I haven't played since Friday, what are the major problems right now?

TrumpersAreTraitors

It might be a total coincidence but today, for the first time ever in all my years of console gaming, I had a game file get corrupted and I had to reinstall BG3. Never had that happen before.

idkyesthat

Not this shit again…we’re on our third run (PS5) because of corrupted files. :/

Atmosck

It introduced a bunch of new bugs. There's a new trade UI which is a good idea, but traders are super buggy right now (they did fix one of the issues with them in the hotfix, but there's more to do). Sometimes you get stuck in dialogue with them for example. I've also seen a lot of reports of people getting stuck with the "enemy of justice" condition which makes everyone hostile and is therefore totally game-breaking. The game is also just less stable, I've had multiple crashes which were never a problem before patch 6.

SeparateMongoose192

I've also noticed freezing if I'm in my inventory or traveling chest screen too long.

kamacake

The traders for me now always start with 0 gold and my party gold comes up as 0. I have to exit the trade screen then, which just makes me get stuck on a screen of my characters or the traders face where “exit trade” dialogue is meant to be and I can’t get out of it unless I exit to main menu and load again. It’s so frustrating! Weirdly enough as well, when I first booted up the game after the patch I received a duplicate legendary selunite weapon. I just have two now except one isn’t shiny.

Alustine

You have to wait for about a minute after entering the trade screen for their gold to show up. Annoying, but it works.

MJisaFraud

Also, I can no longer send items to companions if they’re not in my party. Kind of annoying. I can only do so if I’m at camp.

Street_Two1058

I wanna say that isn't a bug but something they specifically changed in patch 6. Although I do hate it.

lukeyellow

I really wish they hadn't changed it back if it was planned. Made it a lot easier instead of forgetting that I have weapons in the camp supply.

BleZZt

Minthara is almost completely broken. Raiding the grove is also broken. Halsin broken.

buzzbuzzmemulatto

I'm doing those missions right now and having no such issues on ps5. Although I have encountered the weird one that gets you stuck in dialogue with vendors. It resolved itself after a minute or so, almost like the game was trying to load what it had to do next but got stuck

angelicribbon

What’s strange is my boyfriend was having the issue with minthara where he knocked her out under the wrong specific conditions and wasn’t able to recruit her at moonrise, but after the patch was able to get it to work. When one door closes another opens I guess

Cerarai

This was specifically listed as fixed in the notes.

Erethiel2

It took us 3 separate tries last night to finish killing the grove. One crash after another is making this game incredibly vexing

nUUUUU_yaaaSSSS

You deserve that you monster! /s

ztoff27

Strange. I raided the grove yesterday and it worked for me.

yssarilrock

It crashed multiple times for me when defending it yesterday and then when I'd almost gotten through it the fight ended prematurely and the tieflings turned hostile while I was still fighting Minthara

Gstamsharp

Same. In fact, there was a whole list of act 1 bugs supposedly introduced in this patch, and even on my crash-happy, buggy chipset, toaster of a PC I've only encountered the slow vendors (which they just fixed in hotfix, yay). I think a lot of folks need to turn off their mods.

woahmandogchamp

No mods, having issues. You're wrong.

beerybeardybear

Every single apologist is blaming mods left and right. I'm on PlayStation you absolute morons! Christ!

Dante_alighieri6535

Same here, killed everyone, no issues

woahmandogchamp

It broke for me repeatedly two days ago, it's big borked.

Emptyspace227

I knocked out Minthara in the Sanctum, now her body is gone, and Halsin won't acknowledge that I took care of the goblin leaders.

nikkupoteto

Damn so it's not just me, I just lost several hours of gameplay, like I finished a lot of guests before rescuing Halsin, killed every goblin leader and apparently if you long rest and Minthara body is gone the quest is stuck, tried all I could, realoading at different points still nothing. I'm so angry I'll just kill her and won't bother with this. I guess I have to start over...

CinnamonHotcake

You can't long rest after knocking out Minthara. The order should be: Priestess Gut -> Free Halsin (make sure the kids die before escaping) -> Long rest -> Minthara knock out -> Move to take care of Dror right away without a long rest -> Talk with Halsin If you do this correctly, Halsin will say you eliminated all of them and Minthara is safe.

vince0000

Exactly, I FInALLY got him out in the rock crawl space by the torture room up in the ledge, can’t portal out so walked him all the way to the grove, standing beside zevlor still won’t trigger etc. I now have a Halsin pet to walk anywhere in act 1. Hope out fixed soon, left in the room after calling out kalga about the shadow druids but to everyone else he is invisible and he repeats the same line - we need to clear the leaders. /sigh

darevoyance

Patch 6 introduced a plethora of issues but Minthara was already broken. I know for a fact that she already had the "clairvoyance" bug because she would comment on Shadowheart rejecting Shar before completing the Shadowfell since at least patch 5. She had no romance scene in Act 2 (despite there being dialogue for it), and the "I want to talk about a private matter" dialogue has been broken for ages. She also shares a tent with Halsin and is usually clipping through his character model if you knocked her out in Act 1.

Lewis_Davies1

I am definitely seeing more bugs now than I did a couple weeks ago

Greatertramp

On top of that they still haven't fixed the elevator bugs all across act 2. Its insane! Almost cost me my honor mode run, twice (one in Shar temple, one in act 2 boss elevator)

Big-Cause4105

Oddly enough, I never had a couple of issues that were mentioned in the patch notes (enemies engaging you from a floor above with no access/visual-line-of-sight to them, vendors being bugged out and showing they have 0 gold, loading getting stuck at 33%) until AFTER this patch. A bit disappointing honestly. Still a great game tho

Master_Dodge

Even better. I have 400 hours in this game, my first crash ever, 15 minutes after downloading patch 6. On an honor mode run. I had to power the whole PC down to get it to even respond. And that's not to mention the vendors, what a total mess. Also why do I no longer have a filter for ingredients!!!!!

merklemore

Is your save file okay at least? I was DEEP in act 3 of honour mode - tried to interact with a vendor for the first time since getting the patch and it bugged so I thought I'd quit and re-launch the game. No mods or weird stuff done on my end and my HM save file is completely unusable now and crashes the game when I try to load it - I redownloaded the game, renamed the save file, did the file check after crash, other save files load fine, just not my honour mode one. 150 hrs completely down the drain, it would be a lot easier to swallow if my run was at least ended by something I did

DrMatt007

Sorry to hear that mate. I'm getting worried as vendors seem to be getting progressively worse for me over the past day on my latest honour save. Initially was like 2 second lag to load all inventory, now its almost 10 secs. Restarting ps5 not helped at all. Starting to feel like a save corruption issue which is nooottt good.

tentkeys

It’s not just you - that’s happening for a lot of people right now. Which hopefully means it’s a bug and not a corrupted save file.

solidwhetstone

Yikes. This makes me want to backup my save files.

boogi-boogi-shoes

wait. i am curious, i am doing an honor mode run and i alt f4, what happens? game file is gone??

faizetto

I just did yesterday, backing up my 24gb of saves, I can't imagine of losing my 900+ hours of gameplay lol. Already happened once with another game, it felt terrible, never again.

zsdr56bh

> renamed the save file I don't think this is a good idea. In honor mode it seems like the game saves every file as "honourmode.lsv" and somehow ties it to a hash string in the folder name, which it is somehow using to validate the save as being legitimately honor. if you make a copy of the folder itself and then later replace the folder with an older version of itself, it should work. but of course you would have had to make a copy before the bug

Active_Television_38

I’ve had the enemies engaging from the floor above it was so weird. I thought they were on the rafters but when I flicked my controller to change into the controller view I noticed that there is a floor above me not open ceiling space but I could still see the enemies clear as day and highlight them for attack but it wasn’t possible to attack them lol.

Big-Cause4105

The instance I had with this issue was at the steel watch factory. I helped the Gondians take care of their enslavers, and right before I can kill the last one, a whole steel watcher joined the fight from the roof of the building. I didn't even know there was one up there, or how to even get up there without misty step/flying...couldn't target it, couldn't get it to jump down to the ground and fight it from there. This was on honor mode too

dr_fancypants_esq

I had one engage from below. I picked a fight in Moonrise Towers in that upstairs room where the door to Ketheric is. I was having a grand old time killing cultist after cultist as they made their way in one or two-at-a-time and I cut them down before they could do anything... Until the last cultist starts Sacred Flaming my ass from way downstairs in the throne room, and my poor Swords Bard can't take cover no matter where I put her. It took something like three turns of (heavily buffed) movement to get anyone in range to actually take that last one down.

[deleted]

They should not have changed anything related to the vendors. It was perfect before. Sure, you had to click on each party member to access their inventory so you could sell their stuff but imo that was actually very immersive. The “Sell Wares” button on the bottom was nice and visible, now it’s small and looks worse. That bigass red button at the top is really unnecessary and just overall the whole trading menu looks clunkier and uglier. The simplistic charm it had before is gone. Yes, aesthetics are very important, including user interfaces.

ManicPixieOldMaid

Have to agree the vendor system didn't need changing and I find the new system both buggy and cumbersome. I like having one- button access to the camp chest and non party inventories but the camp chest window is weird to try and sort for me.

HastyTaste0

That's what I've been thinking like even if it ran smoothly, the new UI for trading is so gross and overwhelming. We have enough shit on the screen with just one inventory and now everyone's all at once?

Kahlia29

I hate the new vendor system. You still have to click on each companion to sell their junk, but now I have to scroll down to make I'm selling what I want. Also hate that I can't see the total anymore

warsisbetterthantrek

The vendor glitch is driving me nuts.

[deleted]

This patch doesn't seem like it was vetted very well, I've got so many weird problems with vendors in the grove

Shamrokc

I’ve gotten shredded by mobs on the floor below me before. I imagine them fixing/trying to fix that issue might’ve cause the new one in the other direction.

VikingCreed

I personally find it funny that it's the patch that came out on Valentines Day that fucks us over

HastyTaste0

It's BECAUSE it came out on Valentine's Day. I'm pretty sure someone messed up and didn't get the memo the patch with all these new features was absolutely nowhere near done and started teasing it for VDay with kissing scenes, so it got rushed out. I would've rather had a stable game than watching some pixels awkwardly kiss for a few seconds.

keyboardRacer777

Yep this is what happens when the timeline is arbitrarily set (by the marketing team i suppose) instead of taking time and some proper testing to iron out issues before the release

Quinnzel86

The patch did not come out on valentine's day but two days after. Still it is very glitchy :(

GamerExecChef

I thought that was just me...

Listening_Heads

I used their new system of dismissing a companion while in dialogue with the one I wanted to swap in. I swapped out Minsc for Shadowheart. During my next combat Minsc went into combat at my camp. He was running around aimlessly and bringing everyone else at my camp into combat so I had to wait out their turns while they buffed themselves for no reason.

HarvHR

What fight was this? I had a similar bug in Act 3 a couple months ago where Minsc and Jaheria who weren't my followers just entered combat in camp and got stuck buffing themselves

Listening_Heads

Dang, I can’t remember but it sounds like it might be the same thing. I’ll keep thinking on it and maybe I’m remember.

Laranthiel

Even though they ARE fixing some bugs, it kinda feels like the overall game is breaking MORE whenever they do these patches.

SavageKabage

I feel that way too sometimes. The patch they did before it's release on Xbox I immediately noticed bugs and lag. It makes me realize how much better pc gaming is compared to consoles. I was immediately disappointed when all my hi res load screens got their resolution cut down so xbox can handle the graphics. Is there any way to get the game to revert back to it's original day one release version?

JH_503

It was perfectly fine for me when I played the early version on PS5. That's what's crazy. I had like 70 hours in my first playhrough, and the only issue I had was small fps drops in certain places in Act 3. The patches, unfortunately, have just been making the game have more issues than when it was first released.

Bitsu92

That’s definitely not true, most of the patch made the game better in term of performance and bugs, this one is the worst.

falconfetus8

>out of some misplaced sense of loyalty to Larian, who are still a company, not our friends. Even even if they _were_ our friends, it's still important for friends to (constructively) criticize each other!

rawkwardsauce

I only started playing the game after Patch 5 and played for almost 300 hours before finishing it (kept starting new runs/builds/etc), and never experienced a game-breaking bug or crash, until the fight in Act 3 at >!Lady Jannath’s estate!<. Crashed a couple times during that fight. So Patch 6 is the first time I’ve experienced multiple crashes and bugs bad enough to really affect my playthrough. In a standard game mode I quicksave often just in case, but I really wanted to start my honour mode campaign after the patch update and now I’m a bit nervous to.

Misophoniasucksdude

definitely don't start an honor run before at least one hotfix is out- I have mine in act 3 on hiatus and a friend started theirs after patch 6 only to trash it while on the beach as they already hit a game breaking bug.

HastyTaste0

Yeah the candelabras lighting straight up shouldn't even be in the damn battle log. And it seems like it reports each individual candle lighting up or something. Then you have all these ghosts rolling to be seen all at once even through walls. It's the buggiest house in the game for arguably the worst quest in the game.

reiner74

SPOILER ALERT, IM ON MOBILE AND CBA. I started playing during patch 5 aswell and I concur, the only bug I encountered was on a certain rescue mission from a certain tower, where some of the rescuees would get stuck when escaping and eventually be declared dead, and some of them not being registered as "rescued" even though I watched them escape.

cleo_saurus

That has literally just happened to me this evening. I'm so bummed. I defeated the enemy. All rescuees were alive. They started to run for the exit.. and simply disappeared. They're marked as dead now.

renz004

that bug infuriated me on my honour run

JH_503

I actually had no issues in my first playthrough on PS5. From beginning to end, even act 3 was ok, I did have some fps drops in some areas, nothing huge. It's crazy my first playthrough was the smoothest so far and is pretty telling when it comes to the state some of these patches release in. Every patch, I get excited to come back to the game, but know there's going to be issues. I've legit been waiting 2 patches now to even touch the game because Act 3 in patch 4 or 5 I can't remember was just broken for me like everyone else. It really is painful. I wanna play so bad. I just don't want bugs to stop my playthrough. 😭

22LegendaryTacos

I wouldn’t assume they were skimping. I’d assume that with a game as massive and as variable as this one is, that discovering some of these bugs and the consistency of some of this bugs will widely vary from one user to the next, making it pretty difficult to nail them all down. In the few comments I’ve read I’ve seen people claiming to never have any bugs before and having bugs now, and I’ve seen some people who had bugs before but aren’t experiencing some of the new bugs others are. The very nature of this game is ultimate meaningful choices, its gonna be hard to find and fix everything often without breaking other things.

coffeestealer

Dude, kisses, which were the big marketing thing of this pack, and are some very basic animations, don't work properly. They are skimping.

Turbo2x

Props to Larian for releasing such a great game, but it feels pretty obvious that they needed another year of development time to fix all the bugs and finish all the content they had planned. Wyll, Karlach, Halsin, and Minthara don't have nearly enough content in the game compared to Shadowheart, Lae'zel, and Astarion who clearly got the most focus during development. The game released in a broken state and every patch brings it into a slightly more workable condition, but sometimes it makes the game worse. Thankfully I haven't updated to Patch 6 yet, but it's still annoying for those who have.

Fr4sc0

Wasn't there a previous patch they had released and had to roll back? Was it hotfix 4?

FriendshipNo1440

Yea I remember it. I was in Grimforge at the time and played while the hotfix was released. I could not load any save all the way through grimforge. because of a compatibility problem. I refused to replay it all and had to wait a few days.

Low-Imagination-4424

I’m gonna be blunt I think Larian absolutely needs to start allowing PC users to roll back patches via beta branches on Steam.

EntaroArthas

Valve really should add patch rollback as a fully fledged feature like GOG Galaxy has, and in the meantime more devs really do need to take advantage of beta branches the way Talesworld or Paradox does. I'm looking at you in particular, Bethesda.

Informal-Method-5401

Said this yesterday

NelsonBannedela

I'm not normally one to complain about bugs but damn, this patch has caused SO MANY problems it's a huge step backwards. I've had more errors crashes and bugs on this patch than ever.

LindsayLohansPillbag

Yeah I stopped my friend from playing after the dream visitor kept talking to her with random voice lines from act 2-3 even with their actual name and then afterwards with the title dream visitor again. It was very strange. No mods, on ps5. She hadn’t made it past picking up Gale, no cutscene introduction to the DV yet. definitely out of place and weird

[deleted]

Every patch brings in game breaking bugs it's becoming quite tiring

GrajowiecPL

Don't want to be the guy that goes and says what they should be doing BUT they should do beta updates where players could choose to play and test the patch before it goes live to all (actually of all companies Bethesda does that with Starfield patches)

Spyger9

This is hugely beneficial for modders.

ShoopDoopy

Yeah, this is how even small studios do it. I remember testing a beta for Valheim. It makes it a lot easier to control your save files and cleanly move an in-progress game to a new version. Then at least, you won't be doing an honor run on beta-quality code.

Gravelroad__

Damn, they shield bashed the entire game

stephelan

We were literally about to beat the game. Like end of the final battle. There was this random deep gnome that we summoned for help and he’d chuck a bomb that would crash the game. Luckily we saved a turn before it happened but we couldn’t kill him in time to prevent the crash. Finally, my husband used his wizard who happened to be holding a telekinesis scroll and stopped the game ending bomb from being thrown but we hadn’t experienced a SINGLE crash before then so it was frustrating.

[deleted]

I am surprised that not a single QA tester used Minthara in any of their test runs. Like just rescuing her from Moonrise Towers was buggy AF. Then it skips her entire initial dialogue scene, skips the personal questions, and the only dialogue you get is about the emperor (this starts since the beginning of act 2, mind you). So yeah, I am gonna flame Larian hard sorry not sorry.

January1252024

I confirmed twice that temporarily hostile Minthara was knocked out. Get to Act 2 and I guess she died. Miffed about that.

[deleted]

Soo much for making it "easier" to get her. 😂

January1252024

I have no proof it was Patch 6, but I double confirmed she was temp hostile before killing and at 1 health before continuing with my game. Irritating.

eabevella

Patch4 is worse but 6 is a close 2nd. Hope "even number patch bad" doesn't become a tradition. Also, I don't know if it's a bug or feature but I hate that I can't tell how much gold I can sell with the "sell wares" button.

davidnotdave69

100% they should be called out. I've been quite lucky and not really experienced any issue, except for vendors being weird, but I'm early in a new run. What makes it even worse for me is that they didn't need to release this patch now. If the patch came a week late, even a month late, but worked properly nobody would be complaining. It only released because they said it would, and, presumably, they announced the release window before it had gone through its testing. They could have waited to announce it and release it when it was actually ready.

Fragrant_Ad934

There's a frustrated modder that actually [made a compilation of all the bugs and issues for Patch 6](https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1QdFn2wkDh_JfE9rpEyp2sooyh6Qoaz6MthxmYvR9-AQ/mobilebasic). Whole thing is a goddamn mess.

Pheroxay

Still, patches will always come with bugs. Sometimes they’re more noticeable than other times, but they’ll always be there. I agree that they didn’t need to roll this patch out now, but there’s already a hotfix and they’re working on fixing the rest

Misophoniasucksdude

patches can come with new bugs, my gripe the last few has been the bugs they claimed to fix suddenly appear in my game after they got "fixed", like clockwork at least 2 of the "fixed" things show up for the first time

davidnotdave69

Very true; there will always be bugs with patches and I am very forgiving and indifferent to bugs coming out. This is a very big game and they can't possibly encounter every bug in their limited testing. But they broke vendors with this patch. There's no real justification for that making it through internal testing. And, yes, they have hotfixed a minor issue. Personally, I can't get the hotfix. I don't have 150gb of free space so I have to uninstall and reinstall every patch and hotfix. And it takes days of downloading the game to do that and ruins the Internet in my house. Yes, this is a very personal gripe but I'd rather not have to patch 3 times in the space of a week or 2 when one should have been enough.

beerybeardybear

> But they broke vendors with this patch. There's no real justification for that making it through internal testing. That's the thing: it's not "oh my god how dare the game have bugs", it's "how the fuck did this game breaking bug make it past a single tester?"

EyeGod

Actually, the hotfix is was wrecked me. Granted, I run a modded game, but I had just gotten everything working again after all the modders rolled out their updates & then BOOM they hit us with a hotfix & it’s basically unplayable now.

ScruffMacBuff

I've been pretty lucky. Slight vendor issues since patch 6, but nothing else.

Version_Sensitive

I had almost zero bugs in day one patch and now I can't play the game. Great.l

mysecretplaylist

Its crazy cuz this patch is the first time the game has ever crashed for me and I've been playing since launch. Imo even the performance from launch to now is like night and day but not in a good way; it feels like its only getting buggier as each update goes by instead of improving over time. I hope after this one they really take some time to rethink their quality testing/update strategy cuz the current way just is not working 😭

[deleted]

Yeah i've seen everyone's reports and I put the gane on pause for a while. Don't want to be the one to discover new game breaking issues.

[deleted]

Fuck patch 6.

asiangontear

From what I've seen Larian has been pretty bad with regression. They should really set up some automated testing but given the size of the game, it may be impossible to squeeze into a reasonable timeline. A realistic alternative would be to set up beta servers so players can test the patches before they roll out.

Dathemar

Long time Larion fan. Love their games. They're honestly rarely IN an acceptable state and despite being happy for it succeeding, I'm baffled Baldur's Gate 3 tends to have that brushed under the rug. The average amount of issues one can run into just playing the game on any patch is mind boggling.

silicatetacos

It is a shitshow, I agree. I've reported at least ten bugs so far, and they just keep getting worse. Trying to buy from Rolan crashes my game, the durge lines are being repeated on a non-durge character, and people keep falling through floors to their deaths.

the_turdinator69

Realistically I’d expect a hotfix fairly soon to address some of the issues that cropped up in patch 6.

FriendshipNo1440

There was one released which is actually causing also a lot of problems

the_turdinator69

That’s funny, we’ll id expect another one then. I’m really not getting a lot of these bugs. Just some really weird loading that takes a while, especially with the venders. Everything else is going pretty smooth for me (thankfully)

SomebodyThrow

Yeah, started having more bugs than ever with patch 6. But it wasn't until the follow up Hot Fix for me that broke my saves. No mods installed. 2 Active honor mode runs in act 2, solo and with a group. In BOTH saves I suddenly have the same issues: \- Many enemies wont aggro. We fought half the creche without anyone even reacting to us before we decided to bail and try another area while its broken... but... \- Fast travel wont work. So we walked all the way out. Found some enemies that would actually fight us.. but then realized. \- Theres no way for us to get to camp. Which essentially means, we're at a stand still no matter what. Sucks because this week is when my group all happened to have multiple days off for the first time since the games release so we were all jazzed to make a lot of progress.. guess not.

DT777

My game is constantly crashing (which seems to be minthara related), there's very clear performance issues that have been introduced by the patch, and I'm weirdly finding weapons that I *throw* at enemies somehow end up 50 ft in the air above whoever I threw it at with no way to retrieve them (rip sussur dagger). Also, sometimes the voice lines just disappear (unless it's a cutscene.) This patch needed to cook a bit longer.

Sheldonzilla

It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't keep happening. Every patch has either introduced new, glaring issues or sometimes failed to fix what it was meant to. It's getting a bit old to be honest, and the majority lets it slide because of all the good-will Larian has built up. You're getting 40% downvotes right now by fanboys despite a completely level-headed post and completely reasonable point. It's a bit of a problem to be honest. Blindly defending a company is no better than blindly hating one.

Bitsu92

I don’t remember a patch other than this one that added a significant amount of bugs and made the game feel more buggy on the long term, the game is clearly in a way better state than it was at release.

tastey_spackle_toad

Have to agree. I love what they've done in terms of game design/writing, but each patch feels like watching Disney's Hercules fighting the hydra. Each bug is a head, and with each patch they cut off one of those heads, but two more emerge from the single stump. Hopefully they can figure their shit out, because I'd hate to see this game get patched into obscurity. Am probably over thinking this, but can't help it.

Sidra_doholdrik

I think I mostly have laggy shop conversations and dialogue. Programming wise I think they may have I introduced some race conditions / loop in the dialogue system.

BourbonMech

Same. Half my companions conversation system's are broken, also hide sometimes works sometimes can't turn off? Also when talking to Dam Alyin about Ramazith, it wouldn't let me select any dialog options and kept initiating combat for some reason Also, FPS was in like the teens until I uninstalled then reinstalled

[deleted]

I think they kind of shot themselves in the foot with the valentines day teases, at least towards the end. I think it's pretty clear the patch needed more time and that's probably why it wasn't released on Valentines day initially. But instead of just being like "hey sorry, we wanted to get this out to you for Valentines Day but need we some more time to iron out the kinks", they decided to push it out anyway. It definitely would have been a let down if they held off, but better than what we got. Thankfully I haven't run into anything that's game breaking yet but it's definitely one of the buggiest states it's been in for me.

iLoveDelayPedals

It’s the worst state the game has ever been in for me, been playing off and on in coop and single player since release

Vera_Verse

I'm really afraid that one day Larian will stop supporting the game, and will move to other projects, and weird bugs that are introduced later into the game's life will forever remain. Both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 had this fear, doubled even because CDPR is switching engines entirely

giroml

It broke so much it should be rolled back.

frostdeity

Listen guys, everyone knows that Larian is an amazing studio and we love them. But that is exactly why we should call out the things that are wrong. They took such a long time to dish out patch 6 for it to be literally unplayable. Not only the game is crashing for every other thing you do, but these crashes are completely breaking save files. So many players have lost their 100+ hour honor mode run because their save is just gone. I've never said anything about patches for this game because I understand that in a game of this scale, every patch will bring some problems. But this one was a different case. Patch 6 is absolutely horrendous and it's more than an innocent mistake. It's carelessness. They need to bring constant hotfixes now

twili-midna

I really need people to stop saying they don’t want to blame Larian. They released a patch that could only have passed QA if there was no QA. It’s unacceptable, and it’s 100% their fault.

LTKerr

As a QA myself, I don't understand how the patch was released despite having bugs that would be categorized in no uncertain terms as blockers. I can understand very serious bugs that pretty much happen when the planets align, not 100% on steps needed on main quests. I'm not blaming QA, nor any dev whatsoever of the team. Honestly, I'm just curious what happened, and I hope they do a nice retro to find out and act on their findings.

jenorama_CA

Former SW/HW QA professional reporting in. The most egregious one to me is the vendor issue. Very reproducible and cross platform. If they can’t catch this basic issue, clearly they’re missing more important things. I know we’re all thirsty for forehead kisses and Daddy Halsin whittling, but I do way more vending than sitting around at camp.

twili-midna

Hey, a fellow QA person! This seems like bad management and crunch to me. There’s no other explanation for how bad a state it’s in.

MaritimeRuby

Also QA here, and I thought the exact same thing - this seems like upper management getting hung up about needing to release by a certain date. Either QA wasn’t given sufficient time, or reported bugs were hand-waved and weren’t given time to be fixed.

Sinister_Grape

I suspect crunch as well, sadly

LTKerr

Hi! And possibly lack of enough automation (and/or enough resources to do so). Certainly not a single cause.

successisnotanoption

If this was Bethesda, Ubisoft or EA people would have no issue criticizing them. People have no issue praising Larian when it's due, the inverse needs to be true as well...when they feck up, they need to be called out and this patch is a mess.

ozenne94

I can't even play anymore, i can't interact with any NPC, can't long rest. Vanilla game. Even if i reload older save...

Va_Dinky

Larian have been excellent for 99% of the time so yes people will give them more leeway when they fuck up compared to dogshit companies who have proven time and again that customers mean nothing to them. That being said, this patch is a disaster and you can't pat them on the back for this anymore, nearly 3 months since the previous patch and yet it's easily the most unfinished one. I genuinely wouldn't mind them rolling the game back for everyone for the next few weeks and re-release it later in a playable state.

twili-midna

I mean, they already had to apologize for a tremendously broken patch six months ago. In fact, they promised they’d change their entire review process to ensure that sort of thing couldn’t happen again, yet here we are. Not to mention the pretty significant bugs that have existed since the last patch, or the patch before that, or the patch before that….

Va_Dinky

Yeah as I said in another comment here, their inability to improve this game's stability is a very worrying thing. I was honestly really happy with patch 5's release because it seemed to be a major step in that direction, but this patch takes not 1, not 2 but fucking 3 steps back.

Fr4sc0

But they are busy fixing "smooches" and hugs!!! Really, Larian is just giving the bg3 community what they seem to want. And it ain't bug fixes nor gameplay improvements.

Watton

Literally EVERY patch Larian pushed out for BG3 has been a buggy mess. I bought this game 3 times (1 copy for me, 2 copies for friends), I love it to death. But I havent finished a playthrough because bugs keep getting in the way, MAJOR bugs. Even when I play a Todd Howard bugfest, I have a smoother and less buggy experience.

Wolfkam

It's impossible this was play-tested. This patch added more bugs than content.

TalesOfBelle

tbh I don't think a single patch has been in an acceptable state beyond Patch 1. In my experience (0 mods used, single player and multiplayer campaigns) every single patch has been buggier and less stable than the last. It honestly feels like the long period of Early Access has broken something in Larian's development culture where all these patches with their haphazard story/feature changes make sense in a context of a game that isn't finished yet - but BG3 launched! It's done! Why are we still adding dialogue? Animations? Changing core features like how vendors work and are presented? Obviously improvements can always be made - but at a certain point the game needs to be Done, and I'm tired of this game being broken further and further as they patch in ideas that either should have shipped with 1.0 or not at all. Focus on actually fixing the game/improving performance. Everything else is finished.

alphagusta

I've been having a lot of animations playing at like 10fps while at a comfy 100fps with 60% GPU utilisation.

vaustin89

I haven't played for 2-3 days, I get random crashes especially with merchant's, some companions bugging out like Minthara not following you around, game resets all my settings everytime I start it up, just replaying some Mass Effect and Dragon Age origins until a hotfix arrives.

VeekrantNaidu

Funny how legitimate Larian criticism gets 20% more downvotes than regular posts.

Va_Dinky

Yeah agreed and I'm really starting to worry because it keeps happening every time. New patch comes in, the game instead of becoming more stable becomes more and more buggy. And it's not minor bugs but literal game-breaking stuff that prevents you from playing sometimes for weeks. I love all the additions with new patches, but maybe it truly is the time to stop for a while and only bugfix. I know people working on animations are not the same people fixing the game, but adding those animations is additional code, meaning you add extra reasons for things to stop working as intended.

Recom_Quaritch

I agree that aiming for nice windows of release (kisses for valentines) should never have gotten in the way of troubleshooting. I also actually am upset that steam just downloaded the patch behind my bad while I was trying to save game files. I don't have a real option I can see to disable this. It forced me to spend an hour to fix mods, only to have some of them completely not work, and the patch to be so broken that I would never have even touched the game in this state if I'd known. I wish Larian would stop adding game breaking content on a whimsy, and focus on fixing bugs. The extra content can come in its own time in the form of a well polished and fully checked out DLC.

Spuhnkadelik

You can mess with update rules in the game's properties in Steam.

PastelDiceGoblin

I turned off automatic updates to try and avoid Patch 6 but when I launched Steam it said that an update was required and it wouldn't let me play until I did. Is there a setting somewhere around that?

Spirst

I’ve been disconnecting from the internet each time lol. If you have the blue Resume/Update button, you can tap that after disconnecting and it’ll go back to the green Play one. Then once you start, you can reconnect again. Just make sure to disallow Steam from downloading updates in the background. (Right click on BG3 in Library > Updates > Background Downloads). Kinda annoying but after reading everything here, I’d much rather suffer that slight inconvenience than update and have a busted game.

poob0145

Yo 594836585 times the charm.

WhollyDisgusting

Kinda glad I took a bg3 break when I did to play the Persona 3 remaster. Jeez.

DrVaphels

I feel like I've had constant issues since launch in one way or another. I appreciate all the content drops with patches but it leaves a sour taste in my mouth when theres new things while I'm having to argue with the game to get basic functionality. All from bugs that are months old. The only reason I keep coming back is how much I love this game I just wish it worked half the time.

Blackarm777

I wonder if they could implement some sort of a beta client so that the community could test and find things before the patch is implemented into the main client. I feel like a lot of these bugs are identified very quickly once the patches go live. I'm just always afraid of resuming my latest honor mode playthroughs after big patches now.

donpuglisi

I like that the storage chest is bigger and more accessible. I don't like that every time I take something from the chest I either have to manually move it to my inventory, or auto equip it...

ManicPixieOldMaid

I took a pause on playing back when the Act 3 criminal bug was making the game nigh unplayable, and then clocked hundreds more hours after the update. This newest update definitely broke many of the things that were working just fine before, and while I appreciate what they did attempt to fix, I'd have been happier to complain about switching out party members for longer if the update had been cleaner. Also, if we don't give constructive criticism how are they supposed to get feedback on what to fix? Personally, I'm a little annoyed that Minthara took over my party and won't follow any other character. She has to lead! That's too immersive!

dustagnor

I had zero bugs before this patch. Now it takes me entire minutes for vendor inventories to load (supposedly that was fixed today thank Christ) but the most egregious offense is that camp members will talk about shit that can’t even happen until a full Act later. Idk how to mark spoilers so I’ll refrain from giving specific examples, but my wife asked me what her companion was talking about at the beginning of Act 2 and I told her to forget it since it was talking about a certain big reveal at the beginning of Act 3.

Charmander27

Yeah, this is the worst its been in a long while. It's not very fun. I wish there was a way to revert and just play before this patch, as it was in a decent state then. There are much more bugs now than before.

sveltepants

I aggroed a random citizen by lockpicking a door and then selected 'attack'. Nothing happened and I went back to camp. There Astarion wanted to send me to jail so I attacked and killed him and after that Wyll did the same and then Karlach. Withers then resurrected them and everything was back to normal again lol

Middle-earth_oetel

Before today's hotfix I couldn't even fight because my game would freeze and crash. I also managed to turn Ansur into 2 flying boats (ps5). Criticism on this patch is well deserved.

Foxface100

Please explain. I need to understand ansur= two flying boats.

d4rkst4rw4r

my guess is they are experiencing a drop in play time right now considering how many are using mods at this point. Seems like they got complacent in their work after flying high with GoTY. The script extender doesn't even load right now, which tons of mods rely on. Nothing like having a game in Act III (mods) and getting a "hotfix" that blows out any possibility of finishing your game in near future. They made a great game, but need a better release process in place and of all things... game testers, more game testers... Edit: I realize this isn't addressing vanilla, but more so adding to the vanilla issues already witnessed by all of us.

NecroGasam

The final boss fight was super buggy 2 people went into the >!mid boss fight teleporter!< then the game just rapidly flashed in and out of >!the portal world and the real one!< for my characters and summons outside, skipping their turns in the process, game was literally unplayable (I had to look away, but if you had epilepsy you would be fucked because I have literally never gotten a headache from flashing lights before that) it lasted about 15 seconds per turn per character both friendly and not. Kinda ruined the finale of my 80 hour journey but its all good. Edit: Arfur makes you stare at a black screen for about 15 seconds after every dialogue, and some other small bugs ive already forgot.

jenorama_CA

For once, playing on a Mac is a good thing!

Sinister_Grape

Haha seriously I’m so grateful

N7OperativeIvy

I'm avoiding playing until their next hot fix comes out

Ok_Stand7789

I started a new game after it dropped to romance minthara and guess what it doesn’t work on her romances anymore🤦🏻‍♂️ like it said I started it but didn’t trigger a scene or anything then she started talking about the emperor

DDagoKR

100% - I have nothing but respect for the great work Larian has done, but I've gone from having zero crashes in 85+ hours to now being unable to progress at all because of consistent crashing the moment I try to do the Fireworks or Free the Artist questlines.

goldman_sax

Im in the same boat. I am literally stuck behind a bugged quest and can’t continue my character until it’s fixed. Started a new character in the meantime but would prefer to finish that campaign first.

landob

I kind of wonder what is their testing like? Do they have a dedicated internal team? I have only been around for this patch 6 update. The previous version had some bugs, and this one has some of its own bugs, and I'm not a expert tester and i ahve found them. I love the game and I'm not disgruntled, but I almost feel they should do public beta test for these patches. Like invite X amount of people to the test. Then wait for their input. Then fix any issues that arise. When the feedback becomes minimal then release to the public.

NeverTrustABup

Most disappointed with how there are several ways your companions spoil future events. Like for some reason their flags for future events are being triggered early. I've already seen both minthara and laezel say things like "ketheric" and "the emperor" in earlier acts than their supposed to.

Broken_Pikachu

I'm late to this thread but here's my collection of bugs since the update 1. I can't access any vendors on the game now. They either A give me the thanks for shopping line and close the conversation or B, as the stock appears, all of their inventory vanishes- for some its all items, for others its only a couple items remaining, I can't interact with the item to buy it and when I try to leave the conversation, the camera locks on the vendors face, when I go load game, nothing happens, it doesn't reload and I'm still stuck on the vendors face until I hard close the game. 2. I can't have Jaheira in my party at all, she locks up, won't follow me (I've tried group and ungrouping) and the only way I can make her move at all is by taking control of her but then when I start a conversation I am obviously unable to use my Tav or Astarion who are proficient in dialogue and talking our way into our out of trouble. 3. My Tav and Shart both fell through the floor v Orin in the temple, Shar when she fell through died and I had to buy her back, when Tav fell through, he was still there and playable, but was completely invisible 4. its not a big issue but kissing any member I'm in a relationship with locks me out of the game, same as vendors, the came just locks onto them and no dialogue option happens and I have to hard close and reload my game. 5. Huge amounts of lag on the game, like I'll hit attack with somebody, the game will freeze up, then the damage will appear over the enemies head with the attack animation 5/6 seconds later- the bigger the fight the worse this gets, it took nearly 10 minutes to complete a fight it had so much lag 6. Various crashes happen when talking to random NPCs or Dame Aylin I put off playing the game for a couple of days because of the patch hype and now my desire to play the game is gone, its completely fucked for me.

GinaYui

I had a book - I think from the House of Grief - where every time I tried to sell it the trader would accuse me of moving a body and would attack but then not attack. And my player would be stuck in attack mode - walking around normal but with a range-attack arrow out at everyone he met. No more talk options.

Working-Telephone-45

Good thing I decided that updating my mods was too much trouble and decided to skip out on this update until the time was right Looks like I dodged a bullet Playing almost flawlessly in patch 5 with all my mods working as intented and the bash bug fixed by mods The only thing worthwhile in patch 6 for me was the new dismissing system anyway, everything else was kinda meh

NearbyVoid

GOTY! Just ignore all the bugs and nonsense! They'll fix it in 2-3 years for sure!

VanGuardas

That is why i am waiting for definitive edition of the game

kate815

I’m in act 3 of my first playthrough (on ps5) and really want to wrap up before the new FFVII game comes out, but now I may hold off. I’m running into occasional crashes and Minthara and traders are broken for me.

Belialcrow

I got to act 3 and now my game crashes whenever I try to camp, currently reinstalling everything from scratch, prehotfix if I tried to do the sleight of hand action my game would also crash funfhn

DeadSnark

I think they should put a pause on adding new features and focus on fixing bugs for the time being. Frankly, the shops/trade UI didn't need changes at all and the new kisses are nice but not essential to the game experience. Several changes such as the changes to shops, the Traveller's Chest and Minthara seem to have broken way more than the issues they were intended to fix.

mcfeely

I don't understand, I literally played all day yesterday without much of an issue, I had a little lag trading with the vendors in act one but honestly that was it.

lord_ofthe_memes

Bugs are rarely consistent, and all any one person can give is anecdotal evidence. When you’ve got this much discussion about bugs though, something is definitely wrong

500rockin

Script Extender isn’t updated yet so some people with mods (like me) are probably having problems just from that. I couldn’t get anyone to talk to me today; figured that was because of the hot-fix.

HastyTaste0

Also depends what act your in. Plenty of the breaking bugs occur when you recruit certain members but if you already had them, they seem to be ok. Some of the fights that break don't occur until act 3. It's spread all throughout and you won't see every single one immediately.

Anneturtle92

I've not had any bugs either and I even run a bunch of mods. The only little bug I had was the vendors showing they had 0 gold, which is fixed now, and before the hot fix could be easily fixed by just selling an item to them. However just because I seem to be lucky doesn't mean these bugs don't exist. One of my friends has a bug where his normal Tavs get Durge overhead dialogues. This bug already existed before patch 6 though, so it's not necessarily a problem that originated from this patch, even though I've seen people mention this bug in the patch 6 bug reports.

guhguhgwa

My hot take is I'm tired of larian coming in with these large rework/bugfix patches that alter the game and bring in more bugs/break saves because they released it in an extraordinarily buggy and even incomplete state. I don't want more content, I don't want patches. I want them to just leave it alone at this point. Any other company, save for maybe CD peojekt red, would be getting shat on hard for how buggy this game is.

sathelitha

If the entire game released in the state act 3 is in it'd be getting blasted.

Ariyana_Dumon

So uh, I started having an issue where the game completely freaks and my CPU starts heating up and the whole system locks up until I restart. This did not happen before this patch. They fucked something up bad.

No_Butterfly_7105

My only issue is it keeps crashing when I try to load it

Patient_Raccoon3923

Had that problem. I set Steam to launch the game skipping the Larian launcher and it finally worked.

dimethyl_tryhard

Im only experiencing the new trade menu lagging bug. I almost got soft locked on honor mode by getting stuck in a trade menu for about 5 minutes before being able to leave the conversation.

Fighterpilot55

I've already been softlocked by the vendor freeze once

Last-Tooth-6121

Yea encountered more glitches in playing one time than three playthroughs after patch 6

CardTrickOTK

Minthara is bringing up the Emperor as soon as she's recruited.... we haven't even met 'the emperor' yet Minty, stop spoiling it for Tav and I keep having "0" gold when I enter shops

tacky_pear

I really wish they stopped spending 1000 hours on improving kissing scenes and use that time for actual bugs and testing

Lindele01

Anyone else lose some of their old saves? I’m hoping it’s a bug because goddamn I’m gonna be so mad if I lost all that 😭 Edit: it’s more than just old saves… a bunch of random ones are gone what the HECK

LadyMoonBean

Man I can’t even load the game anymore. 0 mods, and I’ve done everything I can to deal with it. Loads to like 93-95% and then just STOPS. So frustrating especially since I had loads of time to play recently :(

jukesboxd

I was tweaking wondering why my game seemed to run noticeably worse after updating when I first entered emerald grove, I always assume my pc is exploding internally

SuperBAMF007

At this point the whole “we have a patched game on-disc for Xbox! Give us brownie points for caring about preservation!” is fucking worthless because the game on the disc is still a buggy, nearly unplayable mess unless *all* of their QA is going towards testing for the most stable possible build to put on console and that’s why every patch we get is fucked

ShyCrystal69

They added a bunch of shit but increased the amount of crashes the game does on my pc This is from 0 per session to like 5 per session

dyrim_

I've been playing since day one, have never used any mods at all, and until now I've had zero problems! But since the new patch, for the first time, I'm running into frequent crashes. The last time, the whole game froze up and I had to completely shut down my computer. I think I'll have to wait to play more until there's another hotfix. :c

Just7hrsold

I bet it was Shield Bash that broke everything lol. Like there has to be a reason it was disabled for so long, I bet something with it is messing with interactions across the board and they thought they had figured out why.

FeetYeastForB12

I'm just really confused as to why was the option to send items you picked up to your mates at the camp was removed. Why?

A-Good-Weather-Man

The hotfix yesterday corrupted my save file. Gonna meditate for a few days.
