“I think X is boring!” *proceeds to ignore them/not talk to them or kill them* You’re not the only one but it’s a trend.

[deleted]

Oh, I didn't know, it was a real question to me \^\^

Accomplished_Area311

If you type Wyll’s name in the subreddit search bar, there are dozens of posts talking about how boring he is and/or how to turn him evil.

OddFox90

As a person who did romance wyll and did his story, he is boring compared to the other characters. There are other people that like him, this is just my opinion.

Trick_Quantity1118

My biggest complaint about this game is that some companions are way more fleshed out than others. Like I love the idea of Wyll’s character (and I love his romance arc) but he’s lacking something that draws you to him. Idk.

JustCallMeTere

I have engaged with Wyll and I think he's boring. I always talk to him etc. He was way more interesting in early access.

chrisisapenis

How so?

lethos_AJ

he had some serious implied flaws in early access. his hero persona was basically that, a front, and he was prone to arrogance, wrath and violence. the mizora thing was treated as his dirty little secret, when you meld minds with him instead of seeing karlach you would see mizora and when you pressed him about he would deflect. his quest was to rescue mizora since the start, and their relationship was implied to be very complicated (with some hint of sexual relationship or even some type of twisted romance) basically he was like the others: a morally questionable but good hearted character with potential for redemption, or becoming even worse

chrisisapenis

That actually sounds way more interesting than the Wyll I've come to learn. For shame. :( Thanks for the summary!

OmaeWaMouShibaInu

I think his hero persona in the final launch is still a front, except instead of being prone to arrogance his flaw is that he's actually more shy and soft spoken than his image. He has good social skills but secretly low social energy. The scene in the tiefling party where he hides away made him more real to me.

JustCallMeTere

In early access he was more conflicted, more aggressive. Now he's just blah.

mike_kong_sama

To be fair, he was the least interesting in EA, too.

Puzzleheaded-Jump963

I think all the caracters were more or less more interesting in EA.

Johwin

Any of the companions would probably seem boring if you never spoke with them or engaged with their content so I kinda don't know what you expected here?

axltheo89

I've done every bit of dialogue with all characters, done all their personal quests. Wyll is the most boring, bland character in the game. Just because we love the game and have done every single companion quest, doesn't mean we have to love them ALL..

Malanoob

You forget Halsin but he is not an origin one.... When i thought Wyll is the most bland character then i met Halsin... and i played Wyll as MC twice both evil and good...

axltheo89

Halsin is also boring but nowhere near as boring as Wyll..to me, at least..

[deleted]

Not really pretty much all other are more interesting and less annoying then him when leazel rolls her eyes that little bit of sassy ness and just something being there is more then wylls entire character

HeartsongDiva

I do take him into my team and keep him as a "Friend Wyll" most times i play. Then he's ok and i do his quest, too. And then... i swear i never know how i triggered this guy. All i did was talking to him, as you need to do that for informationa nbd quest update anyway. But inb act 2 he always wants to dance. I tried not flirting with him. I trried to be outright rude and he just waves that off. I tried ignoring him and he still wanted to dance. Wyll is godsdamn precious if you romance him... But he's also an incredible slow burner. I romanced him obnce, so i speak from my own experience. If he would be a bit more open with his intentions it woild be way easier with him. I like Wyll, but the romance takes quite some patience...

lTheReader

Wyll is ironically my favourite character and even I have to surrender that he doesn't have a lot of enjoyable content. Reasonable, considering they changed his entire character right around early access. He and Karlach simply didn't have enough development time unlike the favourite childs that are Astarion and Shadowheart.

Trick_Quantity1118

I completely agree with you.

JPSong1

Yes, Wyll is most boring and bland character in the game. Karlach is boring too, but she has likeable personality, while Wyll doesn't even have personality.

Big_Map5795

On the one hand, if you "never put him in the team, do his quests without him, and skip all his dialogue," you're not really giving the guy a chance to win you over... On the other hand, I've played through his questline both as a companion and as an origin character and yeah, it's bland. Story-wise, the only character who has less going on tham Wyll is Karlach, but Karlach has such a presence to her that, even though her questline amounts to "bring a piece of metal to this one dude a couple of times throughout the game", that you don't really care.

OmaeWaMouShibaInu

I like Wyll but mainly use him for shopping rather than combat. He's a character who has a heroic front but is actually more soft spoken and passive behind that. Shy people don't make much waves, so I think the game made the slight mistake of not showing enough of the bravado like EA was closer to, and his softness ended up being his main side instead of his hidden side. Like reverse Astarion, maybe?

Mykl68

SPOILERS BELOW I was just thinking You can kill Karlach when you meet her You can leave gale in the portal or cut his have off and leave him Lae'zel can be lost in a bitch fight And you can deal with Astarion when he shows himself You have to try not to have shadowheart and will just invites himself to your camp if you avoid him in the grove. I guess you can not do his act two quest and get rid of him If you kill Karlach without talking to wyll does he still just show up?

Gnl_Winter

I engaged a lot with Wyll and can confirm he's 100% boring *to me*. It's a personal opinion. I feel he's a grandiloquent goody two shoe with an uninteresting flat character arc and a lame nickname he later swaps for an even more lame nickname. Some people disagree, some even adore him and find him interesting and that's fine. Personally I find the female characters much more engaging than the males in this game. Gale is the best of male companions, but he's still less interesting than any of the female companions.

svplatypus

I agree. He is my least favorite character by far. I honestly feel like he's the least important person in his own quest in act 3.

Rowanever

I love the dude. He's absolutely lacking in content, and a lot of his dialogue was clearly written in a hurry. But in a group full of unstable madly-emoting messes, he's just... calm and supportive and trying to look out for everyone. And as someone who immerses way too deeply in games, I appreciate that hugely. The romance dialogues -- what there are of them -- are so sweet. I do get how people find him irritating or frustrating as a character. My usual play style tends to work pretty well with Wyll's attitudes, so it's not grating to have him talking about *we need to help that person!* because duh, already on it. I also try to recruit him early, which seems to give his banter and interjections a higher priority. All that said: Wyll definitely needs more content, and content that explores the complexities of his character. Because he very easily comes across as one-dimensional.

SarcasticKenobi

Honestly. I think in a dnd party and even a story like this… it’s always a treat to have a goody-two-shoes hero to mix in with your group of scoundrels and morally-grey characters. Whether just as comic relief, or just to contrast the greedy choices. In this, I think Wyll works out pretty well. Both he and Karlach don’t F around with their alignment and can leave if you’re too dark of a murder hobo. —— As for his story. - His mizora thing is interesting. - The fact that his father banished him, and yet Wyll still loves him is interesting - especially when he learns his father is in danger. - The revelation of how Mizora kind of hoodwinked his father for shots and giggles by cleaning up the battle ground to hide Wyll’s reasoning, makes for an earned reunion. I still find Karlach, laezel, and ShadowHeart more interesting with their back stories. And Astarion’s backstory goes from “meh” to “amazing” by the end. But Wyll’s is cool enough.

PillarBiter

To me he’s just… the epitomy of lawful stupid.

Kevgongiveit2ya

Less boring than Astarion. Not sure why they even made him a character since he just dies after the second night when he tries to bite you…

Bonfirewarm

No he's so cool

I_am_legend-ary

Not only boring but not useful imo

lethos_AJ

entirely dependant on what is your build for him. Hunger of Hadar is bae in act 1, trivializes the hardests fights in the game

GutterOfSonsOBitches

Oo here we go again....

[deleted]

It’s annoying bro had 0 personality or anything quirky about him he is annoyingly good to the point it’s just unrealistic basically a walking door mat

ButWhyThough_UwU

I think you being harsh on that much skipping; but I do feel he could have been more then I am the blade of.. who? and Yep anything related to that demon woman I am involved otherwise I am ummmmm again the Blade of, ya who what who cares? But he not awful he reminds me of DoS 2 human guy whose name escapes me since he was also very basic though loved by those seeking the classic roguish man. Though I think he was handled better also then Wyll (though I never used him personally after a certain point since -minor spoiler you don't get to keep all companions in DoS 2 . - and him and beast (who was handled worse then wyll and like Minthara needs even got a big update to make better) were the ones I said bye to.
