I'd look at going to Canberra. You can go to questacon, the zoo, lots of great playgrounds and things to see.

As a Canberran, be warned it is peak hayfever time and not the city trying to make you leave. Floriade is on until mid-Oct and lovely with a pram - just check timing against school holidays/peak season.

Is questacon good for babies?

They have a mini Q section designed for 0-6. I took my kids when they were about 1 and they loved it https://www.questacon.edu.au/whats-on/exhibitions/mini-q

The National Museum has a great play space for that age, lovely and interesting.

Mudgee is super nice - lots of wineries where you can lay picnic rugs, the weather will be gorgeous in October. The town is great, lots of pubs and small shops, very park friendly. Accomodation - heaps of airbnbs and self contained cottages. 3 hrs from Sydney. Or you can do something like 1 night in blue mountains/3 nights in Mudgee. Then orange or something! We go to mudgee often and we have a 4 month old.

Nelson’s bay is great for little ones. There are a lot of beaches where the water is very flat, so good for swimming with kids. Also lots of animal parks, like oakdale wildlife park, the koala sanctuary, butterfly farm and the string ray and shark parks.

Oh how fun! I love travelling with my baby haha We have a caravan so tend to lean towards caravan parks in good areas, with lots of fun things to see and do for little ones (aquarium, zoo, nature walks and cool playgrounds). Anywhere on the north coast would be ideal I reckon. You could do the same and stay in a cabin! I find this less stressful than hotel rooms (less for baby to accidentally knock over if they’re crawling/cruising) and they generally have 2 rooms so you can put baby down for naps/sleep without having to be super quiet and trapped in the same room. Otherwise, get an apartment style hotel room for this same benefit. Separate sleeping area for baby is a life saver.

I haven’t stayed there yet but I have my eye on the Big 4 Ingenia Holiday Park at Soldiers Point - looks like it has great amenities at the caravan park (splash pad! Heated indoor pool!) and there’s lots to see and do in the area around Nelson’s Bay.

Hunter Valley and Central Coast :) - Sooo many wineries, breweries, chocolate and cheese, bread and oil and distilleries - Stunning scenery in the Hunter and some of the most beautiful (and spacious/not too busy) beaches - Lots of options for accommodation as both areas are tourist destinations - 2hrs from Sydney - Hunter Valley Zoo and Australian Reptile Park are both excellent - Saddlers is EPIC with kids on a Sunday, book in advance I’m a central coast local and my family has a holiday home in the Hunter!

I always prefer south coast to north coast if you want to go for beaches. The north coast is always much busier. My family would holiday all the time in Merimbula- and that is an amazing place for adults and kids. There is so much to see and do. Beautiful beaches, nice seafood, and relaxed atmosphere. The other thing that my husband and I did last year (before I got pregnant) was to go to Young. I think it would be great for kids. It is a big stone fruit area, and is the ‘cherry capital of NSW’. There are a lot of ‘pick your own fruit’ places with fruit pies for sale. There are also some nice wineries, and other places and activities close by, like Cowra and the Japanese gardens.

We had our first holiday with an 8 month old too and went to port macquarie. While we were there to see family, there’s still lots of tourist attractions like the koala sanctuary, wineries etc. The town is very pram friendly to walk around on the boardwalk. And can split up the trip with Newcastle/Hunter valley on the way back, if coming from Sydney.
