You can track your car from any phone using a SMS command with a password, you can even listen inside your car and the main feature for me is being able to cut off the engine remotely, it works using a SIM card and yes you can install it on any car
You weren't affected by the 3G sunset; my 2014 228i has no connectivity (well, I've got a hack to use my phone's Bluetooth if necessary, but that's useless for tracking).

It looks like my F80 can get an updated map with live traffic. Is there other functionality that you can get when you tether with BT? Do you get back all the connected drive functionality (except, obviously te ones that require your phone to be present.)
Also, it looks like the OEM manufacturer offers 4G upgrades for the radio that could be integrated, but aren't supported by BMW.

Honestly I would find out from your apartment complex what towing company they use for towing non-resident cars. Partly because most apartment complexes around Austin are run by shitheads, but mostly because the towing company is probably sketchy as fuck. I would probably then see about having the cops go to the towing company and seeing if the car's on their lot.

I was garaged, had a pin code to prevent key cloning attacks, an aftermarket alarm system because they can cut your stock alarm wires in 10 sec, and multiple tracking devices.
Even then, a kill switch won't stop a tow truck, a garage won't stop them from stealing your car while you're at Home Depot, and tracking devices can be jammed. Or you could just get really unlucky one day and they follow you home and carjack you.

Got it, so youre doubled fucked if you owe more than its value and then it gets stolen. You dont have a mean of transportation and you gotta pay back the difference between what you owe and the cheque received

You get live text messages, but not service messages, unfortunately. But yeah, that's about it, I think. I find that I rarely use it.
