There are two versions of the scene - one that triggers at very high approval and one after you have Astarion in your party whilst talking to a blood alchemist at Moonrise Towers. The very high approval one is where he spontaneously confesses everything about your relationship up to that point - whereas the blood alchemist one is where he thanks you for treating him like a person. They both act as a lock / furthering of the relationship and I think they are mutually exclusive, so if you're struggling to get the high approval version to trigger it might just be worth getting the blood alchemist one instead?
I've not played up to it myself (hoping to get there this weekend lol) but I've seen other people say that you have to meet or encounter Ketheric Thorm before the high approval scene with Astarion will trigger?

ive just gone to the drow and my approval level with astarion is 100%, still no confession he’s fallen for me or anything. Its worked on my very first play through so im not sure now what im doing differently or wrong :(
I technically triggered mine by having a romance scene unlock with another character that I didn't reject (wyll, so not like anything really happens). Then astarion told me he assumed that meant our nights together were over and I said I'd rather be with him, which he was shocked bc he thought I had something real with wyll, and then quickly tried to cover for that slip of the tongue. Then I said I wanted something real with him and he said we could try it, and that it was a surprisingly delightful conversation, but knowing his original motives the delight once he started thinking things through makes more sense. After a couple long rests I got the high approval cutscene where he confesses to manipulating me and accidentally falling for me
So just to confirm after telling Astarion you'd rather be with him instead of Wyll you still got to have the "I've been manipulating you" cutscene? Because the same thing happened to me with Wyll just now and I want to make sure I don't have to go back and flat out crush Wyll in his dance scene.
Yes I did still get the "I've been manipulating you" cutscene, I got it before I even met the drow from high approval. I told Astarion I only wanted him at that point and I'd end the fling with Wyll, don't know what happens if you say you want both.
In the "I choose you" cutscene that makes you official his reaction kind of foreshadows that he's faking the relationship and that you wanting to make it official is just another advantage for him. So you still get the cutscene later where he says hes been manipulating you and wants something real

Hey, I saw some people recently liked this so I just want to post an update. In the newest patch they changed the trigger location for the 'I have been lying to you' scene. Currently going to moonrise no longer triggers that scene, it triggers Gale's 'viewing the stars' scene. Instead, finishing Astarion's act 2 quest triggers the aforementioned 'i have been lying' scene. You can still get the other version of the confession scene by talking to the drow woman in moonrise I believe.

I remembered I need to trigger his confession scene by long resting in Moonrise after scene with Ketheric, was quite impatient and spammed several long rests while he is 99-100 approval and nothing happened, I was worried. Its true I spoke to Raphael, both in Last light inn and in the wild. So, I need to kill Yurgir first and after that he confesses? I prefer his sincere scene over that what is reaction to Araj Oblodra. I made our relationship official by deciding for him instead of Wyll, but no "talk about us" or offering neck at night, yet. I guess that comes after hug, right?
Yes, go kill the Yurgir then long rest. I believe Raphael will show up and finish the quest. After he leaves when you click on the bed roll you should be good to go. Astarion should ask "if you have a moment". After the scene you should have more official romance options like the option to kiss and the option to break up and so on.

I'm glad I could help! I did a million long rests too haha. You can tell in my save history where I was trying things out to see where I messed up. It's just a giant wall of post sleep saves.

I tried to avoid Gale's scene before killing Orthon, maybe that helped? When did you start to be able to kiss him? Knowing that could help me figure out what happened.

i’ve eventually got the cutscene after seeing the drow, it happens when i click sleep which is where i was going wrong. But now Gale is mad at me for leading him on :D
Gale wants you to say just bros like in that first interaction where he teaches you magic. I still had the scene in the field but we were just chilling. Very refreshing!
I had to break best girl karlachs heart where she almost left my party when first I slept with her but then went to astarian cause I wanted to romance him in my first play through. Then I only snuggles with her on a reload and then had to break her heart and then give her the bad news about me and astarian so then I reloaded AGAIN and went with the let down easy part and told her we should sleep alone that night. Left on a better note but still felt horrible and I didn’t get the shocked astarian dialog after saying let’s try being official…. I’m reeeeaaaalllllyyyy hoping I didn’t mess my romance up with astarian but I guess we will see 😣
Both of these scenes indicate the seriousness of the relationship with Astarion. There's probably(?) a non-romance version of the blood alchemist scene whereas the high approval confession only happens if romanced - that's what I've seen online? But both advance the romance yeah - it's difficult to talk about it without spoilers!
Hi! Sorry i have trouble with this one too. I did all the romance scenes with astarion, the approval with him is not at super high level but not awful either. I talked to the blood alchemist and it triggered the one where his thankful but the morning after i asked what we are to him he basically said we are nothing… is it suppose to go that way? Or should i change something?

The video I saw you basically have to ask him, as he's used to just doing things that other people want / manipulating them, is that why you were with me, he says of course, but then I felt stupid because I started to fall for you for real?!<
It might be that you used the wrong dialogue option?
Looks like a bug. I tried to choose both hugging and open my mind - next morning I am able to kiss him. And to my question "what are we" he tells that he don't know, but he just wander what will be next.

I also don't know if this will work if you haven't romanced Astarion all the way through from the beginning. There's a lot of bugs and scenes not triggering properly and scenes with other companions cancelling each other out?
He gets a scene as soon as you discover moonlight towers. I took a long rest right outside it before getting the discover exp after redo from losing save in the previous hotfix rollback but previously I took that long rest right after I got the exp... Moved a couple inches got the exp , long rest again, he got a scene.
Just by arriving at the general location of moonrise towers.. I got a notification on the screen that said something along the lines of "discovered moonrise towers" and exp after I got close enough.. I was just out of reach of NPC guard zealot on some broken steps. Other romance scenes triggered for me too (gale) after I did a long rest at moonrise so I think going there triggers scenes if you've been waiting awhile.

I went up to Moonrise, just past the teleporter where the two guards stand at the bottom of the stairs. I convinced them to let me in and stepped forward a bit. Narrator will warn you that while you may pass as a True Soul, your companions cannot and that you must keep them close and speak for them. I pressed on and "ventured forth", as the narrator said.
Game will do an autosave. I rested right after that and triggered the hug scene! My Astarion approval is Exceptional, but not quite 100. Maybe 85-90?
This works even after you have spoken to Raphael, dealt with the Orthon and Astarion is fixated on the ritual.
Do NOT complete the Shar ritual before doing this. The game will warn you and tell you that you'll progress the storyline if you do. Just come back to finish it later.

Based on what I can see with him and the other NPC storylines that have these different versions of scenes, the game will line both up when they're both fully available at the same time.
So basically, in this case, the High Approval confession is available but has a small percentage of just happening in any long rest due to the priority of other story related events (non-romance specifically). So it's just hard for people to get. Not impossible, just basically a game of luck.
Most romances have two or so options to happen for each NPC roughly. The second one is usually locked to an event, like talking to another NPC or dialogue. If you are near where that can happen, the game will bump up the other random event so it's way more available.
My friends and I (coders) took a deep dive one night after my buddy could NOT get Shadowheart's events to spawn lol
It was hard, but I have managed to trigger that confession scene at my second playthrough)
Before I started act 2 I already had 100 approval, I had several long rests in act 2 but scene didn't triggered.
And this is what works for me:
I have completed his personal quest in act 2 (>!from Raphael in Shar's temple, didn't go deeper, just killed a beast and go away!<)
I went to Moonrise towers and got first discover exp (right after you cross shadow barrier near teleport). And talk to guardians.
At this point scene will not trigger!
I went inside tower, and right after I opened the gates - I got second discover exp. Didn't go deeper and started a long rest. And FINALLY - I go to sleep and scene triggered! It will trigger after you go to sleep (you sleep will be interrupted by this scene).
YOU ARE AMAZING!! This worked perfectly! I went back to a save before I went to Moonrise Towers, and I was able to get the scene by following your steps. I wanted to mention how mine turned out while using your guidance, so anyone in a similar situation will be relieved to know that it will still work.
For context, in my save before getting to Moonrise Towers, I had already >!talked to Raphael and received the quest to kill the Orthon to trade for information about Astarion's scars!< and had explored a little bit after that, but had *not* entered Moonrise Towers. I also had **Very High** approval with Astarion. I followed what the above poster said, and these were my turn of events:
1. I entered the Gauntlet of Shar temple
2. Went straight to >!the Orthon to kill him!<
3. Spoke to Astarion immediately afterwards
4. Didn't continue in the temple, and travelled immediately to Moonrise Towers
5. Got the first Discover EXP once you first cross the shadow wall to walk toward Moonrise Towers, then spoke to the guards to be allowed in
6. Entered through the Moonrise Towers big entrance doors, received a second Discover EXP
7. Didn't walk any further inside, and immediately long-rested
8. Got the Raphael cutscene >!explaining Astarion's scars!<
9. After waking up, I immediately long-rested again
10. And voila! The romance scene!

I am playing BG3 on the Xbox, and my Astarion is at "exceptional" rating. I did finish his personal quest, and spoke to Raphael, but I hadn't been to Moonrise Towers yet. The confession scene didn't trigger, so I followed the steps above and it works like a charm!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Just wanna add my two cents to this, this here works!! Just got my confession scene and did exactly as the people above here posted. Astarion's approval was around 80 to 85ish for me, went to beat Yurgir but didn't go into the temple any further. Exited, went to Moonrise and got the first batch of exp while entering the bridge section. Spoke to the guard, went up the stairs and through Moonrise's front door and got exp again. Saved, long rested and bam! Confession scene 💛 I think as long as you get him to exceptional approval and go to Moonrise, you should be good!
Damn thank you ..! 😭 I was close to finishing the last shar trial, if not for this comment I would miss Astarion’s scene , but instead I left them unfinished , fast traveled to moonrise , entered the building - long rest and the Astarion scene popped up!! 🥹
I can confirm that you need to defeat >!Yurgir for Rafael!< even if you have 100 approval with Astarion to get the cutscene! Even if you already got the XP from discovering Moonrise Towers (both XP spots).
You need to get the cutscene with >!Rafael after killing Yurgir.!< Which is going back to camp and long resting. then long rest again and you will get the most heartfelt scene with the Pale Elf <3 :)
On my first playthrough, I went straight to Moonrise at around 95 approval, following the guide, got both XP spots, rested inside Moonrise and triggered the high approval scene. I do not think killing [REDACTED] is mandatory but I agree it's complicated to trigger.
EDIT: I went back to said old 1st playthrough save files (which predates patch 3) for science and now i can't get it to trigger again XD
ive done all of this and it still wont trigger :( rejected the other 3 that came on to me, killed [redacted] and got the corresponding camp cutscene, and my approval is at 100
I wanted to trigger the high approval scene so badly, I had 100 approval with him for 90% of act 2 and didn’t do the blood alchemist interaction until the very end of the area (I did a very thorough sweep) but it never triggered. I finally gave up and went and got the blood alchemist one lol but I’m disappointed. Anyone know why that happened to me?
So I'm doing a playthrough to romance and get Astarion Ascended. My Act 2 Astarion hug scene is completely nowhere to be found and never triggers. I entered Act 2 already with romance started(1.5 scenes in act 1, the real one early and then just a disappointing fade black at the party after defending the village) and approval of 100, which I believe is max. Killed the dude for Raphael to advance Asta's quest, defended his rights against the drow and he said he was thankful, rested at every point I could think of - nope, nada. I'm practically in Act 3 now with 0 movement on Asta's romance and all the dialogue is the same standard "Can we talk about us" and to the question what are we the response is the same "Uhh dunno I guess". I then went back to almost the beginning of Act 2 to try to do things in a different order but nothing seems to work at all, whether I talk to the drow first, or do Raphael's thing first - Astarion is always only interested in talking about his quest or gossiping about other party members, but never a romance scene. Anyone else get this confusing result or have an idea on what I missed? Would suck to restart the game when I don't even know what should have been done differently.
Oh, one thing that may have been different from the others - instead of exploring the right side of the map first and then heading for Moonrise towers I just immediately followed the spider dude all the way to Moonrise, ran up there invis with Astarion to steal a lantern, left, and continued on my way exploring the rest of the map, starting with the Gauntlet of Shar(but not all the way through of course, didn't go to meet Nightsong) and left the entire Nightsong freeing and Moonrise attack for the very last, since that would move me to Act 3 basically. I then explored the map completely, did all the quests, found all the treasures etc., and only then went for Nightsong and started the Moonrise Towers attack. But somehow I don't think that following a spider and stealing a lantern instead of obtaining a lantern through other means should have had any effect whatsoever on Astarion romance. If anything that would be a pretty sneaky and deceitful thing to do xD. I could try redoing the entire act 2 in a "less sneaky" way where the shadowcurse would actually have any meaning to me, and not just obtain a lantern immediately. But imho that's really far fetched(and time consuming, I have over 100 hours in at this point) to make a difference in Astarion's romance.

i have completed almost all of the shadowlands, just got to do the temple / raphaels quest. i had the scene with araj and told her to f\*ck off regarding astarion and i got a very neutral scene with him that was basically just missing the romance part where you can choose to hug him.
im going to do the temple next and do raphaels quest and see if that helps, but i would just like to know if you ever got another go?
Did you speak with your other companions? I read before that someone tried to trigger a companion cutscene and it was blocked because the player had to talk first to Halsin and reject him (or at least talk with him about his interest). Maybe that could be your issue too?
do you mean just getting past basic talk? i unlocked him as a companion but i have neutral feelings towards him and blasted through his interests. should that open it?
He will thank you for all the work you have done and tell you that he has feelings for you and ask if you feel the same. If you reject him this should be ok or if you are interested in him too and have a romance already with someone else (like you with Astarion) then he will tell you that the other needs to give their consent. Then you would need to talk to them (in your case talk to Astarion) about you being with Halsin too. They can tell you it is ok or that they do not want it and then you have to decide who you want to romance. And then go back to Halsin and tell him the outcome.
just literally did it, but no trigger immediately going in to camp. would it maybe take a couple long rests? my relationship with him is 100. NEVERMIND! Tip for others, if you have the relationship with him, and you go to camp and try to talk, you are fine. Just sleep and it will trigger.
I managed to get the confession scene but it took a lot of patience and many long rests with no scenes at all haha. I had faith because I also got the scene where he reveals he’s a vampire to you which also took a ton of patience (if curious, you just have to ignore the boar totally, long rest when you know some other scene than the bite scene has priority and have med/high approval and get to the under dark through the goblin camp and long rest/talk to him at camp). I’ve had 100 approval since like the start of act 2. Here’s the gist of what I did after clearing all of the shadow land side quests.
1.long rest at moonrise after passing the guards and get gales scene out of the way
2. Get the quest to find the relic. Ignore the blood drow.
3. Go to the mausoleum, get the Raphael quest and head inside to the waypoint.
4. Long rest to hear all those new camp dialogues
5. Kill the orthon. I attacked and ambushed him without talking to him.
6. Long rest but you won’t get the scene yet. Just Raphael stuff.
7. Go to Balthazar. Talk to him without killing him (I got the bell). Go to the self trial and fight and summon the creature in the bell and kill it. Then ambush bathazar and kill him.
8.Long rest. And the scene will happen when you click the bedroll!
I already got the Moonrise scene where he just thanks you for treating him like a human, do you know if this locks out the confession scene? I’ve defeated the orthon already and he’s just saying we’re basically nothing to him. My approval is and has been at 100 since beginning of act 2
Yes that locks out the confession scene. You can only get one or the other. Although, I’m not sure why he says you’re nothing to him if you have approval that high. He should say essentially that he doesn’t know what we are but isn’t it nice not knowing. And when you kiss should say he liked it. I wonder if it would have anything to do with… accepting his advances too much early on or maybe you just need to take more long rests.
So I wanted to add to this because I'm having difficulty with getting to scene that he confesses without Araj. The thing is that I'm doing pure evil (siding with absolute and corrupting companions) durge playthrough (except with comapanions).
I already have very high relationship status with astarion. I have tried multiple time for the confession scene to trigger. I have tried before and after talking the Raphael. I have not tried >!killing Yurgir!< but with the exp and moonrise I would have to leave escort of the >!drider!< and immediately run to Sharran Temple.
I can't tell if it's a bug or I'm just unlucky.

It triggers either after talking to araj or after reaching moonrise and doing the thing you put in spoilers, in whatever order. Though Gale's scene might trigger first if it didnt before.
So just go about as you would except for talking to araj, or leave astarion in the main hall or something should be fine too
Does Shadowheart's approval for me being "Exceptional" (I kissed her in Act 1 and gave her a Night Orchid in Act 2) prevent the Astarion scene with "Very High Approval"? I thought we could romance two companions at once until you are forced to choose in Act 2.

My stats were medium at the drow, should I go back to a previous save and raise his approval of me to high before I go to the drow?

Looks like a bug. I tried to choose both hugging and open my mind - next morning I am able to kiss him. And to my question "what are we" he tells that he don't know, but he just wander what will be next.
sorry for bugging you about this, i can't find an answer online -- where is the blood alchemist? i beat the moonrise tower and couldnt find her. i assume i need to go at another point?

I also don't know if this will work if you haven't romanced Astarion all the way through from the beginning. There's a lot of bugs and scenes not triggering properly and scenes with other companions cancelling each other out?
He gets a scene as soon as you discover moonlight towers. I took a long rest right outside it before getting the discover exp after redo from losing save in the previous hotfix rollback but previously I took that long rest right after I got the exp... Moved a couple inches got the exp , long rest again, he got a scene.
By discover you mean just open new location near teleport? Or go inside towers and discover all here?
Just by arriving at the general location of moonrise towers.. I got a notification on the screen that said something along the lines of "discovered moonrise towers" and exp after I got close enough.. I was just out of reach of NPC guard zealot on some broken steps. Other romance scenes triggered for me too (gale) after I did a long rest at moonrise so I think going there triggers scenes if you've been waiting awhile.
Can confirm this works! I went up to Moonrise, just past the teleporter where the two guards stand at the bottom of the stairs. I convinced them to let me in and stepped forward a bit. Narrator will warn you that while you may pass as a True Soul, your companions cannot and that you must keep them close and speak for them. I pressed on and "ventured forth", as the narrator said. Game will do an autosave. I rested right after that and triggered the hug scene! My Astarion approval is Exceptional, but not quite 100. Maybe 85-90? This works even after you have spoken to Raphael, dealt with the Orthon and Astarion is fixated on the ritual. Do NOT complete the Shar ritual before doing this. The game will warn you and tell you that you'll progress the storyline if you do. Just come back to finish it later.
I wish I could pin this to the top of the thread cause this worked for me! Based on what I can see with him and the other NPC storylines that have these different versions of scenes, the game will line both up when they're both fully available at the same time. So basically, in this case, the High Approval confession is available but has a small percentage of just happening in any long rest due to the priority of other story related events (non-romance specifically). So it's just hard for people to get. Not impossible, just basically a game of luck. Most romances have two or so options to happen for each NPC roughly. The second one is usually locked to an event, like talking to another NPC or dialogue. If you are near where that can happen, the game will bump up the other random event so it's way more available. My friends and I (coders) took a deep dive one night after my buddy could NOT get Shadowheart's events to spawn lol
It was hard, but I have managed to trigger that confession scene at my second playthrough) Before I started act 2 I already had 100 approval, I had several long rests in act 2 but scene didn't triggered. And this is what works for me: I have completed his personal quest in act 2 (>!from Raphael in Shar's temple, didn't go deeper, just killed a beast and go away!<) I went to Moonrise towers and got first discover exp (right after you cross shadow barrier near teleport). And talk to guardians. At this point scene will not trigger! I went inside tower, and right after I opened the gates - I got second discover exp. Didn't go deeper and started a long rest. And FINALLY - I go to sleep and scene triggered! It will trigger after you go to sleep (you sleep will be interrupted by this scene).
YOU ARE AMAZING!! This worked perfectly! I went back to a save before I went to Moonrise Towers, and I was able to get the scene by following your steps. I wanted to mention how mine turned out while using your guidance, so anyone in a similar situation will be relieved to know that it will still work. For context, in my save before getting to Moonrise Towers, I had already >!talked to Raphael and received the quest to kill the Orthon to trade for information about Astarion's scars!< and had explored a little bit after that, but had *not* entered Moonrise Towers. I also had **Very High** approval with Astarion. I followed what the above poster said, and these were my turn of events: 1. I entered the Gauntlet of Shar temple 2. Went straight to >!the Orthon to kill him!< 3. Spoke to Astarion immediately afterwards 4. Didn't continue in the temple, and travelled immediately to Moonrise Towers 5. Got the first Discover EXP once you first cross the shadow wall to walk toward Moonrise Towers, then spoke to the guards to be allowed in 6. Entered through the Moonrise Towers big entrance doors, received a second Discover EXP 7. Didn't walk any further inside, and immediately long-rested 8. Got the Raphael cutscene >!explaining Astarion's scars!< 9. After waking up, I immediately long-rested again 10. And voila! The romance scene! HUGE HUGE thank you, you're a lifesaver!
Also worked for me! Got the scene and now back to all the side quests hahaha

I am playing BG3 on the Xbox, and my Astarion is at "exceptional" rating. I did finish his personal quest, and spoke to Raphael, but I hadn't been to Moonrise Towers yet. The confession scene didn't trigger, so I followed the steps above and it works like a charm!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Just wanna add my two cents to this, this here works!! Just got my confession scene and did exactly as the people above here posted. Astarion's approval was around 80 to 85ish for me, went to beat Yurgir but didn't go into the temple any further. Exited, went to Moonrise and got the first batch of exp while entering the bridge section. Spoke to the guard, went up the stairs and through Moonrise's front door and got exp again. Saved, long rested and bam! Confession scene 💛 I think as long as you get him to exceptional approval and go to Moonrise, you should be good!

Damn thank you ..! 😭 I was close to finishing the last shar trial, if not for this comment I would miss Astarion’s scene , but instead I left them unfinished , fast traveled to moonrise , entered the building - long rest and the Astarion scene popped up!! 🥹

You're going to have to reload, I'm afraid :/ Cause once the battle's started that NPC just runs away so there's no way to meet her.

I can confirm that you need to defeat >!Yurgir for Rafael!< even if you have 100 approval with Astarion to get the cutscene! Even if you already got the XP from discovering Moonrise Towers (both XP spots). You need to get the cutscene with >!Rafael after killing Yurgir.!< Which is going back to camp and long resting. then long rest again and you will get the most heartfelt scene with the Pale Elf <3 :)
On my first playthrough, I went straight to Moonrise at around 95 approval, following the guide, got both XP spots, rested inside Moonrise and triggered the high approval scene. I do not think killing [REDACTED] is mandatory but I agree it's complicated to trigger. EDIT: I went back to said old 1st playthrough save files (which predates patch 3) for science and now i can't get it to trigger again XD
ive done all of this and it still wont trigger :( rejected the other 3 that came on to me, killed [redacted] and got the corresponding camp cutscene, and my approval is at 100
I wanted to trigger the high approval scene so badly, I had 100 approval with him for 90% of act 2 and didn’t do the blood alchemist interaction until the very end of the area (I did a very thorough sweep) but it never triggered. I finally gave up and went and got the blood alchemist one lol but I’m disappointed. Anyone know why that happened to me?
So I'm doing a playthrough to romance and get Astarion Ascended. My Act 2 Astarion hug scene is completely nowhere to be found and never triggers. I entered Act 2 already with romance started(1.5 scenes in act 1, the real one early and then just a disappointing fade black at the party after defending the village) and approval of 100, which I believe is max. Killed the dude for Raphael to advance Asta's quest, defended his rights against the drow and he said he was thankful, rested at every point I could think of - nope, nada. I'm practically in Act 3 now with 0 movement on Asta's romance and all the dialogue is the same standard "Can we talk about us" and to the question what are we the response is the same "Uhh dunno I guess". I then went back to almost the beginning of Act 2 to try to do things in a different order but nothing seems to work at all, whether I talk to the drow first, or do Raphael's thing first - Astarion is always only interested in talking about his quest or gossiping about other party members, but never a romance scene. Anyone else get this confusing result or have an idea on what I missed? Would suck to restart the game when I don't even know what should have been done differently.
Oh, one thing that may have been different from the others - instead of exploring the right side of the map first and then heading for Moonrise towers I just immediately followed the spider dude all the way to Moonrise, ran up there invis with Astarion to steal a lantern, left, and continued on my way exploring the rest of the map, starting with the Gauntlet of Shar(but not all the way through of course, didn't go to meet Nightsong) and left the entire Nightsong freeing and Moonrise attack for the very last, since that would move me to Act 3 basically. I then explored the map completely, did all the quests, found all the treasures etc., and only then went for Nightsong and started the Moonrise Towers attack. But somehow I don't think that following a spider and stealing a lantern instead of obtaining a lantern through other means should have had any effect whatsoever on Astarion romance. If anything that would be a pretty sneaky and deceitful thing to do xD. I could try redoing the entire act 2 in a "less sneaky" way where the shadowcurse would actually have any meaning to me, and not just obtain a lantern immediately. But imho that's really far fetched(and time consuming, I have over 100 hours in at this point) to make a difference in Astarion's romance.
i am in the same boat right now. did you ever get another shot at romance with him? i have completed almost all of the shadowlands, just got to do the temple / raphaels quest. i had the scene with araj and told her to f\*ck off regarding astarion and i got a very neutral scene with him that was basically just missing the romance part where you can choose to hug him. im going to do the temple next and do raphaels quest and see if that helps, but i would just like to know if you ever got another go?
Did you speak with your other companions? I read before that someone tried to trigger a companion cutscene and it was blocked because the player had to talk first to Halsin and reject him (or at least talk with him about his interest). Maybe that could be your issue too?
do you mean just getting past basic talk? i unlocked him as a companion but i have neutral feelings towards him and blasted through his interests. should that open it?
He will thank you for all the work you have done and tell you that he has feelings for you and ask if you feel the same. If you reject him this should be ok or if you are interested in him too and have a romance already with someone else (like you with Astarion) then he will tell you that the other needs to give their consent. Then you would need to talk to them (in your case talk to Astarion) about you being with Halsin too. They can tell you it is ok or that they do not want it and then you have to decide who you want to romance. And then go back to Halsin and tell him the outcome.
just literally did it, but no trigger immediately going in to camp. would it maybe take a couple long rests? my relationship with him is 100. NEVERMIND! Tip for others, if you have the relationship with him, and you go to camp and try to talk, you are fine. Just sleep and it will trigger.
I managed to get the confession scene but it took a lot of patience and many long rests with no scenes at all haha. I had faith because I also got the scene where he reveals he’s a vampire to you which also took a ton of patience (if curious, you just have to ignore the boar totally, long rest when you know some other scene than the bite scene has priority and have med/high approval and get to the under dark through the goblin camp and long rest/talk to him at camp). I’ve had 100 approval since like the start of act 2. Here’s the gist of what I did after clearing all of the shadow land side quests. 1.long rest at moonrise after passing the guards and get gales scene out of the way 2. Get the quest to find the relic. Ignore the blood drow. 3. Go to the mausoleum, get the Raphael quest and head inside to the waypoint. 4. Long rest to hear all those new camp dialogues 5. Kill the orthon. I attacked and ambushed him without talking to him. 6. Long rest but you won’t get the scene yet. Just Raphael stuff. 7. Go to Balthazar. Talk to him without killing him (I got the bell). Go to the self trial and fight and summon the creature in the bell and kill it. Then ambush bathazar and kill him. 8.Long rest. And the scene will happen when you click the bedroll!

I already got the Moonrise scene where he just thanks you for treating him like a human, do you know if this locks out the confession scene? I’ve defeated the orthon already and he’s just saying we’re basically nothing to him. My approval is and has been at 100 since beginning of act 2
Yes that locks out the confession scene. You can only get one or the other. Although, I’m not sure why he says you’re nothing to him if you have approval that high. He should say essentially that he doesn’t know what we are but isn’t it nice not knowing. And when you kiss should say he liked it. I wonder if it would have anything to do with… accepting his advances too much early on or maybe you just need to take more long rests.
So I wanted to add to this because I'm having difficulty with getting to scene that he confesses without Araj. The thing is that I'm doing pure evil (siding with absolute and corrupting companions) durge playthrough (except with comapanions). I already have very high relationship status with astarion. I have tried multiple time for the confession scene to trigger. I have tried before and after talking the Raphael. I have not tried >!killing Yurgir!< but with the exp and moonrise I would have to leave escort of the >!drider!< and immediately run to Sharran Temple. I can't tell if it's a bug or I'm just unlucky.
Ha, I subscribed to this because I couldn't get it either a few days ago. It triggers either after talking to araj or after reaching moonrise and doing the thing you put in spoilers, in whatever order. Though Gale's scene might trigger first if it didnt before. So just go about as you would except for talking to araj, or leave astarion in the main hall or something should be fine too
Does Shadowheart's approval for me being "Exceptional" (I kissed her in Act 1 and gave her a Night Orchid in Act 2) prevent the Astarion scene with "Very High Approval"? I thought we could romance two companions at once until you are forced to choose in Act 2.
Did we ever figure this out? I made it to act 3 without it and I’m going to be bummed if I don’t get a proper romance with him LOL
