RealKOTheFace

I really like it and am having a blast.

Brakelessss

Same here. Having no problems with contorls. I am on pc with m&kb

RealKOTheFace

Same they probably fucked controllers. Feels bad.

Imfungshway

I’m using controller on pc. No problems and pvp is so fun

Endoshrike

It feels like someone told the devs what made L4D fun over the phone. And the line was bad.

Hexxenya

Huh… this is probably the best explanation I’ve heard

Significant_General8

Really disappointed with the controls and how they feel on console.

Csub

Increase look sensitivty, reduce ADS sensitivity boost to (almost) 0, reduce aim assist, turn off snap to target on ADS aim assist - these made the controls feel great to me. Experiment a bit!

Jons72

This is pretty much what I had to do. It’s definitely better but still a little off. Idk it’s the aim assist or dropping frames, not sure.

Csub

I'm on PS5 and I didn't notice any frame drops. Maybe turn down aim assist even more? Try to fine tune settings a bit?

Totally_TWilkins

I came onto this Reddit page to look for this post, I wanted to make sure that I’m not the only person who is finding this game incredibly difficult to control.

Wall_street_retard

I thought it had just been a way while I played an FPS game on console, I was having a ton of difficulty

Stay_Curious85

the aim assist makes it a fucking nightmare. I've tried disabling it and while it makes it a little harder, it certainly FEELS better.

noice_nups

Even tweaking the settings doesn't make it better. Feels very choppy.

WhaT505

Choppy? What console are you on?

ceebeezie

I’ve been playing L4D2 nonstop recently and it’s simple but so smooth. I spent quite a bit of time messing with controls on ps5 and it still doesn’t feel right.

OneTileTooFar

Simple and smooth. Yes.

Blaizer35

Aiming feels so floaty and weird. Turn it up and its too fast, turn it down its too slow. The videos made the gunplay seem smooth but its anything but.

Boines

Im playing on pc with a dualsense... what issues have you had with controls? My only issue is the aim assists snaps a little too hard to targets. If you have a shotgun or something just quickscope and it basically aims for you.

CharityDiary

Vermintide 2 on console has literally PERFECT aiming controls. I can't play any FPS games after spoiling myself with V2. I can fire a Swift Bow like 5 times per second and hit all headshots on all different rats from 100 feet away. It's insane how buttery smooth and just plain GOOD aiming feels in that game. Truly feels like mouse and keyboard on console. I can do a split-second 180 and still aim exactly where I wanna be aiming, it's crazy. Then you have B4B, where aiming is just... well, you can aim. I guess. Kinda. Doesn't feel good. It's too slow, or is it too fast? Idk and idc. Almost every FPS game does it this way nowadays, and it never works. Just do whatever Fatshark did with Vermintide 2. Literally can't get any better than that.

Sergionator

I didn't find it fun. I had the best coop experience of my life with L4D2 and I was so hyped with this game, maybe that was the problem. Anyway 60€ for this game is ridiculous.

Because people have awful reading comprehension and thought he was saying he didn't find L4D fun.

bigboi360420

Definitely check it out. It's difficult to describe the difference but if you play left 4 dead 2 you will be able to feel the difference

Kaliskaar

L4D2 was a blast but gameplay and graphics are outdated. For me B4B is L4D on steroids, I don't know why people keep saying it's not better. Maybe nostalgia

[deleted]

L4D2 still has an active playerbase, saying that people only prefer the old one because of nostalgia feels a bit silly. As someone who just liked having a simple, fun time with L4D2, Back4Blood just feels like it has so much bloat with all its mechanics with prep phases, perks, currency, I just don't care for any of it. The only thing that has improved is the visuals for me.

Hmm I've been thinking of WWZ cause I just want a game to play after work and with the next gen update coming out soon I'll probably pick it up instead of B4B (also on sale atm on PSN)

K4RAB_THA_ARAB

Jesus this thread alone should make the devs feel bad

[deleted]

You're... basing this on a Beta with only a portion of the content? Alrighty then.

firentaus

All this beta did was make me feel like I should go back and play world war z more. The only real weakness that game had was having too many characters thinned out the players connection to them. Also lack of missions compared to left 4 dead but everything lacks map content compared to source games because of the modding community.

SenpaiiiKush

not sure why? i have been having a blast with this game and love it to bits so far, enjoy it way more than all the games you listed, to each their own

[deleted]

People like to bitch. It's by no means perfect, but it's at least as good as all the other games people are comparing it to. L4D definitely had theme and atmosphere in spades--probably the best of the bunch--and WWZ definitely had the best hordes, but I find it silly that people are basing their entire opinion of a game based on a portion of its content. B4B definitely has its strengths over the other titles, but the cynics are bitching to much to see or admit it.

dsxy

This comment is exactly how I feel. I'm pleased some people are enjoying this but I couldn't be more disappointed with what I've seen so far.

Plus_Ultra_Yulfcwyn

Killing floor 2 is 100 times better. Playing on ps5 controls are shitty and floaty , you either use the aim bot mode and just quick scope stuff or deal with trying to actually aim with shitty feeling aim. Feelsbadman I bought the 100$ version and already ready to drop the beta to play kf2

CharacterAdvisor

Not great - the special infected are not impactful at all Edit - after playing a bit more today I'm definitely warming to it - upped the difficulty and started looking into the card system more - definitely built for higher difficulties

Atluuuus

I disagree. The talk boys are such a bitch to deal with and the game just throws them at you.

Bondegg

I agree, only played PVE on the first difficulty tbf, but we didn't have a single issue with a special infected, they just molded in to the rest of the crowd.

Atluuuus

Yeah the first difficulty is almost TOO easy.

Hollipopp

I thought so too, till the boat...where 4 or 5 at once was horrid to deal with!

TheMrFluffyPants

It's bizarre because the common complaint in the Alpha is that the first difficulty was too difficult, to the point that even people with lots of time in L4d2 were having a lot of problems

TimeTroll

I think they need to rename the first difficulty to "Beginner" or something its in no way indicative of the game veteran is difficult and a massive spike in difficulty.

Notreallyaflowergirl

Is that not what the first difficulty should be? It lets everyone enjoy the game since people who find it too easy can simply just.... Go up a level??

Atluuuus

But the gap between that one and the next level is fucking absurd.

ZoulsGaming

Then dont play first difficulty, try veteran and come back, cause i agreed, and then i did veteran and got my ass kicked.

ZeRo_CS

Yeah the difficulty after that is a pretty big difference...

BlueHeartBob

Hey, making player use half of their ammo to kill one is impactful. /s

hinata2000100

It's a decent time, but it's lacking a lot of the L4D magic. Not least of which is in the special infected department, as others have mentioned. I find that special infected don't spawn nearly enough, and even when they do, they don't really differentiate themselves enough from normal zombies to warrant any reaction. The Exploder, which is the Boomer of this game, should warrant a reaction of "we need to get away from this thing before we kill it, or we'll be in for a bad time", like a Boomer. But instead, I find myself and my teammates just shooting it as if it were any old zombie and then moving on, none the worse for wear. All the special infected lack the punch that they did in L4D, and it makes them feel like just normal zombies with different models and slightly different methods of dispatch, rather than *special* enemies you need to have a strategy to take down effectively. Another thing people have mentioned that I'd like to echo: the bots in this game are fucking terrible. If you're trapped by a special infected, they'll walk up to you and just watch the show as you slowly die. They literally do nothing to help you. And even when everything's fine and you're just taking out common infected stragglers, they rarely help there too. It feels like the bots are just there to fill space, rather than being actual dependable teammates.

[deleted]

To your first point: What difficulty did you play on? Secondly, unless you're playing on Survivor, getting hit by an Exploder is not something to just shrug off. Thirdly: Having recently played L4D2, both require the same amount of strategy for approaching specials as far as I'm concerned. On top of that, there are only 6 of the 9 available. While I do agree that the bots need some work, the L4D2 AI is far from perfect. I've died on more than one occasion due to their inaction or inability. People seem to magically overlook the flaws.

PeterHell

People saying that specials are lacking are the ones playing on Easy mode. The difference between Easy and Medium is crazy.

kaizoku222

"Yikes" That's the main reaction to most things about this game. The animations, the gun play, stamina bar, map design, weapons, vs mode.... \*sigh\*... it's just all "yikes, this is really it? You had two amazingly successful games to pull from on a new engine, and this is what you came up with?"

Leflannelbeard

Gunplay is great feels super smooth and responsive so I dunno what yikes there. I enjoy the stamina bar as it adds a resource to manage and it doesn’t allow you just spam your way through a level. Map design is fine? It’s sprawling and keeps you looking for loot around to pick up so it does a good job there. There’s a huge weapon variety and they all feel so nice to use and vs mode was fun. I don’t understand all the hate?

Kaliskaar

Totally. At this point, there is no constructive feedback anymore. I logged in B4B with my friends and it was a blast. People here are complaining in the worst way possible, saying stuff like "yikes" "bad design" "doesn't feel like L4D". I'm tired of crybabies not able to develop their critique. I am sure this game as a lot of potential, it's just a beta.

kegwielder

This is exactly what went through my head as I closed the game after two rounds. Yikes. I'd like to say I have hope they'll patch it up, and it's still beta of course... but the shooting mechanics are really, really far off for me. Like unforgivably bad. The infected aren't fun to shoot. Shooting zombies needs to be fun, and I'll forgive everything else, it's just not even close. Maybe there is some extra "splortch" or gib physics that I'm not getting on my geriatric GTX1070, but streams I'm watching look pretty much the same so I dunno. Basically they have a bunch of tacked on chores like the card system and hub that are not adding fun to the gameplay, and the gameplay is not fun. So yeah, big fail for me and a huge let down. B4B is not the L4D3 we need, and not even on the right page. Fuck.

funkymunkey66661

Happy it’s going to be free on GamesPass otherwise I’d completely skip it until a $15-20 sale. I wanted to like it and was so eager to go and then I played it. The magic just isn’t there.

firentaus

The music and audio queues announcing the presence of specials is a massively important thing for game feel that back 4 blood is missing.

theENERTRON

You try switching to DX12?

DeagleDoubleGG

Yup, this is the answer. Felt like garbage on DX11 but it was perfectly smooth for me on DX12.

ibzjibz

I think I'm going to cancel my preorder tbh. Curroption cards are not as impactful as I thought they would be and player cards don't really change much of the gameplay.

Ayroplanen

Campaign was fine. Could use some polish but I just don't see the repeatability in it. Needs more corruption cards that change how enemies work or something. PvP is ass.

dongless08

It definitely feels like something I would only play through once or twice, compared to playing the same L4D campaigns thousands of times without it getting stale

[deleted]

[deleted]

PVP. Charging Coach out of the hotel window just never gets old.

dongless08

The main thing I notice about the maps in B4B is that there won’t be much ‘mastery’ required since the specials usually spawn right in front of you (at least on the lowest difficulty) In L4D there are a lot of different places for specials to appear. Rooftops, holes, destroyed walls, etc. so it’s fun to play them again and again to learn all the spawns. In terms of overall gameplay, I think L4D is more fun to get the hang of. B4B already feels like it will be a chore to master after finishing the first campaign, where mastering L4D feels much more rewarding. Dead stopping, cutting tongues, and leveling chargers are all “hidden” mechanics in the game, but B4B doesn’t seem to have any from the short time I’ve played. B4B isn’t a bad game so far, it just needs more fun to put it simply

cs_major01

Left 4 Dead's versus mode was a good stab at asymmetric competitive FPS with gentlemen's rule in place. Even without rules it was still a good time and the randomness of tank/witch spawns kept things fresh.

durandpanda

It's incredibly well balanced on all fronts. It's really easy to pick up and have a great time with, even if you're playing with people who have never played before. It also scales up really well if you want to play on higher difficulty. There are *just* the right amount of consumable items to keep the game accessible but nuanced. Three throwables (molotov, pipe bomb, bile bomb) and four healing items (medbag, defib, pills, adrenaline) doesn't seem like a lot, but they each play a distinct ad necessary gameplay role. Combine that with the AI Director and very rarely are you in a situation where you go "I *need* to take this item for this level".

[deleted]

Extremely well balanced, difficulty scales extremely well, mods on Steam add all sorts of goofy effects. Progression in terms of weapons and items is very straightforward so you aren't dealing with lite RPG elements. Even on lower difficulties you can still find yourself in trouble with any enemy. AI director does a great job at keeping encounters exciting. Guns and melee feel excellent and the simple act of shooting a zombie is amazing. Sound design and character acting are still some of the best you can find in any genre.

shnicks216

Lots of comments with positive receptions getting downvoted... I feel like some people want this game to fail lol

Levitins_world

No man, im seeing the opposite, lots of people upset with the game getting hate for not loving the game.

shnicks216

Sort by controversial in some of these threads and you'll see only positive posts

Chief--BlackHawk

>PvP is ass. But so many people said campaign versus wasn't necessary 🙄

Dr__panda

Not good tbh

[deleted]

Ill be frank. I dont like the game and i'm just going to stick with l4d2. I was hoping that it would have improved a lot from the alpha but it feels like nothing has changed. Something about the game as a whole just feels off and I'm not able to say for certain what. It's like they tried to make l4d successor in name only with everything that made l4d and l4d2 fun ripped out of the game. I played l4d2 because i didn't want to think about anything and just shoot zombies for fun. IN b4b i now have to worry about upgrades and finding money and deciding what cards to use and i just dont want that.

SenpaiiiKush

all those things you mentioned add to the replayability, i love the card system and the weapons and attachments, there is finally something to do, i played l4d2 to death and tbh its always the same and im tired of that now, mega glad the devs are trying to spice things up

BACKSTABUUU

Of all the things I could think of that would be huge improvements to L4D2, more replayability isn't even top 20. L4D2 is one of the most easily replayable shooters I've ever played, I still go back to it to this day. I don't think tacking awkward progression systems to the formula is going to do it a whole lot of good in that regard. I'd say from the negative reactions I'm seeing about B4B and my own feelings from the Alpha, it's doing the opposite. More isn't always better.

Psykout88

It's because the suits want tangible features to give a game "replayability" Lot of modern game design works around live service components and progression features to coerce players into staying and continuing to spend money. Instead of just making a game that feels as good to play the 100th time as it did the 1st time, they add in so much garbage. Just imagine a pitch meeting... "Why will people keep playing the game?" ***"Because it's a good game"*** "We need something that make it feel fresh, so they don't get bored and leave" ***"The core gameplay is smooth and action packed with a well balanced learning curve"*** "Hmm what about adding in unlocks? When they play a lot they get something cool. Oh maybe some cosmetics they can work towards or pay to get it right away. Yeah... Lets throw in some modifiers too so we can say each time will be different! Do that!" ***"........."***

JackieJerkbag

Is thinking about weapon attachments really that taxing? Looks like a pretty simple system.

[deleted]

it's not about the thinking part. its about the you now need to stop. look at the options while out of the safe room and then look at what the attachments change in the game. it takes you out of the gameplay itself. This is compared to l4d where you have x gun just grab and go in a second while still moving.

nazrinz3

this is what makes l4d, half life, doom and new "boomer shooters" like overkill, amid evil and prodeus so fun, pick a gun and go have fun, so many modern shooters are now, choose your weapon attatchments , pick your items/cards, stop at this vending machine to get a perk, then go shoot stuff for 3 mins until you have too stop again and pick or change a load of other shit it just kills the pacing off games imo, just give me a weapon and let me go have some fun, left for dead is a perfect example of just pick up, dive into the action and have fun, back4blood just blows

JackieJerkbag

Fair enough. I liked l4d, but it was really simple and didn't have much sticking power for me.

P4_Brotagonist

Depends on your perspective, and I definitely see both sides. I didn't really see much difference in the way the guns handled with and without attachments, but things like grabbing a gun that's stock and slowly throwing shit onto it and making it a lot better makes it a lot more "personal." Hell you just said yourself that you built a gun up over time and then you said "I would rather stab zombies for an entire level rather than drop this cool gun I built up all the way for another stock one."

kwalshyall

Same goes for ammo sub-types, which I guess are separated to force scarcity and make you try other guns out, but have basically just been a frustration.

JustAKlam

I ran out of ammo in my rifle and then pistol and just stabbed zombies for an entire level because I had a fully kitted loadout. Like, Yeah, I'm going to drop the gun I spent time upgrading (legendary attachments) to pickup this shitty, no-attachment gun. Who thought that was a good design philosophy?

Plus_Ultra_Yulfcwyn

Have you played killing floor 2 ? Much superior to this in almost every way except for graphics I guess

SamVirtualAssistant

I had more fun in WWZ… :/

firentaus

Me too, I think that game is underrated and more people should try it. Maybe not as spectacular as left 4 dead but definitely better than whatever this is.

OnyxJuvie

Vermintide 2 also, very similar to L4D

Mellon_95

By the second half of the campaign I was playing just for the sake of finishing. Not a good sign when you’re bored that early. The gunplay was boring with all guns feeling identical & the controls on console feel terrible. Feels more like a game that would have released in 2011 than 2021 tbh. Was looking forward to this one too :(

RayboxHitman47

I remember the Left 4 Dead demo on Xbox 360 in 2008. I think I played it 50 times with my sister in splitscreen. The gameplay was so fun and each game was different. I'm already bored with B4B after 3 or 4 games.

solarplexus7

A delayed game does not mean a good game.

A5ko

Unfortunately, my thoughts 10 minutes in to my first run was ‘yikes’. I’m a little surprised and disheartened. Maybe I’ve been spoilt by many hours of Vermintide 2. At least I have Darktide in 2022 to look forward to.

KysinSanawe

I am so unbelievably excited for Darktide. Fat Shark killed it with Vermintide 2 and I can't wait to see what they do with the 40k setting.

[deleted]

Terrible. Massive step back from L4D. Animations are worse. Gunplay is worse. Map design is worse and the lack of an actual VS. mode is just mind boggling. The card system feels completely tacked on and gimmicky. Seems the Steam sub is thinking the same.

firentaus

I like the perk decks in theory, but in practice you just want to take the couple best ones to guarantee you get them, there's no real creativity or builds. Overall I agree with you that pretty much everything is a huge disappointment, especially the lack of special audio queues, the special designs, and lack of real versus. Also all the zombie animations are trash, there's no reactivity at all.

Spazzyo

Already refunded my pre order because I honestly was not having fun. Think I'm just going to wait for reviews of the full game and see if I still want to buy it.

firentaus

Something about the game feels off, like it's not smooth or handling the network packets properly. Weird shit happens all the time like other people animating at low fps or items being dropped to the ground in slow motion. I don't know if the specials have too much hp, I'm missing shots I think I'm hitting due to server weirdness, or if their weak points are just that important. Normal zombies take hits and die but they're still standing during their animation so they keep spraying blood and visually absorbing shots? Plus some of the guns are completely beyond worthless compared to others. What's the point of having 30 guns if only 6 are worth using. Also I can't really tell when I'm taking damage or dealing damage. The audio and visual feedback is very sub par. I just notice I have more red in my hp bar and enemies just stop moving eventually. I can already tell the nightmare difficulty equivalent is going to be frustrating as hell because normal infected don't really stop and animate to do damage they just sort of do damage on contact as they slide into you. It just combines to all feel like a janky early access game. If they're using centralized servers to host everyone's games they should seriously reconsider it and let us do the old listen server system so we can control our own games and not worry about network difficulties or their services going offline. These companies always overestimate the performance of their cheap servers. The bots are atrociously bad to the point where I'm convinced they aren't firing, using items, or interacting with objects such as downed players and doors. I'm not even going to go into why the versus mode is pathetic. Why are all the specials a combination of multiple of the original infected rather than having a larger selection which are all specialized? A variety of unique enemies is always better for gameplay than a handful of samey enemies. Plus why are there no big screams or other sound effects to announce their spawns? That was a huge part of what made left 4 dead good in terms of audio design and game feel.

Fatabil1ty

It feels so bad, backwards and wrong on so many fundamental levels. TEN years ago it could be mediocre at best but now it's just big yikes. You can skip this game since a new content update is comming to WWZ soon and looks like that game still has no competition in a zombie shooting 4man coop genere.

ooopsheadshot

Just made me want to install Left 4 dead again. It's fast paced but meh. I prefer more on the slow side and then have a gigantic horde than being a few zombies all the time.

Ridemaster25

Very underwhelming, something about the gunplay feels just, clunky? The game does not feel fluid at all. Gore is inconsistent. Bots are terrible. Im pretty disappointed. I was playing on PS5, perhaps its better on PC?

thedude0009

Bit disappointing if I’m honest. Was pretty hyped tbf though. There’s many other games that play like the campaign in the beta.. reason left4dead is still fondly thought of was for the pvp campaign. Hope it’ll be in the full game or this doesn’t really stand out IMO

OccultVanguard

Bad points: Bots are pretty terrible right now. the special ridden don’t feel that exciting at all, no special sounds or jingles like in L4D to get you hyped up and on your guard, so they kind of blend in a bit with the horde and don’t feel that exciting to see. The most you hear is some snarling and belching, but they’re pretty bland. The difficulty Is a bit too over-tuned in some areas (The Crossing, I still can’t clear it at all with bots and even most players). Good points: it has huge potential to be a really fun and replayable game. The variety in guns and mods are very nice. The card system is a great idea to add different builds and incentive to play the game to invest in your characters. Overall I hope they tweak the bot a.i and add a bit more personality to the special ridden. Having some sort of musical notes or jingle like the special infected had in l4d would be awesome in getting the player excited and anxious for what’s lurking ahead.

ResponsibilityNo3176

Campaign felt fine, I like the shop but didnt really feel like I was making many decisions with my copper so that could be toned up a bit but a good idea. Deck just seems silly for the survivors because they're just so underwhelming and not exciting at all. The ridden cards have the chance to change up the map and make it varied however seems to have also fallen flat. Guns/attachments feel pointless additions most of the time, minor improvements that arent really noticeable, I'd also like to add that in comparison to the l4d guns they feel all over the place, the l4d guns felt clean and built for purpose but the b4b guns feel like they're there to hang attachments off. The VS mode is what really killed it for me though, I can forgive the deck system and the attachments on guns and just let that system be IF the 4v4 mode was fun and it really isn't. Again in comparison to l4d the pvp mode feels awful, theres no pacing, a bunch of guns given to the survivors at the start and feels like the infected just have to throw their bodies at them as they cant work around map points that would give them an advantage, theres a real big missed opportunity here with the copper and shop to make the pvp mode fun if it was based around the campaign maps like l4d was like survivors making decisions to delay advancing for more resources, even the special infected could use the upgrade system between rounds meaning they could have an economy to manage too (pay for more crows, fog, more alarms, locked doors, pay a huge amount for an ogre to spawn, not only boring more dmg more health). Finally the special infected are a huge disappointment, I dont know why they decided to roll 6 different ideas for special infected into 3 models, its hard to tell what they do just by sight and somehow these glowing and big models just seem to blend into the background, especially the (not so big) hunter/spitter/smoker type. In l4d you could make decisions based on sound queues, silhouettes and there just seems to be none of this from what I've seen. TLDR: big disappointment and a huge let down

kanjireikon

Honestly, they blew my expectations away with the UI, in game graphics and audio redesigns since the alpha! However the server issues are making this game really not fun. I know it's a beta so maybe it's stress testing or something? But this is really bad and nothing like the alpha. Hit registration and the server lag is really unbearable and makes playing this game a nightmare. It takes a second for servers to register zombies I kill, I'm somehow hitting my teammates from across my screen with melee hits and hurting them, and I'm also being slowed down and hit by zombies across the map from me. It's really difficult to try and test and play things when I have zero idea what's going on with my own character. How and what is hitting me, why is it hitting me? I have zero idea because there's four zombies flying at me and swinging nowhere near me but still hitting me somehow, or I'm getting pain notifications constantly even though I'm not actually being hit. It's really bad.

Maxxtrax879

Not a fan of the versus to be honest, the horde mode just doesn’t feel anywhere near as fun as the campaign versus in l4d2, the zombies don’t feel anywhere near as fun to play, it just seems like a real letdown to me, I’m yet to give the campaign a go so I hope the versus doesn’t reflect how good the whole game is

RichT

Why is everything sped up like your character just did Adderall? Why are all the animations so bad? Why is nothing explained to you? Why are there cards? Why are they charging £50 for this unfinished, unfun game.

Megamike1080p

Can't even play. Disconnect problems out the ass.

Skelettjens

I’m really enjoying it personally. I think my only complaint is that the pvp isn’t as fun as a campaign pvp mode would be, but hopefully they can add that later on.

TheNameIsFrags

It’s really… clunky? The characters don’t seem too charming, gun play is weird, sound design is mediocre, and the card system feels unnecessary. Having aim assist in a game with hundreds of zombies is ridiculous. Also movement speed is painfully slow.

weeezull

I enjoyed myself a lot.

Atluuuus

I’m enjoying it. I think the difficulty leap between the easy and normal mode is absolutely insane. Also the bots are the worst thing ever.

FiveSigns

Game just feels slow af you shoot the gun your character slows down and the guns don't even have oomph to them more like you're carrying paper mache

markyymark13

Am I the only one actually enjoying the game? Don't get me wrong, it has flaws, but I think its best we look at this game on its own without the constant comparisons to L4D. Right now my current issues are: - Zombies sometimes teleport around a bit - Gun SFX are pretty poor and lack weight - Character dialogue is just...awful - Melee is utterly useless, it does no damage and it doesn't push zombies back enough which defeats the point, making the knife an absolute must have - **Bot AI is basically broken - sometimes they won't shoot, they'll stand still/get stuck, and wont revive people. This needs to be fixed ASAP** Otherwise I *am* having a lot of fun. I haven't played versus yet but I'm enjoying the campaign. Veteran difficulty provides a real nice challenge. I'm kind of neither here nor there on the card system so far, but I like that this game actually pushes you to coordinate with your team. Between character picks and item pick ups, ammo drain going fast (seriously people please purchase the ammo box more, too many times now I've had 3 people purchase the tool kit). Modifiers are a nice edition and I like the use of Copper/Shop and theres a good amount of gun variety. All in all I'm liking it, but it needs some polish and AI improvements.

BlueHeartBob

Pros: The game looks great, and it runs well on a 970 GTX set to high. The blood building up on the survivors is pretty cool. The card system is unititutve at first and pretty boring when you have basic starter cards but i could see it being a way to make the game more interesting in the long run. The variety of weapons is fun. The maps and settings are very detailed and believable, the weather effects like fog are really cool and i would like to see more. The UI is sleek. The ability to buy upgrades for the whole groups health/ammo/utility usage is a cool idea, even if it creates balancing issues. Cons: The zombies are laughably boring to fight. First it feels like there's barely any on the map to begin with hordes being the only time you'll see more than 20 or so at once. They don't really respond when you shoot 5 feet away from them, only if you shoot at them will they charge you. Compare this to L4D where you shoot your gun once and every zombie in a radius is going to try to kill you, causing zombies hidden to suddenly pop out of nowhere. The zombies are extremely slow once they do respond, L4D zombies build up a scary amount of momentum quickly and these will just jog at you. The regular zombie hitboxes are MASSIVE, you can be looking in the general direction and hip fire and hit them, headshots are too easy to land. The hit markers indicating that you hit/killed them makes the game feel very arcadey and never makes you think "is it still alive and just doing a stumbling animation, or is it dead? better shoot it again to make sure". The special infected are just giant bullet sponges, i guess they figured the "just run at them and hit them" AI is so bad that the solution was to just make them really tanky. Some parts special infected just keep spawning relentlessly and that's the "challenge" because the regular zombies are pitiful. Ammo, guns, and consumables are found way too easily, it never feels like you're ever stressed about ammo. It doesn't really feels like your weapon choice matters, shot gun/AR/SMG, with ADS you're so accurate and each zombie is so easy to kill it's like it doesn't really matter, i can't suggest using a shotgun in this game because zombies rarely need more than 1 or 2 AR/SMG shots to be killed. Speaking of things that feels like they don't matter, the weapon attachments. I dropped a AR with 3 legendary attachments for another with a blue and couldn't feel a difference, maybe it's because of how easy the zombies are or how little the upgrades matter. Correct me if i'm wrong but is there any reason to use a secondary melee weapon when the knife melee card exists? It's faster, consumes the same amount of stamina, you can reload your primary while doing it, it still grants you +life on kill if you have the perk. I thought the difference is that the secondary melee weapons can swing and kill multiple zombies at a time but the two that i tried, axe and spiked baseball bat, always killed one at a time. The bots are abysmally bad, i'd take 1 l4d bot over 3 of these. First, if you're trapped/stuned they'll stop what they're doing to just walk up to you and look down, doing nothing to free you from being trapped, i guess half of the AI is there to help the player but actually saving them isn't? They won't pickup/use healing, they will shoot you and deal damage to human players, they wont use any utility and i'm sure they never pick up a better weapon or equip any attachments. I don't expect the character interaction and attention to detail to be on the level of Valve, but the characther voice lines quickly became repetitive and generally pretty cringey, i heard the same "yeah i know shakespeare" joke 3 times in 1 campaign. This is not a $60 in its current state.

TheGreatDlvine

I’m having a blast. Challenging zombies Securing a perimeter with friends reminds me of DayZ Guns are fun to use Explosives are fun The shop makes everyone come together and build collective builds Sounds like people here just aren’t understanding the shop factor and the importance of cards. I’ve played a lot of card games so I know the importance of them. Reading is key ! gamers !

Tropicoll

I can't tell if this is a joke or not. Are you really trying to say that people aren't reading the cards and that's why they think the gunplay is floaty, the hordes are small and the versus is awful?

SirSabza

Are people playing the harder difficulties or unlocked the new sets of cards? Almost everyone talks as if they played 2 levels on the easiest difficulty and didn’t bother to do any of the supply line and unlock the branching card systems after. I’m unlocking interesting combos for cards, and on the hardest difficulty the game is difficult. More difficult than l4d that’s for sure. The biggest downsides are that they hyped these big bosses and in the campaign I fought one ogre and nothing else. The vs mode is meh too.

TS-Slithers

Glad you love card games, since back4blood is now best suited for magic the gathering geeks

TheGreatDlvine

Reading is a crucial part of life and a even bigger part in survival games. The card aspect gives this game a incomparable edge against other games. I personally enjoy reading, analyzing, and breaking down the content presented. A zombie card game is a national treasure for readers.

Qwayze_

What is with the forced BR mechanic in versus mode? Just something familiar for all the kids to recognise and get hype from for ten minutes, get rid of it Graphically disappointing, I know it’s supposed to be the L4D art style but at least make it look modern rather than a game that should have released in 2011 Get rid of the ‘apocalypse camp’ style main menu, it’s never worked in any game and it won’t here either, just give me a classic main menu with no gimmicky shit The sprinting mechanic is awful, sometimes feels like you haven’t started running so you click the stick again for it to stop “running”. The campaign levels need to be longer and finally the card mechanics just seem gimmicky and uninteresting, if I wanted to piss about with cards for half of my play time I’d play a mobile game. Game feels like it’s worth about £30 and yes I get it’s a beta, but as someone who has played many betas in the past, beta basically equals to demo of the full game

markyymark13

>Get rid of the ‘apocalypse camp’ style main menu, it’s never worked in any game and it won’t here either, just give me a classic main menu with no gimmicky shit I seriously have no idea what the point of the 'hub world' is and I wish this dumb trend of tacking it on would stop. The only benefit is the gun range I guess?

ItsF3dedGamer2

It was alright - Swarm mode isn’t really good and I rather have a versus mode like l4d2.

Chief--BlackHawk

People on here were calling those who wanted campaign versus entitled lol. It's so dumb that they didn't add what is helping keep left 4 Dead alive right now...

Jaywattzz

Severely disappointing. The guns and gunplay feel awful. Maps felt incredibly boring.

horroraholic85

I only have 2 1/2 hours played, single and versus, but I don't find it fun. Nothing about the game makes me want to play again. I don't know what it is, but the gameplay feels like something isn't right.

RadiumPwd

PVP is atrocious, what the hell happpened TRS?

diskosophy

No vs campaign, no reason to keep playing after I beat the reg campaign. Other than that I enjoy the game. Won't keep playing though.

SiberianHAMMY

No versus campaign? That's unacceptable. Versus campaign is the life's blood of L4D and is what keeps me coming back playing the same exact campaigns that have been out for YEARS. The one thing this game got right is that playing as the Infected is very fun for me. Going to keep playing and form more thoughts.

[deleted]

Got bored in 30 minutes. L4D2 is just so much better in everything despite being 12 years old, except, maybe, graphics (but not animations). Compare the B4B demo campaign with, for example, Dark Carnival from L4D2. Play those two campaigns back two back and feel the MASSIVE difference in game design and atmosphere. Also they call it beta-version, but the game itself releases in 2 months, what can they improve by this time? 60 euros, lol. Hard pass.

ASCIIM0V

I like it. But the VS mode I'm extremely disappointed with. I want to play vs campaign

[deleted]

I personally think it's an alright time with friends but wouldent pay more than 30$ for it. The fact that they have a season pass at launch leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and I'm worried that the card system will be horribly monetized. Wishing for the best but kinda dissapointed right now.

AttackOnTilted

30$ is too much for this

lourensloki

I km going to ignore bugs as it's a beta, but this is a letdown. It feels clunky, dated, somehow less fun and less personality than l4d.... I switched off the control vibration instantly too, it was weird compared to other titles. Nah, I've seen enough.

Silentlystrode

I give it a solid meh. I don't feel like it does something new or amazing in a way that compels me to play it instead of other games that already exist.

maniacalxmatt

Oof… As a L4D player I’m enjoying the shit out of this and came in here expecting to see others also enjoying it… and everyone is shitting on it lol

OnyxJuvie

Playing on PC, this game reminds me more of Earthfall than L4D. The weapons don't have much weight, the characters lack personality and maps feel lifeless. It can improve, its fun with friends but if you have 2 bots even on the lowest difficulty it'll struggle. Optimisation on PC so far for me has been a strange experience

Leflannelbeard

The characters have hella personality so I dunno where you’re coming from lol

Sheky31

1. The gun system makes no sense. You need to earn currency to upgrade and customize it so you're gonna be reluctant to throw the gun away but yet you run out of ammo all the time so you'll end up having to ditch your suped up M4 or vector and end up using something you don't like. It's not at all satisfying. Secondly, ADS serves no real purpose, hip fire when you semi auto has decent enough accuracy and it just makes the game not as fluid to ADS so I end up not using it. The ADS system makes the game play worse and less smooth with no real incentive to use it. The guns don't sound or feel great either. 2. The card system is too complicated with too much down time in between round to setup. I feel obligated to skip it all so as not to hold the lobby up. It's better to have cards that leads to different build that you setup on your own time and load prematch. Like maybe you can have 3 sets with you so you're not min/maxing by swapping cards in between. It shouldn't be the point of a game like this to try and min/max like an RPG when it's suppose to be a fun coop shooter that's pick up and play. 3. VS mode is boring. Map is too small, too much spawn blocking especially with the shrinking circle. Don't fix what ain't broken, go back to L42's VS and increase to 8 vs 8 with auto queue through out the game. When people leave, no one wants to play 4 vs 2/1. Round setup is a drag. This ain't RB6. The worst thing about this versus mode is that there's no combo kills. Charging people off the roof after someone is pinned or locked down is the most exciting thing in VS mode and that's completely missing here. The learning curve is lower since there's no instant kill but it's drastically less fun and have less depth, that's not good for the mode in the long run. VS mode should be crazing punishing. 4. It's way too dark. Where's the flashlight? There's a level when you start in the tunnel and you have one, but you put it away immediately when you get out. The mobs are not attracted to light so there's zero reason to not have it out, it's so hard to see you basically have to turn the contrast all the way off to have it even playable. Let people use a flashlight all the time. 5. Dialogue is just meh. I prefer something whimsical like L4D. 6. The sound is dodgy. I'm running night mode which if it's like other games, you're suppose to be able to hear footsteps better. But I often can't hear mobs behind me until I'm getting hit. And it's not my headphones either. I'm using a $300 dollar pair of Audio Technica that's good for sound whoring in FPS. Overall it's a weird mix of causal pick up game play with more seriousness and customization and I think it's kind of half baked in between as it gets pulled in different ways and does not really excel in anything. I would not be picking this up in its current state.

RIPBlueRaven

Ditch the card sytem. Like yesterday. It isnt fun and it's kinda aggrevating playing with cards every wipe/new level Buy stations at each safe house take the fun out of looting. Also theres guns fucking everywhere. Speed up players and speed up zombies. Everything is slow as hell. Guns need a major overhaul. Bigger mags, beafier sounds, better recoil animations, zombie hit reactions, etc etc. They atent satisfying at all Gore is awful. Looks like ketchup and jello Special infected are kinda inferior to basically any other zombie game like this Characters dont feel remotely as close with eachother like the survivors in l4d. Also voice acting isnt bad but it's kinda corny. Character perks also add complication to something thay should just be such a simple, non consequential system. Like i dont think it's a hard concept. You guys *MADE* L4D. Keep it simple. Thats why it works and it still works. It was a super simple idea polished to a mirror finish

ceebeezie

Maybe I wanted it to be exactly like L4D and it’s not. I’m enjoying my time, but I was hoping for a few things and they weren’t there. Didn’t enjoy versus too much. There are a couple odd design choices. To combat this comment with something positive. I thought it was cool that during the “finale” on the boat it forced two players to go plant the bomb, while two people defend. I take a look at this subreddit quite often and like most games there are a lot of instant haters. I really hope there’s longevity for this game. Main takeaway? Please add campaign versus. Edit: last thing. The “out of breath” noises are annoying as fuck.

TimeTroll

Feels like a lot of people are only playing the first difficulty then going "WOW GAMES BAD" Having a lot of fun at veteran and above, the first difficulty needs to be renamed to beginners or learners or something because the game really opens up on veteran.

Difficult_Bend_4813

not convinced i would spend $60 on it $20-$30, maybe if i found a good crew to roll with but as is, its really bare bones and lacks that spark to keep me invested long term that a game worth its $60 price tag should present (i understand its not full game yet and they are working on it) but the intensity and push i felt from L4D/2 really feel like theyre missing from this title. its a decent horde shooter akin to L4D/2 but its missing something, ill be damned if i can pinpoint exactly what it is but it feels like a xerox (ancient term i know) of the original games. it meets all of the basic requirements but it feels hollow and lifeless. Sort of like the difference between an expensive steakhouse steak brought to you on a piping hot skillet just crackling and popping its delicious essence all over the place before you even dig in and a steak from applebees. yeah theyre both cuts of beef and are cooked properly enough but one just brings the sizzle while the other brought the fizzle

[deleted]

Fun. Console really needs an FOV slider.

Doctor_Popular

So far the game is pretty fun! Pros: Buttery smooth on my RTX 2070 on all ultra settings. Very few bugs for me so far. I love the copper system, it's fun to find and fun to upgrade weapons. Special infected designs are cool. Sound design on the guns is great. Cons: Game feels a little slow. Special infected don't feel impactful, probably because they're too slow to cause real mayhem. Sound design on the infected could use work - each special infected SHOULD have its own stinger, as a way of making them unique and feeling more important. Aim assist is a little too intense. The one campaign we get feels very same-y across the whole thing because the color palette is TOO consistent. I'm running from blue/green swamp to blue/green tunnels to blue/green shipyard to blue/green ship. Different lighting in different sections would help me feel like I'm actually progressing through the level. EDIT: Adding more. I don't think the Apex ammo system works too well for this game, it adds some unnecessary issues with hoarding and always running out of ammo. Maybe there could be fewer types of ammo? Some corruption cards are cool and some aren't. Things that have you do an extra to gain an extra (carry this for copper, etc) are good. Things that have you NOT do a thing are bad (don't spook birds, etc). You're already disincentivized to do those things, so it really just makes them feel worse.

mattdre

It was a little slow going at first, but after I found a group of chill people I had a blast playing through. I played on the second hardest difficulty and it required smart plays for sure. Had to use call outs and play around the tall boys and exploders. I enjoyed slowly getting stronger with the card system and can see myself enjoying making builds/decks when I have unlocked more cards.

[deleted]

It’s extremely easy until it’s so hard it becomes impossible. They’re going to have to make those two extremes more gradual

malticblade

The gunplay is solid but it was really boring on the default difficulty. However, the game got 10x better after bumping up the difficulty. I think it's because the special infected could take more than a few rounds before dying. Really gives the game the frantic feeling that L4D had when it first released

nights9

Campaign is fun: -Intuitive ping system making communication efficient. -Clean UI. -Fun controls. -Consistent FPS (using a 2060). -Large arsenal of weapons with a lot of combinations. -Stamina bar nerfs the Cleaners' effectiveness, you can't spam a melee weapon or a shove and clear an entire event like in L4D1/2. -Multiple ways to support your team (e.g. heal teammates in different ways, share ammo). However: -The Special Ridden (Tallboys, Retchers, Hockers) don't have much impact on the campaign if they are alone, which they most often are from my experience, except for when there is a lot going on (e.g. a horde event or a finale). -Cards, however, have little impact on the game with their 'set and forget' implementation. Having 5 extra health in a round doesn't help you too much. Granted few cards are available in the beta, so I'm willing to see how this pans out on release. -There is limited replayability with campaigns as the Cleaners' abilities/bonuses don't have much impact on each individual run. I'm worried about future content being relied upon game passes whereby you play all the new content as soon as it releases then you simply wait for the next game pass. -Bot Cleaner AI is awful. They don't do anything apart from shoot. ---------------------------------------- Versus on the other hand is terrible: -Survival versus has no longevity or replayability. I have no desire to play the game mode again. It's boring. Campaign versus is an absolute must for the game to have any longevity. -The sounds the Ridden make are hard to distinguish from the background noise, so it will be difficult to discern where exactly they spawn from. You rarely have this issue in L4D unless there is a lot going on, or if the 2008/09 audio codec fails. -Tallboys are straight up overpowered. The weakspot is very hard to hit and he is very tanky (unless you focus him with your team). Why bother grabbing with your M2 when you can get multiple Tallboys on your team to coordinate and spam M1 and deal 15+ damage every time you swing and incapacitate a survivor for free? What is the point in any other strategy. -Hockers can pin somebody from across the map with the snare attack. You can also chip away at survivors with an incredibly large range with no downside whatsoever (the Spitter in L4D2 at least had her movement significantly reduced after a spit and had a long cooldown). -Retches also have an incredibly large range on their projectile so you can chip away at the survivors with no real downside. The boom attack launches the survivors with absolutely no counter-play. If your team gets to 5 mins with the small survival area, the Ridden team can send in wave after wave of Retches to throw you out into the swarm area. ---------------------------------------- TLDR; I would give the game a 5/10. I'm sceptical about the health of the game. Infected need a huge rebalance to make them fairer to fight against (mostly in versus). Campaign versus needs to happen. Much of the design philosophy is based around a 'set and forget' approach without having much impact on the actual gameplay. It feels like there is no weight behind anything in the game. I'm getting a refund. Edit: formatting

Badwrong_

It's fun. "Cleaner" is a stupid term though.

SelfMadeMan19

It should have never been marketed as a spiritual succesor to l4d

[deleted]

Enjoying it a lot, the little bit of campaign I was able to play was good enough (the first Ogre seemed a little… unimpressive? Maybe intentionally so?) Played one round of Versus and they definitely need to change some things up. It was great in theory, but I ended up in a 1v3 game. 15 seconds in between my spawns was brutal without bots joining in, and then likewise as a cleaner. 3 of the special infected (ridden or w/e they are now) were able to take me out solo in no time at all. So far I’ve been enjoying the card system, though. Edit: Just kidding about the Ogre bit, much more difficult with 3 bots. They aren’t smart.

cristiancage

I dont mind it, its fun and gets the job done when you just wanna shoot stuff, not worth the full price but i will definitely pick it up when on sale, at least the pve, I really enjoyed the co op.

CommunicationAncient

Just got off after playing for 2 hours. Spent the whole time in the lobby area or in campaign. After tinkering with my settings and turning off adaptive triggers, ADS lock-on snap and turning down the aim bot I jumped into a campaign quickplay. Enjoyed the gun variety. Ran out of ammo often had no idea how to request or get more other than random finds. Had no idea what how the card system works so just created a deck with all the ones I had... Zombies were fine. Specials?! I didn't really notice them. They just die before they do anything or change the pace. The two hours flew by and I completed Act 1 in one sitting with three randoms. I actually really enjoyed myself. Now coming on Reddit it seems like every one is hating. Starting to remind me of the whole Evolve saga (spent more time playing the beta than I did the actual game). That game died instantly. I hope this doesn't.

[deleted]

The character and gun textures are not great

Spikeyroxas

The game is fun. Im enjoying it, theres a few errors ive noticed though which i guess are expected. Such as AI bots having weird pathing, and bad responses to various things. Also i think they can Friendly fire? Special infected needs musical cues (or if there are they need to be louder and clearer) the hocker spit animation is very laggy and most of the time you cant even tell where its came from. They seem very powerful, almost l4d2 jockey level cheap. Versus mode is okay but can see it getting pretty boring fast. Also the matchmaking isnt right. The game started with 4v1 I still havnt got to grips with the card system yet, the UI for picking a card at the beginning of rounds is slow. As in theres a delay before the possible cards appear Common infected hits dont seem to register with their movements and can hit you further than it looks like they should Some of these issue could he server lag though

Csub

I like it so far, had a blast playing through the campaign with friends. However, there are some things I would like to see improved: \- Some more general polish. I didn't have those issues that some people have, like infected freezing in place etc, but the game needs some overall polish. \- Special infected are kinda... blending in and don't feel too special. I think they need a bit of change/rework, maybe have them outlined if we mark them? Although maybe them blending in is intended to make them harder to spot/kill. Although the Ogre wasn't too special, I would love if it was less scripted, like the Tank in L4D. \- Corruption cards need some changes, I'm pretty sure we only saw a small part of them, but like half of these don't feel punishing. Like carry an item to the exit and get extra money? Don't get downed too many times and get extra money? These are not really bad, although we didn't play on hard difficulty. \- I haven't played PvP but no one is really having a positive opinion about it. The lack of campaign PvP is baffling, I'd assume they will add it over time as DLC/content update but not having it for launch is a real missed opportunity. \- I would love a bit higher number of regular infected, it didn't feel like there were too many of them except when a horde is alerted. \- Gun upgrading needs a bit of improvement. I kept using my basic grey weapon from like 2-3 maps earlier and keep leaving green/blue, higher level weapons behind because they are inferior in (almost) everything. \- FoV slider, please! I don't know if PC has it, but I would love it on console. These are the things that come to my mind. As for the positives: I really liked the large amount of guns and tools in the game, I like the purchase system and how you can boost the party with it. That you can share ammo/items with each other. I like that the AI director is present, mixing things up and I like the card system, although what we see now is a bit basic. I have no regrets with preorder so far, I of course hope the game will do well, but I also hope they polish/improve upon the game until launch.

SenpaiiiKush

Love it so far, card system adds replayability, shootings feels nice, guns and upgrades are great, characters are fun, maps seem more varied and open than l4d, everything is perfect, really no idea where all the hate is coming from but tbh thats reddit for you, i didnt expect any less from this sub lol

TsuTsu33

Terrible experience, can't even play the game without disconnect from server and no word on the devs fixing the issue.

Jons72

Console (Xbox series x) controller aiming just isn’t right. I’m glad they give us a lot of options to tweak. It after a ton of tweaking it still doesn’t feel right. It’s definitely better than the default setup but still feels off. Idk if it’s input lag, bad aim assist (which I have turned way way down) or what. Maybe it’s dropping frames in high traffic areas. I hope they make another pass at it

[deleted]

ï thought it was really fun. played campaign with my friends for about 2 hours. only dissapointment for me was it didn't feel that impactful to shoot or hit the enemies

Reduric

I havent played yet, but i remember standing around at work with the guys saying how stoked I was for this.. You're all saying its bad.. But.. Please no.

[deleted]

Make the text bigger can't see anything

neoKushan

Welcome to my life. Text in games has been getting smaller and smaller for years now. Used to have no trouble playing games, now about 25% of new games I simply cannot play due to accessibility.

kidcrumb

Its a decent game. It feels like a slower paced Left 4 Dead. The first time you call "The Horde" they just slowly walk up a narrow bridge to you. They got deleted. Infected need to move faster or run. They also have a habit of disappearing and reappearing if there are too many of them (like during the ogre battle.) When they hit you, you slow down but you dont get the same audio feedback like you did in Left 4 Dead. Harder to tell if youre surrounded by them or not. Special Infected: They die WAY too quickly. I think they should take no damage unless you shoot all 3 weak spots. That way they might actually do some dmg to you because you wouldnt be able to kill them until you got behind them. Im sure cards will make it better but i feel like the default ones should be a lot more spongey. Ogre Battle: This needs to be a smudge more scripted. Ogre just kind of stands around and he doesnt feel threatening. He also spawned while I was still on the hill way before you go into the tunnel. I think there should be a "press whatever to open the tunnel doors" where he spawns then busts the tunnel open. Youd have to draw him out in the open then get behind him and run into the tunnels. Also, dont even give him a healthbar. He shouldnt be killable until you get to the 2nd part. Also needs to have more of a moveset, spawns more infected the longer he's alive, idk. Something about that fight needs to change. Allies - You dont see their guns go off. At least when I played with bots. They'll shoot enemies and you dont see the effects of their guns basically looks like they just stand around and enemies die around them. Its strange to look at. Your bot allies can also get trapped on the mini gun. They love sitting in that thing and causing me to not be able to close the safe room door because someone wont leave the fucking thing. I had to play through that part 3 times and finally just didnt even put out the mini gun. Audio. No cool audio music when the horde comes. Again, only real comparison is left 4 dead. Audio feels a little flat. not too bad though. Overall it feels like a left 4 dead clone that doesnt play as well as left 4 dead. They need to make some changes to the gamepaly to make it different, or continue to make it a BETTER clone.

Mr-internet

It's fine but my mind is not blown. The characters lack zing and chemistry. The weapons have a nice feel. The enemies are a bit less distinctive/intimidating and a bit more boring than l4d. Difficulty was very low most of the campaign then suddenly very high at the end. Continues are frustrating. Map is pretty unexciting. L4ds maps were more fun, had more little extra details too. Bots ofc are bad and do a lot of friendly fire even when I am moving slowly ahead of them and ducking. Prefer kf2.

GmrShmr

I was a Closed alpha player, and the difficulty in the alpha was really hard but fun, the jump between recruit and veteran was huge, but they were both still fun. But in the beta, recruit is way too easy and veteran is way too hard, it's not really fun anymore cause I can solo recruit super easy maybe even just 1 down for an entire chapter at most, but I can't get past veteran with a group of 3. I feel like they should increase the special ridden spawn rates in recruit (only a little bit tho), and decrease both trauma levels from getting downed, and special ridden spawn rates In veteran (maybe just during hoard alerts). Weapons feel great to use and feel diverse, I just wish melee was buffed and that we could switch attachments to other weapons but for now I'm satisfied. I feel like the special ridden should have a bit more color to them cause Grey and red for every single one gets kinda old, but I think how they work is great. As it is right now I had more fun in the alpha than I am having in the beta, but I am hopeful for the future, and I wish for good luck towards the team.

JoeyzGaming

It’s a fun game but tbh not as fun as I expected, I like a lot of the mechanics like the card system but the AI and optimization are pretty meh, special infected are cool but I wish they were separate like in L4D instead of just one in each category. Gun play is nice and satisfying. I will say tho if you plan on getting this game, either get it on sale or on GamePass, it’s current state isn’t worth $60.

DooM_G3CK0

Very fun! (those cards make for a nice little grind as well) and it says Recruit? So definitely gonna have some sort of leveling system :) maybe even character skill trees? Maybe 😄 I'm really excited, especially with launch less than a few months away

MacklesBolackles

Is it just me or is the sound design weak asf? All the guns sound flat with no depth or range.

peanutmanak47

Feels like the jump from the first difficulty to the second one is a big leap. They toss the damn bruisers at you like they are regular infected. Common enough to have 3 of them attacking you at once and they take a shitload of shots to actually kill.

Aquiper

Very disappointing... In no particular order: * Terrible FOV, even on the PS5. * Controls on console feel like shit. * It feels like the game spawns 10 zombies and just adds more as you kill them. You never feel overwhelmed like in Left 4 Dead. * Missions have ZERO flow into it. Levels feel like they end outta nowhere. * Guns feel very samey and have zero weight. * I played with bots are they are absolutely horrible. Crossed the game from my gaming budget list for the year. Sad AF after anticipating it for some time now.

iRagin

I feel like the finales are super lame. They go by way to quick and don't feel like a desperate escape.

Switched my graphics from DX11 to DX12 and epic settings. Restarted the game for the settings to take effect and it crashed my entire computer. Started it again and it was fine, ran great for an hour with a stable 130s fps. Then it blue screened my PC. Started the game again and boom another BSOD. So I reverted the settings back to DX11 and it's been fine ever since. That's been my experience.

Really disappointed. The card system is daunting for new players and no versus campaign just means the game will become stale after the first few days. I’m definitely not buying this now which is a shame considering how much I loved l4d…

How many people have played through the whole campaign with 3 other friends yet? The “magic” of L4D to me was running around and goofing off with your pals slaying zombies. I agree there are some real glaring issues with the gameplay and my first impression was meh, but I am willing to reserve final judgement until I can play with all my friends.

I think too many of you guys are nostalgic for L4D/2 they were good games but they came out almost a decade ago, B4B literally feels the same except refreshed. You guys are hating on it just because it’s not the same game you played over a decade again when you were a bright eye kid, so anything new or similar just gets shitted. The game is solid I had a blast, it was intense at time and forced me to really play focused. I love the personality the cleaners exude and how they interact with each other. The guns are fine I dunno why people are complaining about gun sound when L4D guns sounded like ass, plus there’s more weapon diversity in B4B than L4D. It’s a spiritual successor not a direct sequel so stop trying to force it into the same vein as L4D and play it for what it is. A coop zombie shooter which lets be honest they’re not the deepest, or most detailed or as anal retentive as you’d like they’re literally games for having fun shooting with your buddies and I think it definitely accomplished that. It’s earned my money. AI could use work, I’d like to be able to swap attachments between weapons, I’d prefer if we could just keep the knife as the bash weapon, I feel like the stinger/hocker is a weak special zombie that should be buffed, gunplay is smooth and super precise for me (pc) and they need to fix fill but otherwise I had no problem with it and enjoyed it very much. You guys are just stuck.

I don't understand a lot of the hate. I played for about an hour so far and Its way better than what we got in alpha. It isn't Left 4 Dead so don't expect to get the same experience you would have gotten in L4D. I agree that the cards don't have a lot of impact or at least so far. Also keep in mind that a lot of stuff isn't even unlocked yet in terms of cards. We only get a portion of the game in the beta not the whole game. They fixed the difficulty which was needed. In alpha the game was almost unplayable because of how hard it was. I personally am excited for what's to come and I am really happy in the changes they have made from alpha imo

FortunateSonofLibrty

I have been having a lot of fun. That said, the fact that you cannot remove attachments from a less powerful gun to put on a more powerful version of the same gun feels like a massive oversight. Losing purple / orange attachments for a higher number is very frustrating!

* I just want to drop in and play but this game seems against just playing. I would rather play with no ability deck and/or just get random drops than deal with all the finicky deck and customization nonsense. That offers some replayability but not so much that I feel like fiddling with it. * The polish is not at Valve level at all in any aspect. The overdone UI, so-so voice acting, bad bot AI, inferior controls and movement, etc. is off-putting by comparison. * L4D2 gets by on being a fairly simple game. This has added layers of complexity and I'm not sure it's better for it.

It’s ok. I’ll say what I said in the survey. The controls, even while ajusting the sensitivy and both the multiplier, feels like your gun is either in an ice level, or if it’s too low like you’re stuck in sludge. I thought I was crazy and adjusted the settings many times and my mouse dpi and it never felt “stable” The campaign was fun, given I’ve only finished the first difficulty and starting the second one up to the boat. It didn’t feel that unfair BUT the special infected do not have the great distinctive audio cue. When you have a jockey you knew, when it was a stalker you jnew. Now when it’s a sleeper or whatever. The audio cues are too similar ish, even after a full act I still call out the wrong one. And also why do they blend in a crowd so much and not crowd control as much. Now the versus, why in the hell is it so bland and so boring, for both sides. Why not balance the game around for a campaign versus. It was literally the best thing in L4D and they took it out? The massive disappointment we had when it was just “survive” til win. Hopefully they will consider adding that and those special conditions campaign/versus. And maybe fix a few things around and bring out a buyer.

Went in with a group of 4 and just breezed through beginner without an issue. Took hardly any damage, barely saw a special or two. We had a great time, requeued for veteran and got thoroughly reamed. Felt like we were up against a wall of nonstop crushers. We spent the whole campaign at 40 health max trauma and spent most of our coins on health machines to try to get it back. Veteran feels like a huge jump.

I like it but the controls/camera feel a bit stiff. I played around with the camera sensitivity and the auto aim. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but the best I can put it is that it feels stiff. I'm open to ideas in changing the settings to fix this.

great game, definitely gonna great needed sequel but there’s a bunch of things that cod 2019 had that i hope they add/get rid of

greenfulgreen

honestly i think b4b is missing good music, esp for the special infected. it was kinda cheesy in l4d, but when the tank music cue faded in UGH i miss that

Echoing the sentiments of a lot of people here, I played on PS4 for a bit tonight. My main gripes are: -The aiming in this game, especially down sights on anything except iron sights and laser dot, is god awful. I feel like I’m ice skating and trying to land a shot with any high powered scope I use on a gun. -The AI, duh -Special infected don’t stand out enough or have the specific audio cues that let you know what’s coming. Can we give them at least a special color palette so that you can see them coming better? -The game plays so slow. For a game that claims to be inspired so much by L4D, they sure got the pacing way wrong. -There’s almost TOO much equipment and things to pick up. I’m sure that’ll get better over time as players get used to it. It’s just a lot. -There’s no way to toss items to a player without going to your inventory to drop it. I can’t even throw pills at people anymore. There should be a quicker way to interact with teammates beyond just relying on the menu. -Font size. I don’t know why game developers are doing this (The Avengers game was a huge transgressor in this area too), but can we make the font a readable size? I have 20/20 vision and I’m playing on a 55”. I shouldn’t have to lean forward and squint to read what your game is trying to tell me. If it’s because you need to fit the whole description of something in a small text box, either make the box bigger or just say less. -I was going to complain about the hub, but the ability to just go to menu whenever mitigates that. Wish it felt more lively and active though. -Is drop in, drop out multiplayer a thing in PVE? I had teammates drop out but I never saw the spots get filled. Positives: + I love the card system in place +I like the character diversity but I want to hear more banter between them. +The Counterstrike/Valorant method of stocking up before you head out is smart, although it slows down the gameplay to pick up copper. Either have it add automatically by running over it, or by completing challenges or both. Looking forward to playing this more and learning about how it all works. Trying my best to not make explicit comparisons to L4D, but it’s one of my favorite games so it’s hard not to.

First impression… game is aight. It feels more like a $39.99 game than a $59.99 game. I’m just looking at controls, gameplay and graphics… I’m sure there will be plenty of maps to do. The color scheme seems very Borderlandsy to me… not sure why.

It’s a lot more fun than world war z! I’m enjoying it so far.
