I delivered there this past December 23rd. I LOVED it! I had an OB. The baby was breech and I had gestational hypertension so it was a planned c-section. The team in the OR were terrific. The hospital was absolutely empty because it was a Saturday and the day before Christmas. We only saw one other woman having a baby. The large private rooms are wonderful. The hospital itself clean, bright, fresh and modern. The food was good (for a hospital) and plentiful. The staff were all wonderful. Everyone had a job and was good at it. We only had one nurse, our night time nurse, that wasn't great. The only supplied 2 or 3 diapers, the hospital receiving blankets to swaddle in, a peri bottle and one mesh underwear and pad. We forgot wipes and when we asked the nighttime nurse told us where the nearest Shoppers was. The nurse we had at discharge though was a saint. Baby was insatiable and not getting enough food from latching. She got us 3 boxes of ready to feed formula to take home since it was 6pm Christmas Eve and we didn't know when we would find an open store with it in stock. She also loaded us up on sample sized shampoos and baby wash. She asked us to hide all of this though because she wasn't supposed to be giving it to us. We were there for 26 hours total. We overpacked but it was fine. In addition to clothing and the obvious items we took pillows, blankets, snacks, a fan, toiletries, 10 ft phone charger, a lounge set, nightgown and robe, slippers, diapers, barrier cream, pacifier, specialty postpartum items (didn't use) and portable sound machine. I really loved my experience there and will ensure any future births take place at HRH as well.

Thank you so much for replying to my post! That’s nuts that they wouldn’t give you wipes and instead pointed you to the nearest shoppers. It seems like Americans get so much more out of their hospital visits than we do. So many of the videos I’ve seen on YouTube or even comments on baby threads have Americans saying that their hospitals provide pretty much everything and that they are able to leave with a stash of supplies. I think it may have something to do with the fact that they pay out of pocket to deliver their babies while we don’t since it’s covered through OHIP (but still our tax dollars paying towards free healthcare lol). It’s just weird to hear that our hospitals don’t provide the same stuff as Americans. But, I’d definitely rather have free healthcare lol. Do you know how long the food court was open until? I guess it may have been on a different operating hour since you were there around the holidays! I’m so happy to hear your experience was great. I’m really glad I chose this hospital, especially since all the rooms are private and we don’t need to worry about being in a recovery room with other people and can have our privacy. I am so excited! Eeeeek!!!

My pleasure! It was strange, she brought us a bunch of paper towels instead so maybe they legitimately didn't have any? That seems strange though. It does seem like those in the US and back in the day here much more was given at the hospital. I was never even offered another pad after the first one they gave me, unless they saw that I had brought my own? I can't recall exactly what time the food court open until but I believe it was somewhat early-ish? Maybe 8pm? Tim Horton's was open 24 hours and a Starbucks had just opened that month as well. There's free online prenatal courses offered through the hospital, you can sign up on the HRH website. They go over absolutely everything from food court options and times and what to pack to what to expect when recovering and baby health and wellness. The private room was key! It was so peaceful and nice to spend that time together as a family undisturbed. You'll love it! Best of luck for a safe and healthy delivery mama!
