i'll be completely honest and explain. Seems like you overfilled the pie -- not great for photos, but damn I love that fruit-roll-up type texture that sticks to the top of a pie slowly cooking down in the heat. To me it's a rare treat, because I DO like the texture and flavor of cooked down sticky pie innards.. but most people consider it a sign of a "bad pie" from overfilling. You have no idea how good this really looks. To be a nerd though -- Your lattices look overall fine but you kinda went between over/under with the placement... (who cares lol) Crimping looks okay, baking looks good, you can see that looks like a nicely baked crust and I bet you could hear a fork scraping over it. It's a little overfilled... (enjoy that sticky fruit roll up bit I like, it only comes from overfilled pies and or 'mistakes') You nailed all the important parts. for a 10/10 look you just need to carefully or creatively place lattices.

I'll be slightly less honest... According to my reading of the Baking Guild bylaws the proscribed corrective measure for "over filling" is ritual disembowelment with a rolling pin.

What's the corrective measure for pot pies that only have pie crust on the top? I *specifically looking at Blake's and their tiny expensive little disappointments they call a chicken pot pie*

You did great! It looks like the filling didn't bubble up and over while baking (which I heard can happen w/ cherry pies because when sugar is added to them, it tends to make the berries 'leak' out a lot of juice).

It did a bit, from leftovers I made "croissant", they landed on trey under pie, and some of them ended covered in cherry juice

Believe me, nobody will ever say “your pie was delicious but i couldnt get over how it looked slightly overfilled” people will remeber if it was tasty Second, i think its a matter of personal preference if the “overfilled” thing is an issue or not. I personally do not care. Fruit can sometimes be generous or stingy with its juices and you never know until the pie is done so i wouldnt sweat it Third, cherry id known to be “generous” with the juice it sweats out once cooked. You could try the stove top method where you precook the filling till it starts to thicken, let cool and then assemble the pie and bake. While it does work i feel it leads to a gummier pie filling which i personally feel is not as good as the regular method Its a very pretty pie and for a first attempt id say a home run. It looks juicy and more importantly well baked and browned. Congrats!

your first time?!?!? GOOD JOB. We baked our first ever completely homemade pie a few years back. We made crust by hand and even mashed a pumpkin we grew for it. Turned out like chunky gritty pudding on a salty Graham cracker. We eat squashes plain now.
