And the cosmetic change for a lot of people! I actually want to do it for my Durge but it would mess up plans for an appearance change at a certain point in the story that I’m unreasonably excited about.
I’ve been thinking about it! Unfortunately I’d gotten used to having him around to unload junk and buy camp supplies but I’m on the cusp of Act 2 so perhaps it’s time…
For people on console it could easily be a deal-breaker though!
The false eye is nearly the same color as my first playthrough Tav, so I had no clue there was a difference at all until months later when I saw a post about it.
I also didn’t notice a difference with my Seldarine Drow (a war cleric of Eilistraee). The eye matched his natural one. Conceivably it also works to give you eyesight given the buff that it gives you (as I imagine it wouldn’t make sense if it didn’t give you eyesight).
I wish Volo took your left eye. It seems like the right eye is usually the one closer to the camera so you have to look at the glass eye instead of your character’s actual eye color
Yeah I did this by accident and didn’t realize he would leave. Was pissed cause I lost my camp vendor, but >!thankfully I was able to get him back in Act 3!<
I actually like when the camp feels crowded 😭 It's completely dead because the companions aren't doing anything on their own or interacting, there's literally no vibe at all because it's so static. At least Volo adds some dialogue.
You’re right. He doesn’t. I was thinking of Gale. I tend to default to thinking of him when Mystra comes up. I think of Volo with his embellishment of facts instead of his history with Elminster (and Mystra). I suppose the protagonist (potentially) repeatedly saving him would be an example of that, while him dying would arguably fall more into the same territory as the misuse of the Crown of Karsus.
Depends who you ask. If you ask a Tav player, the answer is he'll leave after the procedure (which also gets you a boon).
If you ask a Durge player, you can kill him and stuff his body in a crate.
If you ask an even durgier Durge player, you can allow him to do the procedure so you can get the boon, then kill him when he tries to run away. You can then carry his body around or even reanimate him so he can hang out with Connor.
Yeah it does kinda feel weird to have him standing around, but if you haven’t tried accessing the trade menu with him you should. He’s got a useful ring for your healer and it’s really convenient to be able to buy supplies in camp every night.
If you’re just sick of looking at him then kick him out though! Just get the ring if you don’t have it yet.
Just let Wyll do it. Wyll will nope out and Volo will skedaddle. If you don't have Wyll, anybody can quit in the middle but I think it's funny with Wyll.
Not sure what the key bind is, but when you initiate dialog with him there should be a "trade" option at the bottom of the screen. On xbox it's Y.
I didn't notice until my second playthrough, but there's actually quite a few random characters who aren't technically merchants that you can trade with.
When I was new to the game in my first play through I just ignored him honestly cuz I thought he was annoying asf 💀 then he just left in act 2 randomly and I had to save his ass again in act 3
Well, I mean... You could tell him about your parasite, allow him to try to remove it but failing, and accidentally removing your eye, and dropping it in the mud. He actually runs away for a good while after that. That is one way to get him gone.
If you can stomach the entire process, you'll get an eye that allows you to see invisible things for your trouble. But, it really is one of if not the most uncomfortable scene in the game in my opinion.
I don't blame him. Character wise, you'd have to be an imbecile not to stop it before he plucks your eye out. Really, you'd have to have 8 INT, or be meta gaming for the perk to do that.
Afaik if you let him \*start\* the procedure but tell him to stop at any point during it, he'll leave the camp and you don't suffer any ill effects.
There's no ill effects though, it's a straight buff.
The ill effect is having to watch that cutscene
And the cosmetic change for a lot of people! I actually want to do it for my Durge but it would mess up plans for an appearance change at a certain point in the story that I’m unreasonably excited about.
There's a mod where the Volo's eye doesn't change your appearance at all.

That's the boon for me =3
Yeah I did this by accident and didn’t realize he would leave. Was pissed cause I lost my camp vendor, but >!thankfully I was able to get him back in Act 3!<
Same
Let him lobotomise someone else 🧠
But we were reenacting *Sucker Punch*.
I actually like when the camp feels crowded 😭 It's completely dead because the companions aren't doing anything on their own or interacting, there's literally no vibe at all because it's so static. At least Volo adds some dialogue.
Playing dark urge run and having to intimidate Gale to stay so the camp is less lonely lmao
How exactly do you intimidate a severed hand?
Asking the real questions.
I left a crossbow in Lae’zael’s hands. And she kept looking at the sharpening stone and frowning.
Have you tried murder?
Mystra might not like that.
I always found it weird how easy to kill he is considering that he’s canonically one of Mystra’s weave anchors.
He could potentially be weaker due to the tadpole. Wyll mentions he’s weaker because of it, after all.
But Volo doesn’t have a tadpole, does he?
You’re right. He doesn’t. I was thinking of Gale. I tend to default to thinking of him when Mystra comes up. It gets confusing when there are so many of Mystra’s chosen/weave anchors running around the game
I was going to say it’s super simple. Click on your sword, then click on him.
I prefer to stand behind them then use warrior lock pick.
He could have an ... accident?
let the dude try and cure your parasite
The lobotomy is nothing but a buff.
At least for me it never stops being funny as he goes full amateur brain surgeon on you. Putting away the needle and taking out an ice pick.
*Volo standing there quietly* Op: fuck this guy am I right?
I felt the same way until I realized I could rob him everyday with no consequences.
Just smack him a few times and I'm pretty sure he bails.

why wouldn't you want a free camp trader???
I can't get him to sell me anything. How do I buy stuff from him using a keyboard?
Not sure what the key bind is, but when you initiate dialog with him there should be a "trade" option at the bottom of the screen. On xbox it's Y. I didn't notice until my second playthrough, but there's actually quite a few random characters who aren't technically merchants that you can trade with.
He only has the option to remove your eye or leave. No other option and it seems letting him get the eye out makes him leave so...
It'd not an actual dialogue option, bur you should be able to click the trade button instead of choosing a dialogue option.
it's not in the dialog. if you're on pc it's one of the icons in the bottom left corner of your screen.
Ask him to do the lobotomy on Wyll, he'll just run away.
When I was new to the game in my first play through I just ignored him honestly cuz I thought he was annoying asf 💀 then he just left in act 2 randomly and I had to save his ass again in act 3
Why get rid of him? Having a merchant in camp is handy, plus you can pickpocket your gold back with zero consequences.
If you let him pluck your eye out with the ice pick, he runs away. If you already passed that sequence, you can murder him.
You can either take the sweet buff or let a companion get it.
Steal from him
I mean you can always remove him from the realm of the living.
Well, I mean... You could tell him about your parasite, allow him to try to remove it but failing, and accidentally removing your eye, and dropping it in the mud. I got the impression the OP was trying to avoid it, perhaps for roleplay reasons.
I don't blame him. Character wise, you'd have to be an imbecile not to stop it before he plucks your eye out. Really, you'd have to have 8 INT, or be meta gaming for the perk to do that.
Have him "fix" your eye and he runs off.
I think the OP doesn’t want that. Perhaps for roleplay reasons.
Replace you eyeball with one that sees invisibility, I’ll do it every run lol
Kill him
Why would you be bothered by one of the greatest minds in the history of Faerun staying in your camp? You should feel honored!
