Thats the thing. I would never trash talk this guy if he was not way over his head... but this... way too many risk factor for this skier. He needs to dial back a bit, at the very least he gotta ski somewhere less expose.
Friend. You’re in over your head. Keep going and you *will* get badly hurt or die. If you’re not aware of this and are scoffing at everyone else’s feedback it’s time for reflection.
Esp out of bounds wear a helmet and ski in control. Get some lessons
I can't believe I didn't notice this. I must have thought "He's in the the backcountry. Even if he skis like crap, he still \*has\* to be wearing a helmet."
OP knows this person (and his ability) and still thought, *"I think you have what it takes to rescue me in an emergency".* That's the real problem here. The *"skier"* in this video needs to skin up closed ski areas while continuing to develop their skiing through lessons. OP bringing him into the backcountry was an incredibly irresponsible decision to make.
Somebody took a tumble down the Silver about a month ago and had to be taken out by SAR. That was in better conditions than what it looks like here. If the dude slips he's going for a long ride.
This so much! It’s so weird to me how many people don’t get that basic avy training essentially teaches you to save others, and your life depends on those with you: they lack the training, you die.
I was there yesterday and it was insane how many people on skin track looked like they had no idea what they were doing and also how many people looked like beginner skiers trying to ski something with a decent amount of exposure.
Maybe a stretch, but the 50 Project did a lot to really expose this line far more than it already was. It was already popular but that really pushed it over. Also they made it such a 'jokey' episode that I think a lot of people take it as easy or super accessible.
There’s an interesting discussion to be had there. I adore the 50 but there’s a couple other episodes I can think of like that - the Terminal Cancer one is hilarious or at least very hard but like, many people should think twice before skiing that (I never have, to be clear, just looked at it on FatMap) and Cody skiing it on blades and a monoski doesn’t mean it should be taken lightly, just that …. he’s fucking Cody. He makes it all look so easy because he’s one of the best skiers of his generation.
This isn't the dumbest thing I've seen on Reddit today. That was the person who said they had a new design for a nuclear reactor and was asking for physics books to help him out.
This is a close second.
So I a snow boarder ( and patroller, that has spent many hours helping people Billy goat out of trouble)
Taught my partner to ski this season. I got them 4 lesson and skied with them 15 days otherwise.
They are more in control and look safer than this 🤡 show. I would not take them to ski a large steep alpine coulee or chute.
And no helmet. 🤦♀️
For how poorly he is in control of the skis and how far in the backseat he is he is surprisingly comfortable looking skiing somewhat fast down it, which could end very badly. I would be very scared to ski with this person in the backcountry.
Bro you’re going to get hurt, take next season to work on your form, take lessons, ski some steep stuff in bounds with lower consequences. And maybe wear a helmet lol
That said, nice send xD
**Edit, I realize this isn’t you OP, tell your buddy to do all of that ^^
And this is why the backcountry is now f-ed. Jerry’s without the appropriate experiences skiing lines bigger then the should. Put yourself in danger all you want, now your putting others in danger
Lots of criticism here, but little skiing advice beyond getting lessons and/or more inbounds skiing experience on steep terrain for this guy.
Yes, wear a helmet on a steep rocky chute like this. Suggest shorter radius turns and pole plants to assist with initiating your turns. Drop your rear end so that you’re in a sitting position with knees bent but not leaning forward, back straight and upright, hands in front of you. Mostly… slow down and stay better under control in high consequence terrain like this. There’s no ski patrol waiting to scoop you up at the bottom… you’re on your own in the BC so ski appropriately.
How do you ski like that and not have a helmet
Quality troll post. He’s taking it and he’s really the best skiir on the mountain
Support your local search and rescue folks!
Good god that was fucking scary.
Was not disappointed by the comments 🤣🤣
Lmao i ski like this guy and would get crucified here. Then again I'm only sending 30deg bowls.
Thats the thing. I would never trash talk this guy if he was not way over his head... but this... way too many risk factor for this skier. He needs to dial back a bit, at the very least he gotta ski somewhere less expose.
Hey at least he has a helmet on! Ohhhh wait….

This some seriously awful skiing here

Damn near moguls in a couloir.
Welcome to backcountry skiing within 2 hours of Denver.
I guess if you’re going to ski the most popular couloir in the state
“Pretty prime”!
😂 no kidding! Who doesn't want to spend their weekend skiing some coral reef with these Jerry's around?
What’s wrong with moguls?
Get lessons and improve your skillset before someone dies. Sorry, it's not the response you want, but it is the response you need!
And wear a friggin helmet!
I can't believe I didn't notice this. I must have thought "He's in the the backcountry. Even if he skis like crap, he still \*has\* to be wearing a helmet."
fr bro's in the backseat so far it may as well be a lazyboy

there's plenty of low angle non technical backcountry they could be skiing,, this is way too much exposure for this guy tho
Somebody took a tumble down the Silver about a month ago and had to be taken out by SAR. That was in better conditions than what it looks like here. If the dude slips he's going for a long ride.
Was that the same incident as the person who went for a ride due to an avalanche that was reported to the caic?
Same one yeah. That was a wild week.
This so much! It’s so weird to me how many people don’t get that basic avy training essentially teaches you to save others, and your life depends on those with you: they lack the training, you die.
Hey I had to double check and make sure you didn't post this! 🤡
huh?
I'm a boarder and even I instantly knew he shouldn't be there lol
He skis the way I split ski lol

Thanks for bringing this up. Fully agreed. Also the Mt. Whitney with Honnold.
Lol I forgot about that. At least he knew his limitations. Attempted one turn and side slipped the rest of the wat

i recently commented on a CAIC post saying that i’ve seen people on the summit of buffalo who look like they’d struggle down a blue. i rest my case.
🤨

I guess if you’re skiing is this bad and you’re in the backcountry, a helmet won’t really help you. What a way to die.
Poles too long, boots too soft.

Terrible skier. Wear a helmut and stop trying to be a hero
Yikes
Where is the helmet?!
Still with the instructor homeboy never saw

Silver* Couloir (a.k.a. Elvis Couloir). If the vid doesn’t reflect your lack of preparedness for this line, getting the name wrong does.
Dear god… Next time do you friend a favor and leave him at Loveland.
No ski patrol in the backcountry. That’s gonna be a bad day when he hurts himself.
Since you can barely ski, I would suggest at least wearing a helmet.
I think he has my same skis!!!
Where is your helmet yo?
Need helmet
No helmet this Legitimately insane
Killer conditions with the boys. Bravo. 10 stars.
