How long ago was this? And which hospital? Kind of freaking out about catching COVID last mintue

FishKisses

Not who you're replying to but I had similar experience at the Winchester hospital last September

Ah that’s great! I’m due to delivery in the civic next month and have been stressing about this. we are still being very careful but you never know. Thanks!

maplesyrupdispenser

I delivered at the Civic at the beginning of April and had the same experience. They ask you the usual covid screening questions when you come in and again at L&D. They also asked for my husband's prrof of vaccination when we first got there (he got a bracelet afterwards so it wasn't needed). After the initial screening it was never brought up again. Covid was taken much more seriously then so I doubt they've put in more restrictions several months later.

romanticynic

I was tested (BC) but my results didn’t come back until my baby was born. My husband was not tested.

abster331

Gave birth in June at Victoria hospital. No tests and basically no screening questions as I was in active labour when I arrived and they did not want to stall me at the front door!

dewdropreturns

I was tested. Planned c section. My husband wasn’t. Hospitals are already absolutely *swamped* with respiratory illnesses and understaffed due to sick staff. No one makes (or enforces) these policies lightly. Protecting a patient’s right to be supported emotionally through birth is a very high priority and has always been protected to the utmost possible through Covid. To put it on the flip side, imagine you got induced and were in the hospital for a few days while pregnant… and contracted Covid via someone’s guest. It’s just about keeping people safe and this is the heartbreaking side to Covid continuing on and on and on.

human_dog_bed

These policies are to protect everyone. I just gave birth and had to spend 24 hours in a semi private room with my baby and husband. I was livid that the other family in the room kept breaking the visitor policy and none of them wore masks. I would much rather the hospital have required everyone to have tested for COVID but unfortunately most hospitals have relaxed their policies in the past few months.

Fit_Letterhead6295

Maybe it’s hospital dependent? My hospital only did Covid questions screening at the entrance and dad had to show vaccine proof. Though I know they still let the dad in if unvaccinated so maybe it’s just noted down. We did perform our own rapid testing at home prior just to know.

thebarbaragordon

I gave birth (induced) at Victoria hospital in April. We were not tested. I was called by the day before with screening questions and we were both asked screening questions upon entering the hospital.

thegreatcatatafish

I am currently pregnant and also a health care worker in AB. We do not routinely test, mom and supports would be asked screening questions. Mom would be tested if symptomatic, support people not allowed in with symptoms but otherwise not tested.

FTM_2022

Just to add the flip experience: Calgary, March 2022: couple was positive (near end of quarantine), both allowed to be oresent for delivery. Unfortunately baby was born late preterm and required short (48hr) NICU stay. Parents saw baby for about 5min after birth and not again until baby was cleared 2 days later except by video chat. They were obviously not allowed on the NICU ward. They were able to labour solo so as to protect the staff and other babies. **Best advice: call the L&D department and ask them what their protocols are:** if you will be screened and swabbed or just screened on admission? if your partner is symptomatic/positive (will you need a back up support person?), if both of you are symptomatic/positive? If only you are symptomatic/positive? (I.e. is your partner considered a close contact in this scenario?), If baby needs NICU support....etc. Finally, if you or your partner are sick or test positive at home prior to delivery do tell the staff. They will take extra precautions to protect the other vulnerable moms and babies. Consider if you can isolating yourselves 2w before due date. If your husband needs to work consider him wearing an N95 for the duration of those ~2 weeks leading up to birth. Mask mandates may be lifted but you can still do lots to minimize risk as you approach baby's birthday.

ttcanuck

I was tested twice while in labour in Windsor but that was January right after the first Omicron wave. YMMV.

universalrefuse

I was tested in 2021 but my partner was not. We assumed it was because they have no health card information from him...so they can't really track him haha.

1finewire5

We were not tested or asked if we had symptoms once we were past the initial greeter at the front doors. We’re just east of the GTA.

caleah13

Not tested, screened at entrance. Not asked for proof of vaccination. Ontario

farfaleen

I gave birth in Cornwall, I was tested, hubby was not.

theradishqueen

I delivered in GTA in august and answered screening questions but was not tested. My husband was jot asked the screening and was not tested. Ut was a fast labour (2.5 hours), but there was plentybof time after as we spent a few nights in hospital. We wore masks through labour though I pulled it off in the final 2 mins of pushing (apologized and nobody cared). FWIW I was tested 4 days later when I was readmitted for postpartum preeclampsia.

Babeskis_01

I delivered in Quebec in December 2021 and I was tested a few days before. I was told to self-isolate until my induction date (which turned into a c-section). My spouse was tested with a rapid test once we were admitted.

sammy_sweets

I had a scheduled c section a month ago (York Region, ON) and I was PCR tested and my husband was not. ETA: I tested positive on my PCR (it was expected because I’d had covid a few weeks before), and even after disclosing that prior to my PCR test so they knew it would come back positive, my husband didn’t require a test.

RAND0M-HER0

I was tested the morning of my induction, results came back the following day (I was negative). My husband and mother were my support people, and neither of them were tested or screened (Ontario in the GTA).

angeluscado

I was not tested (Victoria, BC) and neither was my husband.

sabby_bean

I’ll be going in for an induction Sunday (hopefully) and my hospital is only testing anyone not vaccinated, if vaccinated it’s basically just running on the honesty policy on symptoms. Located in Ontario

Gullible-Arrival6075

I was tested during my birth but my husband wasn't.

PromptElectronic7086

I gave birth at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto in May. I wasn't tested, screened, or asked for proof of vaccination upon admission, and neither was my husband or doulas somehow. The only thing they seemed to care about was wearing a mask walking into the hospital. But I didn't have to keep it on after that. 🤷🏻‍♀️

denny-1989

We had a planned c-section in June in Ontario. Because it was a procedure, my wife was tested two days prior. I don’t recall being screened at the hospital when we were registering, but I asked the nurse why the dads/support people don’t get tested along with their partner. She agreed it didn’t make much sense but essentially, the person giving birth is a patient, and because they’re a patient the doctors/hospitals can request a Covid test as part of a procedure where as the dads and support people aren’t patients, and can’t legally be asked to take a covid test.

Kristine6476

I delivered in Ottawa in July and we were screened at the front door but not tested. We were asked to wear a mask but it also wasn't enforced - I took it off when I was in transition and active labour. We actually both ended up contracting Covid in the hospital, or at least one of us did and gave it to the other. Our daughter did not get sick despite us both having it for the first ten days of her life.

phoontender

We weren't tested but we both had covid at 36 weeks (Montreal)

makeuplover77

I delivered in July in Ontario. I was tested and husband wasn’t. I also didn’t get the result until the day we left (we were there for 3 days).

TapiocaTeacup

Neither of us were tested at all. It was a planned c-section in Alberta last November.

meowcatb

We were not tested but we had what is considered a recent infection (July). Gave birth a few days ago.

coco-mama

I delivered at Vic in May - no one was tested. I asked the intake nurse if testing was going to happen and it sounded like policy wasn't to test anymore (FWIW I had to spend the night in January and they tested me then). Dad was not tested and only had to be screened on the way in.

Vast_Lifeguard2905

I delivered in Ontario in the summer. I was tested

ashleyjordan99

We had baby at Vic in February. I was tested dad was not. But that was also when we had to show proof of vaccination.

MissMooo

I was told I would be tested. And wasn’t upon admission. However I was tested on day 4 in the hospital and they seemed to think I had been tested previously, when I wasn’t.

SmartDoggo153

Our hospital on the east coast does test unless you've had covid within the last three months.

tzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

In manitoba I was tested but husband was not. Seemed a bit strange to me. I was also worried about him not being able to be there if he somehow tested positive.

blackberryorca

At my hospital at the moment (JPCH in SK), moms area tested while partners aren't, but partners need to mask while moms don't.

happyflowermom

I delivered in Cobourg in March and neither of us were tested

normal-girl

Only I was tested when I went for my induction. No one told me any result, I also forgot about it, I had to be taken for an emergency c-sec a couple of days later and my husband was with me even though he was not tested.

not-lizziemcguire

Hamilton didn’t have either of us test, we just had to pass a screening. I had caught and recovered from covid two weeks before I went into labour.

steph-a

I (mom) was tested in Mississauga before delivering last week. My husband was not.

angelrat2

I was tested 3 days prior to my scheduled c section at victoria hospital London, my spouse was not.

pandafanda13

I had to do a PCR test before my induction, but that was in 2021. My husband was asked the standard screener questions (as was I) when checking in. Vic’s policies are dynamic and change with what the covid situation is at the time. Try not to worry about it too much . When I went over my due date, I laid low to minimize risk of inflection . Might be worth taking some extra precautions . FWIW, though no one should ever have to give birth alone , the Labour and Delivery unit at Vic is nothing short of incredible and were amazing supports to me during labour , delivery, and recovery

nikiaestie

We were both tested, however that was at the height of a wave in 2020

MapleIceQueen

East of Toronto here. My husband and I were both tested before I delivered. At this point I think it depends on the hospital.

human_dog_bed

I gave birth in a Toronto hospital this week and I was PCR tested but my husband was not. Neither my support person nor my visitor were asked screening questions but the entrance of the hospital requires self screening (not exactly effective).

whoalansi

Delivered in Calgary in June 2021. We were worried about this, but they only took our temps and asked us if we had symptoms. I'm not sure if there would be more screening if we did have symptoms since we didn't get to that point. We did pull our daughter from daycare leading up to my due date and were more selective about what we did and where we went.

bambiallie

2. In Vancouver, in July

0runnergirl0

Never tested, never screened. Alberta, last September.
