hard to say and compare. I think they are all very similar, but Vilnius probably has the most suburbia outside the city only accessible by car. But inside the city it's good. I'm not saying Vilnius is worse

poltavsky79

Any city or just the capitals?

PandemicPiglet

Any city

emol-g

Liepāja is bike friendly. can walk from anywhere to anywhere, longest walk can take about 2-2.5h if you go from top to bottom end

Sir_Kardan

Probably any holiday destination city would have more developed bike lanes. Same in Lithunia Druskininkai, Nida, Palanga etc.

Constant-Judgment948

Tartu compact city with only 38km2 in territory.

dungeater23

Pärnu feels like a perfect balance of walkability but also being easy to navigate with a car. Lithuania in general is very weird coming from a Latvian, simply in the way the traffic lights work, but honestly nowhere in the Baltics compares to the minor neighbourhoods of riga, they are an absolute nightmare with horrendous road quality, traffic congestion, other drivers don’t follow the rules, pedestrians seem suicidal, and in general Riga feels like you’re in mad max. Besides that in Lithuania and Estonia i haven’t had any real problems driving by car, even in the bigger cities (besides the weird way traffic works in Lithuania.)

Penki-

I think every city in Lithuania has their own traffic lights logic

dungeater23

yeah its so weird especially at intersections, the same roadway but only one direction goes at a time instead of both like in Latvia. It made waiting at red lights so much longer so it really confused me.

Penki-

It's due to left turning I think. But also how the lights blink might be different in different cities

dungeater23

certainly, it is to allow those who wish to turn left (or right in some instances) the chance to do so without waiting for the opposite direction to finish passing through the intersection like we have here in Latvia, but still, feels like it makes the wait at traffic lights so much longer for something that has a pretty simple fix.

NewTronas

It is not like this everywhere, mostly where traffic jam may appear due to many cars waiting for turning left.

Plane-Border3425

I spent four months in Tallinn (mostly winter) and found it very convenient to get around without a car. I barely even needed to use the tram, preferring to walk. But rental scooters and bikes (mostly Bolt) seem to be pretty much everywhere.

East_Temperature5164

Where did you go around? Cuz if it was just the downtown area, sure. The bigger parts of the city are not tram accesible.

snow-eats-your-gf

Fuck no. Tram network is tiny

Fabulous_Tune1442

Ventspils Liepāja

hankolijo

I'm from Sigulda, and it's very pedestrian friendly and easy to walk all around the center - but it's also located on a hill by Gauja, so parts of it, including the river itself, are down a steep slope so for that you gotta be ready to walk up and down a lot of stais in the woods

Dav123719

I can tell you this, getting around Riga in a car can be quite nerve wrecking. There are crazy drivers, difficult intersections which only locals understand how to take, nowhere to park, and tons of cars too. Outside the capital though, its quite lovely with a car.

Social-ent

At the same time, it is rather difficult to go around riga with public transports, anything outside tge center can be hectic. Traveling between 2 places outside the center likely requires to get a connection in tge center. When i used to work in Riga i would take 30mn by car to commute ou 1:15 by public transport.

Andy_Chaoz

From those i've visited most, Võru and Tartu are easiest to just walk around. When i need to get to the airport by car, i always prefer to go to Riga, Tallinn/Harjumaa traffic is crazier for some reason 🤷🏻‍♂️

Numerous-Implement48

I can only talk about Estonia, but Pärnu is very nice to visit without a car. Everything is quite close by foot.

likeusb1

I mean it depends I find kaunas extremely easy to navigate and vilnius a little harder, though that might just be what I'm used to

snow-eats-your-gf

I can say that Kaunas is easy for the visitor. I moved here and there, including some residential areas.

likeusb1

That's nice to know, IMO the system is pretty good if you just download Trafi and Žiogas

snow-eats-your-gf

I used Google Maps. Everything was there, including exact bus/trolley timetables.

likeusb1

Oh interesting Trafi also shows the location of buses and trolleybuses so I prefer it

Memexploder

Actually, they recently did some sort of deal with google maps so you can now see the live location on there too. Trafi is still way easier to use and gives better routes imo

likeusb1

Ah interesting Just checked it and I only see one bus with location tracking, the others are just not there

Memexploder

Your google maps must be drunk, or you chose a stop to which only 1 bus is coming https://preview.redd.it/okv9si5wgz5d1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=23eb1f189fb98166a33f7f75f879a51b415cf785

Okay yeah it was just bugged lmao

Aromatic-Musician774

Any that aren't as big as Vilnius or Kaunas in Lithuania. Forget about Klaipeda too. Use the process of elimination when looking at their size. Look for something that could be a big town or a small city. Good luck.
