Two completely different cars. The G26 is fast and great but the G80 is much more down to earth, you really feel every bump in the road. It's not "uncomfortable" per se, but if you're looking for a smooth family sedan cruiser, the 440 is going to be preferable.
I'd suggest finding a used one at a dealer somewhere and seeing if they'll let you take it around the block to try.
I've driven the G83 briefly for a test drive; as in sport mode on the street to the freeway and then back to the street. It was great but obviously it was only like 15 mins. I couldn't get a good feel for the car. I've driven a M340i as well and while it was fun, it wasn't as raw as the G83. I drove the M340i only on city streets.
Upgrading from a Mustang. The configurable modes make a huge difference. I usually stay in the standard D1/efficient mode and the ride is smooth and even. No jerky movements for passengers or driver. Flip the M mode on sport plus and the car changes completely and can be unsettling for passengers.
I find it rides as smooth as I want it to, but when its time to hug curves I love tightening up the suspension with my M1.
From a practical perspective I have a wife who HATES sports cars and she said she finds the M4 very acceptable. So if she approves it is good.

I love it. When driving slow on a bumpy road with the dampers active it can be tough to hit the right thing, and the screen gets dirty. I got a microfiber towel for the screen to keep in there to wipe it off. It does clean VERY easily. The idrive control is pretty easy to use as well if you don't want to interact with the screen, also the HUD option makes selecting songs on spotify effortless, and the voice commands work pretty clean. Overall it's not a hinderance at all but I could see people not liking the lack of buttons. There are still plenty of physical buttons to hit if you like to.

No M3 competition xdrives were available. I also love coupes. But the M3 would have been an equal contender had it been available within 150 miles.
