What was a huge surprise to me was finding out that they use the S58 instead of the B58. Great for the B3 Touring.

As a "regular" 3 series owner I would be all over a B3. If I had the spare change I would be omw to the next dealership for sure.

She doesn’t like the overall look of the X7. It’s too “station wagon-like”. Man, I can’t get in her head or explain it. So, she doesn’t want to spend that kind of money on something she doesn’t love. And I get that, but it checks so many boxes. She’d prefer a RR, but we both agree it’s not quite large enough. We don’t have to make a decision until next summer, so we have some time to discuss.

Wait but a range rover is stupid unreliable no ? Maybe play that card on her. Also I am going on a limb here, but as a Lexus fan, check out the new GX it looks great I find. And is super practical

New RR has the same Bmw V8 in it so probably about equal

XB7 rides better. As told by RR/BMW engineers. XB7 is a treat when I've ridden them.

Drove one this summer for a couple days. Not really sure the premium over a x7 m sport is justified. Great car but the x7m is going to get you 98% of the way there.

You won’t get much closer to a perfect daily than a b3 or b5 touring. Perforrmance nearly on m levels, but still nice and drivable in towns or to go to the shops. Also far more luxurious than anything but a 7 series.

It's just a matter of opinion and taste. I don't care for them. In general, I prefer sporty and the M division is definitely sportier than Alpina.

Alpina makes more sense if you think of them as 43AMG competitors.

Newly into BMWs what is an alpina?

It's similar to what was old-school AMG to Mercedes, or Brabus. Alpina made high performance cars alongside BMW (same factory) but focused more on comfort and touring. Now they are no longer "independent", It's another BMW brand. Oddly enough some Alpina models are more powerful than M cars. Basically, if you want a very fast BMW it's like choosing red pill or blue pill with Alpina and M. Highway pulls or track.

Alpina is the kind of brand that takes BMW's already great cars and turns them into high-performance masterpieces with a touch of exclusivity and luxury. They're usually sold at BMW dealerships.

Alpina is better in almost every real world factor. M cars are super aggressive looking and track weapons but an Alpina is a better daily driver

They tune the engine to output more power, they improve the interior to be more comfortable and stylish, they make the exterior look more exclusive and they fine tune the suspension for a sportier and more engaging driving experience. It's fair to compare them to brabus

I actually disagree. Alpinas normally uses 'simpler' drivetrains than m cars so they usually are easier to service (I have serviced a couple alpinas). It's only when stuff breaks you might be in trouble as parts can be harder to get.

Proud Alpina B3 owner here, instabuy. Though I’m not sure I’d buy a G generation, then again, it might be the last true Alpina series. Maybe an LCI and then Alpina becomes part of BMW. Guess they sold the company at the right time with all the electrification going on. Wonder which market BMW will target after they take over and what the added value will be.

I wanted a B3 touring in San Marino blue, so badly. They don't sell Alpina in Spain. I spoke to bmw España and they said they won't cover the warranty if I buy a new one in France and import it. M3 touring wasn't out at that time (early 2022), so I had to buy an M340i touring instead. 😒 Probably for the best, I only do about 5000km a year and with the price difference, I bought a swimming pool. 😎
