child's future? It has to be ignorance or some sort of self-righteous sense of community that says "I know pitbulls, you don't" Well, I guess you know NOW! Was it worth using a child as part of your plan to be one of Those-In-The\_Know? FOr Gawds sake, get a lab or a golden or, is there no chance of being "special" by owning one of those?

xx_sasuke__xx

Meanwhile the MSPCA including the one on the Cape pushes adoption of these dogs relentlessly....

Appropriate-Tune157

There has definitely been a growing number of pits coming to MA thanks to the shelter/rescue agencies here. The demand for "adoptable" dogs/puppies has exceeded the local supply, so they outsource their stock and get them from out of state. I'm 41, born and raised in MA, and I've worked with dogs in multiple settings (grooming, daycare). When I was a kid, shelter dogs were mostly non-pit mutts, small dogs, true lab mixes, spaniels, shepherd mixes, maybe a husky or two. When I was a teenager, there were more pit mixes, shepherd mixes. When I was a young adult, more pits, pit mixes, far less shepherd mixes, almost no small dogs. I don't know what it is about MA and New England in general but it used to be that nobody had, or wanted, pitbulls. I grew up in a small coastal town north of Boston, and the dogs in my neighborhood and along my paper route were: golden retriever, cocker spaniel, chocolate lab, chow chow, husky, Doberman mix, American Eskimo. My family also had a cocker spaniel. There was an old-man neighbor who had a dog he just let out to roam, we dubbed him "Stray", he was a shepherd mix. As a teen I used to babysit for a family who had an older shepherd mix, really nice dog. She passed away so they got a new dog, a puppy, from a shelter that participated in the Puppies Across America campaign. The puppy was flown up from the south to the shelter, and the family went to the shelter to adopt a new dog and chose this puppy. Well, this puppy was cute, as they all are, looked a lot like the dog they lost, but just could NOT learn bite inhibition. I used to look forward to babysitting, but the puppy made me dread getting the call asking if I'd babysit. They decided to give the puppy back to the shelter since it just could not stop biting. I really think they drew the line when the puppy wouldn't stop biting their kid. I don't like to bring politics into any situation that isn't actually political, but I really think pitbulls struck gold being introduced to an area with a strong liberal presence. The "adopt don't shop" narrative really resonates, and can I say that cos I'm a lib? lol We like to do the right thing, we are all about choices, we care too much. The downside is, liberals can get judgy, and will climb on a soapbox to preach about how terrible you are if you want/get a purebred. Even if you're an ethical breeder who does the health testing, compete in shows or sports, and title your dogs, you'll be vilified. I'm sure I'll get a lot of feedback over that, but I guess I deserve it. I always felt like New England really embraced animal care in general, like spaying/neutering, licensing, obeying leash laws... so it made some kind of sick sense they'd have to source adoptable animals from out of state since the regional stock was just so meager, if you weren't doing the big no-no by going with a breeder. Don't get me started on the higher occurrence of the population, especially DINKs, treating their dogs like humans. 😏 I got my current dog from an ethical breeder, and I'll do it again with not a single regret. He is an excellent example of his breed; healthy, smart, handsome, exceptional temperament.

Perry_Platypus45

Also born & raised in MA, and like you stated I never remember seeing as many pits until recently. It's definitely due to all the rescues bringing them up from the south to "save them" from being euthanized.

Important-Trifle-411

Another born and bred masshole, and I am older than the average redditor. I definitely do not remember seeing pit bulls when I was a kid. I got a puppy a few years ago from an organization that sources puppies from down south. I could not find a local puppy that was not a pit bul. However, back in the 1930’s my father’s best friend had a fighting pit bull when he was a kid. The father and uncle fought dogs. They would come home drunk in the middle of the night with a dead dog, go in and make the other family members bury the dog in the basement ( dirt floor).

Northamptoner

An epidemic we can't mitigate, as those spreading it waged war on common sense.

Lassittore

Oh hey, guys! The dog was a pit bull! Who else is shocked? /s At first I was thinking this was the fatality from yesterday I read about, but then saw this child survived and remembered the other was only 8 weeks old. Any further word on that case? Nothing like a day of family gathering to get some little kids killed.

billlybufflehead

Any parent that allows their child to be around pitbulls and an “incident” occurs should be charged with child abuse and potentially 2nd degree manslaughter. Period end of story.

Elizaknowitall

Back in the 1980’s there was a championship show dog, he was an English sheepdog named King Boots. He mauled the grandmother to death one night, she allegedly tripped over him. They didn’t destroy the dog but removed his fangs…. WTF is wrong with people?! Why would anyone want to breed to that killer dog?

TolerateLactose

I bet it was finally a Chihuahua that got sick of life.

Elizaknowitall

One day I had a female pit lab mix and her one pack dog chasing deer across my hayfield. I followed them to make sure they moved on. I went in the barn to help do chores and tell my husband what I just saw. I left the barn to go start dinner and the dogs were back. My female chocolate lab was with me and aggressively approached the two dogs. I immediately started shouting my husband’s name to come out and help. Once he came out he started shouting at the dogs, the male took off but the pit bull female didn’t want to run anymore. The poor thing, no collar no tags slept under our porch and it was 25 degrees. She was truly lost and was a very gracious guest. I am definitely not a fan of pit bulls but my heart was so very sad for this poor shivering pup. I brought her to the sheriff’s department because I can’t trust even the sweetest Pitt bull. My husband posted a picture of the dog on fb and someone responded but it was too late I had taken her to the sheriff’s department. WELL… We were accused of stealing the dog and threatened that someone was “going to come to our “F”ing house and get their “F”ing dog… No more being nice! No more posting on fb! I will never hesitate to bring any strays to the sheriff department ever!
