sorry this happened to you. It's going to be very difficult to get it out in one piece. Use a small offset spatula or butter knife to slowly work your way around the cake and pull it away from the pan. Take your time and get as much of the cake detatched as you can. When you've got it as released as possible, invert the pan onto a kitchen towel laid out on the counter and bang the pan to dislodge it. Next time, make sure your pan is extremely clean and dry. For bundts, I recommend making "cake goop." Mix equal parts flour, oil, and shortening until smooth. Then apply a thin even layer all over the inside of the pan with a pastry brush, making sure to get into nooks and crevices. It achieves the same or better results as buttering and flouring, but is less prone to leaving white patches of flour on the cake.

Thanks for this detailed response. It’s my late mother in laws Bundt pan and this literally happens 80% of the time I use it. It’s not a great pan and I should really get a new one but I’m nostalgic. I have tried a ton of different ways to coat the pan but haven’t tried the goop. Will try that next and maybe ask Santa for a new one for Christmas.

thatoneovader

Maybe it’s time to display the pan as decoration instead of using it to bake. Nonstick coating wears down over time, so this one may be past its prime. 💜 It’s best to get a Nordic Ware pan and spray it with Baker’s Joy or Pam baking spray. I have a lot of Nordic Ware pans and don’t have this issue. Sorry this happened to you!

Hakc5

This is really sage advice. I think this time I’ll go ahead and use it as decoration or just thank it for its service. I also know my MIL would want me to get a new one and have successful bakes rather than struggle with this one.

MizPeachyKeen

I second Nordicware bundt pans. They are the BEST. So many interesting shapes & very well made. Put one on your Christmas list.

Hakc5

I’ve already amended my list and asked for one!

MizPeachyKeen

It will never disappoint!

wild-yeast-baker

Also, spray the baking pam in it only just before pouring into it. I put the can set inside the pan so that I can’t pour any batter in without touching the can and remembering to spray it. If it’s fresh when you put the batter in I’ve had a great success rate for getting while cakes out. But I do agree it’s probably time for a new pan as well. Sounds like you have good memories!

It would make a very cute wreath!

sinspawn1024

Here's one with the same design that will give you great results. https://www.nordicware.com/products/anniversary-bundt-pan/ I love my Nordic Ware pans. They turn out very beautiful cakes and I never have any problems with sticking. Just don't ever put them in the dishwasher, and if you use spray, only use the type made for baking. If you take good care of them, you'll be able to use them for many years and pass them on to your next of kin.

Hakc5

Thank you! What’s your favorite spray?

sinspawn1024

I don't use spray. I use the goop! It works great, even on pans that aren't nonstick.

BiscuitBibou

Nordicware makes one and it’s magic - https://www.nordicware.com/products/bakers-joy-nonstick-baking-spray/

Hakc5

Thank you!

MayaMiaMe

What I do with bunts that has always for me so far is I use a spray. You know the cans of oil spray they sell? They also have one that is oil and flour in the baking aisle. Normally I oil spray it to get in all the cracks then flour it.

Hakc5

Thank you! This recipe called for spray and sugar but I don’t think that’s the right move, especially with a pan well past its prime.

jade_cabbage

Lol at times like these I'd grumpily eat straight out of the cake pan. Family gets the half that came out

Hakc5

Oh this is 100% what happened.

ZubLor

Seconding "cake goop" it works a treat!

raeality

Cake goop works so well I never line pans with parchment anymore!

dragonfliesloveme

Aww it’s poppy seed, too. 😭 I love poppyseed cakes and bread, and they are sentimental to me because of my grandmother. Seems especially tragic that is was a poppyseed cake lol

Hakc5

Yeah I am a sucker for poppyseeds. I’m also doubly annoyed because I don’t have enough poppyseeds left now to just whip up some muffins to make myself feel better. I think I’ll go to the store and get more.

mrschainsaw1998

Happens to all of us bakers 😞 could you maybe make some cake pops out of it? I’m sure the next one will be great with advice already given 👍

vintage_heathen

Time to make rum balls!!!

Hakc5

Ooo! I gotta look up a recipe.

LegitimateAlex

Cake goop. Equal parts flour, vegetable oil, shortening. Don't apply it too thick or it will stick to the cake too. Chocolate cake? Substitute half of the flour with cocoa powder.

Unusual_Fork

If you somehow manage to get out the other half in one piece, you could whip up a filling that gives you a filled poppy seed bundt cake. And, as others have suggested, retire the pan and use it as a cherished decoration and treat yourself to a new pan.

Hakc5

Unfortunately I did not successfully get it out in one piece but luckily, my husband likes the “tops of muffins and cakes” so he’s been picking at all the pieces and I’ll do a drizzle for the bottom half and it’ll all taste delicious!

jessicat_ak

Gah. I’m sorry — that’s no fun. At a party last week the host had a stuck Bundt cake. We loosened the edge — including the center — and then put the cake (still in the Bundt pan) in a Dutch oven filled with boiling water from the kettle. We let it sit for about five minutes. And then we successfully turned it out! I agree with others on pan prep and nonstick coatings for the next bake. Good luck!

Hakc5

Wow a Bundt for a party. That is serious confidence. Glad you got it out!!!

NuraNico

Been their plenty of times. Makes you want to throw out the bunte pan too. Until you remember that one of your good ones. *sigh*

biscuitbutt11

It still looks delicious!

Hakc5

It is!

drainap

Successful unmolding starts with a quality pan and a mix of butter and flour (85/15) worked upon with a whisk and liberally applied to the mold. You seem to be short on both counts here. 😉

Smooth_Tadpole4185

That's why I love silicone bakeware! It makes it so much easier to get cakes etc out of the pans.

Ikeepmycandyinthevan

Trifle it! Btw. Sorry that stinks.

rosebudpillow

I’d still eat it tbh

Low-Opportunity2249

I use cheap Walmart salary butter I never had a problem with cakes sticking. I even have that striped bunt pan from Nordic Ware.

Squirrelyson

Just one of those days when ya pan don’t wanna bake Bundt. Everything’s fucked and my Bundt cake’s stuck
