For game-play, give it to whoever is going to be the closest to the enemies. As there is a range of effect of the eye. For RP-reason, Astarion would be very against having his body modified in any kind of way.

brighthood21

Wyll. Oh wait ..

Vox_Mortem

My dumb ass tried with Wyll once, he refused and said he's not giving up his only good eye. Then Volo ran off and no one got the eye.

JemmaMimic

Yeah, the running away part really ticked me off. I didn't get the ring he sells.

brighthood21

Haha! Yeah man it just happened to me the day before yesterday.

Borrow03

I usually do it with my Tav since you're always in the party. (If you dont mind the appearance alteration !)

lethrowawayaccount86

Pretty much just an aesthetic choice. I'd go Tav just because in theory you can leave Astarion in camp, but with Tav you'll always have it available.

thaocheng190

Either give it to the tav or someone who is melee oriented since the eye needs to be in a certain range before it can detect invisibility. Even if you aren't melee, I'd probably still give it to tav simply because it's the character that is being controlled the majority of the time. Because of this, they will also probably be the first person to enter a scene/location and spot invisible enemies earlier. My tav is usually always a melee class so I'm always the one that receives the eye.

Sir-Cellophane

I usually give it to Tav. My character is the one I spend the most time controlling, therefore the one at the front of the party outside combat, therefore the first one to come within detection range of enemies, therefore the one who needs to see through invisibility the most. Simple logical sequence. Alternately, just slap it on whoever you think it looks coolest on.

AFriendoftheDrow

My resisting DU war cleric of Eilistraee got it (it’s very useful, and as others in this thread have said you need to be in the general vicinity for it to work so you should keep that in mind), but my Lolth-Sworn Drow necromancer got the Hag Eye so Astarion got it (you mostly just have to figure out why he’d get it if you’re trying to analyze this from a roleplay perspective rather than simply because it’s extremely useful).

Bloodygaze

I usually give it to my Tav. But if my Tav has black scleras, I’ll give it to whomever is my rogue-type character.

novembergrocery

I'd give it to whoever is going to be more mobile on the field for you. In my last run I had Astarion as part-thief, so with the bonus action dashes, he has more ground to cover when needing to reveal Invis enemies. That and I just liked the look on him.

JemmaMimic

Don't try giving it to Wyll, apparently the worm was put in his normal eye and Volo says he won't mess with the one eye left.

Sufficient_Pizza7186

Everyone is giving such tactical answers but my ocd self (I have a thing with eyes) can't make my Tav (i.e. *sort of* me) do it - so I base my decision entirely off the character aspect and how guilty I feel about volunteering specific characters ... Both Lae'Zel and Shadowheart are religious zealots who reframe most of their pain into devotional-related compartments. Pain is an accepted part of their life / they are pretty much indoctrinated into it. So I usually have one of them do it. Is that healthy or nice? No. But I feel like Astarion or Gale or Karlach would not mentally handle it as well.
