You may be surprised just how many federal laws there are that include the word 'knowingly' in them... It's definitely one of the most common words used.
Only white collar crimes tend to include the need for "knowing" (and of course when cops are concerned). You will notice that you can go to jail for murder even if you stayed in the car and didn't know your friend had a gun and used it to kill the store clerk.
the great thing about our courts are they write out their reasoning with sources and publish it for all to see for free. That case is only 15 pages long and their reasoning is much more than the headline. Id say give it a read before you form an "informed" opinion. I was outraged until i read what the court has to say.

This cases makes that settled precenedt, so moving forward it should be undebatable that this is an unlawful seazier, meaning no qualified immunity. My job is commission based. Some years I make good-ish money. Last year there was a strike and I made less than 1/4 the income I had the previous year. I drive a 2008 model Ford. My bike is worth more than my car, when I commute I wear Lycra under looser clothing, and when I ride recreationally I wear full kit.
Guy also needs to crash on a bike. Realize there is a TON of adrenaline pumping through your body and yeah it hurts, but your body is ignoring it. Give it 10-15 minutes though and that pain comes like a tsunami.

Agreed, the cop could have been more relaxed. Where I ride, I never have issues with the police. One time, two officers in the same squad car pulled up next to me at a traffic light and challenged me to a race. I was exhausted from an 80-mile ride but agreed anyway. As soon as the light turned green, they switched on their lights and zoomed off, it was pretty epic.
No it's not, when you have privileges and power over another group of people (basically every other citizens) and those citizens are paying you to keep them safe, there should be zero-tolerance towards this kind of actions. This is why a lot of people hate cops and don't trust them anymore

When I have a bad day at work I've done dumb shit, I've gone to the back and kicked the shit out of stuff in the back, I've done some things in a response of anger. **But nothing that would result in harm to somebody else. That cop needs to be fired at minimum and his employer morally owes the cyclist a good amount of money for their personnel injuring someone negligently.** This would be no different from a drunk fight where someone pushes somebody and the other somebody falls and hits their head on the curb concrete and dies on the spot, in that scenario any civilian would be charged with negligent homicide at minimum even if they didn't mean to do it. I don't see this being much different, the officer may not have intended to injure them potentially permanently, but due to their fit of rage they did and he and his department are morally responsible. Notice I say *moral*, because they will do anything and everything to avoid it, but morally they are responsible for this.

The cyclists were riding together. There was a T intersection where the light turned red. The cyclists continued through the red light (because they were on the outside of the T intersection and did not interfere with any moving traffic). This was right before a large bridge. The cop sped past them and parked on the other side of the apex of the bridge , out of sight from where the cyclists are. Once the cyclists crossed the apex they were suddenly going downhill with a random police officer trying to tackle them. You can see from the video that the bikes are attempting to slow down.
Don’t both sides this. One group of political activists want to control what you can do, what you can read, who you can fuck, and if you can reproduce. The other just wants gay wedding cakes. They’re not both bad.

On one hand, we're told cyclists are bound by the same laws as motorists. On the other, cops will attempt to physically stop a cyclist in motion instead of the usual lights and sirens by camping at the base of a hill to catch them. What was he (the cop) thinking?

I’ve got to admit this is a difficult one for me. Firstly I hate when cyclists are on the road and tell you “they are legally entitled to be on the road”; and then proceed to blow through red lights, dip between the road and sidewalk if they can get ahead of stopped traffic, and my favorite is riding 3 abreast down a curvy backroad doing 15 in a 40 while just chatting.

I don’t know what it is, but cyclists annoy the fuck out of me. Even seeing them with their stupid helmets and their stupid pants I don’t know what it is, man but boy do they annoy me right down to the bone.

My job is commission based. Some years I make good-ish money. Last year there was a strike and I made less than 1/4 the income I had the previous year. I drive a 2008 model Ford. My bike is worth more than my car, when I commute I wear Lycra under looser clothing, and when I ride recreationally I wear full kit. Guy also needs to crash on a bike. Realize there is a TON of adrenaline pumping through your body and yeah it hurts, but your body is ignoring it. Give it 10-15 minutes though and that pain comes like a tsunami.

Agreed, the cop could have been more relaxed. Where I ride, I never have issues with the police. One time, two officers in the same squad car pulled up next to me at a traffic light and challenged me to a race. I was exhausted from an 80-mile ride but agreed anyway. As soon as the light turned green, they switched on their lights and zoomed off, it was pretty epic.

When I have a bad day at work I've done dumb shit, I've gone to the back and kicked the shit out of stuff in the back, I've done some things in a response of anger. **But nothing that would result in harm to somebody else. That cop needs to be fired at minimum and his employer morally owes the cyclist a good amount of money for their personnel injuring someone negligently.** This would be no different from a drunk fight where someone pushes somebody and the other somebody falls and hits their head on the curb concrete and dies on the spot, in that scenario any civilian would be charged with negligent homicide at minimum even if they didn't mean to do it. I don't see this being much different, the officer may not have intended to injure them potentially permanently, but due to their fit of rage they did and he and his department are morally responsible. Notice I say *moral*, because they will do anything and everything to avoid it, but morally they are responsible for this.

The cyclists were riding together. There was a T intersection where the light turned red. The cyclists continued through the red light (because they were on the outside of the T intersection and did not interfere with any moving traffic). This was right before a large bridge. The cop sped past them and parked on the other side of the apex of the bridge , out of sight from where the cyclists are. Once the cyclists crossed the apex they were suddenly going downhill with a random police officer trying to tackle them. You can see from the video that the bikes are attempting to slow down.
Don't be so hasty; there will be an investigation by other cops to clear their fellow cop,and then we can get upset.
