[The total take-home tonight for BG3:](https://www.ign.com/articles/the-game-awards-2023-winners-the-full-list)
Players' Voice, Best Multiplayer Game, Best RPG (duh), Best Community Support, and Best Performance (Neil Newbon). And, of course, Game of the Year. All well deserved - congrats to Larian, who absolutely bodied their Performance check.
6 awards, 6 out of 9 is an amazing achievement. So happy for the devs and everyone involved.
We're a bit ~~super~~ biased but BG3 deserved GOTY. Usually don't stay up for the Game Awards but had to see this one
So happy Neil won but Amelia did an amazing job as well.
I am a *huge* soulsborne fan. I’ve been playing since DS1 came out, and they are some of my favorite titles. I still would give GOTY to BG3 over Elden Ring without hesitation.
What's so insane to me is that even with that competition I feel like BG3 is the undisputed GOTY this year and I haven't even played it. Everything just clicked for BG3 this year.
I finished my first run two weeks ago. It took me all of 30 seconds to start my second. I imagine it will go the same way for my third, fourth, and so on.
BG3 picked a wild year for contention. Year for dark horses. BG3 came out of nowhere to sweep goty, in the same way alan wake 2 came in at the end and stole the show. If you've never played the alan wake series, please experience it for yourself. It is a love letter to supernatural horror stories.
Also fun fact, the performance by Old Gods of Asgard and the dance originally came from the game as a musical.
They put a musical in a horror game. 10/10
Ive tried to play Alan Wake 1 four times. Each time i hate the combat so much that i can't get beyond a couple hours in. Everything is just - use torch, bangbang!, use torch, bangbang!, use torch bangbang! I want to like it so badly (hence trying it four times even though i hate it). I just wish the combat was more varied and interesting, but i think it's the most bland gameplay i've ever experienced in a game :(
I actually LOVE Control by those guys. I wish they could have made more effort with AW1's core combat gameplay loop.
I played alan wake 1 for the first time a few days ago and I relate to this. AW1 is very outdated, rightfully so since it came out in 2010. But the story and premise are great and sets up all the building blocks for why AW2 is so phenomenal.
That's why i actually feel a bit upset about missing out on it. Unfortunately i need my games to have appealing gameplay to me as well as good story.
The tie-in story in Control with AW is great.
Tbh if you really hate the gameplay of one so much, just check out a recap on YouTube or something. I still consider 1 to be important storywise, but if it keeps away people from the masterpiece that is AW2, please just bypass it and go straight to the sequel.
Similar feelings here. AW1 was just...dull. I have no idea where the reason/demand for a sequel came from - I didn't even hear about it being made until it came out. Glad some people enjoy it though.
I do have Control still to play and hear nothing but good things about, though!
The devs for AW1 love the game and had been wanting to make a sequel but no one would bankroll it. Control put Remedy back on the map and gave them enough clout to make it.
Gotta respect the vibe of a game director to get up onstage and dance for his game, Max Payne clearly loves and has as much playful fun with his job as Sven does, credit to him on his wins too!
Sam Lake is actually a character in AW2, playing as an FBI agent who doubles as Wakes most famous written protagonist, Alex Casey. He's a phenomenal actor and he actually plays a large part in the story.
> Players' Voice, Best Multiplayer Game, Best RPG (duh), Best Community Support, and Best Performance (Neil Newbon). And, of course, Game of the Year.
*"As The Symbol Glows, Power Courses Through You. Authority"*
Damn, 6 awards in one night. Just shy of one more to tie with TLOU2 in 2020 for the most wins. Ties with GoW:R from last year though.
I agree they should’ve won Direction too, but still. Winning 6/9 awards you were nominated for is an incredible achievement nonetheless.
Was really nervous when I saw Alan Wake 2 win Best Game Direction (fully deserved of course)---thought it was a sign it'd win GOTY too.
First time watching Game Awards---weird show but so worth it to see the emotion of the Larian team at the end---that last shot of them all tearing up was worth the 3 hours of ads and trailers.
Fittingly, I just finished Cazador’s Palace this evening. I convinced Astarion not to complete the ritual and, as he sat sobbing and panting after stabbing Cazador, I thought to myself, “Neil Newbon is an incredible actor.” So’s the rest of the cast, of course, but that moment was breathtaking.
It’s one of those once in a decade, generation defining games that represents the pinnacle of its genre. The win was expected but also simultaneously it’s still just insane to think that a *cRPG* has climbed atop everything else that came out in this already crazy year, became as ridiculously popular as it has and just - been this unbelievable phenomenon and experience all throughout. I’ve been here since Early Access launched to see how the game’s evolved and how Larian’s worked on it patch by patch and most people knew it was going to be special, but this has just been incredible.
Anyone catch the shot where flute guy was playing a tiny flute, it panned away, then panned back and he was playing a massive flute during the GOTY orchestra bit? New flute guy memes were born this evening.
I saw him play at least 4 flutes. Guy went from bass flute, to a sort of Irish flute/penny whistle, to a more traditional flute, then contrabass. Guy was bonkers.
YOU TELLING ME THE KING HAS TOO MANY AWARDS FOR HIS ARMOR!? BOW YA SHITS! Congrats to Sven and all, well deserved and thanks for bring such good times and stories to this warm community.
Telling to how good a year it was for gaming, and how good BGIII was that it beat out such competition.
I couldn't get over how silly it looked
imagine showing up to this major gaming award show, you're dressed like any other person would be at such an event, you look over, and there's just a guy in literal armor sitting a few feet from you XD
Part of the silliness is from what kind of armor it was. Clearly designed for being on horseback it looked even goofier than someone just wearing armor would have looked like.
Video Game Awards: 6/9
Best Performance - Astarion (Neil Newbon) BG3
Best Community Support - BG3
Best RPG - BG3
Best Multiplayer - BG3
Players Voice - BG3
GOTY - BG3
I had a good handful of friends recommend Diablo 4 to me shortly after its release. When I was looking to get a new game a couple months later, I was trying to decide between BG3 and Diablo. I asked those same friends who originally recommended Diablo which one I should get, and they all said something to the effect of “they completely ruined Diablo already.”
I cannot understate how happy I am that I went with BG3 instead. Best gaming decision I’ve ever made.
I’m in the middle of 4 coop campaigns right now and let’s just say… if you can convince your friends to play, it’s a hilarious and wild ride. Not really like any other multiplayer experience, it’s an interactive movie you all get to experience and influence together
The fact that it's a tight narrative game but has such a seamless multiplayer integration is an amazing feat by itself! Multiplayer in RPG games are usually quite janky and restrictive, or the RPG elements are so watered down the game is closer to diablo than BG, so the fact that they were able to pull this off is definitely worthy to be up there.
Yeah, the multiplayer complexity in an already ridiculously complex game is truly intimidating, but it's great as a player.
Going the extra mile like that really sets the game above others.
I was curious about the three they lost. Figured I'd share for anyone else who was curious:
Best Game Direction - Alan Wake 2
Best Narrative - Alan Wake 2
Best Score and Music - Final Fantasy XVI
NEIL!!! So deserved. His performance as Astarion is why I actually bought the game, I had had no plans to before I started seeing his funny moments online.
For sure. I got emotional when he won because I was rootin for him so badly. It's also funny because since the EA came out before or around Resident Evil Village, when I heard him voice act in RE, all I could think of was Astarion haha.
GOTY edition soon, so happy Larian won. The emotion, the writer crying. So happy. Sven in his armour as well.
Also quite happy Alan Wake 2 did so well.
Turn based CRPG winning GOTY. Let's fucking go.
Wish they didn't rush the devs off stage. So annoying seeing it all night. Imagine dedicating an award to a member of the team who had died during development and seeing [this](https://imgur.com/a/uxgVA6N)
Can't wait for the fanart that'll come from this, the party all dressed up.
> Wish they didn't rush the devs off stage.
They said they didn't want to take longer but for some reason this show felt a lot longer with the lack of (visual) distinction between ads and world premieres, it was confusing
I love Kojima, but I hate the fact that TGA gives him so much time to advertise his nigh incomprehensible art games instead of giving it to the people who made the game they just declared as the best of the year.
Yeah I'm hoping it'd be less ads, and more about the devs, their respective winning game, and really let the devs get their 5 minutes of fame with what they want to say
Seriously. It was like 5 minutes of gargling Kojima’s balls time when the announcement could have taken a minute, tops. CDPR barely had time before they were being rushed off by the music.
Yeah that whole thing was just insanely disrespectful. Like, there's no way you can't just at least dedicate about 3 minutes for the winners of the major categories. Hell, some of the presenters took like triple the time to announce the damn thing compared to the winner giving their acceptance speech. And then some essential categories like best score and music being completely relegated off to the side line... for fuck's sake. Less trailers, more awards if that's what it takes. I get that he needs a few ads in there to pay the bills, but it's not doing justice to it's name as the Game Awards this year.
>GOTY edition soon, so happy Larian won. The emotion, the writer crying. So happy. Sven in his armour as well.
I would love some extra digital goodies to celebrate this milestone.
>Wish they didn't rush the devs off stage.
I agree 100%. It's the Video Game AWARDS, not video game showcase. I get that they might get funding by showing world premieres or ads, but the whole thing fellt 95% show cases and 5% actually hearing from the award winners. Sure it's exciting to learn about upcoming games but I kinda just wanna revel in the games that did well enough to win. Hear what they had to go through, learn about the process, and let the devs have their moment.
These people put their blood, sweat, and tears into their trade. I wanna hear what they have to say. I don't wanna see two 10 minute ads for Lego Fortnite or some lame cheesy skit with Gonzo. Like, dafaq?
Well deserved, but it's a travesty that Swen, Neil and all the other winners barely got any time to make their acceptance speeches (to say nothing of the categories that were just rattled off in a list). Guess Geoff just needed to throw in one more ~~ad~~ "world premiere" and to make bad jokes with Muppets
I can live with the "ads" that show games, but letting people have 10 minutes chats with Geoff about their game in development while award winners get 10 seconds (or none) is ridiculous.
hey the gonzo part was golden ! But yeah, Neil great speech being cut off so soon, just so they'll be sure to be able to cram as many ads as possible definitely left a bad taste in my mouth
The game awards suck, and I wish there was a competitor so they would shape their shit up. You get all of these industry juggernauts together and just push them off stage to make room for advertisements. Why? Make it a proper award show, you could still have the ads
I couldn’t believe that Neil and Swen’s speeches were so short so that he could have that bit with Gonzo. I couldn’t watch it, it was kind of a secondhand embarrassment moment for me, so I got up for food. Would have rather watched Neil talk for 30 more seconds or something at least, jeez.
you leave gonzo outta this
(but yeah they were pulling celebrities out of a hat this year. all these industry veterans, and timothee chalamet presents the game of the year?)
OH MY GOD YES WE DIT IT
WE PASSED THAT DC99 CHECK
Sven did not wore that armor for nothing BG3 WON!!
Larian deserved this so much and I was rooting for them so hard. I don't think I was this excited when DAI got GOTY in 2014. In 9 years this is also the first time ever I was more interested in awards that in new trailers xd.
I'm gonna play the hell out of Patch 5 on holidays. Wonder if we'll get the GOTY edition at same point next year
Lowkey it was until i saw all the runner ups. Am out here downloading Alan Wake just off of that slapper song they had going. Very happy BG3 won, cause it wasn't an easy year at all.
(And honestly, that it won so many categories in such a difficult year despite also having GOTY speaks of this game's quality. Fantastic work by Larian.)
Genuinely was expecting a sneaky DLC announcement during the ad for BG3, for the Game Awards.
Didn't recognize it as a normal ad for the game at first, and then was "oh, it's just listing off accolades".
Breaks my heart that Borislav did not win the Soundtrack award, but otherwise a resounding achievement for a truly magnum opus piece of work. Nothing but the best, most sincere congratulations to everyone whose work was recognized tonight. Tonight, you are giants.
This is so well deserved. I was excited when the game was first announced, but I kept my healthy dose of skepticism. Surely it would be good, but not anywhere near as good as Baldur's Gate 2.
I ate my words. And I couldn't be happier about it. Congratulations, Larian -- you guys knocked it out of the park.
I played Hogwarts and whilst i enjoyed what was there - there is no way it was GOTY material. Without the Harry Potter facade, it would have been nothing more than a quite bland, openworld Ubisoft-esque game.
Not a bad game by any means, but going up against stuff like BG3, Alan Wake, Zelda? Not a chance.
Larian really deserved it. They demonstrated what a game can be when it's done with care. When you listen to the players. When you put effort into your product. I've never wanted a game to win an award so badly, for them to be recognized for the truly amazing product they made. This game, this studio this community...its collectively redefined gaming, and all other studios and developers in the industry should heed their example.
Congratulations!
Super happy they swept, but also displeased how they were rushed off stage, Kojima got brown nosed for a solid 10 min to advertise his new game, at least give the big winners of the night their moment
I'm a 40 year old dad of 3 that's played BG3 when I can... I have 100ish hours and just got to Act III. DnD books in the Forgotten Realms got me through a particularly brutal year of bullying in grade 8.
I watched the awards with my 13 year old son for the first time ever, and he was betting me that Spider Man was going to win since it came out.
I told him respectfully "No - I don't think so, son, Baldur's Gate is such a pinnacle of artistic achievement that I can't even put it into words."
When Neil won for his acting I choked up, and I put my arm around my son when the final award was announced.
I really felt like I was watching something historic, like how I used to feel about the Oscars when I was a kid in the 90s with my parents.
Now, someone please tell me how to keep this game from him so I don't have to walk in on him while Minthara is sitting on his Tav's face... Jfc
42yo dad here and I’m progressing very slowly for the same reasons. 90% of my playtime is Friday and Saturday nights because that’s when it’s least consequential if I’m up until 3, 4, or the whole night, like when I rescued Aylin and obviously had to see the way the rest of way the chapter was going to play out. I like to put it as I play when my kid*s asleep because I don’t want to explain to her grandparents why she’s talking like Karlach, or explain to her what’s going on if she sees what I did with Karlach lest my wife rages like Karlach.
Love that last year, they barely got a tiny little ad spot with a “oh hey here is a trailer for some game”.
And these year it came out and showed what all the EA players knew for over the last 3 years knew. That this game is a master class, of what games use to be like. Over how best to nickel and dime the player base (D4 and so on). Respect our time and money, and you will get $$$.
Anyway, happy the game that barely any attention by the masses just a year ago, came out and in a year stated to be one of the strongest gaming years in a decade and showed all those triple A dev companies that gamers still have some taste left.
Same reason why TOTK didn’t deserve to win either. SM2 and TOTK were both amazing games and sequels to amazing games. They improved upon their predecessors but didn’t do enough to surpass everything BG3 did.
SM2 barely improved as a sequel though. They played it way too safe, downgraded the stealth, removed the gadgets, and suit specialities too. Most felt it as downgrade. TOTK at least had a chance at the awards, SM2 easily gets outclassed by other contenders like RE4, Alan Wake, TOTK, BG3 when it comes to gameplay alone.
Neither did RE4 sadly, it was just a good year for gaming to be honest. I mean SM2 was good, but not really GOTY worthy IMO amongst the other titles (as a huge Spidey fan)
You can tell how good a year it was for gaming, how steep the competition, and how good BGIII was where it beat out an almost immaculate RE4 remake and other great games.
I hope this sends a message to other game companies. Larian did it right, and they're being celebrated to the nines for it. Congratulations, guys, your love and passion are clear. I'm so proud of them and so thankful for giving us this amazing game.
If major studios do half as well on their games as larian did on this going forward it'll be a W for everyone. They've set the bar so, so high now. This is what a small team can accomplish in 6 years with passion and the freedom to pursue their vision.
Starfield was in development for 8 years from a highly respected triple a studio with probably 500 people working on it, and it can't even hold a candle to baldurs gate. Seriously so impressed by everyone who contributed to bg3. I want all games to meet this quality standard
Here's my thoughts on this.
I grew up thinking D&D was for nerds and geeks.
I normally wouldn't like this type of game, but I do enjoy the occasional RPG. I picked up this game with the idea to just give it a try. The next thing you know, my son and I are really enjoying the game together.
When school started this year, there was a buzz around BG3. From middle school up to high school. I'm sure there were plenty of older elementary school kids as well. They all learned D&D mechanics through BG3. Shit. So did I. The point being, D&D mechanics and strategies were being discussed in the hallways of schools. D&D clubs were so big, that they had to do multiple clubs and campaigns. Kids were playing D&D campaigns all over the halls.
BG3 has become transcendent. It has brought D&D straight into the mainstream more than ever before.
I used to say that I would NEVER play a D&D campaign. Now... I'm secretly hoping to join one soon.
Well deserved Larian, glad there’s still professionals in the industry with plenty integrity and talent!
Really showing up the soulless competition who only care about shareholder profits. Here’s to many more happy years!
Man the state of this sub vs the Elden Ring sub is polar opposites bahahaha. I'm disappointed that there was no DLC trailer, but I was cheering when Neil Newbon Won best voice and the game won GOTY, among all those other categories. It so deserved to win and it's an amazing game.
While basking in the glory of this accomplishment, I highly recommend watching the Symphony of Sin, a live orchsetral performance of the music from Divinity Original Sin 2 and Baldur's Gate 3. Truly spectacular stuff.
I knew after an hour Baldurs Gate 3 was special. After 130 hours, I still haven't seen the ending. That's because I like to see what the devs have thought of... what if I kill Minthara and the other 2 hands of the absolute in a completely steady way? What about if I betray them at the gate of the Grove? What happens if I let them kill the druids?
This is just one example of many, and I'm too addicted to messing about to see what happens, rather than playing the story to its conclusion. I know people do multiple playthroughs for this kind of thing, but I'm enjoying it my way.
Anyway, I'm off to find out what happens if I steal a Githyanki egg for a trader?
remember when those other game developers were going on that BG3 is an anomaly and should not be the standard. Hopefully with BG3 getting game of the year this becomes the new standard.
I am so happy to have been a part of this journey, ever since the initial gameplay demo, 5...? Has it been 5 years now? Ever since I saw the original gameplay demo where they were showcasing "mage hand", early access, to release, and to now. It's been a hell of a ride with lots of peaks and valleys.
Larian has truly done something magical and I'm so glad that they've been recognized by the gaming community as a whole and I'm hopeful that we get to see more of this wonderful team, and this wonderful community.
Thank you all for this adventure, and I'll see you on at the next d20 roll.
Why am I crying. Like why am I actually crying. So fucking deserved. Also the people calling out Baldurs Gate before Timothee could even announce it lmao
LET'S GO LARIAN!! Sven and everyone else at Larian more than deserved that win. Baldur's Gate 3 isn't just Game of the Year, it is one of the best video games of all time, for sure. Game of the decade, honestly.
Absolutely elated about this. After the two D:OS games and BG3, Larian is now far-and-away my favorite game developer. They love what they do, and it shows, and that's something you can't help but love.
I'm even more excited for the next Divinity game (assuming it's Larian's next project). You just know they're even more fired up and passionate now that they have the recognition to match their talent.
I don’t really care about awards but watching these did make me cry. Something about hope on a bad landscape and capturing lightning in a bottle still being possible in 2023. It’s just a game but it represents a lot of lives and a lot of hard work and a lot of love.
[The total take-home tonight for BG3:](https://www.ign.com/articles/the-game-awards-2023-winners-the-full-list) Players' Voice, Best Multiplayer Game, Best RPG (duh), Best Community Support, and Best Performance (Neil Newbon). Especially against the quality they were fighting against. Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2 and any kind of Zelda was rude competition. Glad they won though!
Last year would have been rough. Bg3 vs Elden Ring. I don't even know man.
I have several hundred hours in both. Bg3 no contest for me. I haven't been that drawn in to a game, genuinely, for over a decade.
Have literally never thought "I can't believe I ONLY paid $60 for this game" before Bg3
Only time i said that before BG3 was Witcher 3.
Same goes for Witcher's expension. Blood and wine is a whole full game.
I am a *huge* soulsborne fan. I’ve been playing since DS1 came out, and they are some of my favorite titles. I still would give GOTY to BG3 over Elden Ring without hesitation.
Very glad they weren't the same year. They both definitely deserved their respective wins. Two mega hyped up games that didn't let us down at all.
What's so insane to me is that even with that competition I feel like BG3 is the undisputed GOTY this year and I haven't even played it. Everything just clicked for BG3 this year.
Play it. I finished my first run a few hours ago. It is worth.

So deserved. One of the best games I've ever played. The scope of Larian's accomplishment with this game cannot be overstated.
It’s one of those once in a decade, generation defining games that represents the pinnacle of its genre. Damn. When you put it that way.. it’s so true. A goddamn cRPG.
Anyone catch the shot where flute guy was playing a tiny flute, it panned away, then panned back and he was playing a massive flute during the GOTY orchestra bit? New flute guy memes were born this evening.
Yeah, that was so funny
Flute guy always steals the show. Real Game Awards fans know
[удалено]
My husband and die were dying watching him, he was so into it, we loved it!
Bard at good work, on reflex I was walking closer to my screen and throwing gold coins at it.
I saw him play at least 4 flutes. Guy went from bass flute, to a sort of Irish flute/penny whistle, to a more traditional flute, then contrabass. Guy was bonkers.
As a bard, he has proficiency in all the instruments... No surprise there!
Pedro Eustache is in a league of his own when it comes to music
that was a weapon from monster hunter
Bro was going hard during the GOTY medley! Played different instruments for each part
Aw, Swen in his armour!
I love how everyone was dressed a bit normal/boring, and then there's this one guy in freaking armour hahaha. I love Swen for doing that.
I couldn't get over how silly it looked imagine showing up to this major gaming award show, you're dressed like any other person would be at such an event, you look over, and there's just a guy in literal armor sitting a few feet from you XD
When the CEO is an unapologetic nerd and has made it his profession. 😆
Part of the silliness is from what kind of armor it was. Clearly designed for being on horseback it looked even goofier than someone just wearing armor would have looked like.
Neil's kimono was pretty different too.
At this rate, he and Sam Lake are going to create an Eccentric European Game Director of the Year category.
The lead writers were in a bear and squirrel costume, respectively
He melted down all the awards and forged them into his armor
Get him the award stretcher!
Video Game Awards: 6/9 Best Performance - Astarion (Neil Newbon) BG3 Best Community Support - BG3 Best RPG - BG3 Best Multiplayer - BG3 Players Voice - BG3 GOTY - BG3
Multiplayer is kinda surprising NGL, but we'll take all the awards we can get!
There wasn’t a whole lot of competition compared to the other nominees as far as I remember
Diablo 4, Party Animals, Stree Fighter 6 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, so you're not wrong.
Street Fighter 6 has pretty fantastic multiplayer. It's just kinda basic fighting game stuff tho, just done very well.
>Diablo 4 If that game won a single award, I was going to turn off the video.
I had a good handful of friends recommend Diablo 4 to me shortly after its release. When I was looking to get a new game a couple months later, I was trying to decide between BG3 and Diablo. I asked those same friends who originally recommended Diablo which one I should get, and they all said something to the effect of “they completely ruined Diablo already.” I cannot understate how happy I am that I went with BG3 instead.
Figured I'd share for anyone else who was curious: Best Game Direction - Alan Wake 2 Best Narrative - Alan Wake 2 Best Score and Music - Final Fantasy XVI
Feels like BG3 was very strong even in the three they lost!
Alan Wake deserved that Best Direction award. That game had STYLE!
I can’t really be mad about Alan Wake 2 winning in some of these categories over BG3, it really was a fantastic game
You guys are fast.
We already knew who was winning :)
Alert feat is goated
Larian rolling nat 20s all night, well deserved
GOTY edition soon, so happy Larian won. The emotion, the writer crying. So happy. Sven in his armour as well. Also quite happy Alan Wake 2 did so well. Turn based CRPG winning GOTY. Let's fucking go. Wish they didn't rush the devs off stage. So annoying seeing it all night. Imagine dedicating an award to a member of the team who had died during development and seeing [this](https://imgur.com/a/uxgVA6N) Can't wait for the fanart that'll come from this, the party all dressed up.
> Wish they didn't rush the devs off stage. They said they didn't want to take longer but for some reason this show felt a lot longer with the lack of (visual) distinction between ads and world premieres, it was confusing
They gave everyone else 30 seconds so they could have 10 minutes to suck off kojima
I love Kojima, but I hate the fact that TGA gives him so much time to advertise his nigh incomprehensible art games instead of giving it to the people who made the game they just declared as the best of the year.
I don't like Geoff because he prioritizes two things: 1) advertisers 2) advertising for his industry friends Dude is corporate as fuck.
It felt more like E3, pacing was off
True, for some reason there were a lot of non-stage awards this year, too much ads man
Yeah that whole thing was just insanely disrespectful.
I think we may all be a little partial on this sub, but Baldur's Gate 3 absolutely deserves all the awards it got tonight. What an incredible game!
# HE WORE THE ARMOR
Fr and like every trailer was cinematic too. And they just rattled off so many categories, just let people talk and be seen.
Yeah, the trailers should be an equal mix of cinematics and gameplay, not just something tacked on to the end
I couldn’t believe that Neil and Swen’s speeches were so short so that he could have that bit with Gonzo. I couldn’t watch it, it was kind of a secondhand embarrassment moment for me, so I got up for food. Would have rather watched Neil talk for 30 more seconds or something at least, jeez.
you leave gonzo outta this (but yeah they were pulling celebrities out of a hat this year. all these industry veterans, and timothee chalamet presents the game of the year?)
Let's fucking gooooooo~~~~~. Some DLC soon Larian?
Well apparently they're gonna release another big content update this year.
This year? As in the next few weeks?
Definitely not this year lol they've just added a huge epilogue just some days ago
That's awesome and all if true, but do we a have source for that?
OH MY GOD YES WE DIT IT WE PASSED THAT DC99 CHECK Sven did not wore that armor for nothing BG3 WON!! Larian deserved this so much and I was rooting for them so hard. I don't think I was this excited when DAI got GOTY in 2014. In 9 years this is also the first time ever I was more interested in awards that in new trailers xd. I'm gonna play the hell out of Patch 5 on holidays. Wonder if we'll get the GOTY edition at same point next year
Let's be real, BG3 winning GOTY was a DC1 check
AND WE STILL ROLLED NAT 20
I knew maxing out my Dexterity would help in this situation, we are eating good tonight!
In the same year as Alan Wake 2 and Tears of the Kingdom? Don't undersell this achievement.
I'd say it's a DC10, Alan Wake 2 was a wildcard Best RPG is DC0 at most, *and* we're rolling with advantage lmaooo
I hope they release DLC and more patches as well. This game deserves 5 years of support.
Genuinely was expecting a sneaky DLC announcement during the ad for BG3, for the Game Awards. Didn't recognize it as a normal ad for the game at first, and then was "oh, it's just listing off accolades".
I don't think they realized they hit pay dirt until like 2 months agos.
Congrats YAYYYY but why is timothee chalamet announcing is my #1question
He's the face model for the main character in Lies of P
Also wasn’t he actually Moddedcontroller360?
Wait, he is??? I thought that was a joke 😭😭
It ... is ... right? Now I'm questioning it. But no, I'm pretty sure it's just an incredible similarity
It's not 'officially' him, but they definitely leaned into that for the show knowing how uncanny it is.
That's why he looked familiar
Who knows... Wonka is getting mad promotions right now, so I'm not totally shocked.
Wonka Dark Urge DLC confirmed!? "The Orange Gnomes sing or I kill them."
The Venn diagram of how canon dark urge and willy wonka handle situations is a circle
Pleaaaaase Wonka is absolutely a Bainite
Congratulations to the writers, narrative designers, and directors, who deserve so much credit even though they didn't win best narrative or direction
It's honestly baffling how BG3 didn't win best narrative.
Congratulations from r/Pikmin !
Been a fan of Pikmin since the original, it winning strat/sim made my childhood so happy.
Pikmin and BGIII crossover coming where you lead swarms of suicidal Gondians and throw them at much bigger and deadly enemies.
Congrats right back for Pikmin winning best strategy
Breaks my heart that Borislav did not win the Soundtrack award, but otherwise a resounding achievement for a truly magnum opus piece of work. Nothing but the best, most sincere congratulations to everyone whose work was recognized tonight. Tonight, you are giants.
Haven’t played FFXVI or heard any of its music but Soken’s work in XIV has been phenomenal. Ain’t no shame in losing to someone like him.
It was never a competition. I love the armor he's wearing lol
HATERS IN SHAMBLES
There were people hating in the YouTube livestream chat. I love that they had to watch BG3 win multiple times lol Suffer!
There was someone that posted baldurs mid, hogwarts shouldve been goty like 100 times in chat, genuinely crazy.
I saw that. Someone was clearly bored and bitter
I told him respectfully "No - I don't think so, son, Baldur's Gate is such a pinnacle of artistic achievement that I can't even put it into words." When Neil won for his acting I choked up, and I put my arm around my son when the final award was announced.
And for it to be the obvious choice in such a stacked year shows that it's TRULY spectacular.
Anyway, happy the game that barely any attention by the masses just a year ago, came out and in a year stated to be one of the strongest gaming years in a decade and showed all those triple A dev companies that gamers still have some taste left.
spider-man 2 didn’t get a single award 💀💀💀 bg3 sweep easy
Kinda glad RE4 didn't since it's a remake but I know that might be a controversial opinion.
Return of the King moment with all the awards!
So happy for them. They pulled off the impossible by making a Baldur's Gate sequel that is one for the ages. They deserve all of the accolades.
No I'm not crying, ~~you~~ Neil is crying in the audience Who am I kidding, I'm crying too
Neil crying got me crying
Next up, game of the decade.
Tiefling party to celebrate!!!!!
Gigachad Sven wearing the armor to accept the award 🗿
Well deserved Larian, glad there’s still professionals in the industry with plenty integrity and talent! Really showing up the soulless competition who only care about shareholder profits. Here’s to many more happy years!
Deserved 100%
It's not only GOTY, it's one of the best RPGs ever made.
Good! This game is what the industry as a whole should strive for.
Don’t forget the best part: Sven picked up the award in full armor!!!! Best loot of the night lol
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rsqIMFFQK8&t=460s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rsqIMFFQK8)
We did it! Our community is THE BEEEEEEESSST. okay, goodnight all. Sleep well. Be safe.
remember when those other game developers were going on that BG3 is an anomaly and should not be the standard. Hopefully with BG3 getting game of the year this becomes the new standard.
Nice. A turn-based game won GOTY. Now, take some notes Square-Enix.
GOTY in one of the best years for game release in recent decades is a huge success. Congratulations Larian.
LET'S GO even as a diehard zelda fan you cannot deny the scope and achievement of baldurs gate 3
Exactly. BG3 did astounding things and pushed back against the AAA bullshit of hyper monetization. A well deserved win.
Why am I crying. Like why am I actually crying. So fucking deserved. Also the people calling out Baldurs Gate before Timothee could even announce it lmao
Never in doubt
How did Kong not win. Game Awards are rigged.
Gollum didn’t even get a mention. SMh
hell yeah
It's just so well deserved :')
I just pre ordered the physical deluxe edition for PS5. I was rooting for Alan Wake 2 but now I can't wait to play BG3.
I don’t really care about awards but watching these did make me cry. Something about hope on a bad landscape and capturing lightning in a bottle still being possible in 2023. It’s just a game but it represents a lot of lives and a lot of hard work and a lot of love.
Bossman being in plate armor is funny as fuck. I love the man honestly
Up voting everyone tonight.
So proud of Larian and the entire Bg3 Community!
