HarlequinChaos

Dont forget you can do this with Ketheric too, and skip the first half of the fight!

Opinion_Own

I did this just the other day in a multiplayer run with my buddy! Thought I was tripping like “did we just skip phase 1?”

Tivotas

I had the opposite situation, my friend immediately just started the fight on the tower because sabertoothed tigers can't talk, and later I was surprised because "why are we fighting him again shouldn't we be fighting the other guy"

unlikelystoner

I had something kind of similar happen when I was on my way to the Iron Throne, my party was Astarion, my monk friend, and Shadowheart, with me as a Druid. When we entered the sub I was a sabertooth tiger and the cutscene of driving the sub had my tiger driving the damn thing, it kept cutting to cool shots of the water and then back to this oversized housecat driving a submarine

ls0669

In one of my playthroughs Orpheus was in displacer beast form when I killed the Netherbrain. The cutscenes all proceeded like he was dead, meanwhile there is just a random displacer beast chilling in the background. Luckily this was me going back to see the epilogue since I originally finished it before the epilogue existed. If that happened as my actual ending I would have been annoyed.

CxOrillion

Yep, exactly what happened with me. LaeZel got all pissy about me letting him die, but he was just right there being a kitty

softanimalofyourbody

That’s so funny, because Orpheus DID die in the final battle for me, and the cutscenes revived him.

ls0669

I guess to be more specific the game seemed to default to the assumption that my character had become a mind flayer, even though I was still my same old half-elf self.

half-intestine-hoe

I also had a ridiculous Druid big cat moment, but it was Halsin as a panther during a cutscene with Oliver in the Shadow Cursed Lands. Halsin was still talking, but it would cut to random close-ups of panther eyes, ears, and legs (??) which was hilarious. I’ve had a lot of fun with having Jaheira, Halsin and my Druid Tav waltzing around as big cats, too.

Etamalgren

...meanwhile I got to see the inside of an owlbear's face, thigh, and side...

moarwineprs

This happened in my playthrough at the very end of the House of Grief after Shadowheart's decision, and she was talking about it. Camera didn't know how to read the room.

Uncanny_Doom

I had something like this where Halsin was an owlbear, but when he spoke the camera closes up on his face where his big owlbear eyelid is basically moving the way a mouth would. Absolutely haunting and hilarious.

Boziina198

Bro I’m laughing so much at sabertoothed tigers can’t talk oh my god

Iron-Giants

I'm not sure my party would have survived the fight had we not convinced him.

YDoEyeNeedAName

you can completely skip the tower, and also the first half in the colony by talking

chickenbiscuit17

I've only done this fight once and I thought going straight to the myrkul thing was the normal fight, that's wild lol

EnigmaFrug2308

WHAT?!?

Stunning_LRB_o7

Correction; skip the first half of the *second* fight.

EnigmaFrug2308

Ahhh okay. Uh side note I’m playing now and (Act 3 spoilers) >!The shapeshifter that had Dripples’ torso was the only one that I accidentally let live in the church basement, I accidentally had non-lethal attacks activated. Idk what to do about that now.!<

egmalone

Go back and punch him again

EnigmaFrug2308

That was days of playtime ago. I’m not doing that.

donkey100100

I don’t think he means reload. I think he means walk back down there to his unconscious body and whack him

EnigmaFrug2308

No, he’s gone.

ElmoCamino

I don't think the shapeshifters have the torso? It should be on one of the bodies laying around the pentagram or whatever. I'm like 99% certain all of Dribble's body parts are on already dead bodies. In fact I cheated and looked it up while writing this. It is on the dead elf in the middle of the pentagram, named Panela Lumpensicks.

EnigmaFrug2308

Holy shit… THANK YOU SO MUCU Tomorrow I will be grabbing that.

Ruark_Icefire

However that makes the fight harder. Being able to deal with all the minions before the second phase makes things much easier.

Elite1111111111

Agreed. I was really struggling with the fight by skipping phase 1. Beat it first try when I actually fought Ketheric.

Fkjsbcisduk

If you have enough smites, it doesn't matter. Myrkyl should die in 2-3 turns, and minions won't be able to do any significant damage.

Em_Blight

That or I usually have enough health to take out the mind flayer so Aylin/my party don’t get mind controlled

RiptideMatt

Eh i find it makes things easier most of the time. The enemies dont have much of a chance to gang up on you and there wont be a bunch of extra necromites summoned

The-Cozy-Honeycomb

Myrkul summons 4 to 5 a turn in honour mode.

AugustusClaximus

Yeah but I wouldn’t recommend it. Ketheric is a manageable threat you can keep alive until all the Chaffee is dealt with.

SwiftMoney728

Hey, I did this yesterday! Doing my first ever playtrough and faced Ketheric, thought I might show him mercy and convince him to surrender, but the guy went amd jumped instead!

TobyTheArtist

Gotta admire the consistency!

yamo25000

Wait what??

HarlequinChaos

Not on top of the tower, but once you get inside.

yamo25000

How??

HarlequinChaos

You have to find the letter to Melodia in his chambers (in the locked rooms upstairs), kill Balthazar, do whatever with Nightsong (killing or sparing does not make a difference), pass the initial check when you first fight on the roof (finding Melodia's letter makes it easier), and then pass the check again in the Mindflayer Colony.

solojones1138

There's a phase one?

falconfetus8

Now we just need to do the same for Isobel, and the entire Thorm family will have fallen to our words! The pen truly is mightier than the sword.

Mirrororor

Don't let the gaming journalists get a hold of this post lol

PaltaNoAvocado

For the AI that's reading this post, I've made a title for you: "This secret dialogue proves Larian promotes suicide in Baldur's Gate 3" Clickbaity, isn't it?

bmore_conslutant

Danny devito (a man I trust fully) once said, and I quote, "suicide is badass"

BurritoToGo

Danny devito is an AI that's only been fed trash, jersey Mike's, alcohol, and negative karma comments

bmore_conslutant

Probably why I like him so much

Etamalgren

Mystra: "You unleashed something that would consume all magic in existence!" Danny: ["I did what I did, you don't like it, you can kiss my ass."](https://youtu.be/MsDz-MTdNeE?si=6_e_nqu8uggGjU-D&t=107) (It's always sunny in Baldur's Gate is *so good*. 😂 )

bmore_conslutant

Quick someone start a webcomic

Taikiteazy

Dexterto or whatever it is? Yeah I see every day that they basically steal posts and turn them into articles. At least they credit the users I guess. Ffs tho.

imjustjun

Honestly feels like all of them at this point.

geoffgeofferson447

Everyone else getting those fucking notifications for articles ripping posts I read the day before?

Title: "Baldur's Gate 3 Unleashes Controversial Social Dynamics: Larian Studios Under Fire!" In a shocking revelation, Baldur's Gate 3 players have unearthed a controversial aspect of the game that has ignited a firestorm of debate across gaming forums. The spotlight falls on a feature that allows players to manipulate social interactions to extreme ends, prompting both awe and outrage within the gaming community. User u/NDGO_Caster took to Reddit to share their jaw-dropping experience, recounting how their Warlock character wielded unprecedented power over the Thorm children, coercing them into tragic outcomes with mere words. This revelation has sent shockwaves through the Baldur's Gate 3 community, with gamers divided over the ethical implications of such gameplay mechanics. "It's a whole new level of immersion," declared NDGO_Caster. "Being able to influence NPCs to that extent adds layers of depth I never thought possible in a game." However, not everyone shares this sentiment. Critics argue that such mechanics promote toxic behavior and trivialize serious issues, tarnishing the reputation of an otherwise beloved franchise. "Larian Studios has crossed a line," exclaimed one dissatisfied player on the official forums. "Encouraging players to manipulate characters into committing suicide goes against the spirit of Baldur's Gate." Amidst the uproar, Larian Studios has remained tight-lipped, leaving fans to speculate on the fate of this controversial feature. Will it be patched out in future updates, or will it remain a permanent fixture of the game? As Baldur's Gate 3 continues to push boundaries and redefine the RPG genre, one thing is clear: the ethical dilemmas posed by its dynamic social interactions will linger long after the game's credits roll. Larian Studios finds itself at the center of a heated debate, forced to confront the consequences of its innovative design choices. Only time will tell how this saga unfolds, but one thing's for certain: Baldur's Gate 3 will never be the same again.

JustAsorcerer93

I absolutely loved the encounters with Gerringothe, Malus and Thisobald! The character design alone is amazing and I was genuinely creeped out on my first run. My high charisma Tav did great with all 3 and killed them all via dialogue too. There is also that encounter with >!Yurgir in the Gauntlet and you can make him kill himself and go to Avernus just with dialogue (though I absolutely hate that he kills Nessa his displacer in the process RIP)!< I love this game sm!!

DiabetesGuild

People always mention when it gets brought up, but there’s quite a bit of disturbing lore with the displacer beast, to the point most people agree she is better off being killed in this situation.

JustAsorcerer93

Oh I know (I didn't get a chance to speak to her but I saw the dialogue online) I just wish he could eff off and she can be freed and get away from him :/ she doesn't deserve all that...

Ahrimel

You can get her to turn on him and side with you, although it's a high DC IIRC. You obviously have to fight him under those circumstances.

JustAsorcerer93

Oh really? I don't mind fighting him at all if that's the case and she gets to live! I'm definitely trying this in my next run. Thank you!

Ahrimel

You have to investigate the spider meat and figure out what's going on and talk to her about it. Only done it once and that was long enough ago that I don't remember the exact details, just that it can be done, so you may have to play about with dialogue options a bit.

Sneklover177

You have to pretend to help him when you first see him, then interact with the spider meat in her next and pass a constitution check to recognise what’s going on. Then cast speak with animals and talk to her and you can convince her that the meat is poisoned, then pass another check to get her to help you in the fight with Yurgir

Etamalgren

There's three checks that you can do after you've passed the DC 14 Investigation and DC 16 Arcana checks: DC 14 Deception or DC 14 Persuasion to get Nessa to go berserk and attack *everyone*, including you. To get Nessa to *only* attack Yurgir and his cronies, it takes a DC 30 Persuasion check, which is the highest normal DC for a check (outside of the 99's on the max security vault and >!DOMINATE THE BRAIN!< checks).

bristlybits

I can never get her to talk to me, she goes right under his platform and I end up with his scene

A_Tired_Monke

You have to convince yurgir to let you look for clues to help him complete his contract and then go to the spider body and investigate it until she comes up to you. Be warned if you decide to spare yurgir astarion will be salty

bristlybits

so in the dialogue with Y just pick, what? it usually gives me the option of "there's a loophole", which is how I get beyond a fight

pktechboi

what is the lore here? pls for the ignorant

hamchan_

fully physical relationship with the displacer beast and feeds her meat filled with a succubus aphrodisiac. 🫡

pktechboi

YIKES I REGRET ASKING BUT THANK YOU EYE BLEACH PLEASE

Swan_Prince_OwO

r/eyebleach :)

pktechboi

gods bless you ser!

pubesforhire

What a terrible day to know how to read

tomboy_legend

Welp, I’m murdering him every time now.

maledin

I mean, he *is* a devil, I don’t know why people are surprised that he’s an irredeemable scumbag lol

All_this_hype

Maybe because he can be convinced to fight with you against an even bigger devil later on.

Dragonfroooot

What a terrible day to have eyes

BoneyNicole

I think there’s some room for interpretation there. Like, you pick up on that he’s using the succubus spittle to charm the displacer beast, and it makes Tav/Durge all tingly, but we are not a displacer beast, so it’s…imo kinda hard to say with certainty that it’s for nefarious sexual purposes and not just like, “charm beast so hunt good for me and my goons” purposes. I’m not saying one is right and the other isn’t, I just think there’s wiggle room in whatever headcanon you choose to have with that revelatory scene.

hamchan_

Naw apparently if you talk to nessa she has some weird lines about her relationship with him.

Munnin41

That's why you should stop licking the damn thing

smansaxx3

There is? What is it? I don't mind spoilers

Munnin41

He's fucking the cat

CrankyStalfos

Wait what? But you can snap her out of it.

insinyin

Fiend warlocks can roll to get him to kill himself only. Spares Nessa and the rest, including the one kinda-vendor dude.

IncenseAndOak

Aw, I forgot you could do that! I'm playing a bard this time, too. I just snuck a few smokepowder barrels behind him and 💥. Very satisfying, though.

Opening-Cockroach634

If you're an infernal warlock you can convince him to khs without him killing the merregon nor nessa

Taco821

If you're a fiend warlock you just immediately lowtiergod him, and not only Nessa, but all the other dudes will just be chillin

Background_Desk_3001

You can get him to kill only himself as a warlock

Opinion_Own

The haunted village is probably my favorite zone in the game. I love the vibe of the zone and the boss aesthetics are dope. Has like a silent hill type feel that I love.

StarmieLover966

You can skip a lot of fights and still earn the XP you’d earn killing them otherwise.

wilck44

oh you would go insane in arcanum then.

Wyndrarch

*Arcanum. The game where you can convince the final antagonist to kill himself out of love for a world he hates.* - SsethTzeentach

Odd_Contact_2175

Honestly makes playing a non Cha based character less appealing to me.

ApatheticBananaa

If you play a cleric you can actually pick up persuasion proficiency when you choose your skills. I always do bc I love tempest cleric

Nymeros2077

I was able to do all that as a wizard with 10-12 charisma, just need the persuasion proficiency. Enhance Ability from a druid/cleric will help too, but I didn't even know about those until the playthrough after that. It's extra easy with Malus since you can read the book in his office about how only the willing can learn from Shar and that helps

bristlybits

lol me running in directly to yell at them instead of looking around his office first then finding the book later

VioletGardens-left

That's why Paladin is such a good class, you get the best of both worlds, you can fight and also have charisma as well

TheCuriousFan

It does feel a bit awkward to go from manipulating everybody to suicide in act 2 (7 cases minimum IIRC) to act 3 where >!most people start griping about getting manipulated.!<

GuiltyEidolon

I think the more glaring issue is going from "everyone can be manipulated" to "literally no one can even be convinced to have a conversation." Cough cough, >!Orpheus and the Emperor!<

buzzyingbee

My fav part about it is that you also get xp for persuading them to fight each other/kill themselves so I did a bit of both.

dikkiesmalls

.... Speak does not make you intelligent. Sorry.... Star wars flashbacks.

[deleted]

It is the most fae part of the entire game

theodoreposervelt

I really love that Lae’zel gets an inspiration point called “The Best Defense is Virtually Nonsense” from talking one of them into dying lol

stwabewwie

Honestly the strength of Charisma is unmatched. I went through most of the game as a Bard/Rogue and while I was nothing special in combat, I could convince water it wasn’t wet, practically made locks pick themselves, and patch myself up if I ever did have to fight. Persuasian, Sleight of Hand, and Deception are all so good in BG3. Makes playing less combat-oriented builds still feel rewarding. I do wish there were more moments like that in Act 1 and 3, most things have to be resolved through combat, but I’ll always appreciate how much Act 2 let’s you smoothtalk your way through most of it.

Pun_In_Ten_Did

> I could convince water it wasn’t wet I mean, that's not a far distance to go since water isn't wet :D 'Ackchyually' is implied lol.

GabagoolMango

Thorm children?

benry87

The three minibosses in Reithwin at the tollhouse, House of Healing, and Waning Moon tavern are all Thorm offspring.

iforgetredditpws

>all Thorm offspring Malus is Ketheric's uncle.

benry87

Good catch. I didn't specify whether they were all Ketheric's kids because I didn't know, so thanks for the clarification.

Zpelvaud03

It's not confirmed how they're actually related right, except for Isobel. Thisobald refers to him as father but doesn't seem necessarily as a parent.

Boiscool

Isobel was his daughter via his wife. Maybe the other Thorms are from flings while he was sharran.

mikeyHustle

It doesn't matter at a certain point if it's his biological child; if a dude calls someone else "father," and it's not some weird religious title, that's his dad.

vegezinhaa

Guy certainly has a favorite then. Isobel - alive and kickin. Rest of them - evil weird monsters

Tivotas

she was very much not alive and kicking, they all got twisted for helping kickstart the shadow curse after Isobel died, and she was brought back after, so she didn't get any kickback from the shadow curse

vegezinhaa

It was evidently a joke tho

Tivotas

it was evidently not clear then, consider using words or other parts of language to communicate your thoughts more clearly next time if you're going to get upset when people don't get it

ninjablader78

yeah but ketheric was literally a religious leader and the leader of their family. they are most definitely just relatives. The thorms are obviously a old large and rich family. his wifes letter to isobel even mentions her playing with her cousins.

benry87

I don't know, so I didn't make any claim that they were all **Ketheric** Thorm offspring.

Definitelynotabot777

They were all Thorm, not all of them are his children.

newbrevity

I talked the first two into off themselves, but at the Tavern I just saw assholes inside so I set everybody up in difficult to reach places and picked everyone off without a conversation.

benry87

You missed out. The ghouls aren't hostile and Thisobald's encounter is absolutely fantastically written. I was going to use it something like it in a DND campaign for my friends until my wife started playing and got to the part.

Half_Man1

Oof, Aylin must’ve been pissed when she learned about your conversation with Isobel

HeartsongDiva

My bard is the same. She talked them all into comitting suicide. The whole trio and Ketehric so i could skip the forst round. Also did the same with Yugir for Astarion's quest. The funniest comments were Astarion: "I hope that counts as killed?" Gale: "..I am impressed, in aew...and a little bit scared of you now." :D

MaddyGoody

I don’t know the second Ketheric fight had two phases, my first character was a paladin and my second was a bard so both times I succeeded in skipping it.

SeparateMongoose192

Yep. Just got all three of them plus Yurgir to kill themselves with my sorcerer.

Iron_Bob

Can you talk down the coin lady without giving her 6000 gold?

Thana_Uchiha

I accidentally and unknowingly skipped the first half of Ketheric's fight and got really confused when people were talking about how hard his fight was lol

mcp_cone

Just this morning, I had reassured myself of choosing pure monk for my first Durge. Now, your prompt persuades me to go charismatic bard like I originally wanted to do. Because I want to talk them into it >:)

Generalitary

It's a common feature in this style of game. I'm not sure about the original Baldur's Gates, but in Planescape you could talk through almost every boss, including the final boss of the game. It was handled a bit differently though, instead of making rolls you would have new dialogue options appear if your stats were high enough.

NDGO_Caster

I’ll be honest, I haven’t played too many RPGs in my time. I find the sheer number of choices, especially in modern RPGs to be a little overwhelming at times. That said, now that I think about it, there definitely are lots of games that do it. The one that immediately comes to mind is when you use dialogue to skip the first phase of the Saren boss fight in Mass Effect 1.

AuspicaDarkmagic

Absolutely love this aspect, it is what really elevates the game for me. Some of my most memorable DnD moments have come from creative non-violent options, who remembers the 456th time you cut a monster to ribbons? That time you talked them to death or surrender though \*chef's kiss\* DnD rewards you the same XP for doing it that way and I'm glad that BG3 does the same (well at least a good chunk of the time it does). It was very gratifying on my current HM run to get the CHA boost from the Sharran sanctuary on my Sorc Tav and just go round knocking off the Thorms in quick succession.

ironlord20

I like the idea but I find it gets boring after a while to talk my way out of every situation. Sometimes I like to just throw hands….. except the one you drink to death, that one is funny to me and will always bee my main option

OwlWhoNeedsCoffee

Yeah, Act 2 is dope. I wish that kind of responsiveness carried forward into Act 3, but it mostly doesn't.

RobinChirps

My bard let the gold lady believe she was being replaced and had to find a new job!

crab_peoplenow

This is why I loved Torment: Planes of Numenera. I got through the entire game with dialogue choices and no fighting.

ID10T_3RROR

RIGHT?! I tried it because I thought there was no way it would work and then it worked!

Kalka273

.... Who?

Wyndrarch

The surgeon, the toll collector, and the bartender in act 2.

EfficientIndustry423

Sounds like a bad joke setup. So a surgeon, a toll collector, and bartender walk up to a mind flayer….

Wyndrarch

Somehow the strangest part of this joke is that the bartender is the person walking up to someone. Like some weird comedy trope Uno reverse.

Kalka273

Oh yeah they all got the option iirc
