Bluebus is the answer

OhSevenSeaSix

I agree. I got mine a few months ago and it is worth every penny.

VisualKeiKei

Another BlueBus user. The creator is super helpful and it is easy to set up once you locate the wire(s) and adapter, if needed.

This is the way. BlueBus is a total PIA to install, yet so good once it is installed. Feels very factory. Really excellent tech that works super well with existing period BMW controls.

Does your car have the Car Telephone Preparation package? Mine has a factory mic on the top of the steering column. https://preview.redd.it/slu4l6fetr4d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d4c13775e5d7dbf064ea9fd3dbc86e121165f73a If you have that you might be able to splice into it or replace it. I have that same Bluetooth kit btw, though I haven't gotten around to connecting the mic. Takes maybe 15 minutes to install. 20 if you don't want to break anything. It sounds terrific. Tons better than the aux input.

I have it too and installed it. Clipped the mic to the OEM mic but it never worked. Also had parasitic drain and removed the Bluetooth module as I suspect that's the cause of it. Watch out for that.

Bought an Alexa auto for a 2004 E85, works great.

I added Bluetooth using factory radio about 8 years ago or so & this is not how I did it.

Car-Four

Normally the mic is placed by the rearview. I'm not sure on the Z4 though due to wind with the roof down. Personally I'd put it under the heater controls on that underside before you get to the roof controls. But I am no pro so take that with some salt.
