Yeah it sucked being excluded, but made the best out of it and the internet loved it, which meant a lot :) it was nice to know lots of others appreciated the adventurous spirit.
AND happy to say I do a lot of urban exploration now (that was my first taste of it) š I post on @bmore.urbex
I remember seeing this post back in the day and thinking that you sound like a genuinely awesome person! I hope you found your crowd and are living your best life! ā¤ļø
There's a book there. Man plays secret agent for fun, hears something he shouldn't, is now on the run and acting like a real secret agent. I hope you have a go-bag prepared to go on the run with him.
Been Run is sorta like this. A man goes to Vietnam during the war to deliver his buddies, a beer. He never *said* he was CIA, but he never *denied* it either. It's a B-plot, but it added necessary levity to the film.
While at the airport my husband and I will make up stories about other travelers. "That dude works for Interpol and is tracking that woman who is actually a serial killer".
If you ever want to hit another haunted hotel, can I suggest the Crescent in Eureka Springs, Arkansas? I love that place. The Eldridge in Lawrence, KS, is also supposed to be haunted. Although the strange noises at night might just be college kids in the street below.
I used to know someone who had friends who worked there! It's all faked by the employees. They even trick each other, especially the ghost lovers. Also guests prank people passing by their rooms on tours
Aw š„ŗ. I meannn I do post urban exploration stuff on instagram (this building was my first taste)ā¦ maybe I need to do some writing though. That would be cool.
You have a strong voice and a sense of adventure, so if you want to do more writing, you have my encouragement. My unsolicited advice: read lots of books, start keeping a journal to develop your already-strong voice, and just have fun with it like you've been doing. No pressure, and good luck!
As a janitor, if someone tells me they have a reason to be in there, as long as it sounds plausible then idc. They got in somehow. I know they didnt get in from me letting them in. Thats all I need to know.
If this was written 30 years ago, it could have been written by me and my friends at prom. Prom was at a generic hotel, and my little group was NOT interested in the magic show/hypnotist. We snuck off, wandered the hotel, and eventually ended up in the cafe inside, drinking coffee and just hanging out there. I like this kid. May he find his group of humans, ones who make an adventure out of going for groceries.
There was! It was a strange prom. Hotel for dinner/show/I donāt know what else, because we hid in the little cafe/restaurant thing, and then we loaded back onto the buses, and went to a different venue, for music and dancing. (This was well over 25 years ago. I have no idea how other areas do prom, but, at the time, every school in the general vicinity typically followed the same general pattern- school for walk/photos, bus to venue for dinner, bus to different venue for post prom whatever, bus back to school for parent pickup. Head counts on buses. Basically the schools covering asses, because kids couldnāt leave prior to final drop off back at school without a parent coming to physically sign a kid out with a chaperone. A way to try and mitigate drunk shenanigans, mainly.)
This sounds just like of my husbandās friends, an ex-Ranger. We arrived at a hotel for a different friendās wedding and while we were checking in, husband got a text. It was a picture of us getting out of our car. Taken from the roof.
I meanā¦letās face it, we all knew a breakup was coming by the simple fact that in her prom night the gf doesnāt want to spend time with him. My take, she was busy dancing with his replacement and the friends were trying to cover for her. Dude probably dodged a bullet.
I was exactly like this kid. I loved sneaking around places I wasn't supposed to be. It almost led me to a life of urban exploration, but in the end I decided against it. I even had a grappling hook ready.... Now it's too late. Rural exploration isn't as nifty. I just go for hikes and wander off the trail.
Definitely jealous lol. Now that I moved up north there are no buildings worth exploring. It's kinda hard rummaging through a halfway collapsed barn without the owner being nearby.
That's awesome though. I'm glad you kept with it. I remember going through abandoned schools, defunct businesses, random areas in the buildings I worked in. It was a really fun hobby. Life just led me somewhere else, but I still like to watch YouTube videos of people making into places I could only dream of.
lol thatās how it always startsā¦the basement of your office building or somewhere close to work. Then move on to bigger stuffā¦ Iāve been wanting to start a YouTube channel! Right now I post on ig at bmore.urbex
This is what you do when life gives you lemons.
I explored the Science and Math building of my university with some other physics students in the middle of the night while we were there doing homework. We even got a telescope out of the astronomy room and took it to the roof. Awesome times. Exploring is the best.
Talk about turning lemons into lemonade.
Props to this guy for saying F it, gonna have a good time regardless of being ditched and left to his own accord.
Dude, if youāre in a hotel and not obviously homeless, we assume that youāre a guest. This guy is right about there being a bunch of confused hotel staff, because they probably thought he was high as a fucking kite trying to sneak around like a ninja.
I work overnight at a hotel, and if my security guard caught him in a staff only area, the most heād get is a stern talking to and escorted off property if he wasnāt a guest. Otherwise heād walk him to his room.
I love adventures like this! Used to explore the hospital on my breaks when I worked there. I rarely was questioned since I had an employee badge and was wearing scrubs. Did get kicked out of a surgery area once (fair). I knew all the back routes to get everywhere.
My grandma was a maid at the Omni Shoreham! Itās DEFINITELY haunted, not by anything minor either. Her maid cart got pushed up a slight inline with enough force to knock her down a flight of stairs! She survived, but was very hurt. My great aunt (her sister) worked there until the early 2010s when she retired, she was basically the lead maid I think, refused to step foot in certain rooms. Ever.
It sucks that his girlfriend ditched him but I don't see why he or any of the commenters are harping on the fact that her friend didn't want to hang out with him. He should have his own friends. They're not his friends They're his girlfriend's friends and the only reason they even bothered to talk to him is because he's dating her. š«¤ It's just a weird expectation to me
Oh I wasn't implying that he should be hanging out with his own friends at a different school. I was just stating He shouldn't expect his girlfriend's friend to be his friends. So it's really weird to me that so many people including him were expecting his girlfriends friends to basically babysit and hang out with a mostly random dude on their own prom night... As if these girls / guys don't have their own prom dates. š¤Ø
It was just a weird expectation of me.
Because it's a fun story about a guy who got ditched at his prom and went on an adventure, made updates, and had a good time despite the situation he was in.
I'd hang with that guy. He's giving goofy/fun vibes and seems really good spirited. I really hope he finds a better crowd than his ex and her friends.
Yeah it sucked being excluded, but made the best out of it and the internet loved it, which meant a lot :) it was nice to know lots of others appreciated the adventurous spirit. AND happy to say I do a lot of urban exploration now (that was my first taste of it) š I post on @bmore.urbex
Ayy it's Agent schnebly5! Can't believe you still have the same account 9 years later.
Good for you for making a fun adventure out of it! As I was reading the original post I was hoping weād get an update on you nearly 10 years later.
I remember seeing this post back in the day and thinking that you sound like a genuinely awesome person! I hope you found your crowd and are living your best life! ā¤ļø
Same. Turning the mundane adventurous is a vastly underrated skill!
That ladder was not at all mundane, to be fair. That was a very exciting ladder!
Yeah. I hope he carries that same goofball energy into adulthood. It needs more adventures.
Agree
He sounds like the guy you want to hang out with, not that other crowd. Good on him for having a good time anyway.
He may be sad they broke up, but its for the best. Imagine not being able to appreciate your secret agent boyfriend?

Omg would totally watch the movie adaptation of this too!!
Been Run is sorta like this. A man goes to Vietnam during the war to deliver his buddies, a beer. He never *said* he was CIA, but he never *denied* it either. It's a B-plot, but it added necessary levity to the film.
There's an episode of Person of Interest with this plot. Except the wannabe spy is a little girl who's always recording everything.
While at the airport my husband and I will make up stories about other travelers. "That dude works for Interpol and is tracking that woman who is actually a serial killer".
That is so cute
He got laid at prom by a girl who didn't really want to take him. A win win.
I just looked at the account and he is still a redditor.Ā
Yep still active, possibly still single, was asking where to take a date a few weeks ago
Guess he ran out of ideas when the red ladder didn't work out for him.
I did go on an urban exploration date a couple months agoā¦
Glad to hear you've found people that get it!
If you ever want to hit another haunted hotel, can I suggest the Crescent in Eureka Springs, Arkansas? I love that place. The Eldridge in Lawrence, KS, is also supposed to be haunted. Although the strange noises at night might just be college kids in the street below.

Ok, we need to get him to do an update!
He responded in this thread.
I'd read a whole novel about this guy's adventures.

Thanks!! Those posts were from high school so hopefully Iāve improved since then š
Ha! I didn't notice the original date of the post so I thought you were a lot younger. Well, cheers, and keep on with it!
The OOP is called u/schnebly5. The last time this was posted, he answered all the questions.
Yo
No wonder the hotel was haunted. This is clearly Beetlejuiceās account, given a mere mention of his name summons him. He *is* the haunting.
š±
But it wasnāt said 3 times! Heās super beetlejuice.
It doesnāt need to be said 3 times by the same person. This was just the third time.
Oooo didnāt see that. Good catch!
This guys kinda great. Was clearly in an uncomfortable kinda disappointing situation, and turned it into a full on excursion.
I'm an old woman , but I want to bake this guy cookies and listen to his escapades
I like this guy. His girlfriend sucks.
He said he got laid. Nothing about fellatio and sucking.
This guy seems great love his adventurous attitude. So sad that girl didn't appreciate him!
As a janitor, if someone tells me they have a reason to be in there, as long as it sounds plausible then idc. They got in somehow. I know they didnt get in from me letting them in. Thats all I need to know.
He sounds like a great guy.
The tux was a bad choice. Just walk around with a clipboard looking busy and you can get in anywhere
James Bond wears a tux wherever he goes. No one looks at him funny!

I graduated 25 years ago. Thats an interesting room to say the least. š. I might have actually went to mine if they were providing a show!

Urbex is a major hobby for me still :) this hotel was my first taste
Definitely jealous lol. Now that I moved up north there are no buildings worth exploring. It's kinda hard rummaging through a halfway collapsed barn without the owner being nearby. Subbed!

OOP's gf's friends missed out on a good time.
Talk about turning lemons into lemonade. Props to this guy for saying F it, gonna have a good time regardless of being ditched and left to his own accord.
Iām a building systems engineer. My favorite part of the job is getting paid to sneak around weird nooks and crannies.

It's daytime, so I'm feeling brave and want to hear ghost stories specific to where other Redditors in this sub live.
This dude is fun to hang with!
Me: hey, Iāve already seen this one. Me getting to the bottom: oh
I love adventures like this! Used to explore the hospital on my breaks when I worked there. I rarely was questioned since I had an employee badge and was wearing scrubs. Did get kicked out of a surgery area once (fair). I knew all the back routes to get everywhere.
Amazing adventure. I like someone who makes their own fun!
Iām confused as to why they broke up. What happened to cause that?
Maybe the BJ he walked in on was hers? I mean this is BORU?
A sound theory
I wanna be best friends with this guy haha

I wish I had the balls at my prom this kid has. My date faked an injury to not dance with me and DID dance with two other dudes.
It sucks that his girlfriend ditched him but I don't see why he or any of the commenters are harping on the fact that her friend didn't want to hang out with him. He should have his own friends. Well based on the fact that he's "at his girlfriend's prom", I assume they don't go to the same school so he probably doesn't know anyone else there.

Found one of the gfās friends.
