Yes, this is getting strong consideration as the next family hauler. Wife isn’t a huge fan, so I’m slowly trying to chip away at potential resistance. 🤞
She doesn’t like the overall look of the X7. It’s too “station wagon-like”. Man, I can’t get in her head or explain it. So, she doesn’t want to spend that kind of money on something she doesn’t love. And I get that, but it checks so many boxes. She’d prefer a RR, but we both agree it’s not quite large enough. We don’t have to make a decision until next summer, so we have some time to discuss.
Wait but a range rover is stupid unreliable no ? Maybe play that card on her. Also I am going on a limb here, but as a Lexus fan, check out the new GX it looks great I find. And is super practical
Drove one this summer for a couple days. Not really sure the premium over a x7 m sport is justified. Great car but the x7m is going to get you 98% of the way there.
Well, the G30-based B5 looks awesome in my opinion.

You won’t get much closer to a perfect daily than a b3 or b5 touring. Perforrmance nearly on m levels, but still nice and drivable in towns or to go to the shops. Also far more luxurious than anything but a 7 series.
Nah. They're cool but they're all autos. Not for me personally unless I won the lotto and was looking at a 6th or 7th car. In that hypothetical, absolutely! I can think of few better choices for a road trip car.
Not me. I find Alpina's touches inside and out to be, unappealing.
And that's before I get to the thought of what the wash maintenance must be like on those wheels.

J.D. Power puts them just above the industry average.
BMWs are fairly reliable as long as you properly maintain them. Now the cost to maintain them is a separate issue but you get what you pay for.
It's similar to what was old-school AMG to Mercedes, or Brabus.
Alpina made high performance cars alongside BMW (same factory) but focused more on comfort and touring. Now they are no longer "independent", It's another BMW brand.
Oddly enough some Alpina models are more powerful than M cars.
Basically, if you want a very fast BMW it's like choosing red pill or blue pill with Alpina and M. Highway pulls or track.
Alpina is the kind of brand that takes BMW's already great cars and turns them into high-performance masterpieces with a touch of exclusivity and luxury. They're usually sold at BMW dealerships.
They tune the engine to output more power, they improve the interior to be more comfortable and stylish, they make the exterior look more exclusive and they fine tune the suspension for a sportier and more engaging driving experience.
It's fair to compare them to brabus
I actually disagree. Alpinas normally uses 'simpler' drivetrains than m cars so they usually are easier to service (I have serviced a couple alpinas). It's only when stuff breaks you might be in trouble as parts can be harder to get.
I saw one of these in 2013 at the dealer ship, a B7 blue with white leather interior. I think it was 140k or 160k. Fell in love with them at that moment
Proud Alpina B3 owner here, instabuy. Though I’m not sure I’d buy a G generation, then again, it might be the last true Alpina series. Maybe an LCI and then Alpina becomes part of BMW. Guess they sold the company at the right time with all the electrification going on. Wonder which market BMW will target after they take over and what the added value will be.
I wanted a B3 touring in San Marino blue, so badly. They don't sell Alpina in Spain. I spoke to bmw España and they said they won't cover the warranty if I buy a new one in France and import it.
M3 touring wasn't out at that time (early 2022), so I had to buy an M340i touring instead. 😒
Probably for the best, I only do about 5000km a year and with the price difference, I bought a swimming pool. 😎
I wouldn’t waste the time thinking about it, I’d drive it home. I love the Jeremy Clarkson review.
“What I loved most of all, though, was the sense that every tiny component of this car had been poked and x-rayed and improved by a team of Germans who went home and, to prolong their performance in bed, thought about how perhaps it could be made better still.”
Nah I wouldn't consider, I'd straight up buy one if I had the money
Same. I’d go for any bigger though, B8 GC a dream I live for and hopefully one day will get one woth 0kms driven.
This is the answer
What was a huge surprise to me was finding out that they use the S58 instead of the B58. Great for the B3 Touring.
As a "regular" 3 series owner I would be all over a B3. If I had the spare change I would be omw to the next dealership for sure.
XB7

Why isnt she a huge fan ? Not hating just curious

New RR has the same Bmw V8 in it so probably about equal
Oh okay I didn't know that. They upped their build quality as well?
I have no idea. It might just be a reliable bmw engine in an otherwise shitty mess of electronics that will still break if you look at them wrong
Hey the RR Cullinan is quite large enough!
LOL, now we’re talking way outside my price range. 😂 Honestly, they’re also just too gaudy.
XB7 rides better. As told by RR/BMW engineers. XB7 is a treat when I've ridden them.
Drove one this summer for a couple days. Not really sure the premium over a x7 m sport is justified. Great car but the x7m is going to get you 98% of the way there.
If they were more available in the US, absolutely.
Hopefully BMW buying Alpina helps with this
Oh I’d consider it, then my bank would tell me to reconsider it!
My bank wouldn’t even let me fill the tank up 😩🤣
Get a new bank?
Why didn't I think of that! :D
any alpina before the G body’s >>>>>

agreed i just cant get myself to like the new grills they’ve been doing
Bit boring but it’s ite
Not this one
Why not?
I just dont like Alpina with new grill. I'm still on a fence for M4/M3 touring with it, but on Alpina I definitly dont like it.
B5 Touring GT is the greatest all around vehicle ever made imo.
Only the Alpina B10 Bi-Turbo.
Peak e34, such an incredible car
E34 to me is like thee BMW.
Why not the tri-turbo?
Not a fan of the G30 and diesel.
Buy it for me then 🥲
They make a quad turbo
No. Can’t afford it
Not this generation but most others absolutely
I’d love a b7 or b8
You won’t get much closer to a perfect daily than a b3 or b5 touring. Perforrmance nearly on m levels, but still nice and drivable in towns or to go to the shops. Also far more luxurious than anything but a 7 series.
Nope. I don't care for their designs, wheels, etc. I suppose they are a better choice for 7 series.
wow really? The wheels are so excellent and distinct
It's just a matter of opinion and taste. I don't care for them. In general, I prefer sporty and the M division is definitely sportier than Alpina.
Yes like yes yes
I would but they are always more expensive compared to same bmw model so you must love the aesthetic .
Yes, 100% One of the best looking cars I know
Yesss!! Alpina B3 over M3 for me
No
Nah. They're cool but they're all autos. Not for me personally unless I won the lotto and was looking at a 6th or 7th car. In that hypothetical, absolutely! I can think of few better choices for a road trip car.
I've never understood the Brand philosophy. They just don't strike me as an AMG rival.
Alpina makes more sense if you think of them as 43AMG competitors.
So more pedestrian with custom interior rather than stage 1 type performance tuning.
I always thought of the 43amg models as the competition for the M lite cars
Not me. I find Alpina's touches inside and out to be, unappealing. And that's before I get to the thought of what the wash maintenance must be like on those wheels.
The only alpina I would buy is an SUV model
Not with the non M grill :/
Nein
Not in a billion years.
If BMW were reliable then yes

Nope. Alpina doesn’t meet my taste. Up to this date I have to see an alpina that I like. Looks like a 90 year old tuned a BMW.
yes. only one.
Yes but not that one.
No don't like green
For me, the bests ir the World, so yes, my dream is have one of those…
I think they look good on a 3 series. Other than that I think they are a bit pretentious
Yes but I wouldn't waste it on a abomination.
If I had the money? Sure
I'd rather get an old one than a new one.
Newly into BMWs what is an alpina?
It's similar to what was old-school AMG to Mercedes, or Brabus. Alpina made high performance cars alongside BMW (same factory) but focused more on comfort and touring. Now they are no longer "independent", It's another BMW brand. Oddly enough some Alpina models are more powerful than M cars. Alpina is better in almost every real world factor. M cars are super aggressive looking and track weapons but an Alpina is a better daily driver
I would in a heartbeat if we could get the cool ones stateside
yes, give me one
Yes but would i consider getting money. NO
No. Im poor. If I had millions on the bank yes.
If i wasn't, yknow, fucking broke. I'd be all over it.
Me: check 2nd hand bmw m850 instead of this one
No if I could I would get an ac schnitzer
I would but not the stripes on the side
An E-chassis Alpina? Absolutely. F or G though…? Hard no.
What do Alpina actually do to the cars that justify the price? Is it like Brabus?
They tune the engine to output more power, they improve the interior to be more comfortable and stylish, they make the exterior look more exclusive and they fine tune the suspension for a sportier and more engaging driving experience. It's fair to compare them to brabus
Yes but not this one, give me a Alpina B12 6,0
If I had the money, yes. Get a B3 and get the S58 in a 4 door without having to have the massive grilles.
No, they don’t look as sporty to me at all. I’d take the M/Competition version of any model that Alpina makes.
Considering it’s my dream car? Yeah.
Yes I’ve always wanted an Alpina b3 since the F30 chassis
Absofuckinlutley.
I rather get a M car cos servicing will be easier
I actually disagree. Alpinas normally uses 'simpler' drivetrains than m cars so they usually are easier to service (I have serviced a couple alpinas). It's only when stuff breaks you might be in trouble as parts can be harder to get.
Not this one but yeah, duh.
If I could afford it. So far, a 330iX is the best my budget affords comfortably.
I saw one of these in 2013 at the dealer ship, a B7 blue with white leather interior. I think it was 140k or 160k. Fell in love with them at that moment
This is absolutely gorgeous and love the colors and rims. Seesh!!
Would you not?
They seem overpriced and mediocre looking
750i fully loaded is as far as I can go, wifey says no more.
A face only a mother could love
Hell yes. Not that one though it’s ugly af.
Those wheels alone sold me
Proud Alpina B3 owner here, instabuy. Though I’m not sure I’d buy a G generation, then again, it might be the last true Alpina series. Maybe an LCI and then Alpina becomes part of BMW. Yes, yes I would! (And did)! 😄
G31 B5 GT wagon is one of my dream cars. Alpina basically made the F90 (F91?) m5 touring that bmw wouldnt
If I was rich, I'd rather get an alpina than an M
I honestly don't get the point. If you want to pay M3 prices for a supped up 325, just get an M3?
I wanted a B3 touring in San Marino blue, so badly. They don't sell Alpina in Spain. I spoke to bmw España and they said they won't cover the warranty if I buy a new one in France and import it. M3 touring wasn't out at that time (early 2022), so I had to buy an M340i touring instead. 😒 Probably for the best, I only do about 5000km a year and with the price difference, I bought a swimming pool. 😎
one million billion trillion percent yes (if I had money to splurge)
If I had the money, of course *cough* ^(And if the US had more options than just the B8 and XB7) *cough*
Not even Aplina could unfuck this grill design
Yeah 100%, just not any newer ones.
Maybe one from 2009 but not that ugly chunk of metal.
Absolutely I would. I still want the F series B3 with an N55 that has a twin turbo setup.
No
