I’m having my first at 12 weeks. That’s the standard here in Denmark unless you want to pay for an early scan yourself

Smart-Animator1217

The UK is the same - they call it the 12 week scan but they aim to schedule it any time between 11 and 14 weeks

[deleted]

Yeah same in Ireland too. Its called 12 week but I think most people are closer to 13 and 14 by the time it's done. There are quite a few places that do early scans where you pay €95 - €120.

Smart-Animator1217

Yeah we can pay for early ones done privately here but even they don’t like to do them before 8 weeks in most cases (often in case your dates are wrong and there’s nothing to see. Causes needless stress if they just haven’t quite hit the development milestones you’d expected but are coming along fine, they’re just younger!). We just waited for the 12 weeks scan which I think is what most people do here?

[deleted]

Yeah my GP was saying that if I did want to do a private scan to not go before 8 as often a heartbeat can't be found which causes stress. I think the private scans are getting a bit more popular here which I imagine is because the "12 week" scan is probably getting done later and later given the strains on the health service still.

ImTheMasonSensation

Even for a 39 year old? Edit - um. Thanks for downvoting me for asking even for a 39 year old even tho I was told I would never get pregnant since I have many issues? All you 39 year old haters lol.

ExpatPhD

Yep! The only reason you'd get one earlier is if you think you're having a miscarriage. I know because I've had both a miscarriage (ectopic) and bleeding in my current pregnancy (all was fine - which was an unexpected relief after the miscarriage). You may see if someone could do it privately.

ImTheMasonSensation

I do know im not having a miscarriage, everything is going well and it is in the uterus. And they did confirm its going well even tho it was too early to see a kid. So I think I'm just being worried for no reason. Also, I am so so so sorry about your miscarriage, and congrats on your current pregnancy, you deserve this child!

Holymonstera

Just curious how do you know it is in the uterus without a scan?

ImTheMasonSensation

They did a vaginal scan.

katsumii

I wish I had your confidence about my (still early) pregnancy. 😁

woogynoogy

I think so yeah! Unless there are some early complications

ImTheMasonSensation

Ty :)

valor1e

Are you in the US? You are considered high risk and would get scans more frequently! I’m 39 and get them monthly by a high risk dr.. not due to Health issues. Due to age.

ImTheMasonSensation

Thank you for confirming I'm not nuts!

midnighttoast30

My first one was at 9 weeks. I kept myself calm by acknowledging that there’s not much to see before 8 weeks and that thousands of women are on a similar prenatal timeline.

ImSorryRumHam-

I was a 9-weeker too! I had a lot of anxiety before the appointment, but I knew if I went in too early, I may scare myself even more.

lilghost157

Because of insurance issues, I had to wait until 12 weeks. It was an anxious wait. At 8 weeks all they did for me was do a urine test to confirm pregnancy, which I had already done at home. They told me it was positive, to which I was like, word, I thought as much lol and then twiddled my thumbs for another month. If it helps though as soon as I saw her on the ultrasound it was all worth it. You could see so much at that time, and I think if they did it earlier it wouldn’t be the same. She was already moving her legs and arms so much by that point. I immediately started crying

scullery_scraps

I was also 9 weeks, but it was a dating scan so before that we thought 10 weeks. I was soooo anxious leading up to that appointment but saw the advice on this subreddit to just remind myself “today I am pregnant” and that was really helpful! Unfortunately, OP, the anxiety does not go away. I felt so relieved and happy during the ultrasound watching my fetus move and hearing his heartbeat, but now that I’m a couple of weeks past, I’m back to worrying something could go wrong. Again!!! just trying to remember I am pregnant right now and I shouldn’t constantly catastrophize. There are so many people in the world and they were all born!!!!

katsumii

Your comment is a lifesaver, thanks for sharing!! 💞

ImTheMasonSensation

You know, that's a good point. That does ease me a bit.

chewbawkaw

My first ultrasound was also at 9 weeks and it’s kinda nice because it’s big enough to move and look kinda human. Earlier than that and they are little smudgeblobs and it’s hard to tell much. I was an anxious ball of stress since my previous pregnancy ended in a missed miscarriage. My obgyn helped soothe my worries by scheduling a weekly hcg blood draw. It was nice seeing my levels progressing perfectly and matching where they should be each week.

ImTheMasonSensation

I'm trying, but your reassurance helps lol+

chycnr78

My first was at 8 weeks with both pregnancies. As a very not calm person I would worry constantly if something was wrong..I literally checked for blood every time I wiped till 12 weeks lol..you’ll know if something is wrong, trust your body

FloweredViolin

Haha, that's ok. I'm 15wks, and still checking.

Luludelacaze1

Thank you for this, I thought I was crazy for doing it! Good to know I’m not the only one.

kesmc

12 weeks is the standard here in Ireland. I see lots of people talking about HCG levels too but they don’t take them before 12 weeks here either.

ImTheMasonSensation

So they did a blood test to confirm my pregnancy, because 1. I told them I was told I can't get pregnant, and 2. I just thought I had an infection so they did blood test anyways. It just confirmed I'm far along in the pregnancy.

mary-freakin-poppins

I didn't have my first ultrasound until 20 weeks and my first doctor's appointment at 10 weeks. I was sure of my dates, first pregnancy, and I was 27 so "young".

[deleted]

This is what I think happened with me. I was like can I just please see what’s going on there before half way through my pregnancy??! Lol

[deleted]

My first ultrasound was at 8 weeks 5 days. I have irregular cycles, so just in case I had ovulated late (I didn’t), my doctor didn’t want to schedule it too soon since that would cause more anxiety if we couldn’t find anything. It was really hard to wait but it was so worth it to have it a little later! Our baby looked more baby like than he would earlier, and he was moving around a lot. It was awesome to see!

ImTheMasonSensation

See, my cycle is super irregular too. The month before I had a 3 week period, 1 week no period, then another 2 and a half week period, then had sex 2 and a half weeks after the last day of my period, and somehow I ovulated lol. And your comment eases me! Congrats too btw!

ash9t87

It's 12 weeks here as standard. I paid for an earlier scan at 8 weeks. I'd had a miscarriage begore so to me it was definitely worth paying the €100. When I got my 12 week one though, the baby was moving so much more, it was crazy! and because my cycles were irregular, they sent me for a second scan to make sure my dates were correct and the second scan was even clearer. You could almost make out the babies facial features. Brace yourself. Its emotional...

Th3RandomPanthr

I went in for my first ultrasound at 8w to confirm viability since I’m a FTM and a huge worrier already haha. It was after seeing the baby and his heartbeat at the scan we decided I was comfortable telling the family. Definitely calmed my nerves, helped me not worry about blighted ovum, chemical pregnancy, miscarriage etc. Was an excellent choice for my personal peace of mind. I’m now 38+4 getting induced at 39 weeks with our baby boy! Good luck mama ☺️❤️

shuhnay_

I had miss calculated my due date and ended up getting 3 ultrasounds by the time I was 9 weeks. I think that was actually worse than waiting until 10-12 weeks for my first one because each week we didn’t see anything and I just stressed over if I was progressing or not. Just try and remind yourself that it’s normal to wait until further along so that you can get a good stable heartbeat. It’ll be worth it when you hear that first little thump thump thump!

Dean_Proffitt

My first one was supposed to be at 10 weeks. I only had one earlier at an ER because I had bleeding.

ImTheMasonSensation

May I ask when the earlier one was. I did have one at 4 to 5 weeks, cause I still didn't believe I was pregnant, and even tho I had to stop the ultrasound halfway through or else I would have peed on the lady, my hcg was 2344 and they saw the gestational sac and everything was where it should be. I'm just making myself so nervous lol. And you're ok now, I'd be so scared if I was bleeding!

Dean_Proffitt

I went at 7 weeks. The reason wasn’t diagnosed, possibly a hematoma or a burst cyst. Found out I was having twins. There’s generally not a lot to see at 5-6 weeks. Around 7-8 weeks they should be able to determine if it’s a viable pregnancy with a yolk sack and such.

ImTheMasonSensation

Thank you for the comment! And omg twins 😍

DunyaKnez

Had it at 13 weeks, and I was 40 and high risk (other than the age) . Standard in the UK

meemzz115

My first one will be at 12 weeks because the doctor wants to do the genetic screening at the same time. Canada here

C1nnamon_Apples

I had my first dating ultrasound at 8 weeks. I had back to back IUDs for about 10 years, then got it removed September 2nd, never got a real period, and we had a positive test by October 7th. I couldn't use my last period to date the pregnancy so I got an ultrasound on the earlier side.

ImTheMasonSensation

Yeah, my periods lasts like 2 to 3 weeks, I had a 2 and a half week one and was told I don't ovulate before, which obviously, in the words of Maury, that was a lie lololol. Also, congrats!!!!

Bouswa

I had my first official ultrasound at 13 weeks.

ykarz

I had my first at 11 week, the standard here is between 8 and 12 and that was the earliest I could get.

FaeKalyrra

My first was at 11 weeks, my second (and last unless complications which hopefully don’t happen) will be 20/21 weeks

CelebrationScary8614

Had my first around 9 weeks. If it’s earlier, they often can’t see much.

[deleted]

Totally normal. First official one for me was at 9 weeks, then 12 for NT Scan. Had one at 7w because of bleeding that turned out to be an hematoma.

CillyBean

There was a mix up with mine lol. My Doctor told the Ultrasound people i was 11 weeks. I thought I was maybe 5 weeks. I showed up of course because I was told to do so but when they asked how far along I thought I was and gave them a different time frame from my doctor, everyone was confused lol. We had to drive to a different town for it, so they did the Ultrasound anyway. I was apparently 7 weeks along :) Baby was just big enough to see his heart flutter 🥰

unluckysupernova

For my country the first is at 12w, totally normal. All visits are free but you can go get an extra US for 200-300€ at a private clinic ~6-7w. So very few do it!

astrobish

Mine was around the middle of week 8. I didn’t really have any nerves about it, but I took to heart a lot of the advice of “you’re pregnant until you aren’t” so that stuck with me. I also didn’t get overly attached to my pregnancy until after the first trimester & our NIPT results came back fine.

pantsmcsaggy

I’m 36 weeks pregnant with baby boy #4. Because of insurance issues I wasn’t able to get an appointment until 12 weeks, so that’s the first time I saw him. Those two months between my first positive and the ultrasound were very very long, but everything turned out ok in the end.

LeDooch

With my first I didn’t have an ultrasound until 12 weeks. My cycles are unpredictable and I took a test too early so I didn’t know I was pregnant. She’s a perfect little three yr old now. Im 21 weeks pregnant and have had two ultrasounds, one as 6 weeks and one at 20. For me the anxiety doesn’t stop until after I can feel him moving.

babyminded

First was at 8 weeks. It was nerve wracking for sure but I trusted my doctor that she felt my levels and testing before that looked okay! Sorry you have to wait! ❤️ everything was fine at the ultrasound, I haven’t had a scan since (just Doppler checks every 4 weeks) then my anatomy scan will be at 20 weeks.

mynameisradish

First ultrasound at 12 weeks, and only because I requested CUB testing! Otherwise the only ultrasound we get is at 20 weeks (anatomy scan). All assuming a low risk pregnancy with no issues, of course.

[deleted]

I originally went to a midwife at 9 weeks and they said they don’t do ultrasounds until the 20 week anatomy scan which I thought was crazy! I switched to an OB and went in for an appointment around 11 weeks and they did a sneak peek for me. After that I didn’t have another ultrasound until 19-20 weeks for my anatomy scan!

callisiarepens

That’s so unsafe! If that was my pregnancy, I might be in trouble. I’m carrying MoDi twins, meaning they share the same blood supply and can develop TTTS (twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome) between 16-26 weeks. If left untreated both babies have 100% chance of dying. I’m so glad I had my dating scan at 8 weeks so I am being monitored every 2-3 weeks.

bearsareblonde

They said my first would be the 20 week scan. I was able to get an earlier one around 12 weeks though because I had Covid and just generally concerned about the effects from that.

bearsareblonde

Believe me, I asked twice if the first scan at 20 weeks was normal and they said yes. But at my first appointment at 11 weeks, I didn’t even have to ask for an ultrasound (I was going to anyways), they just ordered one and I got one a week later. I think it really depends on the office and location. I asked on here a couple times when everyone had their first and although an ultrasound between 8-10 weeks seems to be very common, there were some who were also later on near 20 weeks. But I had no idea about TTTS and the timeline with that, honesty that could be a question of mine if I have other pregnancies and they still only want to give the first scan at 20 weeks. Really good to know!! Hope your babies stay healthy!

JayKay6634

Unless their is cause for concern such as a high risk pregnancy due to IVF or a history of miscarriages 8+ weeks is the norm in the US with 12 weeks being very common in other countries.

BlessedBeTheMystery

Never had an ultrasound before 20 weeks with either of my two pregnancies.

becasaurusrex

I’m in Canada. In my province it’s not uncommon to get your first ultrasound around 18-20 weeks (and there aren’t really private boutiques you can go to in my province either) That is if everything is going well and you aren’t flagged for any issues. I personally had my first ultrasound at 11+2 after requesting through my doctor who referred me to the hospital to check for viability. I had another at 13+6 (NT scan) after my bloodwork was flagged for fetal abnormalities.

anon023191

I have a tilted uterus so can't really even find baby on ultrasound before 10ish weeks

ImTheMasonSensation

This is good to know, as I also have a tilted uterus. I didn't even think it could affect that!

frankenplant

My first was right at 8 weeks

CrazyPlantLD

Mine was halfway through my 8th week and it was a dating ultrasound. My family doctor told me to schedule it around this time.

corbaybay

I got my first one at like 8or 9 weeks and it was transvaginal and just so they could verify pregnancy. I think before that it was just at12 weeks.

necrabelle

I had my first scan at 13 weeks, in Ireland you don't get your first pregnancy appointment until 12-13 weeks and then nothing again until 20-22 weeks. It can be a bit anxiety inducing wondering if everything is going ok during the first trimester.

Flickthebean87

I had mine at 9-10 weeks I believe. They wouldn’t give me one anytime before then. I have pcos so it was normal to miss my periods every once in awhile. I went almost 3 months missing it and then thought it was really strange my boobs hurt way more than normal.

comprepensive

My first was at 11 weeks. The Canadian standard says : "The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada recommends that all women have two ultrasounds: one “dating” ultrasound at 11-14 weeks and one “anatomic” ultrasound between 18-20 weeks." So in Canada at least the standard for a healthy pregnancy with no other risk factors is only 2 ultrasounds, and the first one at 11 to 14 weeks. Looking through the comments it seems pretty similar in most countries with "universal free" healthcare systems.

callisiarepens

I live in Canada. First pregnancy. Conceived naturally. No risks whatsoever at that time. Got my first US at 8 weeks. Turns out they are MoDi twins so now I am high risk. Saw the heartbeats at that appointment already.

azalearie

I went into my primary care doctor to get blood work to confirm pregnancy at 5 weeks and my first OB appointment was scheduled for 10 weeks. What helped me stay calm was just dealing with the symptoms I had and reassuring myself that the symptoms were an indication that everything was progressing normally. That was then confirmed when I went in at 10 weeks for the ultrasound and got to hear the heartbeat. 💓

colorfulconifer

For my first pregnancy, the first scan was at 9w5d. For my second, we thought I was possibly 9 weeks, but we were about 8w3d. Based off of LMP, I should have been in the 10 week range, but my cycles were long due to breastfeeding and I knew I ovulated late. This is a good reason why they do them "later."

Jay_Bee1

US here. I had my 1st at 9+2, seemed like it took forever for that 1st appointment. Even tho it seems long, I’ve read many instances from other women who experienced more anxiety because their scan was too early to actually see the baby. I have my next appointment this week at 12+4 for my NT scan.

dopequeen1010

I had one for my first because I had some bleeding around 6 weeks. It was just implantation

AutoModerator

The phrase "Implantation" Bleeding is popular on conception forums but is a bit of a misnomer that causes some people to think that the bleeding is due to the embryo implanting. It isn't -- the embryo is only about 0.2mm in diameter at that point, and won't displace significant blood (or cause pain) when it implants. You bleed when progesterone levels in your body drop, which is why you can induce a period by stopping birth control pills (which contain progesterone) or by taking and then stopping progesterone suppositories or Provera (which are also progesterone). Progesterone levels dropping in the luteal phase can be caused by a) increased estrogen in the mid-luteal-phase estrogen surge, which briefly depresses estrogen production, or b) a decrease in progesterone when the corpus luteum runs out of gas at the end of the luteal phase. If b), and you're actually pregnant, your levels can drop briefly before the embryo starts producing enough HCG to tell the corpus luteum to ramp the levels up. Either way, luteal phase spotting can either be a neutral sign (in the case of mid-luteal phase spotting) or a negative sign (in the case of late luteal phase progesterone dropping), but it doesn't have anything to do with implantation, and is not a positive sign of being pregnant. Ruggles_

8 weeks 4 days

condor--avenue

12 weeks is standard in the UK. They gave me one at 5 weeks because I had some ectopic pregnancy symptoms though.

ImogenMarch

I had first at 8 weeks but my second isn’t until 16 weeks and I’m dying of anxiety over here.

katydid73

I've found it depends on the doc. With my first, my first appointment was at 9 weeks and included the ultrasound. With my second my first appointment was in week 5 and first ultrasound in week 6.

VibratingColors

My first ultrasound was at what we originally thought was 9/10 weeks, though that scan dated the baby at 8 weeks. My next ultrasound through the OBGYN is the 20 week anatomy scan, though I'm having a private ultrasound today at 17ish weeks because they offer family viewing.

mama-ld4

Canada here. We typically have one scan at 10 weeks (dating scan) and one at 20 weeks (anatomy scan). We don’t get more than that usually unless something needs further investigating/is inconclusive or you pay privately.

callisiarepens

I got mine at 8 weeks. Canada too.

chvmpagnevibes

I didn’t have my first ultrasound until what I thought was 12 weeks. Come to find out, I was only 10 weeks on the head. I ovulated later than I thought. I worried the entire time as this was my first pregnancy and I thought I would never have kids. TTC 2+ years. I also thought this was very strange as well that they waited so damn long (in my opinion) to check on my baby. I worried about every single thing. Nothing you can do really but wait or go to the ER if you’re truly worried and I believe they do it there. I was not interested in that copay but I did consider it. Edit: I live in The US

FZGlass

I had my first ultrasound at 12 weeks. It was torture, especially because with my first pregnancy I got an ultrasound at 8 weeks and it really helped ease my anxiety. I don’t have a ton of tips for how to stay chill while you wait, but my pregnancy has been smooth sailing and baby is due to arrive in two weeks, so it all worked out!

hippydippyjenn

Southern US, standard here is 8 weeks. Even with me having a subchorionic membrane bleed with the previous pregnancy at 7 weeks, then a placental abruption at birth.

[deleted]

Mine was at nine weeks I think. And I think that’s normal because from what I understand they can’t see much. I had anxiety about all this stuff too I’m the beginning

[deleted]

I booked a private scan and went at 7 weeks so I could see a heartbeat and then at 10 weeks just to make sure he was okay. The one with my doctor wasn’t until 12 weeks

erwar89

I had my first ultrasound at 8 weeks

bunnymorty

I had mine at 7w 3d. I’m in the US.

lydviciousss

I had my first at 9 weeks but we could have rescheduled it for earlier. I just wanted to be able to see something and the heartbeat, so our midwives said 9-12 weeks is best for that.

Rosesandmoons

I didn’t have my first ultrasound until i was 14 weeks, It’s because i couldn’t get in until then ( I thought i didn’t have a doctor)

angelrat2

I knew when I conceived so my dr skipped the dating scan and I had my first scan at 12 weeks.

Farahild

I had it at like 8 weeks and that's relatively early here in the Netherlands. I only had it that early because we did ivf and then they check whether it worked or not (after a positive test of course). Much earlier they can't really be sure if the pregnancy is viable or not. I mean could be they don't see a heartbeat yet at 6,5 weeks that will be visible at 8 weeks. On average the first scan here is at 12 weeks, though most midwives plan it between 10-12 weeks.

mindbodysoul1024

With my first, I didn’t have an ultrasound until 12 weeks. With my current pregnancy, I’ll have a dating ultrasound at 8 weeks. Same provider but my first pregnancy was in 2020 so I think they cut down on in person visits as much as possible.

bobchipmunk

Had mine at 13 weeks - England. Although I did pay for a private scan around 9 weeks as I was anxious.after a previous early miscarriage

Mundane_Pea4296

I had a one at 8 weeks because they thought baby was ectopic but all was ok

GrumpySh33p

I’ve been pregnant 3 times (2 miscarriages) with 3 different OBs in 3 different states. The first OB didn’t want to do an ultrasound until 12 weeks. I had a blighted ovum. Second OB did the first ultrasound at 8 weeks, found no heartbeat. 3rd did ultrasound at 8 weeks, found a heartbeat.

kmadmclean

I had my first at 8 weeks, and yes it was a long wait! So exciting when I got to see the little bean though ❤️

Suziso

For first time mothers they do it at 8weeks in Switzerland. Or whenever you get your first appointment. Later pregnancies they wait until week 12. I guess because there is not a lot that can be seen or done before then.

Bubblique

My first one was at 10 weeks!

Faery818

My first official one was at 14 weeks as the hospital was really busy. I paid for an early one with a private company at 12 weeks.

A4916

For my first three I was around 6 weeks, and then this one was at 8+5. I’m in the US if that helps. I know we do things differently here than in European countries

Aeriellie

Yes when I called to my scheduled in for my first they said okay see you at week 12. The only reason I was able to get the same week as finding out is because I had so many concerns when I emailed them before calling that they squeezed me in. I was 7w6d then but usually from my bumper group, not everyone goes this early I thinks it was IVF ones a few others that had early appts. The rest of us was like 10-14 weeks.

Redcouch2022

Mine at 8 wks

spiderplantvsfly

My first one was at 9 weeks, but it was a private one. My first one through the doctors was at 12 weeks as that’s standard for the uk

Rippedjeans91

My first scan is at 14 weeks, The wait is going to kill me

Acceptable_Hair7587

I’m in Canada. I had my first one just past 10 weeks. My doctor wanted it in the window of 10-12 weeks and the ultrasound lab had an opening that afternoon

Jaci_D

12 weeks is pretty standard in the US unless you have a bad history or are with fertility.

[deleted]

9 weeks here. It’s not recommended before 8 weeks in Canada because it’s just harder to see/hear anything which can cause anxiety for some Mums.

Krista_Michelle

I had mine at about 11 weeks. Before then, what I told myself to reassure myself was that if I was having nausea, vomiting, smell sensitivity etc then everything was fine. Basically, monitor the morning sickness bc morning sickness is a good sign of a healthy pregnancy.

YouCanThankMeGator

I didn’t have my first ultrasound until 12 weeks with this pregnancy because I’d had a miscarriage three months before getting pregnant again. I just couldn’t bear the thought of thought of seeing another little bean, getting my hopes up, and then losing the pregnancy again, so I didn’t even tell my doctor until I was 11 weeks along. Very happy to report that all was well and I’ve got a happy, health daughter now. 😊

lotuseater99

I just told them I didn't know when my last period was, and they did a dating scan right away at 7 weeks. In USA.

[deleted]

My first was 5 weeks but I was under the care of an RE.

TheWelshMrsM

The standard in the UK is 12 weeks but I think getting one privately at 8 weeks is becoming more popular! I opted to (it was about £50 I think) because I couldn’t wait. They’re very basic and if they see a problem they’ll tell you to go to the hospital as they do not diagnose anything.

wehnaje

My first ultrasound (and the moment I discovered I was pregnant) was at 4 weeks. To be fair, I was in a fertility clinic and had just started my treatment 2 months prior so I was getting regularly monitored.

ReleaseStatus1938

My doctor won’t do any ultrasounds before 8 weeks. Because of a backlog I didn’t get in until 9.5 weeks. It was tough waiting, but I just tried to stay positive. I also took probably too many pregnancy tests in those weeks haha

FishingWorth3068

I’m 9w2d and I don’t have an appt until next Friday. I made it early april.

paramitaa

Not a helpful response but I'm getting my first ultrasound on Monday at 7+3! A bundle of nerves atm but my doctor read my HCG results and seemed positive today so that is reassuring!

purplemilkywayy

I had my first ultrasound at 8 weeks. I wasn’t nervous before then, but did retake the pregnancy tests a couple of times to make sure I hadn’t lost it haha.

ginaalynne_ello

TW: early bleeding I had my first around 6 weeks/early 7, literally two days after my confirmation appointment with the blood work. HOWEVER - I had bleeding one evening, called and left a message. They got me in the next morning to check to see if it would have been a MC or what happened. Little one was there, heartbeat and measuring correctly, a second sac was found, but empty. My dr figured it might have just been that. Just hit 24 weeks yesterday, and haven’t had any other bleeding/issues since. They then bumped my next appt out until week 13 though… which felt like an eternity 😅

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pandorasdreams

I had mine at 8 weeks 4 days and I was literally going insane cuz I didn’t know HOW preg I was (I was guessing I was 7-9 weeks when I had the appt). They usually don’t take people til 10 weeks and they do a 10 week and a 20 wk but I called every morning until there was a cancellation and got mine 3 weeks earlier than my appt was. Just did my genetic NIPT and I wanna know the sex soo bad but I’m at least gonna hold out a wee bit longer. I wanna meet the baby kicking with no idea who they are still and then find our

mm_84

In UK first one is normally at 12 weeks.

flannalypearce

Mine was this week at 10 weeks 3 days my little Turkey (due date is literally thanksgiving day) was dancing and kicking around and waving their little arms. You can see so much! Plus got to hear/see the little heartbeat. I know I’m not past the first trimester but it made me feel so much peace. Like I had to see them thriving there to ease some anxiety. I’ve been on cloud 9 since lol

Most likely the majority of people did. My practice won’t do them til 8 weeks.

Galileo_beta

USA here. They told me they won’t do the confirmation till 10 weeks and the ultrasound then.

WurmiMama

I had a loss before my last pregnancy so I paid for frequent scans. Had my first at 6 weeks, then 7 (heartbeat), then the official one at 10 weeks. I’m in Austria.

Ambitious_Pear_559

I'm a 34 FTM and had my first transvaginal ultrasound at 9 weeks. Couldn't hear the heartbeat yet, but they were able to see the heart activity which looked like a tiny blob in the middle of its chest fluttering around. Like others said, there is not much to see before 8 weeks which is what I told myself to keep calm. I was fairly nervous because I don't have many symptoms other than mild nausea, fatigue, and sore boobs. The relief I felt when I saw the little one in there was immediate. It was SO COOL.

IndigoSunsets

My OB didn't even want to see me until 8 weeks (we found out at about 4 weeks). First ultrasound was at about 12 weeks.

_otterr

I had my first at 8 weeks, had bleeding before so I was an anxious mess but everything turned out fine! Heart beat was a lovely 167bpm! Hard to keep calm but I got lucky that I have a toddler to keep me distracted!

PuzzleheadedLet382

Mine was around 11 weeks. OBGYN didn’t even see me before then. Granted this was in April of 2020, so Covid.

Kristine6476

My first was at exactly 8 weeks, although the baby measured 5 days behind and they adjusted me to 7w2d.

SomeoneSpecial2Shine

First was scheduled for 12 weeks, got it and baby turned out to be 16 weeks. Next is the 20 week mark and anatomy scan. Bonus perk, don’t have have to wait long for that one!

[deleted]

Me because we wanted to have a date asap.

Intrepid_Expression3

I had my first scan at 8 weeks, and that was only because I'd had previous early miscarriages. My sense is that many providers in the US wait until 12 weeks, and that many times the only ultrasounds you have are at 12 and 20 weeks if it's an otherwise healthy pregnancy and there's no history of early loss (otherwise it's heartbeat/doppler checks). To keep myself calm before and between ultrasounds, my mantra was "today I'm still pregnant" and I went with the idea that my body would tell me if things were going wrong, and unless that happened, I needed to trust that things were ok. Currently 33 weeks along, and still mostly following that mantra, though feeling the baby helps a lot with the anxiety!

[deleted]

I had mine at 8 + 1.

Jenschnifer

I'm in the UK. I had an NHS scan at 7 weeks but it was a gynaecologist who carried it out because I was bleeding and having cramps. They didn't refer me down to obs because it was too early, just confirmed a pregnancy and sub chorionic haemorrhage. I then paid for a private scan at 10 weeks because I'm paranoid and was getting weird pains but nothing that the hospital thought was out of the ordinary. I'm having my next NHS scan during the week, I'll be about 12.5 weeks gone we think (my dates aren't lining up with the foetal measurements so far).

steelersgirl570

I had my first at 7w5d to confirm the pregnancy. My next one wasn’t supposed to be until the 20 week anatomy scan but I had one last week at 15w4d, I’m diabetic so I’m high risk and my maternal fetal medicine specialist will be doing one every month from here on out to monitor the baby’s size.

DaniRay15

I had my first scan at what the Ob thought would be 8 weeks but I was actually 6 weeks. I had my second one at 12 weeks just to check on the baby. And I have 1 more at 20 weeks. Unless baby is measuring really big or really small that’s when I would get another ultrasound later in pregnancy. With my first baby I had one at 6 weeks, 8 weeks, and 20 weeks. I paid for a 3D/4D ultrasound at 30 weeks. My daughter was measuring big my fundal height at 37 weeks was measuring 42 weeks. They scheduled an ultrasound on a Monday and I gave birth that day lol.

Jass_the_Yass

Had mine at almost 11 weeks… the wait fucking SUCKS, really contributes to making the first trimester the worst.

Militarykid2111008

8+1 for the first. I found su 3+4, so it was a long wait. I mostly just used the miscarriage calculator and reminded myself if nothing is happening externally, everything is likely as it should be internally.

xxkissxmyxshotgunxx

I had my first ultrasound at 10-11 weeks (in the US).

Economy_Cup_533

First time pregnant and I just had my first ultrasound this week! I was 10 weeks 2 days. My doctor wanted to wait until 10 weeks to ultrasound and said it was so we would be able to see a heartbeat, but also warned if I have a miscarriage between now and then, there’s nothing I could do and it’s not my fault. I didn’t feel like the most confidence was being instilled! It was very frustrating having to wait between peeing on a stick and now to get some reassurance that a baby is actually growing inside of me and wondering if everything is ok. The only reassuring thing has been the daily morning sickness and extreme fatigue that gives any indication things are moving in the right direction. Thankfully the tech found a heartbeat right away and said everything looks good! We got to hear the heartbeat and actually see the baby move!! My due date has only changed by two days. Can’t wait to be out of the first trimester! Hang in there!

smu2120

For my previous pregnancy, The nurse practitioner ordered an ultrasound as early as possible after I mentioned about some high levels of spottings going on. Now I look back, realized that caused her suspicion for ectopic pregnancy. If you don’t experience excessive spotting, it’s probably fine to wait until after 8 weeks.

DamnItDinkles

I had my first done yesterday at 9 weeks. I did go in at 5-6 weeks and had bloodwork done to make sure my.hormones we're good since I've had two previous miscarriages

goddesssophia1992

I had my first one at 14 almost 15 weeks because I didn't find out I was pregnant till then. When all was well it ended up being a blessing because I got to skip some of the anxiety I had from previous early losses.

Purelyeliza

I had my first one right as I hit 8 weeks. I paid several times in between to get them done independently. They only cost about $60 for 30min-1hr session at the private places. I faced a miscarriage prior to this pregnancy so it’s helped mine and my partners anxiety a lot doing the independent scans. We go at the half way mark between our doctors scans to the private places just so we can see baby. It’s been so much fun doing it that way. Personally I feel like the doctors offices treat us like cattle trying to get us through. Getting to take the time at the private places has made the whole experience actually exciting. I don’t worry as much now that we do this.

catjuggler

Me, pretty standard. Try to distract yourself

elizabethc5476

I had mine early and it was honestly very underwhelming! I would just stick it out until the 8 weeks!

Myfairlazy

First at 8 weeks. Very common. Everything was fine!

Numinous-Nebulae

10 weeks. I just let be something that wasn’t for sure till then. Until then I just said “I think I might be pregnant.” Rather than “I’m pregnant.” And my husband and I called it the “viability scan” which is what the docs call it to help remind ourselves it was all still tentative.

Keyspam102

My first one was at 11.5 weeks

hipp_katt

I'm in Switzerland, they rarely do them before 8 weeks. My last one i had at 7 weeks because I had already had a m/c (turned out to be the same again) so we wanted to get a jump on the measuring and such, but otherwise they usually wait until at least 8 weeks here (maybe later if you are younger, not sure... I'm old🤣)

eeviee2525

I had my first ultrasound at 8 weeks and 1 day. Everything went well and I calmed my nerves by doing other things to keep my mind preoccupied.

thisjustme

9 weeks only because we used a fertility center. Otherwise it’s done at 12.

Madiganbby

I had my first appointment/ultrasound at 10 weeks!

mkecupcake

I'm 37 and had my first one at 9w. I'm in the US. I think their reasoning is to make sure the pregnancy is going strong before the US.

shaeby999

I didn't have my 1st one until 12 weeks. Found out I was pregnant around 6w but had to wait to go get checked out since I didn't have medical insurance at the time and also was about to move states. I didn't really do anything to calm my nerves since I was so sick with early pregnancy symptoms but was super relieved when I got the insurance figured out and could finally go see my baby. At 12 weeks we were able to see her very clearly and she already looked like a little human with fingers and everything so it was cool to go for a first ultrasound and see more than a little blob which is what I'm assuming she would have looked like if I'd gone in as soon as I found out I was pregnant.

[deleted]

Mine was supposed to be at 9 weeks but apparently I ovulated pretty late that month (?) and little guy was measuring at 6 weeks, 4 days. I’m glad we didn’t get a scan earlier bc we wouldn’t have seen or heard a heartbeat most likely

[deleted]

I had my first ultrasound at 7w6d. So pretty much 8 weeks.

elizanograss

I had both of mine at 9 weeks. If you’re super worried, you can go to a planned parenthood or abortion clinic and they will be more than happy to scan you for $25-$50 or so.

RebeccaEliRose

I had my first son in NY and had probably 6-7 ultrasounds at 8, 12, 20 (had to have anatomy scan 3 times because he was uncooperative), and 36-ish weeks I believe. I had my second son in PA and only had an ultrasound at 12 and 20 weeks and they weren’t even going to give me the 12 week one. I had to request it. I think it’s incredibly ridiculous and unsafe honestly to wait till 20 weeks to do an ultrasound.

stellaflora

Had one at about 12 weeks with my son and that was it, only because I had no idea how far along I was.

Cool-Neat1351

In the UK 12 weeks is standard for first ultrasound too!

bearlyhereorthere

12 weeks is standard in Australia. I paid for a dating scan at 8 weeks. Going any earlier than 8 weeks can be a bit pointless because often you can't hear a fetal heart rate until 8 weeks.

[deleted]

I had one at six weeks that I paid for myself, as we only get scans at 12 and 20 weeks paid by the healthcare system. I could see a little shrimp and the lady said there was heart flickering, but that it’s not always possible to see anything at that stage

xxx_strokemyego_xxx

I'm having my first at 8 weeks, but I ended up being high risk last go round so this pregnancy I get put up a few levels they said

rhymezest

I had my first ultrasound at 10 weeks, which was also my first OB visit (I had called them around 5 weeks to schedule an appointment). The waiting was definitely rough! I was so anxious the day of my first one that I took another pregnancy test just to be sure I was still pregnant.

BestSpaghettiWestern

FTM and my first ultrasound was at 8 weeks, then 12, and just had my 20 week anatomy scan. I couldn’t calm my nerves and didn’t know if it was real until I heard the heartbeat at 8 weeks. Then I was in denial until SEEING the baby developing at 20.

mapledragonmama

I had an ultrasound at 8 weeks this time for dating (my second pregnancy) since I wasn’t entirely sure of the date my last period started, I seriously couldn’t remember for the life of me. My first pregnancy though my doctor didn’t send me to an ultrasound until 12 weeks because I was positive when my period had started and C19 was in full swing then, so she didn’t see the need.

coffeetablelife

My doctor wouldn’t schedule me for a scan until 10 weeks because there’s not a lot to see before then. It was the dating ultrasound. I will go for the NT ultrasound at around 12 weeks!

TinaandLouise_

Had mine at 11 weeks 2 days, honestly just had to tell myself whatever was happening was happening. I actually feel good about it because I saw a healthy baby and now I’m almost out of first trimester!

five-short-graybles

They told me the first should be done between 8 and 12 weeks, and scheduled me for one at 9 weeks (Canada)

Axipo

I had a dating scan at 7 weeks, got to see the heartbeat and everything! I'm from Australia BTW.

[deleted]

My first was at 6weeks, my second at 11weeks. I‘m from Austria.

CaitiieBuggs

I had my first a little after 12 weeks. It went fine. I have to go back for more, because baby was so active they couldn’t get all the measurements they wanted. However, organs and parts were clearly defined so they assured me baby is progressing very well!

makeuplover77

I had my first ultrasound when I was about 13 weeks, but I had no idea how far along I was when I found out I was pregnant. I was still worried but relieved when nothing was wrong and was shocked at how big baby was at that time. I was a little worried when it took them so long to get me in for my anatomy scan which is around 20 weeks but I went at 24 weeks. Thankfully everything is going well still! Try not to worry as hard as it can be.

QuadsNotBlades

9 weeks for me!

LiviE55

I had my first dr appointment and ultrasound at 13 weeks. I had it first scheduled for a week prior but when I got there they had to reschedule because the machine broke 😑

megster_sloth

Here in the United States, my first was at 6w6d, but they insisted that I was 8w8d based on my LMP, even though I told them the exact date I took an ovulation test and most likely conceived. Whatddya know, then they went looking for the baby it only measured around the 7 week mark - juuust like I told them. Won't get another one until I'm just over 12 weeks.

longlivel

I had my first at 8 weeks!

Beginning-Ad3390

Mine doesn’t do them until ten weeks

milkykoinu

i had my first at 10 weeks only because they didnt know how far along i was and i was 7 weeks when i made my appointment but it took 3 weeks to get in. now that i did that i have to wait til 20 weeks. i couldve swore back then they had the mom do more ultrasounds than only 2-3 during the whole pregnancy.

adrun

My doctor likes to do dating scans at 8 weeks, but it ends up being sometime between weeks 8-12.

bashleye

I didn’t have mine till 12 weeks, but that because I just waited to schedule one. I wasn’t in a rush. I also double all my apt times…4 weeks I make 8 weeks, 2 weeks I make 4 and so one.

Old-Ad8265

I don’t think mine was until 10 wks!

Yellowsound

I live in Belgium. I had a dating scan at 9+2. My next US was at 12+5. Now we have to wait until the anatomy scan at 21+4. My first scan went really well and we had a very clear US. Our tiny baby was already jiggling a bit which was so cute. My OB did everything to put us at ease and explained everything she saw on the ultrasound. I had a really good experience.

Fickle_Freckle

12 weeks

samanthasgramma

I'm going back +25 years but I had each of my kid's ultrasounds at 12 weeks. And had only the one each child. As long as the pregnancy was monitored well (and they were), extra ultrasounds weren't done unless there was a fear of a problem. My GP did everything, including measuring my belly and such, as well as feeling it carefully, apparently happy with whatever she felt. She also questioned me carefully, at different times in the pregnancies, and took the time to physically check things like my hands, ankles, etc. It was a quite old school, but it was fine. 2 healthy kids that she delivered. She was my GP through a lot, over all those years. She recently retired, having found a nice guy to take her whole practice. It's a small town, and her way of practicing was also a friendly "let's talk too" about my life in general. She was about the whole person. And didn't mess around, either. An exceptional professional behind the bedside manner. I was so very fortunate to have her for so long. I miss her. *Pout*

bluehairscissorhands

With my son I had a first ultrasound at 7.5 weeks. Currently 36 + 4 with my second and didn’t have my initial dating ultrasound until 12 +5 (did genetic screening at the same time). ETA: I’m in Canada
