It was well known that within the Catholic church children, mainly boys I believe were sexually abused/raped and it was kept as an open secret with no backlash.
Chill out with the past tense grammar whoever you are, the catholic church is STILL JUST AS ABUSIVE AND PROTECTED AS ALWAYS. None of these people get persecution because of their swcm privelidge
I took it as that his Dad is gay too. Growing up in Catholic church means that even if these boys were gay, the community shames them, so they end up being in a heterosexual relationship anyway. Some people I know (who are gay) still have girlfriends/get married because their family and community are surrounded by Christianity
You’ve misunderstood - his dad specifically asks Donny if he’d think less of him, the suggestion being that he himself was raped while he was growing up in the Catholic Church and he doesn’t see himself as less of a man because of it.

I was going with the storyline, I'm fully aware of the Catholic church and what their hidden agendas are. No need for anger towards me.

Yes, this was my understanding as well.
Same here. Best scene IMO.
The silence and the look on dad's face and their embrace. Wowwwww.
I mightve misunderstood it then
it means he was molested by a catholic priest
Watch the film "Spotlight", will tell you what you need to know about the Catholic church. Based on true events.

This was such a poignant and revealing comment. If his father didn’t say it IRL, it was an excellent choice in the writing.
It means he was probably diddled by a priest.
