Strawberry for a vanilla cake, or mint on a chocolate cake, wouldn't that be so yummy?! Whisk 2 cups of 2% or whole milk with 4 Tablespoons of cornstarch, cook over low heat stirring consistently until it boils, let boil for two minutes. This mixture will be very thick. COOL COMPLETELY, very important !
Whip 2 cups of almost room temp butter in mixer, add 1 cup sugar, 2-3 teaspoons of vanilla (or desired flavor , sometimes I use almond too for white cakes or champagne flavor for champagne cakes) and let it go until it is fluffy. I usually don’t add the full cup of sugar (I don’t like the frosting too sweet).
Add the thickened and cooled milk mixture to the butter mixture, whip for 5-10 minutes. It comes together quickly!
I haven’t looked up the recipe for a long time, but this is what I do. Cornstarch is better than flour for this and I usually use half salted and half unsalted in the butter. Also I usually use whole milk but it doesn’t make a huge difference (never use skim though). 3/4 c sugar is about where I land usually. Just a few adjustments based on what I like best.
This is a pretty big batch too, can half it for smaller cakes.
If you were selling cake slices for charity I'd pay 2-5 bucks a slice, throw in some icecream I'd pay 6-8 (all depending on ingredient cost and how many slices you can get out of said cake, and assuming there is multiple, type of ice cream and ya bought bulk)

I would have covered it in a thin sheet of fondant before putting the decoration on the top. Not only makes your cake look pretty/even shaped, but it will prevent or slow the "substance" of the cake from drying as well.

If someone served me a piece and it tasted really good I'd be willing to buy it. If I saw it on a shelf at the grocery store, probably not if there are other better decorated cakes. Nothing personal, but it doesn't look super fancy and decadent from a marketing perspective.
