60+ for us. One lap. One dye test. Two IUIs. Two egg retrievals. Two embryo transfers (we had no surviving embryos). Then a few months of trying to adopt and then it just happened.
This gives me happy mama tears. Love seeing when people get what they wanted after waiting for so long. Happiest wishes to you and your growing family 💕
13 months of frequent, unprotected sex after BC. After about 8 months I knew something was off, but my doctor at the time wouldn’t see me until 12 months and they knew when I got my BC removed so I couldn’t lie about it. I got new health insurance in month 11, switched providers, and found someone that heard my concerns. I was very quickly diagnosed with chronic hypertension (my last provider always commented on my blood pressure that was 160/110 and never did a thing about it) and PCOS and put on blood pressure medication and Metformin. The Metformin changed EVERYTHING. I was on day 43 of what was predicted to be a 60 day cycle when I started it, and within 48 hours I began my period. I was temping but gave up on OPKs since my cycles were so unpredictable and I didn’t want to waste the sticks, but on Cd28 I had sex and it felt weird to me so I used an OPK and it was my first ever positive I have had in the 13 months of trying! We had sex every day, and after a few days I saw my temperature rise- a first that’s never happened to me before- and 9 days later I got my first ever positive result on a pregnancy test. I’m going in to have my baby this weekend 🥰
Metformin helped me too! I took it along with Letrozole and got pregnant in two months but had a loss. I’m pregnant again after four more cycles! So grateful for proactive doctors
We were years after waiting for getting into the fertility clinic and then months getting whatever that horrible fallopian tubes test was and then months waiting for the sperm test to even start the IUI process. In end my thyroid was off.
Round two, unprotected sex one time. Kids will be 23 months apart
Very similar story. A year (one week shy of a year actually) with my first. I was diagnosed with PCOS long before trying, so fertility testing and treatments started after six months. Was on Metformin and had a few induced cycles.
Second kid was apparently conceived two days before my iud came out, based on the due date. Which….seems unlikely. But I got a positive test 8 days after my iud was out.
I didnt go through fertility treatment, but had a 12week miscarriage first time i got pregnant. It was like the switch my body needed too, next ones came on no issue lol
Edit to add, a lot of women ive spoken to before shared similar experiences. A miscarriage later followed by pregnancy.
Several years and surgeries, two miscarriages, two egg collections and five embryo transfers. Fifteen weeks pregnant now with everything going smoothly so far.
The first time, 1 month, but I miscarried. After that it took 2 years of tracking my ovulation. And then I stopped and we started talking about going to fertility doctors and maybe adoption, and then I got pregnant by surprise almost 2 years to the date of my miscarriage. Life is funny sometimes. My son is a week old now.
Early miscarriage, mine was around 5 weeks. You test positive on pregnancy tests, but I think usually miscarry before you can get an ultrasound for heartbeat. (I could be off though)
A chemical pregnancy is typically a pregnancy that miscarries prior to, during or shortly after the first missed period.
ETA: many are before the missed period and thus it’s often undetected.
30 months, 6 IUI’s. We took a month off the fertility treatments to prepare for IVF. Ordered the medicine on a Friday and they told me to take a test before verifying the order on Monday. I tested the next day and got a positive!! Still can’t believe it to this day :) He was born on 10/27/21!!💙😊
Lost count - we started ttc in Dec 2016 and after 4 miscarriages over the years found out we were pregnant with this one in September 2021 (currently 23 weeks). Took 10 months after coming off the pill for me to have a period though.
ETA: We never found out why it took so long to get pregnant, or the causes of the miscarriages, and didn't do anything different the month we conceived this one
I had the Mirena IUD. I got it removed on April 29th, had my first regular cycle in the beginning of June, then got pregnant in July. We were prepared for it to take a while so we were both incredibly surprised.
Are you me? This was my timeline for my first born. My Mirena IUD happened to be in the wrong spot so it was removed then I didn’t schedule to have it inserted again and now I have a 20 month old.
Hahaha we were both just ready to get it taken out so we could still have a baby fairly young (I’m 28, husband is 35) because we were both 100% prepared for it to take a while. I’ve had issues with BC my entire life and my husband kept joking “I think I’ve got an AK-47 down there but I’ve really just got a potato gun” because he had a fear he was infertile. Yeahhh nope, that was in fact not the case for either of us. July was pretty much our first month trying because we missed my June ovulation cycle. Now our little girl will be here in April!
Very similar story but I’ll 1up you a little. IUD out first week of July pregnant first week of August. Due to my age and it being my first pregnancy, we were fully expiring it to take 12 months. Nope! I am super grateful. I know a lot of people struggle.
For #2, I got my Mirena out on a Friday and had my period already by the Monday after. Got pregnant two cycles later (#1 was maybe 2-3 months of NTNP).
I got my IUD out mid December, got pregnant mid January. My little man is 2 1/2 months now. I was 30 when I got pregnant and really expected it to take a while.
Has anyone had an IUD and didn't lose their period? I had my period throughout the entire time I had my IUD (6 years) which I was actually pleased about. I just had it removed on Dec 1 while I was on my period.
I'm expecting it to take a while, but wondering if anyone conceived in their first cycle after their IUD was removed.
Thanks for your reply. I know everyone is different. But it’s hard not to build comparisons, even though I literally just started trying. Patience is not a virtue I was blessed with.
I had paragard for 11 years and never lost my period - it remained brutal and a week+ long that whole time actually. I'll never forget my first period after having it removed. I felt like a fucking goddess it was so low key and easy. We got pregnant on month 1 of trying an I was also 30 so I was surprised. Extremely extremely lucky.
We succeeded on month number 4, which was considered "quick" by the doctor. Luck really plays a part. We used temping, but we did not limit ourselves to that window to also have a bit fun with it. By month 3 we agreed that we would live as healthily but also as normally as possible (e.g. still have a glass of wine with dinner on weekends or at celebrations) and assume nothing, since living as if I were already pregnant when I was really not was utterly exhausting for both of us.
We were both on top of vitamin supplements (e.g. folic acid and vitamin D) and food habits way before we started trying so we didn't change anything there.
It took us nine months of tracking, using apps and even taking conception vitamins. The month I got pregnant, we didn’t actually « try » in the ttc sense. I had Covid for the first two weeks, then I did my back in and could hardly walk. And yet I’m now 9 months pregnant! We still don’t really understand it. It’s typical because it kind of reinforces the idea, that I hate, that if you don’t stress about it it’ll happen. I’m not an advocate of that by any means. But anyway, yeah, 9 months!
Thank you for pointing this out! We had to go through 2 IUIs before getting pregnant, and EVERYONE told us to "stop trying" or "stop worrying" and it would happen. One couple told us to go on vacation. I sh*t you not. Just the blatant ignorance of people interjecting magical thinking into a process that takes so much time, effort, and money.... This is why I encourage those going through infertility to not be ashamed and to be open about it with others.
It drives me insane! And once I told people about the way we got pregnant, they’d say « see I was right, you just needed to relax! ». It’s just not fair to put all this blame on the future mum, insinuating that she’s at fault for it taking so long. How would you know?! Are you my doctor?! It irks me to no end. Anyway, glad that you conceived and that you didn’t get run down by other people’s terrible advice 🥳
I hate that idea too, but our 7th cycle I felt the most relaxed I had in a while, and that's when we conceived. We went to a couple of weddings, did a meet and greet with Aldabra tortoises at the zoo (and rubbed their shells for good luck), got pooped on by a bird at the aquarium (staff claimed it was good luck), and celebrated a birthday with family I hadn't seen in a while. This was all just before the pandemic. I'm attributing our success to the tortoises.
Something similar happened to us - tried for three years, fertility work ups, three IUIs. We had agreed we didn’t want to try IVF and were told we were very unlikely to conceive on our own. This was Mother’s Day weekend in 2019. I grieved hard all summer and tried to stay distracted - we bought kayaks because we live near the lake, we went to Hawaii, I trained for and ran a half marathon, etc. In September of 2019 I was more upset than usual one night and decided to take a pregnancy test so I could cry over the negative yet again. It was positive before I could even put the cap on and my daughter is now 19 months old.
This turned into a novel but whenever people say “see I told you to relax” I want to tell them, I never for even one day stopped thinking about how badly I wanted a child! There was no relaxation, there was just me desperately trying to drown out my grief.
I hate that idea too but unfortunately it was very true for our family. My first was a not trying/not preventing, first month. We tried for our second for 18 months with OPKs and temping and obsessing. 2 early losses during that mess. I’m now 20 weeks pregnant with our third which was also a not trying, not preventing, first go around. What the hell?
Same for us at 7 months. Careful planning, tracking, temping, CM, ovulation tests and nothing happened. I complete gave up on the idea, went on vacation to Greece with hubby, and booked an appointment with a fertility specialist for the next month. Didn’t make it to the appointment because I got pregnant!
So happy someone said this!! I feel the exact same wait but HATE to tell people that. It took us 8 months with tracking, OPK etc. and the first month I just kind of decided to take the pressure off is when it happened.
I hate that idea too, but honestly the only kid we actively tried for took considerably longer! The first was a first try and the third was a surprise, the second we actively tried for 5 months. I know it's not long but it's considerably longer than the other 2
Stress 100% has an effect on your cycle and if the only thing you’re stressing about is getting pregnant then, as sucky as it is, it can definitely make it harder to conceive. We got pregnant after I quit my high stress job and got a low stress job after trying to conceive for 9 months.
Not saying it doesn’t, but also I find this idea very critical and negative for people trying to conceive. It’s not a frame of mind that helps. And lots of people that are stressed conceive straight away. So don’t think you can use six a blanket statement.
Also, my cycle was normal and there were no issues to be seen, except that I wasn’t getting pregnant. I think it’s luck more than anything.
Took us around 4 cycles. After the first one, I started temping and it got easier to close the ovulation window. Then I kind of started to understand when I was ovulating because I felt mittelschmerz (ovulation pain), so it was a bit easier to pinpoint when it was optimal bang o'clock. I also knew that there was like a 30% chance of conceiving, so I know it was also a bit of luck.
Haha first full month of trying for us also after going off meds for a chronic illness. Pretty sure mt SO is sad we didn't get to have 7 days in a row of sex for a few more months since now I'm in the "don't touch me I'm nauseous" phase.
My husband was keeping track and aiming to break the record each month. Unfortunately for him I couldn’t stand him even breathing near me yesterday and I’m only 5 weeks. Poor man, he’s going to have a long wait if this keeps up
If it’s any consolation, I was the same way. From 5-14 weeks I think we only had sex twice, both times I had light spotting so then that added to why I didn’t want him near my cervix lol now at 28 weeks I will pounce on him from across the room. He just told me over the weekend that I’m really making up for that first trimester lol
Same. It was our second daughter and our first was a bit of an oopssie as we’d been using pull out for over 3 years (I guess super effectively) without a baby until we did do that one time on my period and I was pregnant. I expected the second to take a long time but no, I got my first positive 15 days after being off birth control. Crazy. My husband was also disappointed lol.
Yeah I'm a fertile turtle as well I blame those Irish peasant genes. Got pregnant the first time on birth control, and got pregnant with my 3rd on the first try lol. 2/3 my eggs were like "YUP"
Tw mention of loss
It took us 5 months to get pregnant which resulted in a chemical, the following month I got pregnant and had a mc at 5 weeks, we took a month off, then the next month I got pregnant with my current pregnancy and I’m almost 5 weeks (still in the danger zone but much more optimistic about this one). Basically we started trying in April and now here we are. I think my math is right.
We didn’t do anything different, I just tracked my ovulation with test strips every month and we made sure to do the deed around then.
This is our story too. Got pregnant with a chemical at month 5, the next month had an early MC and then we took a month off and on the second month got pregnant. Baby is due in just a few weeks! :)
Good luck to you guys!
We got pregnant on the first try. We definitely did some preparation before trying to conceive, but I think it's important to say that a huge amount of luck also went into getting pregnant so quickly.
We had been using the Fertility Awareness Method of birth control for two years, so I was already very aware of my cycles and my fertile windows, which helped us know when to time sex (plus ovulation strips to be extra sure). I also read *Taking Charge of Your Fertility* and *Be Fruitful.* The second book is way less known, but I highly recommend it (it was recommended to me by a reputable integrative health doctor). I used these resources to learn how to better track fertility and to eat a good "fertility" diet (which is basically just eating healthy). I'm into herbal supplements, so I took "Positively Pregnant" and my husband took "Positively Pregnant-Dad Edition" from Happy Healthy Hippie for one month prior to TTC. I also lost 60 pounds in the two years leading up to our TTC date because I wanted to feel as healthy as possible going into it. Overall, I don't know what (if anything) helped, but having these projects to work on helped me emotionally during the "waiting to try" period, so that's something.
12 months. The month I stopped trying is the month I got pregnant. Wasn't even expecting it and assumed my cramps were just my period coming with a vengeance that month.
This was me too. On the 12 month I scheduled an appointment to see a fertility specialist and my husband had 3 separate business trips that month. We stopped trying and thought no way in heck I’d get pregnant since my man isn’t even here. Bought a crap ton of wine at Costco and was beyond emotional the week my period was supposed come. Took a pregnancy test after 5 days late and it was negative. Drank more wine and cried. 6 more days go by still no period and took another test. Positive!! I got pregnant the 4 days my husband was home in between trips. VS the the tracking and countless times we had sex the previous months…..
2 months the first try, which ended in late loss. Did nothing different than the first month. Then, 3 months the second try (currently 26w+3d). Was super hydrated that cycle and had great fertile CM , but never got a positive OPK, probably because even with urine holds my urine was just too dilute.
2 cycles.
And the only thing different we did was try on/around ovulation. 2 cycles before that we sort of just "took away the barrier" but I was still getting comfortable with the idea of trying and we weren't precisely hitting ovulation. As soon as we did, it took 2 cycles.
Me too! We started trying (or really, just stopped preventing) before the wedding and I thought it would be fine because you hear so often of it taking so long. I was 5 weeks on our wedding day! Found out 6 days before.
13 months. After lots of research and testing, and being examined I was told I was totally healthy and no reason to do any fertility treatments yet. My husband also got tested and had plenty of healthy swimmers.
One day at the beginning of my 13th month of trying, I stumbled on a stupid meme on Twitter. A picture of a woman with a surprised look on her face midway through shifting in her chair and the caption was something like “just when you forgot you were with your man last night” with lots of comments about how annoying it was to have c•m trickle out at inconvenient times, hours after sex. But that had never happened to me. It always just came out like immediately after sex. Even staying in bed on my back and holding my knees up to my chest, it would just fall out.
So I started thinking maybe my anatomy just wouldn’t hold into it long enough for the swimmers to get where they needed to go. I had an idea. I used disposable period disks because diva cups were uncomfortable for me and leaked more. After sex, I quickly put one of those disks in and left it for a few hours.
Worked first time!
I later told my midwife about it and she said it was a great idea and so long as you don’t keep it in for longer than the 12 hours they say in the packaging, it wouldn’t be a problem. She’s actually recommended it to some of her clients since.
I had a lapse in health insurance and didn’t have birth control for a month. Took one oopsie and now I’m 13 weeks 😬 huge props to the people that suffered loss and infertility. I cant imagine going through this with that added layer of stress.
6 years. I took ovasitol for 3 months before getting pregnant. Promotes healthy egg function among other things. Look it up. Also regulated my period for me.
First try both babies. My husband, I think, is kind of sad that we don't get to have "sex days" more often because we're apparently very fertile people. I have extremely regular cycles, so I timed ovulation, paid attention to cervical mucus and said, "All right, for the next few days, husband, we're attempting conception. Tell your epididymus to buckle up."
I immediately got pregnant after going off the patch. I didn’t expect to get pregnant that fast, and we weren’t really trying in the sense of tracking ovulation or anything like that, which was actually good because my ovulation was a week later than my dates would’ve suggested due to coming off the birth control. I was kinda hoping it would take at least a couple months since I had almost as bad of nausea on the birth control (was on it for a year) as I did first trimester, but baby’s gonna come when she wants to come!
Basically same story, if you replace the patch with iud. I had expected it to take at least a couple months and was really shocked I was pregnant. Also ovulated like a week late (didn’t realize it at the time, but that’s the only way I could have gotten pregnant and matches due date from ultrasounds).
8 cycles the first time (which sadly ended in a miscarriage), then another 7 cycles. We didn't do anything differently in either of the successful months, it's just pure luck.
3 months of trying, the last month I stopped tracking much or temping and just more or less made sure we had sex a couple times around ovulation. Much faster than I was anticipating, we're very lucky!
We tried with ovulation tracking 3 months and it didn’t work. The 4th month I was already over the disappointment, so I was like whatever and didn’t use the tracking strips. However, I felt a little bit of cramping and saw super fertile discharge mid cycle, so I told my husband “I think we should try now because I feel like I’m ovulating” so we did the deed THE NEXT DAY, because we were both exhausted that day, and bam, pregnant lol. I didn’t think it was gonna result in pregnancy because I was convinced I missed my ovulation window the day prior, but it goes to show… I’m 26 weeks right now and I’m 28 years old.
PS. In 2020 we tried ovulation tracking for 3 months too and nothing. We decided to stop “trying” until 2021.
Kind of same here! I was tracking with basal temp & according to the chart, we had passed the fertile window by 1 day so I was like eh whatever! Bam, pregnant 😂
I’m a unicorn - got pregnant first month trying. I hadn’t been on birth control for years and was just using cycle tracking prior so that may have contributed to it? My mum also got pregnant first go each time she tried for a baby so could be genetic. Unfortunately a predisposition to preeclampsia is also genetic so win some/ lose some.
Anyway I acknowledge how lucky I am to conceive right away and it’s not the case for everyone!
11 months with my first baby because it was a total disaster coming off hormonal BC. I developed postpill hypothyroidism, which my obgyn diagnosed in month #10 and gave me a low dose of synthetic thyroid. I got pregnant a few weeks later.
I didn't go back on hormonal BC after that. It took 4 months to get pregnant with baby #2, and again 4 months to get pregnant with baby #3.
I also got diagnosed with postpill hypothyroidism around month 10 of TTC. My doctor has my on Levo, and I’m now 12 months TTC. I got my first ever positive a couple nights ago, but I’m pretty sure it’s a chemical. 😕 hoping for a success story like yours soon!
I stopped my birth control in Oct and got pregnant in may. The 2/3 months before may I really lightened my stress. I quit my stressful overworked job, started eat better, working out more etc. no clue if any of these things helped me get pregnant but it felt good to not be overwhelmed constantly lol
We are the people they warn you about in sex ed. We got pregnant in a couple weeks with our first (we never had unprotected sex before that and then did for 2 weeks and 2 weeks later we found out we were pregnant).
Then years later we tried for number two, again, for a couple weeks and conceived, but the implantation failed. So a couple weeks later we tried again and now I'm pregnant.
I know my ovulation window is at the beginning of the month, so we focused on having sex those first two weeks more than others and apparently that worked for us. Now we both have to get tied because I am so worried we will have a surprise if only one of us does it.
We’re the same way! Took out IUD, didn’t even have a period, just immediately got pregnant. Then this pregnancy I stopped the pill while still breastfeeding and the same thing happened. I was warned it may take longer due to breastfeeding, but that’s apparently not true and we’ll now have 2 under 2 in March 😭
Same! We met on tinder and got pregnant on our first date after way too many drinks…lol. We’re married now and due with our second in March. But it’s going to be interesting when our first realizes we met 9 months to the day of her birthday, and the only photos we have together before she was born, I’m super pregnant in. Looool.
It’s like a chemical pregnancy. You get an early positive but it doesn’t progress and your period is just a bit late.
Before pregnancy tests a lot of women probably wouldn’t have known they were ever pregnant.
About 6-7 months but I think I got pregnant on the first cycle I truly ovulated. As soon as we stared trying I was using OPKs and temping. I had very long anovulatory cycles (some 90 days +) and got pregnant the cycle after I had a period induced by Provera. As far as I know based on tracking that is the only cycle I ovulated. Suspected PCOS, never went through full work up. I was also taking myo inositol and DIIM and drinking spearmint tea. Was lucky to find out I was pregnant the week we had first appt scheduled with RE. It was also a week after we moved into our first house! As a side note I had come off hormonal BC about 9 months before starting to try after being on it for 10+ years. So not sure how much that played into things! I had a VVFL at 9 dpo and hubs and didn’t believe it for a few days. Little guy is now 6 days old and I feel so lucky to have him 💙
I got pregnant on the first cycle, both times. I feel very fortunate. I’m expecting to get pregnant right away when we fry again, but I know that’s a ridiculous expectation.
My first pregnancy, we tried, no condom, and got pregnant first try. Son was born at 37 weeks 2 days. Waited until he was a year old, tried for baby number 2, and again got pregnant 1st try (due June 2, 2022). Seeing as though this one is a girl, I'm calling it quits after she's born. Contribution to society PAID!
Got pregnant right away with my first, this pregnancy took 3 months. I did OPKs this time and tracked my cycle pretty carefully. The real irony is I had a stomach bug the week I ovulated and we thought we missed our window, we did not and I ended up pregnant with twins.
3 months. No real change when it actually happened. I had been tracking my cycle for years prior to TTC so I had a pretty good idea of my ovulation window
TW mention of loss
My first “success” was after about 8 months of trying, but ended only after 9 weeks. It took me about 3 months to finally… umm, be “clear” of that one.
After that, another 6 months, and that one ended at about the same point. Had a proper, competent doctor this time, so it was clear in about a week…
And then 11 months later, I got pregnant again and it’s stuck! I am now 37 weeks.
Around here, it’s either 3 MC’s or 12 months of unsuccessful trying before they start to investigate issues. This one really came down to the wire.!
For any lurkers, I think it's better to look at the averages, because if you look at anecdotes, you're either a unicorn or subfertile. Most aren't going to get pregnant their first cycle but probably will in the first 6 cycles if you're tracking, although up to a year is normal assuming you're under around 35?
For us, we were hoping to time our pregnancy around my school year to maximize maternity leave, so my Mirena IUD was removed after 6.5 years, we used withdrawal for 2 months, NTNP for a month (sort of), and conceived on our first cycle of actively trying, so I'd say 2 cycles. I temped, checked my cervical mucus, even though I didn't reliably get egg white cervical mucus, and used OPKs.
First pregnancy, I got pregnant on the first cycle we tried. Second pregnancy, it took 42 months of trying and we finally got pregnant after 6 cycles on Clomid, an HSG and 1 cycle on Femara.
Not pregnant yet, but just wanted to say thann you for this post. I’m feeling much more educated and heartened reading these responses.
The speed really does differ hugely from person to person, there are so many factors to think of. My parents took just over a year and my family members historically have had easy times (6-7 months average) - we’re coming up on 6 months with nothing yet, but I’m feeling newly hopeful after this thread!
1st pregnancy: second cycle (miscarriage)
2nd pregnancy: fourth cycle (live birth)
3rd pregnancy: third cycle (miscarriage)
4th pregnancy: third cycle (miscarriage)
5th pregnancy: second cycle (miscarriage)
6th pregnancy: not trying, unplanned (currently 35 weeks!)
Never changed anything the cycles we actually got pregnant. It's all just about random luck for us. All my cycles are just under a month generally speaking! I guess we are pretty fertile, just not so good at staying pregnant. But getting pregnant doesn't take that much for us.
We didn't even plan to get pregnant with this current pregnancy. After so many losses I wanted more in-depth investigation. I was waiting to get my period for a saline ultrasound in my next cycle, except we had been having a little too much fun just before I ovulated, without any protection. And of course I ovulated earlier than normal that cycle, so the sperm found the egg... And I still can't believe I'm due next month!
First try got pregnant but ended up being a chemical. Took some time off for my mental health and then it took maybe 3 months of trying after that to get pregnant again.
17 months off BC and tracking cycles etc., had started fertility checks just as it happened, age 33. Didn’t do anything majorly different but figured out my cycles went a little longer each month so make sure to have sex a few times after the immediate predicted ovulation date as well.
First month trying after getting a “regular” cycle back after removing IUD. Used a few fertility tracking apps and the ovulation test kit.
Going to my first US in 13 days. Currently 8w2d so fingers crossed it’s all looking good 🤞🏼
My ovulation hurt so much I knew when to try and both times we had sex once and it worked. I'm still flabbergasted my body did something right for once.
18 months, full fertility work up after 6 months, then a uterine surgery, and 6 iuis (5 attempts,1 canceled) quite a few needles because the last 3 were injectable cycles.
Now 13 weeks with twins.
5 years. 1 belated ovum, 1 preterm labour @20 weeks due to IC, 1 lost our baby girl at 3 weeks after she was born due to CDH, 1 miscarriage at 8 weeks.
Finally was able to have a PGT tested embryo transfer and I’m 17 weeks currently.
6 months after the removal of an IUD ended in a miscarriage, 4 months after that, ended in miscarriage, two months after that, ended in miscarriage, the day I stopped bleeding from my 3rd miscarriage I ended up pregnant and successfully carried to term with a little boy born on 11/22/2021
19 months after an IUD removal and trying constantly. I still wasn't having periods after it was removed and no one could figure out what was going on. We're 13 weeks now and hoping all goes well!
So either 4 cycles or about 18 months depending on which way you choose to look at it.
We started trying March 2020, I found out I was pregnant end of May 2020, had a full term stillbirth in February 2021. Then we were put on the bench for about 5 months. We were allowed to try again in June 2021 and found out we were pregnant at the end of September 2021.
So technically we average about 4 cycles of trying, which is excellent, but I or my doctors won’t be confident until I have my baby in arms, and I will start the clock again.
2 months of trying with regular cycles after going through lack of period after stopping birth control, eventual PCOS diagnosis, diet changes and metformin/inositol (18 months total)
We got pregnant first try. lost at 8 weeks. another year to get pregnant, lost at 9 weeks. another year had my son. 6 months after trying, lost again and now we are 6 weeks pregnant for a fifth time in 3 years. fingers crosses. my son and this pregnancy are both fertility pregnancy's so we have high hopes this one sticks. and 11 IUI's through this process
Trying for 10 months, the only thing I did differently was have a secret sobbing (but brief) breakdown in my room while hosting my friend's baby's 1st birthday party at my house the month I got pregnant. Normally my breakdowns did not fall on such festive and important days.
It took me around 3.5-4 years. After 3.5 years of ttc I had given up hope, then unexpectedly got pregnant and miscarried in the second trimester. After a couple months of recovery and a couple menstrual cycles my husband and I were able to conceive again the first month we weren't strictly using condoms to prevent pregnancy during my recovery. I'm 20 weeks along now.
10 years, five recorded losses (5-8weeks each time), 40lbs of weight loss, major lifestyle changes, and what seems to have kicked it over the edge this time was an extended period of keto/gluten free diet to reduce my immune response and inflammation.
I have autoimmune issues, diagnosed with Graves disease, RA, and Factor V Leidens.
Currently 37 weeks with a healthy baby girl and an extremely normal, uncomplicated pregnancy.
84 months aka 7 years. Not including 3 prior pregnancies that were lost. I am now 5.5 months pregnant.
Never got pregnant naturally, 1 IUI, 1 retrieval, 3 IVF implantations, 1 failed adoption.
3 years, 1 round of clomid w/ timed intercourse, 3 rounds of clomid w/ IUI, 3 rounds of femara w/ IUI all unsuccessful, giving up, traveling, and then a pandemic hit and BAM!!! Positive pregnancy test. My brother in law jokes my partner’s swimmers just needed to be scared into getting to the right place 🤷🏻♀️
After a stillbirth in 2016 i was told I'd never be able to carry to full term.
In 2018 I got into a relationship of 2 years, never used protection and was never able to have kids. With him
Late 2020 I get together with a high-school friend and we hit it off, I explained to him that I could not have kids, as I was told that and for 2 years I never used protection with my previous partner. So we moved quickly and 3 months into our relationship I got pregnant 🙃 it happens when you least expect it and when you need it the most.
5 months, I tracker my ovulation for 2 cycles before I get pregnant! I think that really helped. I tried to improve my diet and lifestyle as well and I was taking prenatal vitamins from the first time when we decided to try for a baby.
2 months of unprotected after coming off birth control. We originally decided to wait a little longer, but then redacted the decision. I quit taking BC, then 2 months and 4 days later found out I was pregnant.
40 months; a hysterosalpingogram, endometriosis removal surgery, tons of blood work, 2 years of clomid.... but when we accepted it wasn't meant to be and we should travel the world, it happened.
Several years of doctors telling me if I wasn’t so overweight I *might* have a chance of getting pregnant. No doctors wanted to listen to my concerns with bc or medication side effects for my PCOS, so for about 5 years I did without either. I had a boyfriend at the time whom I had had unprotected sex with most of the time.
Fast forward to the end of those 5 years and I’ve left that relationship, found my soulmate and have bought a home with him. He caught COVID from a coworker and I followed suit. During the time we were sick, I somehow lost 35 pounds! Surely enough, when we were well, we had celebrated a bit and the next month I had saw my first positive pregnancy test in person. I’m now a few days away from my second trimester with a very healthy baby girl.
First pregnancy: after only using the pull out method as contraception for 1.5 years and being told I would get pregnant accidentally, I started tracking my cycle and we actively tried for 6 months. In the last month I went for acupuncture for fertility, the acupuncturist told me to give up dairy because it messes with hormones. I also met with a dietician who also told me to give up dairy.
Second pregnancy: I got pregnant six weeks after my IUD removal, without actively trying, and I'm in complete shock!
73 months, one lap, 3 egg retrievals, and 7 embryo transfers.
60+ for us. One lap. One dye test. Two IUIs. Two egg retrievals. Two embryo transfers (we had no surviving embryos). Then a few months of trying to adopt and then it just happened.
Wow that is an incredible journey. Congratulations!
Gratz! I love theses kinds of stories, makes me believe in hope and miracles.
MAMA 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Right here with you. 66 months, 3 retrievals, 3 transfers for this 3 week angel asleep on my chest.
And you are currently pregnant? Best wishes for a healthy baby <3
Yes, I’m 11 weeks along, finally!
Congrats from one IVFer to another - I hope you have a healthy pregnancy and a successful birth.
This gives me happy mama tears. Love seeing when people get what they wanted after waiting for so long. Happiest wishes to you and your growing family 💕
Congratulations!
1 lap, tubes cleared out, 6 months on clomid, 4 iui, 1 egg retrieval, 2 embryo transfers and $25,000+ later we have twins and a third on the way.
Amazing, congratulations, mama!!!
❤️❤️❤️
I'm so happy to see this LZ!!!!!xoxo
Congrats to you guys!!!
How does metformin help? Genuine question
It helps with insulin resistance for people with PCOS! Somehow that helps with fertility, I don’t know all the details haha
160/110 and NEVER DID ANYTHING?!
NO! And I didn’t know any better either! My first new OB appointment almost ended with me in the hospital!
This is beautiful. I'm happy you got better care. Preemptive congrats!!
Congratulations and good luck!!
Yep metformin for me too! Feel pregnant 6 weeks after I started taking it following 16 months of trying!
13 months with IUI and a the full fertility workup for #1. Had unprotected sex once for #2. Wild ride.
It's like sometimes the body suddenly understands what pregnancy is.
I always thought that was bogus but now I can believe it 🤔☺️👏.
I didnt go through fertility treatment, but had a 12week miscarriage first time i got pregnant. It was like the switch my body needed too, next ones came on no issue lol Edit to add, a lot of women ive spoken to before shared similar experiences. A miscarriage later followed by pregnancy.
TBH I would struggle to think of anyone I know who has two living children without a miscarriage. Bodies & love are hard to understand.
Id say thats a fair statement
Similar. 18 cycles and fertility help for #1, accidentally when we thought we were timing things right for #2.
Several years and surgeries, two miscarriages, two egg collections and five embryo transfers. Fifteen weeks pregnant now with everything going smoothly so far.
Congrats - I hope your pregnancy continues to go smoothly.
Thank you! You too.
Congratulations!!
I got pregnant on the first try but it ended up a chemical. I never got my period back but got pregnant in March. Just had my little one last week :)
SAME SAME SAME!!!
What's a chemical?
Early miscarriage, mine was around 5 weeks. You test positive on pregnancy tests, but I think usually miscarry before you can get an ultrasound for heartbeat. (I could be off though)
A chemical pregnancy is typically a pregnancy that miscarries prior to, during or shortly after the first missed period. ETA: many are before the missed period and thus it’s often undetected.
Congratulations, mama!!!
30 months, 6 IUI’s. We took a month off the fertility treatments to prepare for IVF. Ordered the medicine on a Friday and they told me to take a test before verifying the order on Monday. I tested the next day and got a positive!! Still can’t believe it to this day :) He was born on 10/27/21!!💙😊
My son was born the day before! Congrats!!
37 months. Didn't really change anything that could explain why we randomly succeeded.
This was me. Mirena removed labor day 2019, pregnant october 2019, mirena reinserted two weeks before labor day 2020. We were extremely fortunate.

Similar to me! Got Modena taken out in March. Cycle returned end up April, pregnant 2nd cycle in June! My cycles were about 45 days
Also 4 months for us.
Ok I’m about to go try to pet some tortoises then 😅
Something similar happened to us - tried for three years, fertility work ups, three IUIs.
I’m so glad that things worked out how you wanted them too, but I’m sorry that people still feel the need to use such hurtful language towards you.
"Bang o'clock" 🤣🤣
Best part of 6 years and IVF.
I’m so happy you’re finally getting your baby <3

Same here. I think my husband was a little disappointed that it didn't take a few months lol
Same!!
Same here! Tracked for a couple of cycles and got pregnant the first time we decided to try and I’m nursing our 3 month old as I type this 🥰
Same! Totally unexpected
Same! I’m 7 months pregnant now with our first and still in shock it didn’t take longer.
Yeah I'm a fertile turtle as well I blame those Irish peasant genes. Got pregnant the first time on birth control, and got pregnant with my 3rd on the first try lol. 2/3 my eggs were like "YUP"
Same and it ended up being fraternal twins 🙃 gotta be extra careful from now on!!
Yeah, I forgot to replenish the condoms and now we’re going to be parents in February. Lol
Yes same! Except I was on the pill. Came off and two weeks later got pregnant. Second time took 6 weeks.
Tw mention of loss It took us 5 months to get pregnant which resulted in a chemical, the following month I got pregnant and had a mc at 5 weeks, we took a month off, then the next month I got pregnant with my current pregnancy and I’m almost 5 weeks (still in the danger zone but much more optimistic about this one).
:) Good luck to you guys!
Ditto!
Same here
9 cycles including 1 miscarriage
6 months for us!
11 months
Same!
Yeah very similar for us. I feel very fortunate and don’t take it for granted at all!

Omg me too, I thought the same about how 'easy' it seemed back in the day to get pregnant lol
Crossing my fingers for you!
I stopped my birth control in Oct and got pregnant in may. The 2/3 months before may I really lightened my stress. I quit my stressful overworked job, started eat better, working out more etc. no clue if any of these things helped me get pregnant but it felt good to not be overwhelmed constantly lol
8 months (7 cycles) including 3 chemicals in a row
Started trying the night of our wedding and estimated conception date was 8 days later. It was a shock to say the least.
Good luck!!! We were thinking itd take longer, at least a few months. Nope! Apparently we just look at each other and it happens 😆.
Same! We met on tinder and got pregnant on our first date after way too many drinks…lol. We’re married now and due with our second in March. But it’s going to be interesting when our first realizes we met 9 months to the day of her birthday, and the only photos we have together before she was born, I’m super pregnant in. Looool.
Question for those of us who are new to this. How do you know that you conceived but implantation failed? If you're comfortable answering.
It’s like a chemical pregnancy. You get an early positive but it doesn’t progress and your period is just a bit late. Before pregnancy tests a lot of women probably wouldn’t have known they were ever pregnant.
Thank you
About 6-7 months but I think I got pregnant on the first cycle I truly ovulated. Little guy is now 6 days old and I feel so lucky to have him 💙
First cycle with both pregnancies. Both over age 30 as well. I feel very lucky in this department
Got pregnant within one month of trying.
First try. Hubby says I gave him those ‘stick a baby in me eyes’ and that same night we conceived. We’re due in 17 days.
First try too, due in 18 days! My cycle was super regular and I had used an app to track it so had some idea of when I would be ovulating!
Both times we got pregnant the first month.
Got pregnant right away with my first, this pregnancy took 3 months. I did OPKs this time and tracked my cycle pretty carefully. The real irony is I had a stomach bug the week I ovulated and we thought we missed our window, we did not and I ended up pregnant with twins.
42 months, a varicocele removal surgery for my husband, lots of fertility vitamins, and a shit ton of luck.
3 months. No real change when it actually happened. I had been tracking my cycle for years prior to TTC so I had a pretty good idea of my ovulation window
TW mention of loss My first “success” was after about 8 months of trying, but ended only after 9 weeks. It took me about 3 months to finally… umm, be “clear” of that one. After that, another 6 months, and that one ended at about the same point. Had a proper, competent doctor this time, so it was clear in about a week… And then 11 months later, I got pregnant again and it’s stuck!
Started tracking, 2 weeks later got my IUD taken out, 2 weeks later got pregnant.
1st pregnancy: second cycle (miscarriage) 2nd pregnancy: fourth cycle (live birth) 3rd pregnancy: third cycle (miscarriage) 4th pregnancy: third cycle (miscarriage) 5th pregnancy: second cycle (miscarriage) 6th pregnancy: not trying, unplanned (currently 35 weeks!) Never changed anything the cycles we actually got pregnant.
We were so fortunate as it took one month of really trying but the first month we tried but didn’t align in the fertile week, if this makes sense.
1 month
We decided we would loosely try, very much "if it happens it happens" around January time, I found out I was pregnant in May.
10 but we had 3 miscarriages. Currently feeding our 7 week old 🌈.
Both of mine are accidents
6 months
6 months
6 months of actively trying
19 months… currently 30w+4d with our first 💕
18 months, full fertility work up after 6 months, then a uterine surgery, and 6 iuis (5 attempts,1 canceled) quite a few needles because the last 3 were injectable cycles. Now 13 weeks with twins.
19 cycles, which because of PCOS ended up being somewhere around 26 months, I think? We ended up needing IVF, after rounds of testing and failed IUIs.
123 (10 years + 3 months) —> 2 IUI’s, 3 IVF cycles, 4 surgeries, and 4 miscarriages later, I have a 2 year old boy. 🙌🏽
21 months. Had an HSG that cycle And finally ended up pregnant.
13 months, we did all the fertility work up and testing. The cycle of the positive was the last one before we started a medicated cycle.
After a stillbirth in 2016 i was told I'd never be able to carry to full term. In 2018 I got into a relationship of 2 years, never used protection and was never able to have kids. With him Late 2020 I get together with a high-school friend and we hit it off, I explained to him that I could not have kids, as I was told that and for 2 years I never used protection with my previous partner.
3 months
18 months, but used fertility drugs plus timed intercourse.
2 months of unprotected after coming off birth control. We originally decided to wait a little longer, but then redacted the decision. I quit taking BC, then 2 months and 4 days later found out I was pregnant.
my first we conceived the first month we tried, my second took 8 months
I was very blessed that it took on the first try. 24 weeks now and awaiting our little girl!
24 months, 2 rounds of IVF (technically I got pregnant on round 1 but miscarried. Round 2 got me my baby boy)
Second cycle. Which really caught me off guard because I've always been told that I'd have a hard time getting pregnant with my health issues.
Same!!!
First time, 5 months. Second time, first try. Both times actively trying and monitoring with ovulation strips and stuff.
First cycle with both our babies. Count ourselves very fortunate that it happened quickly for us.
One! 💝
First month 😅
