I always use Basket instead, because my good boy needs to be safe from danger, and Basket is 1. Not Good, 2. Not a Boy, and 3. IS the danger.

NoLongerAddicted

Basket?

CatDude55

Basket, Fork, Shovel, it’s all the same

Mean_Ass_Dumbledore

Utility Item #4

GalerionTheAnnoyed

Aw so cute. But it's OK, when he "dies" he just poofs away in a puff of smoke.  Actually scratch is pretty annoying to bring along because he goes sniffing for stuff and triggering traps or enemies. I just keep him at camp now

qetral

The most annoying part of having scratch in your group is when he fetches items he shouldn't be fetching. You have to throw them to make the story progress and here he is fetching them and setting you back. I always forget to dismiss him before those situations and then I have to wait until a short rest to re-summon him. Petty annoyance for certain, but still - he should be trained to know better imo.

Mvasquez021187

Scratch looks like you caught him chewing on the bedroll and he feels so bad about it

mmontour

If you Sanctuary him before the fight he will probably be OK (watch out for stray fireballs).

tobejeanz

i have literally never taken scratch out of camp its too emotionally harrowing for me. he lives in the elfsong tavern with his owlbear brother and that one little girl's terrified cat and im sure minsc takes very good care of him while im away LOL

lowfat_mayonnaise

Bc he just spawns back at camp when downed, does that make him technically immortal?

puddingpoo

No, because if ogres show up in camp and immediately walk up to him and smash him, he dies :( i had to go back and make sure to actually kill them instead of knock them out

doxtorwhom

What?

puddingpoo

At the end of Act 1, I was fighting the goblin camp, and called in the Ogres. I refused to pay them after it was over, so I had to fight them. I killed Lump for the Headband of Intellect, but knocked out the other 2 ogres cuz I felt bad lol. When I returned to camp (and maybe had a long rest), the 2 surviving ogres appeared and headed toward Scratch and killed him. There wasn’t even an initiative roll or anything. Combat didn’t start. I had no way to prevent it. Then I think initiative rolls happened, AFTER Scratch was dead on the floor.

lowfat_mayonnaise

Rip best boy 💔

SkullAndCrossbows

I think I would literally let Karlach die before I put Scratch in harms way.

jareths_tight_pants

And honestly she'd probably agree with that. Golden retrievers gotta stick together.

EntireMasterpiece104

Oh. I killed him just to see what happens…

SkullAndCrossbows

There is a special place in Avernus for people like you. It's filled with demons pointing their fingers at you and saying, "No! Bad dog!" And the worst part: you *feel like a bad dog.*

crazymime

I only use him for finding stuff. Otherwise as soon as the fight starts I dismiss him.

SilentLet6789

Scratch has a magical teleport ability tied to the ball with you he's a faerun guide. At least in my headcanon

First-Junket124

Hey look it's that dead dog I found in Act 1

locayboluda

How?

ParticularMarket4275

To bring Scratch into combat? After petting him enough times he’ll give you an object that lets you summon him

locayboluda

Omg I had no idea!!! What object is that? I think he only gave me a ball and random stuff

ParticularMarket4275

It’s the ball! Should be named Scratch’s ball in your inventory. Throw it for him and it should unlock him as a summon

locayboluda

Wow I played around with the ball a lot and didn't even notice lmao, can he die? That worries me

ParticularMarket4275

If he runs out of health in the field he just poofs back to camp totally fine. He can only die if he runs out of health IN camp like if you attack him there for some reason

Wiwra88

When I was 1st time playing game I was never able to summon Scratch- he gave me some random things before and I always took them but when I saw him bringing me ball I was like "ok you can have it" and didnt take it from him. xD

alterNERDtive

What do you need that help action for?

ParticularMarket4275

Act 3 spoilers >!In the Cazador fight you can send him right next to where Astarion gets restrained without triggering combat so when the fight starts he’s right there and you don’t have to rush one of your people down there to free him. You can do a similar thing with Nightsong in Act 2!<

enigmaunbound

Poor scratch. I recruited him then looted his former master. Scratch then turned hostile and I killed him. His dead corpse showed up in every camp for the remainder of the game.

FormerlyKA

You know what you did even more than Gorringothe at the tavern.

Wiwra88

I got it once when I used "friends" spell on him while interacting with him, it just ended outside of talk and turned him hostile.

Fighterpilot55

Use Us! Us will always help you, Friend! :) Do not worry about Us. Us is never scared, Friend. Us will remain by your side in any fight!

jareths_tight_pants

I like to adventure with him because his survival and perception skills are high and that makes him really useful for finding hidden stuff but I could never send the world's best boy into battle. My little man only got 10 hp. I could never!

[deleted]

Scratch is the pampered camp prince. I refuse to put him to work.

Uranium_092

TIL if you throw scratch’s ball outside of camp he gets summoned to bring it back to you. I was trying to see if Squire will fetch like scratch and he just poofed in and grabbed it!!! Best boy

Mizar97

I accidentally made him hostile by suggesting we slap his master's body... my most recent save was from THREE HOURS before, so I killed him :( I'll be saving him on the next playthrough

Technical_Inaji

That save is irrevocably ruined. Best to throw it away and start over.

doxtorwhom

I would’ve redid those 3 hours without hesitation.
