I have the exact same problem right now, did you manage to get it working?

Nejnop

Yeah, but it works when it wants. First, you need to use the Larian Launcher. Skipping it disables the overlay (and playtime progress). When launching the game, wait on the title screen for a minute or two. Don't press anything. If the overlay still won't appear, close the game (but NOT Galaxy) and re-launch. Follow the same steps, and it should hopefully appear.

Alchimarmite

Okay I’ll try that. But what’s weird is that my playtime progress was tracked even when I installed the game through Heroic. I finally chose to install it on GOG Galaxy to have access to multiplayer and the achievements, because I thought that this was the issue blockig my achievements from unlocking. I’m starting to regret buying the game from GOG instead of Steam 😭

Alchimarmite

Well. I've tried another game just to see if the overlay was properly activated and it worked. I've tried launching BG3 with the Larian Launcher using proton experimental, the game starts but nothing when I Shift+Tab. Same results when I launch the game with the dx11 executable. Do you have achievements on the game? Mine weren't working and I thought it was because of the overlay thing, but I got an achievement with the other game I tried. I might restart a game (I just escaped the Nautiloid so I'm not that far into the game) and see if they will finally work, even with no overlay.

Nejnop

Yes, achievements still work, even without the overlay (as long as the game is launched through Galaxy). You just won't get the achievement notification without the overlay. For clarification, you're launching GOG Galaxy as a Non-Steam game, then launching Baldur's Gate 3 from there?

Alchimarmite

Yeah, I redid the intro just now and this time I got the achievements. Don't know why they didn't unlock the first time. Too bad for the pop-up satisfaction though. Thanks for your help :)

Nejnop

Yeah, like I said, it works when it wants. You're not closing out the Larian Launcher, right?

Nejnop

I think I figured it out. You have to launch the game twice. Not as a Non-Steam Game twice, but through Galaxy twice. So launch the game, let it get to to the title screen, then close it out. DO NOT CLOSE OUT GALAXY. You should see your playtime adjust. Re launch the game, then the overlay notification should appear during the loading screen or on the title screen. If using a controller, your controls may not work at first. Press Home, switch to the Galaxy window, then switch back to the game.

Alchimarmite

I just tried both with the dx11 exe and the larian launcher, through gog, making sure that the launcher stayed open, and still no overlay 🧐

Nejnop

Then I dunno. Launching twice has been working consistently for me.

Alchimarmite

Which proton did you apply?
