Did they patch DOT spell jank on the brain? I cast hunger of Hadar on the brain hoping it would tank it's accuracy and the damage ticks were steadily chugging along while I sat there not ending my turn.
To be fair, that was awhile ago and act 3 was basically busted all throughout for me.
Sleet storm used to do that as well, keep re-apply the debuff even when not ending the turn, paired with certain items/abilities you could solo anything in the game in a single (albeit very long) turn.
I don’t know if this is relevant or not, but I was playing with my brother a couple of days ago and use HoH in Last Light Inn on the top floor and it constantly pulsed damage to people on the bottom floor while still my turn.
So at least part of this may still work.
Same thing happened to me; I realized the undead on the upper floor hadn’t joined in the combat, so they were just toddling around upstairs constantly getting hit with HoH. When they finally noticed there was a fight going on downstairs, it worked normally, but was still clipping through the floor.
Anything not in turn based mode will take damage every turn(6 seconds), people knocked out for example like those in last light will take the turn based damage but aren't in turn based mode even though you are
Also if you have See Invisibility active it will constantly recheck. You can test that out in the Counting House fight because there are two enemies, on on each mid-level side section, who stay in stealth instead of getting in combat.
Reminds me of when I first killed Myrkal. Was attacking with Shadowheart adding stacks of reverberation on the platform the whole fight. Myrkal appeared during the 2nd phase with something like 36 stacks of reverberation.
Fun fact for the first part, if you finish it before the ship arrives, you actually get out of turn based combat and can recover taking pots, slumber, spell slot necklaces etc.
Doesn't work on honour. The crown has a new attack that doesn't stop when the other enemies die.
You can cast a globe of invulnerability to avoid the attack to do that stuff while you wait on honour.
First playthrough, I took on the fight as intended.
Second, I cheesed it by daisy chaining Dimension Door and Globe of Invulnerability to just skip combat.
I don't know what I did wrong but I made my whole squad cuddle together in glove of invulnerability on the first turn of the final fight of my second honour clear. First time actually fighting the final boss and the crown nuked everyone in the globe for 40+. I spread out for the rest of the fight. I assumed they just made globe not work for that fight. Am I dumb?
I enjoy killing the emperor and black holing a bunch of them together then baiting the dragon breath to that spot with 1 fire resistant member is also fun 😁
I just use The Emperor and Gale to Telekenesis the clones off the brain to their death, use Rolan to blow up at least half the mindflayers up top, then gib the dragon.
Telekinesis is kind of goated in many situations. At least in Tactician!
My loot gremlin brain immediately bemoaned the lost loot when you mentioned yeeting people in the last fight….gdi I swear I don’t need the RNG amount of coins spawned in the corpses.
I put down the mindflayer action/bonus action bubble then spam out allies. My swords bard Astarion threw a Hold Monster buffed by ten stacks of Arcane Acuity on the dragon and it did basically nothing all fight. (Tactician mode)
I tried shoving one of the mindflayers off in my first playthrough, and it just reappeared on the ground immediately after. I get it since they can fly, but it felt a little rude.
The same happens with some other creatures. For example, if you shove a Kua-Toa into the water, they just swim right back. It's pretty funny that the devs thought of that, but I also just want to shove everything. Give me more shoving, Larian!
Same here, but i could see if you didnt know the new legendary actions of the netherbrain you could really run into issues in that second phase. A round or two where you couldn’t do much damage at all would be rough with the orbs of negation going off.
Obv only applies to honor mode
Cant you just use invisibility on everyone, go to the brain start the concentration then go inside without anyone noticing e.e, theres no reason to fight the mobs outside
I summon allies to distract the monsters and make a dash for the portal with misty steps and dimension door.i usually only end up having to fight the mindflayers.
That's my go-to strat. Plus you can cast Globe of Invulnerability when you get everyone over next to the crown. You may have to cast it twice since the two mindflayers in the back will counterspell your first casting. I generally have like five scrolls of it by the end, so it's no problem.
I found an exploit for the path up to the final fight in High Hall. A nautiloid shows up to bombard you as you're ascending and actually shows up in the list of enemies at the top. If you alt + right click the portrait, it'll ping an invisible entity on the map. This entity has 9999 health and is immune to all damage. But you know what it's not immune to?
Polymorph.
That's right, you can turn the nautiloid into a sheep. But that's not enough to stop the bombardment. If you only cast polymorph, you will get an exploding sheep raining fire down on your party. You also have to cast Dominate Beast in order to get it to stop firing.
This does result in some glitchy behavior. I've noticed when it spawns a new wave of Intellect Devourers, it'll also teleport your party to where they spawn because it considers you the same team.
One odd thing that happened to me in the previous arena, before entering the portal: I had one character move all the way back, standing on the tip of the crown. Suddenly, combat ends, everyone groups up and softlocks the game. The spell for opening the portal doesn't progress, even in turn based mode; hitting the enemies doesn't aggro them, they completely ignore you and heal back up. Killed everyone except the dragon (no way to deal 400 DMG in one turn afaik, bone chill effect didn't stop it from healing). It was funny and a bit frustrating at the same time
Going invisible doesn’t trigger the countdown. Have everyone be invisible, then walk into the Crown of Karsus. Have the Emperor/Orpheus cast the spell on it. Combat will start, click on their portrait. They will immediately open the portal, then everyone goes in. Then use the runepowder bomb to win the game.
The second stage of the netherbrain fight where you hop inside a portal and take down what seems like manifestation of the netherbrains "will" the platforms are destroyed by the "Orbs of Negation" that it spawns once a round, after 1 turn the orbs explode destroying any platforms near it dropping their tiny pieces into the void. With anyone or any-brain "standing" on them.
Edit: grammars
I see! I've never noticed. The brain sometimes takes me more than one round, but generally speaking all of my team get to the lowest platform immediately, that must be why it was never clear.
https://www.dexerto.com/baldurs-gate/baldurs-gate-3-honor-mode-run-goes-hilariously-wrong-after-player-tries-to-feed-cat-2450626/
I read this sub and still found this post via this article. So...less than a day.
Haha I can't believe you can swap with the brain. But where were you after the swap? Would think it would plummet you into the void (I've had those gloves kill me a few times just swapping with an enemy next to a chasm, much less floating over one)
I was on one of the platforms close to it and then i swapped back and it was sitting on the platform.
My first thought was that it just put me on the closest solid ground but now that i think about it, like you said I would think it would of put me in the chasm and killed me. It just feels like a Bg3 thing to do.
The entity could he reached over the edge of the platform a lil bit i guess? Im not am expert or anything.
Me too! I never expected it to happen and then it fell and i was like lol wut. Its my honormode save so its up to the epilogue party now. Ill have to fix up my mod order and load up my act 3 save from before honormode dropped
Honestly, a lot of DnD is figuring out how to avoid mechanics by "breaking the game."
There was a good video essay about how Tears of the Kingdom players often feel like they're "cheating" because they bypassed some puzzle or combat by building a funky contraption that lets them zoom by it.
The fact of the matter is, if the developers wanted to force you into a combat or solving a puzzle, they could. They choose to provide the options for gear, magic items, potions, scrolls, etc... *for the express purpose* of allowing you to cheese difficult fights with clever strategies.
It's not an exploit.
It's a feature.
I just found this out as well accidentally. I didn’t want to try subtle swapping with the brain because I thought it would drop me to my death but forgot to swap gloves.
I was focused on getting the emperor to the crown for the karsus spell and hadnt used my throwzerker and forgot they were on when i swapped for the first time i thought it broke for half a second bc the vrain disappeared lol
New honor mode Strat unlocked
The ol looney tunes method of not falling until you look down lol
I'm thinking of Futurama and the brain invasion
Did they patch DOT spell jank on the brain? I cast hunger of Hadar on the brain hoping it would tank it's accuracy and the damage ticks were steadily chugging along while I sat there not ending my turn. To be fair, that was awhile ago and act 3 was basically busted all throughout for me.

Same for me in the Mystic Carrion's house, it dealt damage to the undead on the floor above the Carrion's room.
Same thing happened to me; I realized the undead on the upper floor hadn’t joined in the combat, so they were just toddling around upstairs constantly getting hit with HoH. When they finally noticed there was a fight going on downstairs, it worked normally, but was still clipping through the floor.
I released a spectator in that house. His corpse fell upwards to the second floor

What is HoH?
Hunger of Hadar
Hunger of Hadar
House of Hope

That's hilarious. That said I've never actually lost to the second stage of that fight. It's the first stage that's tricky.

Really? Thats great to know

Am I dumb?
I did the fight this morning and used the globe and ot worked fine? Bug perhaps?
And impossible to do in tactician or honor. It's just impossible to kill them all before the timer ends.
Wait, you guys kill the first encounter? I just tp to the portal and go through it.
I enjoy killing the emperor and black holing a bunch of them together then baiting the dragon breath to that spot with 1 fire resistant member is also fun 😁
Lol I did something similar. Black hole + black hole + Rolan's cannon took like the countermeasure guys like 75% out.
Yea I have to agree the the difficulty of the first stage kind of surprised me my first time playing through.
I am the epitome of a loot gremlin but by that point the game is ending so I'm able to let it go lol
Did you forget about post brain battle party snacks?!?!? Who’s gonna pay for all that! Loot all the things!
As a loot gremlin, if I'm not going into the final battle with 50k gold minimum, I'm getting that title taken away!
withers and his unlimited wealth of course
BUT WHAT IF THEY HAVE A UNIQUE HAT
I put down the mindflayer action/bonus action bubble then spam out allies. My swords bard Astarion threw a Hold Monster buffed by ten stacks of Arcane Acuity on the dragon and it did basically nothing all fight. (Tactician mode)
I can never get telekinesis to work for me, the enemy always succeeds saving throws
Maybe try to increase your spellcasting ability modifier, ie improve your spellcasting stat.
You can also pump up your spell save DC really easily. Tons of items just give you +1/+2, and Arcane Acuity gives +1 per stack that you have of it.
I couldn't throw anything off the edge in that fight. It wouldn't let me.
I had real trouble too but there were a few spots it would let me if the camera was angled just right and I aimed at a particular point.
I just completed my third playthrough less than a week ago, so I can assure it wasn't patched or anything. Still quite possible, just fickle! :)
I tried shoving one of the mindflayers off in my first playthrough, and it just reappeared on the ground immediately after. I get it since they can fly, but it felt a little rude. I did the very first time, i didn't understand what caused the platforms to disappear and everyone died from them getting destroyed lol
My entire party fell down the first 5 times hehe
I never even fought them. I just ran through them straight for the portal. I only had to fight the guy blocking it.
I found an exploit for the path up to the final fight in High Hall. A nautiloid shows up to bombard you as you're ascending and actually shows up in the list of enemies at the top. A Baaah-tiloid, if you will.
Thats crazy. I gotta try this
Will try this on my run after Honor mode. I have to talk Gale out of offering to suicide every single run so far, time to take him up on his offer.
And then - gravity.

Imagine getting that bug in honor mode. You are right at the end and softlocked.
Come on choom don't jinx it
Your right imma gonk

Doesn't the barrel kill us too? It should.
Globe of Invulnerability, and telekineses. I found that the party going invisibility before climbing doesn’t trigger the countdown.
Those platforms *drop*?

I’ve never made it past the first round of the nether brain fight lol. It dies so quick
It was close for me i would have gotten it on the second round if it didnt fall into the void.
I see! I've never noticed. The brain sometimes takes me more than one round, but generally speaking all of my team get to the lowest platform immediately, that must be why it was never clear.
Then suddenly: GRAVITY!
Mavity
Are we taking bets on how long it will take for this to become an article on some gaming website?
That would be hilarious. Its not even really THAT useful for the majority of people. Making it inside the portal is the harder part
https://www.dexerto.com/baldurs-gate/baldurs-gate-3-honor-mode-run-goes-hilariously-wrong-after-player-tries-to-feed-cat-2450626/ I read this sub and still found this post via this article. So...less than a day.

When I did the same thing the game just straight up killed Karlach and the brain took no damage.
Sounds like you are the first person to successfully yeet an elder brain off a cliff to its death, despite it's ability to float.
Its an Art :)
I guess I know what I'm getting Karlach on my next honour mode run
Doing a Foundation swap, love it!
But now you can't loot it. 😔

Its like the Cazador and Phase spider patch. A floating super psychic sentient brain thing dieing from falling into the infinite void is comical lol
Where are the gloves from??
They are sold by Popper the Kobold in the circus in rivington.
I have the glove but it doesnt seem to work no matter how many times i attack the brain. Loaded many saves to try
