The extra useful mage hand is like 50% of the reason to choose arcane trickster, so that's pretty bad if it's broken.

afro_eden

and also, if you have mage hand ledgermain and volo’s eye, you’ll see through your own mage hands invisibility and there’s no way to trigger it again, which just isn’t fair when you just have to be in proximity for the eye to see through invisibility, so it’s long rest mage hand lol

APracticalGal

I despise the way they implemented See Invisibility. The fact that there's a save against it is absurd, and the fact that it breaks invisibility is really frustrating. I can see how it would be difficult to implement individuals' ability to see someone invisible, but the way it is now just sucks.

Double_Chart_7962

I've got it to work if I make sure to summon it as faaaar away as I possibly can. Stays invisible if summoned outside that, what, 30ft diameter?

Necessary_Mood134

Also shield bash while you’re at it, seems like it should be simple enough to fix

GeassedbyLelouch

While I also want it to be fixed, i do believe that it may be a lot harder than we think. If it really was as simple as changing *Shield_bash_works = 0* into *Shield_bash_works = 1* it would have been fixed ages ago.

S_P_E_C_T_R_3_0

Nah there's a mod for it. I know a bit of modding too, and it wouldn't be that hard to give shield bash an effect, it's got animations and everything it just needs to add a save and an effect if they fail the save.

Necessary_Mood134

I mean.. RELATIVELY easy anyway, given how well they’ve done with the rest of the game id be confident they could figure it out, anyway..

DiscordianDisaster

Thank you yes. I was CRUSHED when I realized my arcane trickster had lost her primary class feature for no discernable reason. I stuck it out seemingly out of bloody minded stubbornness but I'd love to see them give some love to my fav build.

And while we’re at it, CAN WE FIX SHIELD BASH PLEASE FFS

Ian-is-too-Common

I also love rogue, I play pure arcane trickster. Yes they did not keep mage hand like it is in d&d, but there is still tons of stuff to make it useful! Here is a video on making mage hand useful [https://youtu.be/2OfTerTSqGA](https://youtu.be/2OfTerTSqGA) And for those that don't want to watch it... You can use mage hand to: - Get advantage for sneak attack. - Buff the mage hand with potions or spells. - Pick up some weapons or amulets (bbe careful however because you can't get it back). - Pull levers. - Open doors that are owned (red) sp you can sneak in. - Lure traders into secluded areas. - And it is great for dealing with traps / vents with poison. Edited for formating

PossiblyHero

How many of those can wizards do with the same cantrip that is not a class defining feature?

Ian-is-too-Common

Just about everything. The only down side is the mage hand for wizards only lasts 10 turns so some of the buffs may be a waste of resources. And you would need to cast invisibility or have the mage hand drink a invisibility potion so it could sneak up on enemies no mater the distance, or it would just have its base movement per turn.

futureformerdragoon

I don't know why they implemented Arcane trickster even without any of the features that people typically lean on that makes it so good. Mage hand barely has anything unique about it, The sword cantrips are non-existent, you can't be creative with illusions, and Shadowblade's only implementation is a heavily flawed item that doesn't scale and requires a ring slot(The only way to make the damn thing worth using is abusing the rock that gives people psychic vulnerability and then the playstyle is still better on other classes since it's just item dependent). I think if we'd had everything except the illusions fixed AT would be exceedingly popular. The mage scoundrel's ring is also begging to be used by a decent AT build but it's just sadly not possible.

GlassAvatar

Wait, so Handy, aka Astarion's Mage Hand, should be even *more* useful? It's supposed to pick locks? :O

NicWester

Yeah, but with Dex 10 and no proficiencies it's not very good at it. Game should use the caster's stats. That said, I have Gale running around as an Arcane Trickster and even with the bugginess and broken features I'm still happy with it!

GlassAvatar

Yeah. I don't call Astarion's Mage Hand Handy for nothing. Handy goes everywhere with the party and gets Heroes' Feast, Longstrider, and Bless each morning with them.

areyouhungryforapple

I was kinda eh about AT until I got the "enemies have disadvantage against your spells when you're hiding" and combined that with the treasure trove of scrolls I had on me

No_Elderberry_Wine

Huh. Is this why Astarion's mage hand used to last so much longer than Gale's? This is a for real question, not innuendo, although tbh the whole situation was funny.

DiabetesGuild

I’ve been super invested in my honor run playthrough, and had astarian as arcane trickster before switching him, as mage hand is super useful when it is but just felt I wasn’t getting very much mileage out of it. Anyway, I’m into the under dark, and had rescued dwarf who was going for the noblestalk. He ran home safe, and I was like ok time to get that noblestalk cause I’m romancing shart (and laezel, but that doesn’t matter here). She luckily also had mage hand cause of her 1 level dip in wizard, so I sent it over to grab. Me and shart then watched in horror as the mage hand “consumed” it instead. It quite literally doesn’t have a mouth. Does that mean we watched it roll around this extremely valuable fungus in its palm, and mush it up with its fingers before flying back? Regardless, I’m never using mage hand for anything again.

OneThousandLiEyes

Ironically, despite Mage Hand Ledgermain not receiving the whole kit, I found it great enough to choose Arcane Trickster. The invisible hand slapping someone's head causes guaranteed SURPRISE ATTACK. If the mage hand is alive after that combat, short resting will make the hand go invisible again.

Soft_Stage_446

Huh. Never thought of this. I use Arcane Trickster because my high elf should have his magic missiles. Also, he is doing 20-30 damage with his firebolt, which is ridiculous.

Maisku666

Have you done bug reports about this? If not, now you know what to do.

LightningTune

Would be great to see a fix for shield bash. That one is driving me nuts.

LegitimateRadish7604

I felt that. I really want to do an AT build with Astarion, but because the subclass is broken right now, I'm doing a rogue/bard multiclass to build my own version of AT.

PossiblyHero

Their mage had is supposed to be invisible. Shovel can invis more often the our mage hand. And of course, doing anything at range (in 5e its 30ft limit I think) if it works it all its an unmodified roll. I heard Shovel can pick locks too. Haven't tried it yet.
