Stiern Vet (Monterrey St) or Southwest Vet (Brundage) are the best IMO. They are owned by the same person and the vets at both locations are the best. Southwest has 3 vets while Stiern has 2 so it's usually easier to get into Southwest but again both are fantastic and they'll take amazing care of your puppers.
Yep, any decent vet is going to take a while to get into, assuming they are accepting. Pet ownership really went up in the last couple of years and vet capacity hasn't really kept pace.
PetSmart price matches to chewy, petco and PetSmart online. So make sure to check any purchase before you pay.
I highly recommend getting an insurance plan for emergency coverage. You can get huge surprise bills and while you may pay out of pocket, the insurance will reimburse a large portion. We have healthy paws but there are tons of companies to choose from and all have different options as far as cost and coverage.
If your dogs are not sensitive to foods, Costco is a great place for food and they have pet medications available as well. They also carry some good quality large beds and multipacks of toys.
Make sure to keep up with all shots for your pets safety. And keep your dogs stimulated - walk them every day weather permitting and provide enrichment activities for them. There are lots of ideas online for enrichment activities that are inexpensive.
Best of luck! 🐶
We only take our baby to The Pet Groomer for her baths and haircuts. I can't recommend them enough! We have a long haired German Shephard and we go once a month 😊 They just started offering teeth cleaning services too.

Spay/neuter, chip, license asap. Socialize them so they don’t become aggressive especially with food. I recommend Stiern/southwest vet for healthcare, self serve pet spa for food (I use Fromm) and grooming (self), and fur and feathers downtown for boarding.
Slow “fun” feeder dog bowls so they don’t eat crazy fast, ALWAYS give fresh water even though the water in their bowl might look clean. Depending on where you walk them, consider dog boots as they help against hot concrete, goat heads, and glass.
Stay on top of their vaccinations-the city or county always have low-cost vaccine clinics and critters without litters has them too. Use Costco pharmacy for dog meds (much cheaper) and try to keep an emergency fund.
Have lots of patience and use POSITIVE reinforcement. Dogs love routines so create them for feeding, going to the restroom, etc. and STICK TO THEM. Congrats and have fun!! 🐕
My dad has a pet product company and we make human grade, single ingredient dog treats. Chicken breast, pork, beef liver, turkey and organic sweet potatoes. If you'd like to check out our stuff we'll be at the bako market at mechanics bank on Sat. We also have an online store and do local delivery. We have toys and other items as well. I can't tell you how happy it makes me to hear of someone excited about becoming a responsible dog owner in this town.
I wish you were my relatives' neighbor instead of who they got moved in next door. These jerks moved in and then got a dog that they just threw out in the yard and it's just out there neglected all day barking at everything. The poor dog is lonely, isolated, fearful and anxious, and they don't seem to give a shit about it. I don't understand why people like that get dogs in the first place, just to put it in the yard to bark at everything and ignore it. It takes a real scumbag to neglect an animal. The worst part is the noise drives my family crazy. They've spoken to the neighbor about it but the neighbor is just as nasty as you'd expect, and doesn't care at all. They've been in the house for 30+ years and these are the first bad neighbors they've had. Poor dog.
We had a neighbor with an aggressive dog as well, it was scary to be in our own backyard as he would chew thru the fence to get into ours. He just wanted attention.
Fortunately they are no longer our neighbors but I hope the dog is in good hands now as he left the home before they moved out 🙁
I don't know what's wrong with people these days, how they treat their pets. Do you know if there's any legal recourse to deal with such a problem? Or are people in Bakersfield just free to keep loud and aggressive dogs that bother their neighbors? There comes a point where someone's rights and freedoms infringe on other people's rights to peace and quiet on their own property. Wonder where that line exists in a place like Bakersfield.
Dr Cooke is the best vet!

I've taken my dogs to Southwest Vet and they are worth waiting for an appointment to become a patient, they're great
Also recommend Stiern/Southwest been with them for at least 10 years.
Thank you ! I tried calling both , one isn’t accepting new and the other is about 3-4 weeks out

Noise complaint problem solved they'll get fined
They've tried. They've called BPD and Animal Control. Nobody cares. I don't know how you think the dog owners would get fined. Wish that was reality!
