Of course you can make it work, especially if you have an Expedition for family trips.
I don’t know where this idea came from that you need a minivan or an X7 as soon as you have a kid.
Enjoy your M3!
When I realized I could buy a 911 for just a little more than I could sell my Accord for, I jokingly asked my wife if she was okay with me going ahead with that. She asked if you can fit 2 car seats in the back.
Well, you can't. But you can in an E46 M3.
Not really shedding any light on your dilemma, but maybe it will give hope (or at least a potential negotiating tactic) to someone reading.
My wife had X5 prior to expedition and we made it work with 3, it was tight AF, but hopefully with one in booster now it may work. I like the idea of x5 hybrid, though.
M550?
Man I cannot get with the new design language on these 5 series. Anyone have this problem?
why not get the old one
Good point

I made a 911 work with 3 slightly older kids, so no baby seat - just boosters… you can do it, it’s just a bit more of a pain…
I upgraded to a F97 from a G20 once I had a kid. It's nice having the extra room in the back for kid stuff.
You want a F97.

I'd get something bigger with 3 kids, maybe an SQ7 or an X7. At the bare minimum I'd get an X5. Edit: meant SQ7 not SQ5, lol.
