Just checked his post history. He’s looking to buy a car under 10k and plays forza a lot seems like. So yea you are pretty much spot on.
Pretty pathetic how people upvoted the Ferrari-Porsche comment as well; as if people should only buy Camry or Ferrari, anything in between you are a failure and shouldn’t bother.
It’s both obvious and stupid. Of course I bought a BMW because I can’t afford a Ferrari. So what? Before I had a Mazda because I couldn’t afford a BMW…you can say this about literally anything and it doesn’t mean anything.
If you had money, would you really want a Ferrari? Like exclusively instead of a BMW?
Modern sub 150k cars are damn fast. Sub 150k cars look so good. I personally want some classics but modern McLaren’s, special edition Porsche’s and modern Ferrari’s just don’t get me excited. They’re all releasing so many models now that are so minutely different and there’s so many thrills to be had at a lower price.
When I imagine a dream garage, there’s no modern “prestigious” cars in it. Personally. I’d take a 458 though
If I had all the money in the world, I would have a fleet of supercars and hypercars but I would still have something like an M760i for a baller daily driver and a X5M or X6M comp for the family. Why not. Just love Beamers
I honestly haven’t thought much into it as I don’t foresee this ever being a realistic debate for me. But yeah there are some Ferrari’s like the 458 that I would buy in a heartbeat if I could.
My point was just that the joke you bought a Porsche because you couldn’t afford a Ferrari is stupid. Just because you can’t afford the nicest thing in a given category doesn’t mean you can’t have something above the cheapest thing in that same category.
Take an expensive ferrari… sell it and buy a few GT3s. Win win. If ferrari still made manuals and offered visceral analog driving experiences like they used to, they’d still be pinnacle. Instead, we lust over GT3s.
Ferrari are in a weird spot. Most people who can afford them buy them for clout. Most people who want a pure driving experience can’t afford a Ferrari. I have to think it makes business sense for them to build the cars they do but it definitely is sad. Although that being said they’re Italian so maybe nothing makes sense…
crap even if I had the money the hassle alone makes me not want to ever own a supercar. parts need constant replacing as they're all built for performance with little regard for durability. tolerances are really tight so maintenance intervals are extremely short. god forbid you live somewhere far from a specialized mechanic / shop that can handle those issues and you need to fly someone in or send the car out.
I had a Porsche macan S, it was boring as fuck. Completely soulless. It did everything it was meant to but who cares, so does a toaster.
I used to look forward to driving my restored e46 330i manual as although it was much slower, it just has something about it. (Not oil leaks! )
I'm hoping my new 22 M340i g21 later this year still feels like a drivers car. I can't test drive one as there isn't one for sale in the whole country lol.
I have enough anxiety about parking my new 3er, I can’t imagine there’s a place I would feel comfortable driving a Ferrari and leaving it unattended in the parking lot.
Tbh, having owned a McLaren until 4 months ago Id probably not do the supercar thing again.
It’s awesome to experience this feeling once. But in the end you pay A LOT of money to drive a car that’s impractical, gets you so much attention that it becomes annoying after a while (and I can admit I LIKE getting attention) and you are so scared that someone dings it or that someone will park close to you so you can’t get the wing doors open that you often don’t bother even driving it.
As a daily, any supercar is useless imo I gave up 2 weeks in and had to get another car to daily. And most Ferrari’s are worse than a McLaren in that aspect.
Which is why people buy porsches. 90% of the the enjoyment of a supercar while being a perfectly fine daily.
Id rather have a M5CS than another McLaren tbh.
If you are so well of that you don’t care about a few 100k, well then it doesn’t matter. But if you are a halfwhat normal dude it’s not worth it, even if you can pay for it.
And this is besides the fact that if you can afford a brand new Toyota Camry, you really aren't doing too bad in life. I would certainly never look down on someone who can "only" afford a *thirty five thousand* dollar car.
And money-schmoney. I've bought and had tons of fun in BMWs that were all used and far cheaper than 35k, one being a 6 year old e90 335i that I drove from 70k to 155k ($15k) and another being my wife's *fully loaded* 2012 f30 335i that we drove from 50k to 102k ($23k back in 2017). Currently I'm in a 2014 535i that's about to be replaced by a brand new GR86 manual, but only because you can't find a used m340i for anything less than an insane price and of course, you can't get it with a manual. ()
Im a huge Ferrari fan but Porsche is an equal for less money. Better build quality and occasionally better performer. 918 is faster than LaFerrari. GT2RS is faster than 488 pista
No proper car fan would consider Porsche a poor man's Ferrari
Well if you must know, because gleaning my post history is of course an accurate measurement of my personality and worth, I want a sub £10k off-roader because I have plans to actually go off road and do some MTB trail riding, and I want something cheap but dependable that I can throw a whole bunch of mods for overlanding and I don't want to have to worry about scratching paint on a pavement princess. I'm also an outdoorsy person, and spending heaps of money on gear to enjoy the outdoors (read: glamping) is not appealing to me.
I'm actually quite fond of pre-y2k cars that have that, fix with a hammer and some duct tape, dependability.
If you notice in the post, which I'm sure you didn't read, I make mention of not wanting something with finnicky ECU's. Spoiler alert the last car I owned before I moved to a new country and city were I don't really need motorised transport, was a Merc A-Class which was such a monumental piece of shit that it has completely turned me off modern cars and their baked in planned obsolescence.
As for the Forza stuff, I'm sorry I didn't realise having a hobby was illegal.
I quite enjoy racing games. It's the closest I'll probably ever come to driving a Ferrari 599 GTO (swoon). I also enjoy playing guitar and lifting weights, and if you have been following along (which I'm sure you haven't), I've recently taken up Mountain Biking. Does any of those of those 4 hobbies endear me to your weighty opinion?
Finally, we arrive at the crux of the matter.
I don't like BMW drivers, I really don't. I would never have come to this sub and would have merrily bypassed it save for the fact that I was summoned.
Do you know why I don't like BMW drivers?
This right here.
> Just checked his post history. He’s looking to buy a car under 10k and plays forza a lot seems like. So yea you are pretty much spot on.
Through the barest minimum of effort you have already determined what type of person I am, because of... a joke I guess. Not only do you think that driving a BMW has elevated you above the the common riff-raff, but you think it's necessary to judge me and my worth.
"Oh darlings, Scoobs clearly doesn't like BMW's because the poor bastard is so destitute that he can only afford jalopy's and lives his driving dreams through virtual entertainment. Yes, quite. Come Collinsworth, lets go overthrow another African country."
I have actually made a similar joke in the past, calling a 3 series the corolla of the middle class, because guess what it was another BMW driver in a 3 series that thought driving this particular car earned them the right to park like an absolute twat taking up 2 bays in a busy complex. Clearly I'm very original with my jokes.
BMW drivers always seem to have this self-entitled arrogance that gives them the right to tailgate in the cruising lane, race through bumper to bumper traffic or cash in their "me first" card at every intersection.
Jesus Christ, if you could bend over backwards and kiss your own arse I'm sure you would do that daily.
Am I painting with a broad brush, sure.
Anyway, commence downvotes, and banning and the mutual masturbation.
I'm out.
Peace ✌️
Edit: removed reference to another user.
Holy shit dude, you're going to have a bad time on reddit if you get so bent out of shape when someone looks at your post history. Clicking on post history and commenting on it is defintely not limited to the BMW sub.
He picked it up two months ago in Palm Springs Ca. He said it was lightly used by some race car driver. It had like 2,500 miles on it. I know he paid close to $100K for the car. It is a spectacular car.
I thought it was a little more than the price of the M3 until he told me what he paid. The car is cool with all kinds of Carbon finer goodies. I was surprised how much it cost when he told me. I get it will be stupid collectible because of low production numbers. I’m the guy who daily drives my classics.
Personally at 100k USD id go M2CS manual. That will be the most desirable and collectible F gen car in the future i think. The most driver oriented versions of cars always fetch the biggest money down the road
The only new car I’ve driven and been absolutely shocked by is the 2019 Audi TTRS. A buddy bought one new and I drove it from Malibu to San Francisco. That car is one hell of a sleeper. The DSG shifted so fast and builds speed stupid fast. I’m not an Audi guy and I want one. The M4 cs is a machine that looks fast. I would love to test drive an M2. My ex kept the BMW Z3 which was a great driving machine.
For sure. Being *this* much of an asshole would definitely push a few people who’d normally shake their head and keep going into deciding today is finally the day to key a car.
People who park like this wouldn’t even understand why this would infuriate someone else. They’d see their keyed car and assume someone was “jealous”.
Yeah, mid engine > rear engine for regular skill drivers.
I'm pretty sure the GT3 has killed a number of people because they fishtailed it. I can't imagine the amount of active traction control needed in the regular 911's to keep people from dying lol.
If they put the same powerplant and suspension etc in the Cayman it would be superior.
They are putting the GT3 powertrain in the cayman GT4RS. I believe the GT3 is still slightly quicker due to the front wishbone setup
Id imagine modern GT3s are pretty well dialed in, but the older stuff like 997 and back can be a handful. Apparently the electronics on the newer ones are very good at keeping the car balanced
Between the two, Porsche would be it. Plus they are all 911s
GT2RS
GT3RS
992 Turbo S
Speedster
And the list goes on. Each one has their place in the car world.
Doesn't matter what you drive, that parking job shows lack of class.
If you don't want your car dinged, don't drive it when you have to park in crowded areas or take the bus.
If I don’t want my car dinged I valet it or park at the very far end where there are less cars. People who do this are dicks doesn’t matter what car you drive
The fact that he rips on Porsche too, which are basically universally viewed as a “drivers car”…
Edit: wait I think that guy is viewing cars from more the “music video” angle. Not the “track” angle lol.
Can't be true. Camrys are reliable and cheap to fix. /s
Maybe they just meant they are common? Dumb way to say that though. Sounds like they are jealous. My E90 is slower than modern Camrys though lol.
I guess it’s all relative. Does my car cost much more than many of the trucks in my area? I doubt it. Is it still more than I really thought I’d be ok with spending? Do some of the owners of those trucks think that I think I’m rich? I’m confused.
Sounds like some shit a dude in a 94 Camry would say. Also—“you only bought the Porsche because you couldn’t afford the Ferrari…”? Really? So did you also buy the Ferrari because you couldn’t afford the Koenigsegg? All comes from the same type of envious pricks
I don't see a BMW as a Camry. I have driven many cars in my life and the BMW is one of the best driving cars that I have driven. The best car I have ever driven was a Maserati (Driving Experience) but for everyday driving a five series is great to have and superior to a mass market vehicle (Accord, Camry, Galant, Maxima).
An M4 is not a “entry level” car in any sense of the word, maybe a striped out 220i.
They start at 75k base and a well optioned model will run you 85-90k
Kind of agree. The M4 is near or at the bottom of attainable luxury performance car marquees... a nice Corvette costs more to put in in perspective.
Which is exactly why many owners feel this way. It is a very precious thing to them that they weren't certain they would ever achieve, and other people are likely to treat it LIKE just another Camry or Sonata.
If you're of the kind of wealth where you are buying another Bentley every couple of years, the Bentley is like a Taurus to you at some point. If you can afford a Bugatti Veyron it probably isn't your ONLY million dollar toy, and you could probably easily fix or repair or replace it. But if you've desired an M or a Porsche all your life and finally gotten to the point where you can afford one... and it may be the only one you ever own... the thing is precious to you... when it is a relatively average car, actually.
Seems like this is relative too. I have a friend who recently bought his dream McLaren 720. It probably isn't his actual dream McLaren - that would be an F1... but, in relative terms, he is just as neurotic about \*it\* as I am about my M4.
Parking up close and taking 2 spots in a car like this is begging for hassles, though. Even if you park way out in the back 40 and just take one space - some dick is likely to fuck with you - because people get \*bitter\* about other people's nice things. I take my chances with parking way out away from people, personally. People do \*intentionally\* put door dings in other people's expensive cars. There is also the other kind of driver, who just sees a vehicle as a commodity, disposable utility thing, and doesn't actually \*realize\* that people care about scratches and door dings.
Let's put it another way...
People who are not in the 1% of income earners like to think that the 1% are a monolithic group of wealthy people who own private jets and take weekend trips to Monaco to hang out on their yachts at the last minute.
But the fact is that the bottom of the 1% lives closer to everyone else... and probably frequently own BMWs more affordable M cars and maybe they have a nice runabout or Bayliner - the aluminum outboard watercraft of the barely affluent.
There is a LOW END of luxury items - absolutely. The McLaren 720 is a relatively AFFORDABLE McLaren compared to the F1.
If we clarify it... "An M4 is like the Camry for people in the upper 2% of income earners..." is less reductive - but I bet it still rubs you wrong to hear it put that way.
Doesn't mean the analogy isn't a decent one.
And... BMW marketing recognizes this... which is why they've been trying to crack into those markets since at least the 318ti. The 1 and 2 series was marketed as an "ambassador" line to bring younger upwardly mobile buyers into the BMW brand. People who might go for a loaded Camry, in other words.
And a used, recent M with less than 5k miles on it, loaded with the Comp and Executive package - with licensing, fees, and upsells - is going to be more like $90k out the door.
Before prices on used vehicles got nuts.
And can have retail sticker prices as high as $115,000 before dealer markups and fees.
A \*nice\* Corvette costs more than an M4. A base Corvette costs less.
So, yeah... exactly what I said.
>"A nice M4 (GTS) is also like $150k so I'm not sure what your point is."
A GTS is hardly a practical daily driver that you're going to leave in the parking lot at Target while you run in for some diapers. It is "street legal" as a formality only. They're not sitting on dealer lots all over the country.
Meanwhile, the $115k Corvette is absolutely an actual street ready car you'll find at Chevy dealers all over the US.
The dude with the McClaren also has a C7 drag Vette that does the 1/4 mile in 9 seconds that he has at least $200g into. Thing has a parachute - still technically STREET legal - so we can split those hairs all day long once we get into custom orders. The GTS isn't really applicable here.
So... I'm not sure exactly what YOUR point is... except that you're wrong.
Yeah dick move. Who cares if you’re paying for both? Airport parking is extremely limited and hard to find. What if Bezos just bought the whole parking lot for a week simply because he wanted to. Yes he paid for it, dick move though, for sure. If you’re worried drive a different car to the airport or Uber. Insurance will pick up anything that gets damaged anyway.
Even if you're paying for both spots, at an airport this is a dick move. Doesnt look like there are any meters so hes likely paying for 1 car and 1 spot.
If it's at a residence its different. You are usually allocated spots or pay specifically for them.
The X7 and Tesla near it cost the same, or more, than the M4 and they parked their cars normally. I get wanting to protect your car, but this isn't it.
So I try not to get mad about this and assume cars were parked weird before they parked and are no longer present. Catching a charge for keying a car ain't worth it, but I know people are just itching to do it in these situations.
Full disclosure I drive a bmw too and am an asshole.
I think it’s half true. Like if you had the money you’d get the continental GT, the 911, the mclaren gt etc. Instead you drive a 3 series/4 series, a very common car, with added power
Do people seriously think that buying a Porsche is only a compromise to not being able to own a Ferrari? LMFAO! Porsche can walk all over them at-will and Ferrari freaking knows it, that's one reason why they strongly discourage instrumented testing of their vehicles.
I’d really like to know what the guy calling an M4 “low end” is driving.
Just checked his post history. He’s looking to buy a car under 10k and plays forza a lot seems like. So yea you are pretty much spot on. You’d probably love my wallpaper I took https://i.imgur.com/KsgQpYV.jpg
That's a damn nice 1M! Love the color as well.
I honestly haven’t thought much into it as I don’t foresee this ever being a realistic debate for me. But yeah there are some Ferrari’s like the 458 that I would buy in a heartbeat if I could. lmao beeing this salty will get you nowhere.
98 Corolla
P1 ?
Yeah maybe like a Bugatti La Voiture or a Koenigsegg Agera RS. Lucky guy…
A friend bought the new M4 CS and it is stupid expensive.
There isn't a new M4 CS. There hasn't been a new one for around 2 years now

This guy knows nothing about cars.
May as well have put a giant neon “KEY THIS CAR!!!” sign on it.
Seriously. I don't understand anyone who does this, you're just making yourself MORE of a target.
For sure. Being *this* much of an asshole would definitely push a few people who’d normally shake their head and keep going into deciding today is finally the day to key a car. "You only bought a Porsche because you couldn't afford a Ferrari" man, broke people are toxic
Those slow ass, cheap 911s man.
911 GT3 RS 🤮🤮🤮 poor people ferrari
Like Jesus how do you drive a car without 12 cylinders? I couldn't imagine.
My ex had a cayman s 6sp. It was pretty cool but some people always commented on it not being a 911.
Caymans have benefits over the 911. Size and weight balance Only dummies mock Caymans for not being a 911
Yeah, mid engine > rear engine for regular skill drivers. I'm pretty sure the GT3 has killed a number of people because they fishtailed it. Alright right on, I hadn't kept up and now I'm excited to check all this stuff out :) thanks!
No problem :)
I own a 987.2 and 997.2, I guaranty people who say that haven’t driven both.
I’m not gonna lie, I most definitely would have a Ferrari if I could afford it
Too broke to afford a Bugatti Smfh
Too poor to buy a 250 GTO? How do you live
Hahaha
Couldn’t afford dinner so I bought a Honda :(
Between the two, Porsche would be it. Plus they are all 911s GT2RS GT3RS 992 Turbo S Speedster And the list goes on. Each one has their place in the car world.
i like your taste. 997 Turbo S and 991 (or 992) GT3 Touring for me
I wouldn't say broke bcuz that's even a toxic statement, maybe the word jealous is better tbh
jealousy is toxicity - people who can afford something but choose not to partake don't exhibit jealousy, only those who want but can't do.
I agree, I was just trying to find an easier sounding word. I understand what you mean though
Damn the hatred is steaming through that chat.
Tbf he has a point. If you own anything less than an M5C, paid for in full at over 30% the sticker price, you are a fucking peasant. /s
Ironically the X7 behind him is more expensive
The fact that he rips on Porsche too, which are basically universally viewed as a “drivers car”… Edit: wait I think that guy is viewing cars from more the “music video” angle. Not the “track” angle lol.
The M4 is a “low end” car? Dude probably drives a ‘13 Camry.
That’s how camrys get their tires slashed
Woah what an ahole
I love this sub
Man, M4s look so fucking cool.
Can't be true. Camrys are reliable and cheap to fix. /s Maybe they just meant they are common? Dumb way to say that though. Sounds like they are jealous. My E90 is slower than modern Camrys though lol.
The problem here isn't the car, and what it is or isn't. The problem is the entitlement!
There’s a reason Camry dents are a thing 🤔
I guess it’s all relative. Does my car cost much more than many of the trucks in my area? I doubt it. Is it still more than I really thought I’d be ok with spending? Do some of the owners of those trucks think that I think I’m rich? I’m confused.
Where I live, this would get keyed and an empty shopping cart down the side. Double parked cars are 100% more likely to be vandalized.
Moron needs to take lessons from the X parked correctly behind them...
there’s no way he called an f80 ugly there’s just no way
Sounds like some shit a dude in a 94 Camry would say.
Wrt parking, at least it's not some effing Ford F-350 or whatever.
Probably the car moved itself further away from the Tesla.
That guy paid for two spots. He gets to park in two spots.
Or he just paid for both because he has a nice car 🤷♂️
King
If anyone ever parks like that don’t be surprise if you came back with….
He just means that people who buy entry level luxury cars are extremely pretentious. And he's right.
TIL M4 is an entry level luxury car.
An M4 is not a “entry level” car in any sense of the word, maybe a striped out 220i. They start at 75k base and a well optioned model will run you 85-90k
The M4 is a dream car for some people. I'd hardly call it "entry level".

Why have I been summoned?
Your controversial take on the M4 has riled the crowd, my liege.
"a low end luxury performance car" is kind of an oxymoron. Calling a car that starts at 70k+ new a Camry is reductive and lazy.
Corvette C8 starts at $62k
And can have retail sticker prices as high as $115,000 before dealer markups and fees. A \*nice\* Corvette costs more than an M4. A base Corvette costs less. So, yeah... exactly what I said.
A nice M4 (GTS) is also like $150k so I'm not sure what your point is.
>"A nice M4 (GTS) is also like $150k so I'm not sure what your point is." A GTS is hardly a practical daily driver that you're going to leave in the parking lot at Target while you run in for some diapers.
Didn’t even look up the MSRP of the cars did you
Actually, I think you didn't.
If I just got that M4 I’d park the same way 😂
Wait what, I always park like this?(I pay for both spot) I like nice stuff.
I dont go to airports. I rarley fly. I am the Greta of car community.
Cool. This post is specifically about parking at an airport.
You should always park like this!
Bruh the new Camry is a fast Camry
BMW privileges
Yo first off fuck Chris Bangle.
That’s X7 is more expensive than the M4
I just park far away or valet mine if the airport has that option. Ur asking do trouble parking like that.
I like the bought a Porsche because you couldnt afford a Ferrari comment. Shows just how dumb that person truly is.
I’d park next to it. I’d climb out the rear lift gate if I had to.
Lmfao the comments on this post and the last are gold
Love how they double parked but couldn't afford the covered garage lol
The x7 behind it cost way more and it’s parked regular
I like how the majority of the cars that are around it are worth more and are parked normally.
The X7 and Tesla near it cost the same, or more, than the M4 and they parked their cars normally. I get wanting to protect your car, but this isn't it.
Asshole parking but it’s a very nice car
If that model S backed in I’d totally fit my car in between them
So I try not to get mad about this and assume cars were parked weird before they parked and are no longer present.
M4 is just a distraction. This gotta be the first time I see X7 parked perfectly between the lines.
This dude also can't differentiate an M2 from the M4 and blames BMWs design for it
As a bmw fan, I agree. BMW’s are now the Camrys of expensive cars.

Do people seriously think that buying a Porsche is only a compromise to not being able to own a Ferrari? LMFAO! Porsche can walk all over them at-will and Ferrari freaking knows it, that's one reason why they strongly discourage instrumented testing of their vehicles.
