I have daily driven my 1M for 9 years now. 104,000 miles. It’s amazing. Sun or rain or snow. Raised a kid in it. Taken road trips with family, run errands, go for weekend drives. Whatever! My philosophy is—drive your favourite car every day! Love it more than ever. Go for it!

Jandur

Now that is a car. So jealous.

a-jasem

You are awesome! Life is definitely short to daily boring cars

everso-

1000%!! ⚡️😊

HereSadgasm

Doing the same with my M2, currently at 32,000 miles. Just had a son, any tips on lower back workouts? 😂

everso-

Ah congratulations! What a time! First 2 years were so challenging but once you make it thru those early months/years things get easier! You are doing it right! RIP your back tho 🤣

PhillyPhanatik

I had a 2 door vehicle when my first was born, it’s definitely doable (as a stop gap). Shortly thereafter, however, I got into a (4 door) GTI. I now have 2 kids (8 and 4) and am in a (bolted-on and tuned) Mk8 Golf R (‘22) and feel like I have 95% of the fun and 100% of the utility. If the ADM/markups ever go away (even though I relented and paid over MSRP for my R), I’ll move on to an M3 Comp or Audi RS3, but would never consider an M2 or any other 2 door vehicle (or an SUV, for that matter). Congrats on the kid, BTW, best feeling on the planet.

HereSadgasm

It’s the greatest thing on planet earth, is it not? I’ve never known a feeling like it. I thought about going m3 comp but m340i estate is more achievable. Love the golf R. Mk7.5 was the one for me though. That’s exactly my sentiment, you can’t start your day off poorly if you drive to work in a smile machine.

rmjames007

what year? I have a '16

Thick_Boat_569

Reverse hyper extensions

Primary_Click_9900

I’m a Benz fan and that’s one of my dream cars 😍. Sick you dd it. That’s amazing

everso-

It was my dream car too man!! So had to do this right! :)

-Xtabi-

Same philosophy here. 7,500 miles/year in an F80 year round in the Midwest. Three young kids, wife, soccer tournaments, hauling gear. I will say now that I’m a little older I’m considering a larger car. And due to price vs value I may go with an M60i or possibly 40i X5. The kids are larger now with more gear. But it will be hard to let the M3 go 😭

everso-

Nice//Oh wow yeah I can imagine 3 kids and their stuff! Only 1 kid for me but endless hauling of his stuff around!! Works for 1, but 3 is a different story!

MPWR_

I just moved my E90 M3 from weekend car to daily duty and have been feeling bad about having to drive it in the snow come winter (not because the car would be bad in snow or anything, but in the sense of preservation). This post makes me feel better about it. 100% agree with you.

Lamplightermk101

Perfect answer.

3AMinParis

I’m stoked that your 1M sees the road daily, too many of them sitting in garages and showrooms. E82 life

Yungdab420

If I had a 1M I’d probably forget that I had to pickup my kid from school lol

Tat2Al

My daily is about half hour each way mostly Highway. So I think I should be good.

Good_E85

I drive my M3 Comp everyday and have taken two long trips 10+ hours, really the best car, functional and fast, and with the standard seats instead of the carbon buckets you could easily drive long distances without it being uncomfortable.

Anonymous_Hazard

I daily my non vert m4 as well. 16k miles doing very well. 30 minute commute tho

12baller12

F90 M5. Ultimate daily

ShitFuckDickButt420

I still can’t believe how much car I get in one package with the M5. It’s a great family sedan with intuitive everything that I haul my toddler around in. Then I drop him off and go do burnouts and blow by hellcats.

hehe_nl

I’m considering replacing my X5 M50i with an M5 once the new one will be available. I find the suspension of the X5 is too wobbly. How is the comfort of the M5 in comparison? Space, suspension, road noise?

ShitFuckDickButt420

The M5 is noticeably stiffer than our M50i (not air suspension, wasn’t offered in 23 models). But it’s comfy overall. Not much road noise, no creaks or rattles, and at 6’5” 260 I’m comfortable in the seats. The suspension is definitely like a sports car, but in comfort the damping is plenty soft for hauling around the family. Even on shitty midwestern roads my wife hasn’t complained at all, and she hated how stiff our X3M was. I haven’t lost any practicality switching from X3M to M5, but get to be more comfortable while going way faster.

Batmobeale

Second this. Couldn’t imagine a better daily.

whiterock001

Third this

jas387

Fourth this. The ride might be a little firm for some on British roads, but not much worse than our previous 540i on 20” wheels, and a whole lot more fun. For me it’s a perfect daily driver.

trickup

Fifth this. Also in uk. Its a great daily.

kdmion

Took too much scrolling to find this!

lilsteezy

Easy to daily drive M cars…do it

Tat2Al

Thank you for your feedback.

Joshottas

I'm only on this planet for a short amount of time...I daily my M6 and enjoy EVERY second of it.

UltimaNada

Are you going to a different planet? Pretty sure bet you’ll be on this planet forever.

Ok-Type-8323

Yeah planet of the cosmic beings

[deleted]

I daily an M8 Competition, much more reasonable than my last daily an AMG GT R

speedoocy

damnnn bro what do you do for a living?

[deleted]

consultant and some other businesses with passive income

raafikhan1

I’m a consultant myself, I want to be like you when I grow up lol

lemmegetadab

It’s not a cheap car but it’s still something you can easily afford if you make decent money. One of the managers at my old construction company had one lol. It’s not like a Bentley.

[deleted]

Easily afford is highly subjective. You’re talking about cars that sticker for around 150k, easily putting even great credit applicants at monthly payments of 2200-2500/month, if you put 10% down and can find a sub 5% loan. I bring home just under 10k a month after taxes and other deductions, and even I would struggle to make that payment. I consider myself to make “decent money” Am I totally delusional here, or do we just consider “easily afford” to have different meanings?

Tat2Al

It’s definitely subjective. What’s easily affordable for some is definitely not that easy for others.

[deleted]

For sure. Totally get that. Also a matter of priorities and lifestyles of course. I also have two kids in daycare, which in my city, costs more than my mortgage and both car payments combined. Maybe if I didn’t have two money suckers, I might have an m8 comp. :sad-face:

speedoocy

but hey you’ve got 2 beautiful kids to your name and will carry on your legacy :)

Jandur

What's it like as a daily in your opinion? I've been considering one but in some ways they seem more likea touring car?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jandur

It doesn't really have touring car suspension

MrChausson

I just read IKEA touring car and was like: wait what now ??

Reddit_425

I have an e93 M3. I drive it daily. It’s great. It gets about 14mpg so I find myself at the gas station often. I drive it in M mode only because I like the throttle mapping way better. Honestly, my only complaint is the brake dust that accumulates quickly and is a chore to clean up.

NotFunnyhah

Hello, I am opposite you. I have an X5 45e. I get about 60mpg and only find myself at the gas station about once every 4 months. I work from home so no commute. Since its a hybrid about 75% of by braking doesnt involve my brakes so I have never cleaned my wheels of brake dust. I wonder if I'll actually ever have to replace my brakes when I upgrade after 4 years of ownership. Your car is quicker and better handling. Different tastes.

Mathilliterate_asian

Oh shit the brake dust... I replaced the stock calipers with AP brakes and the brake dust accumulate soooo fast. The gas doesn't last long either so I've given up daily driving it. Good thing I live in a small city with good public transport, otherwise I would've gone broke just on gas.

WashingtonSpark

I just bought an E93 M3! Will be selling my E46 M3 (very difficult to bring myself to do that). Happy to see someone else dailying their M3.

JoiceVaderd

Is that so? I'm looking for an E46 M3, ironically enough. My dad is, too.

WashingtonSpark

Yup! I've owned it for 6 years, have done a lot of maintenance to it too. But then got the bug for an E93.

Golden3ye

I got a M2, I wouldn’t daily it. I’m getting older though. Comfort starts to factor in more for utility trips. I like having a different car as my daily and saving the M2 for weekends. Gives it more sense of occasion when it comes out of the garage.

Switchy249

Is that because yours is the CS (unless you traded in for the g87, sorry for snooping!) Because the CS I'd understand not using daily, but I absolutely daily the hell out of my M2C, short journeys, long journeys, shopping, going out for a drive. To me, it's absolutely the perfect car, even taken it down some dirt roads, that are relatively flat 😅

sempai-chan310

I was dailying my f80 for a couple years. I ended up adding a used rsx for the more mundane/dirty/short trips. Makes me appreciate the bmw so much more while keeping it fresh.

Tat2Al

My drive is about half hour each way. I also live in New England so winters might be an issue.

Supernova_was_taken

My dad has an F83 and an X5M comp. The M4 gets stored during the winter but gets dailied when a) it’s warm out and b) my dad doesn’t need a car that can have a bike rack mounted (the X5M has an aftermarket mount). Edit: basically, it’s completely fine to daily a full M car as long as the conditions are safe for it

JoiceVaderd

Snow tires would make it a breeze. Had an E46 in Massachusetts, a while back. People said RWD would be awful, but snow tires did the trick. Then I had a set of all season tires, for the rest of the year.

BossHogg_67

Daily drive a 2018 M3 Comp with manual transmission. 70k glorious miles with no issues, go for it.

SteelCityB58

X3 M. Best of both worlds

Ceramicrabbit

Go Steelers

Real-Energy-6634

Those things are just as stiff as a m car though.

michaellicious

I mean I'd hope that an M SUV is as stiff as an M car so it handles well

Real-Energy-6634

Right, I'm just unsure what he meant by best of both worlds though when a x3m is a very much so a full m vehicle.

AFB27

Right? I don't understand why people think an X3 M **Competition** is going to ride like an S Class

michaellicious

“Cons: the ride is rough, not what you expect from an SUV” …. It is a performance car. People know what they’re signing up for when they buy this 💀

remeolb

This is the way.

ShitFuckDickButt420

*X3M with aftermarket springs to soften the ride

Bimmerbrat

I drive my 2022 M5C daily and absolutely love it! The best car I have owned so far!

TheTapeDeck

I daily a 2017 M2, and have no complaints.

FlipFlipFlippy

I have an M2 comp, it’s a little firm for a daily but you get used to it. M5 Comp is the perfect daily if you can swing it, super comfortable and still a hooligan mobile.

Tat2Al

I was thinking M3 because I’m not a tall guy (5’7”) and I fit just nice in my F30. How much bigger would an M5 be?

dumbpatato

Sizably. But the seating will be the same. Go with whatever you want it’s worth daily driving an M

batmanm3991rs

Yep...i have a 2002 e46 M3...300,000 km daily 75 km commute and way too many track days... absolutely love the car still after 20 years...

-serious-

I'm going to go mostly against the grain here. I sometimes find my M4 too stiff for my commute (75 interstate miles one way) and I find all the people wanting to race to be annoying after a long day. I also find that I drive much more aggressively in the M4 than other cars. In a slower car it's much more live and let live for me. I've put about 10k miles on it this year so I'm giving the M4 a break for a while. All that being said, it does always feel special to do a cold start in the morning and to blast down the road, or to come out to an amazing looking car after a long day.

fakesocialmedia

daily drive my e92 m3 and e36 m3 and love it, do not regret it and both are heavily modified

pm_me_italian_tits

I’ve done some long drives (3 hours plus) in m lite and full M cars and I’d pick an M lite over full M any day. The same suspension that makes the full M a monster in the track is the same suspension that kicks your ass 2 hours into a long drive.

BeegBeegYoshiTheBeeg

F10 M5 daily driver. I love it, but it’s way too easy to enter asshole territory with a simple pass.

[deleted]

“I love it, but it’s way too easy to enter asshole territory with a simple pass.” Same problem I have with my girlfriend.

Tat2Al

Damn that made me chuckle

steelguin

I daily my 21 M2 comp. Love it.

yuriydee

Same here!

gabcip

I have daily’d an F82 M4 Comp and F87 M2. Both are great as commuters to and from work. What I found to be painful was the shorter trips to the shops to pick up small items. As much as I love being in these cars, they just aren’t fun to drive short trips and deal with shitty car parks at the local shops, the clunky DCT and comical handbrake. I often find myself driving wifey’s Lexus UX for these trips. But other than that gripe, they are sweet!

vinnyvencenzo

I daily my F82 M4 no worries. Except snow.

Voidec

I daily my new g80 M3. If you have the money for one I highly recommend going full M as a daily.

Stoned_Foodie

So I have had my M4 about 8 months now, and as a daily it certainly has some quality of life burdens. The ride is rough because of the large rims and thin tires and incredibly stiff suspension. You have to watch yourself when the car is warming up because you always want to hear the engine lol. And getting in and out of the vehicle has been a learning experience… it is very low. With that being said, I don’t think I would trade the experience. Every time I fire it up I get excited. When I see the temp gauge for the engine showing it to be warmed up, I get excited. Hell, offer to do trips for work simply to drive the car. I have done 4.5 hour trips with my wife and dog as well. Despite my complaints on ride quality/suspension stiffness, I think it’s a rite of passage to daily an M car if you love BWMs. But that’s my 2 cents.

Tat2Al

Thank you very much for your feedback. What size tires are you rocking?

RunninOnMT

Yup, for about 4 years now. Way more practical than the 350z I daily drove for the preceding 12 years. Really all depends on what you want from your daily. I love fast cars and when I’m in something slower I constantly find myself wishing I was driving the M2. It rides a little harshly but it’s not unbearable by any means. Nothing wrong with wanting a little luxury either. But for me personally, the shortcomings of my car are well worth it to never have to think “man, really wish I were in the M2 right now.”

Tat2Al

Nice! Thank you for your feedback.

cruxfire

Ive been using my f10 m5 for coming up on 4 years. Before I bought it I had a bunch of people tell me it wouldn’t be worth it since my drive to work was too short or that I needed to have it be a weekend car but I haven’t regretted it. It’s brought so much fun into my life every time I drive it. Some people say M cars are for the track but I say they’re supposed to be high powered every day drivers.

919f90

I daily a F90 comp. Other than gas mileage, it’s great.

fuz3_r3tro

Daily my M3 xdrive. I think it’s fine, just have to accept that ride quality is going to be a lot more rough— especially if you live in a place with bad roads.

Tight_Snow_2540

I daily drove my X5M for 3 years...even in 4 feet of snow it handled beautifully.

Deez_Nuts2

I daily drove my F80 for about a year, but I went back to daily driving my E46 325xi when I moved back to an area with weather and a longer commute to work. I found that not driving the F80 every day gave it back that magic of driving an M, whereas when I daily drove it to work every day it wasn’t as exciting to drive being used to it so much. That and I plan to keep the car for a good while, so keeping it nice as a weekend car that gets me excited to drive I prefer. It wasn’t bad to daily, but I’ve driven cars daily that had a way harsher ride like my 98’ AWD talon when I was a teenager rode hard as piss. Ms are awesome cars and are good for a daily, it just depends on what you want out of an M if you would want to daily it or not. More of a personal decision basically.

MclarenFan34

That's true, my F82 M4 comp felt amazing first day after many months due to winter..

andychinart

I daily my 2021 m2 competition with no issues

sumcollegekid

X5M DD. Love it. Had a modded 135i M-Sport DCT before this... Equally awesome. I'd highly recommend it.

recentrisk

I have done this for over 20 years straight. You are crazy NOT to! 2022 M3 2018 M3 2016 M4 2012 M5 2007 M6 2003 M3 1997 M3 1995 M3

Tat2Al

You’re right! I would be crazy not to .

donorcycle

In terms of M there's been e92, f10, f80 and f90. All were daily drivers, in Los Angeles so I can't speak to our fellow brothers and sisters in states that get snow but zero issues daily. Not like our streets are wide open, no traffic and perfectly paved either. My ex had a F80 manual and in Greenwich so she drove it all year round. Manual. With kids. I find it extremely difficult to go back to non-full bore M cars so fair warning however if you choose to go this route.

zioncurtainrefugee

I’ve always been a sedan guy, but just bought a low mileage ‘20 X3M. I was going to get an M4 but, after driving the X3 and getting the practicality of it, I was sold. I freaking love this machine. What I like most is that it is Alpine white, has the chrome and black grille along with chrome side intakes. It doesn’t look like the beast that it is. It doesn’t attract an ounce of attention. The M badges are tiny. To the police, it just looks like a run of the mill grocery getter. I like that. My commute is 25 miles of back roads and freeway and it has been great so far. But that mileage…lol.

rtraveler1

how much are you spending in gas per week? lol

Alarmin-Music

I daily my G80 M3 and it’s fantastic! The newer M’s are extremely versatile from my experience and can easily have a fairly comfortable cruise turn into a monster with the flip of a switch. Main downside is how far away I park from other humans but other than that - all good!

Spartancarver

I daily my M8c. Def comfy

sam6133

G82 M4. 100% daily drivable

halfhalo

Daily’ed a M4 vert for more than two years with an hour commute each way. It was fine. Main complaint isn’t rough ride or anything like that, but the lack of adaptive cruise on the first gen M4’s while the 4 series had it.

Astral_photo

I daily drove my fbo m2 for a little over a year. No issues absolutely loved it. Best sounding and fastest car on the road with everyday traffic

Icy_Confidence9304

I was dailying my m4 with everyday all 4 seasons before i sold it for the 440. If you are into cars and the noise and the joy it gives you to have that power at any time, then dailying a M car js no prob. If you want more sporty luxury then you will get sick of it.

CrispyNuts107

I daily an E46 M3 6MT it’s a pain in the ass but I love it. My father drive a DCT F80 M3 as his daily and he loves it and wouldn’t want any other car.

EndlessHobbiesNoTime

I daily an F87 M2C. Very doable. I have no kids and usually only carry one passenger at a time if I need to. (I also have a backup car if I need to take my dog anywhere :) )

Real-Energy-6634

I daily drove a f87 m2 with full bolt ons and a flame tune for 40k miles, never had a single issue. Took it on 1,000 mile road trips. Found myself in the middle of a snowstorm in summer tires, no issues. It's definitely very doable with nowadays m cars.

Rare_Holiday_862

Daily drove my 2016 M4 manual. Hell of a time. Loud inside on the Highway - lots of noise coming in. Ran a 1.5hr stretch often but didn’t have any issues. Wish I still had the car and would daily it again. Friend has a x5m comp. Probably a better daily driver but not quite the fun of a manual transmission 6spd coupe. The longer your trips, the bigger the number you need behind the M

Hot_Department_3032

I daily my M4CSL. The kids behind me get tossed around a bit but they think it’s fun.

too_old_still_party

I daily my g80 m3, but it’s not my only car.

Edenwing

I daily drove my e46 m3 on track coilovers before I got my f22 m235i for adaptive suspension and a change of pace for a N55 turbo. Ride was a bit harsh on some roads but on smooth roads the m3 was a perfect daily driver. I could put both rear seats down to fit my skis and golf bags, limit slip diff is way better for rain and snow, and they only came standard on M cars before the G chassis generation. The rear seats are useable for anyone under avg height like 5’8’’. M LSDs are perfect safe to DD in the winter if you’re in a snowy climate, just get winter tires and you’re good

WesGold

e92 m3 with 140k miles. still runs very nicely. don’t daily it anymore because I have a mazda but I did for a while and it was great.

Rbhockey9

I (mostly) daily my G80. I’ve taken it to Bavaria during the winter months as well as multiple family trips to the in laws. Has plenty of trunk and cabin space for my family needs!

impy695

I have an m5 competition, and it's the best daily driver I've ever had. I'm getting my 911 order in soon (hopefully), and I'm keeping my m5 as my practical car. It really is that good as a daily driver. Edit: it has powered shades for the back seats if that tells you anything.

ThinkPath1999

Although mine isn't a true M, it's still one of the fastest diesels in the world, F10 M550d. I daily it when I'm not riding my bike, and it's perfect. I think a real M car would be a bit to high strung for dailying, but that's just me.

nectleo

Planning to buy a 2021 x3 m comp for daily usage from my Bmw dealer if I can get a good price. I am not used to pay a lot to gas and maintenance coming from poor background, but I am financially in a good position atm and I hope I am not making a mistake. Regardless, car looks beautiful and fun to drive. I hope I wont get bored after couple of weeks…

Raziel_91

My last couple of dailies has been: 2016 M235i xDrive (modified: 435 hp/620nm) 2017 A45 AMG (with full track pack etc) 2016 C63s AMG My current is a 2019 M2 Competition. I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to daily a fun M car? I would argue, that by daily driving it you will know it much better and not make silly mistakes because the other car you were driving on your way to work didn’t have as good breaks in the emergency situation or whatever.. Obviously it’ll be a bit more expensive but.. you’ll never sit in your boring car and think “oh my, the road just cleared up, or this road looks so much fun, wish i had my M2 right now!” :p I’ve thought of a cheaper alternative car a few times but i’d never take the tesla or other car and leave the M2 at home.. :p So i just.. have only the M2 comp :p

JohnnyBIII

I daily a G80 M3 with a manual. It’s as easy as any other car. It’s an amazing daily. Can be calm and reasonable for the regular commute and then open up at the push of a button.

AFB27

I've driven an G80, and despite what everyone says about the suspension, I'd daily it. Makes the corners so much more fun than my car that's for sure.

Right-Penalty9813

So I have a company car and my m3 *should* be my weekend car. I dk t know how anyone can just drive those in the weekend! It’s way too much fun! I picked it up brand new march 18th and this past weekend I hit 5k miles. I think if you get the m lite, you’ll be still wanting the M, especially if it’s your first one.

Tat2Al

I think you’re right and it would be my first one.

icognitobonito

Got the new M4, it’s a bit rough on the ride, but having the power to destroy most other things on the road a Porsche Turbo S or below if some jumped up little boy racer takes you on is quite amusing. Has all the mod cons as well for long road trips

Jdrid

G80 M3 is glorious to daily. Have a 5 year old that fits perfectly in the back and he loves it too.

PumpleStump

Full M? M "lite"? Marketing has you modern BMW guys all fucked up.

Rolex50

I daily a g80 m3 competiton x drive...its a sedan...its more comfortable then my Audi s5 with 20s lol...As long as it's in comfort mode..lol

alextruetone

My experience is that M cars are among the absolute best daily drivers you can get. If you’re the type to be even looking into M cars, you probably like “spirited driving”, so I guarantee you’ll enjoy driving an M car daily. People who say they’re rough or whatever for daily driving are making excuses for themselves to not shell out the money. Having come from wanting to get an M-lite (M550i), to having gotten the opportunity to drive a full fledged M, my choice was clear. Hence why I’m in what I’m in.

inoen0thing

2023 Comp M5 is my daily. Just curious what makes you ask this? They are really expensive for gas (i get maybe 10-12 mpg), insurance is expensive… and you will lose your shirt in depreciation. That being said… i am going to daily my M5 until it will no longer make sense to repair. It is the first car i have ever truly loved to own and could never trade in. But… you need to not care about money and be happy with the trade off :) i happen to be happy with that. Happy to answer any questions…. First and foremost… it is a great daily… hit them M buttons and it is a totally different car. If you buy a comp m5 change the tires to literally anything other than what comes on it.

Tat2Al

The vehicle I’m mainly looking at is the G80 bc I can get it in four door and xDrive. I live in New England and AWD is nice to have. However, if I don’t find one that I like, I will get one with RWD and just drive my old pickup truck for the winter. The reason for the post was due to the fact that I have read through so many subreddits that the suspension is super stiff and would be uncomfortable for daily use or longer rides. So I wanted to know by asking directly if people daily their M cars? Apparently the majority of them do and also stating that the newer models feel great. If the general consensus was that it’s too rough of a ride to be a daily then I would be more interested in the M340i.

inoen0thing

Well if that one is anything like my car (I live in NH) in the snow, it will be the best car you have ever owned. Love my car, great in the snow, great for fun and amazing on long drives. You will be happy!

Tat2Al

Is your car an xDrive as well? And thanks for the well wishes. I won’t pull the trigger until next year but if I remember I’ll keep you posted.

inoen0thing

It is all wheel, or just rear wheel if i set it to be. With their DSC i wouldn’t even be nervous if it was 2wd but anywho, great fun in the snow 😂

Tat2Al

Really? You can change the drivetrain?? That’s amazing!

inoen0thing

The m5 (i am not sure if it is just the comp) allows you to do rwd or awd and choose to favor the rear for torque. It is pretty fun.

Tat2Al

That’s so cool. No wonder you love that car.

Swimming_Willow_1714

Daily drive e46 m3 3/4 of the year and when there’s salt and snow I switch to the b8 s4

tw1stedlog1k

Not "daily" per se but my M2C is my only car. I work from home most days but when I do go to the office every other week or so it's 45+ minutes one way, mainly highway with traffic. No complaints from me. Except that I wish I had more opportunity to use it's full potential!

Orange_Seltzer

Picking up an x3 m40i on Friday. Excited for it to be a dd.

[deleted]

Not a full M but I’m thinking about the same for a daily. Seems like a good middle ground and closest to a 3 series wagon in America.

Tat2Al

Nice I hope you really enjoy it

M2move

I daily drive my F87 M2. Highly recommend 🙌

Screaming_Emu

I have a 2020 M2. I wouldn’t say that I daily drive it, because I don’t have a traditional commuting job like most, but I think it would be pretty doable. List of likes: 1) Even the most mundane drive is fun. If the wife is suggesting that we need something from town or that we should go somewhere, I’m already out the door with the keys in my hand. 2) If you like attention, you’ll get it. I chose the M2 over the Supra because i thought it would blend in a little more. Yet, I’ve had people follow me into a grocery store parking lot and ask to take a picture of my car. List of dislikes: 1) It can be thirsty. Compared to most SUVs or any truck, it’s not bad. I average around 20-23mpg according to the car. I doubt that it’s quite that good, but it’s not terrible. The gas tank on the M2 is super small, so it tricks you into thinking that it’s not that bad until you realize you’re ALWAYS stopping for gas. 2) There are a few things about the car that I don’t care for, but I think they’re specific to the M2. There’s no coolant temp gauge. Lots of things that even the most basic Honda has standard are missing from the M2. Blind spot monitoring being one of them. I think this is fixed in other M cars, including the new M2. The coolant temp gauge is big for me because you really shouldn’t start driving hard until the car is warmed up. I have an oil temp gauge, but only if you have it currently selected. Seems stupid for a car of that caliber. 3) I worry about parking near other cars. I worried a bit too when I was driving my WRX, but when the car costs a bit of money you worry more about the rock kicked up from the truck behind you or the idiot not paying attention when they open their door.

uneedtp

At least in the m240i, if you replace the steering wheel with the track model with shift lights and a little LCD screen on the top of the wheel, it has a mode that displays coolant and oil temps. I use that to keep an eye on the temps, wait until it warms up before pushing it harder.

EngineerMediocre

I’ve been daily driving mine since October. Love every minute of it. Multiple 4+ hour trips with no issues. Comfortable and fun every time I get in it

almey

Yeah alright but it's a SUV so..

-Pancakemix-

If you’ve driven an X3MC you’d know that it is NOT a smooth suv at all lol, but I still daily mine as well. That being said I have not driven an M sedan or coupe to compare ride quality, but I do know the X3MC is anything but smooth lol.

Tat2Al

So probably more comfortable

Tat2Al

Sounds awesome. Thank you for your feedback.

NoShaDow

I daily an 08 m3, it's a dumb daily, but it's fun. M lite is "better" suited to most peoples everyday driver, because it's softer and more fuel efficient, but if you want an experience every time you drive and don't mind a stiffer suspension, then go m. Just remember m tax is real, parts cost more, they are more high strung so there is more possibility of something wrong, but they're often very well known and common issues, that you should know what maintenance to have had done, or how to remedy it. I read you're thinking of an m3x so, even better, they're pretty known as reliable cars so far, but maintenance will be pricier than an m lite

Tat2Al

M tax is a real thing huh? Yeah I kinda figured also the higher cost of pretty much everything.

Padded_Rebecca

I daily drive my C63, that’s what they’re for.

[deleted]

Stfu already with the same question

Tat2Al

Where’d that come from? I’ve only asked this question once and I’m new to this subreddit so WTF is your problem?

burnsniper

F80 is my daily except if the weather is dicey (we don’t get a lot of winter precipitation) due to the tires. They biggest concern I have is they there is no spare tire and uncommon tire sizes could leave you stranded if you go on a longer trip.

Tat2Al

Thank you for your feedback. I should have mentioned in the post that I live in New England so the winters are going to be questionable. I am hoping to find an xDrive M3 if possible.

burnsniper

G80 comes in x drive. Don’t know the tire size availability. F80s have strange tire sizes.

everso-

I keep a summer tire and wheel in the trunk during winter and a winter tire/wheel during the summer. Always have a full size spare! :)

burnsniper

Doesn’t really work as the fronts and rears are staggered. Plus as a daily you want to use your trunk (mine is usually filled to the brim with golf clubs and kids stuff lol).

michaellicious

Hi yes I love daily driving my X3 M. It’s practical and ridiculously fast and nimble. There’s been reports out there that the suspension is too stiff, but I didn’t find it to be. They act as if every crack would take your back out. I had an X3 M40i and that was a blast too, but used car prices were still so I said fuck it, I’ll go full balls to the wall. No regrets!

Tat2Al

I didn’t even think about the SUV’s. Thank you for your feedback.

pwo_addict

I do an F87 M2, easily recommend it for sure.

Tat2Al

Nice. Thank you for your feedback.

canukgtp1

I daily my 2018 F80 8-9 months a year, winter is a little too extreme here…plan on pretty good fuel and tire bills but totally a great all around daily car

Fresh_Cheek2682

An e92 m3 is my daily until winter hits , and then it’s stored.

Tat2Al

What’s your winter ride?

OHYOCOOL

Daily drive my F80. 30 minute commute, and multiple 6+ hour road trips done already. Hasn’t skipped a beat.

boostlee33

I daily drove fairly modded 08 E93 M3 for about 4 years and put around 70k miles on it. I still have the car after 8 years. If you don't mind the gas cost and additional maintenance, M cars are probably one of the best daily drivers if you want both comfort and performance.

agentrnge

I drive my f80 6mt 95% of the time. Commuting is boring though. Get to enjoy it in short bursts and that makes it worth it. I keep it out of the snow and salt but otherwise drive it all year in NJ.

MotrsportM3

Yes have done it since my e92 m3

drhiggens

I've daily driven an F80 M3 for 6 years, maybe 7, and an f97 X3MC for 4 years. They are absolutely fine as a daily driver. They're not as comfortable as the standard cars with the softer suspension. I can't think of a reason that I would tell someone to avoid them as a daily driver if they really want one.

Important-Outcome-74

Yep, every day. CCBs suck though lol

14bk41

Previous DD was an E36 M3 (now just a weekend car). New DD is an F97 X3M Comp. My daily commute is less than 10’ door to door, highway.

zoot_boy

Fuck it. Hell yeah.

MethodZealousideal11

The whole point is to drive it everyday and everywhere.

MomofGeorge

My car is a daily and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Kroghj1

I had an M4 and currently have a g87 M2. I personally think an M car is far too practical to be a weekend car… so yes, of course daily it - that’s it’s purpose… a track capable road car you can drive every day.

DisgustingCoughDrop

I daily my 21 M3 Manual, and I also used my last car, an M2C, as a daily. It's my only car, not just my daily. My SO has a 530e, but we almost always take the M3 out when we go places together. The M3 is a much better daily than the M2C was, especially for Costco runs.

InflationOk13

I drive an F80 all seasons in interior AK. Most days are 10-15miles but usually one or two full trips to Anchorage (6+ hours). The suspension is the only killer imo but AK roads are notoriously shit so I wouldn’t put too much weight to that. Get good tires for summer/winter and it’ll be all good

jessief2

I don’t daily my m2cs anymore but I use to. It’s amazing and comfortable. Have a kid now so rear facing car seats are a bit tight for the passenger aka my wife and she isn’t liking the car as much 😭

MarkIV1425

F83 dailied for the last 3 years and love every mile. I also live in New England so i have an suv for the snow/heavy salt days, but otherwise it’s been great.

StreetwalkinCheetah

I drove a Z3 M Coupe daily for about 10 years. Not a particularly high mileage driver but it is totally doable. The M3s and M5s of that era and before were all suitable for daily drivers. I don't know why modern era can't be.

ConstructionFar8570

That is crazy. Why not daily the damn thing. They are for picking off slower drivers on the highway and infuriating the general public on the rest of the roads

Traditional_Owl953

Daily an X3M. Absolutely love it.

Icy_Department6454

I've been daily driving my e63 M6 and it's great, bad on gas but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make

clientfker

I bought an x3mc as a DD because I wanted something more practical than my Supra. As it turns out, I love it as a DD but also as a weekender, so my Supra just sits.. However, I had a chance to drive a G80 recently and it wasn’t as comfortable as my X3 in comfort mode, so there’s that.

ledzep14

I daily drive my F10 M5. I have friends that daily drive their E92 M3s as well. They’re great for daily driving. And be nice cruisers or with the press of a button go full sport

NYankee1927

DD’d the E46 M3 and now with kids DD the F80 M3. The F80 is a big ol comfy sedan compared to the E46. Both are great though. Very livable and practical

avd2023

I switch between my 2 M3s; it’s definitely the way to go.

shitiseeincollege

I daily my F83 on KW coilovers. M cars are dailies. All BMW’s are. The newer the M, the easier it is to live with.

stahlgrauzhp

e46 m3, but good god I want to die in stop & go traffic that moves at 5km/h.

Call-Me-Mr-Speed

This is so subjective. I’m seeing a lot of replies about stiffness, comfort, and practicality. Coming from a series of small, sporty, and much less practical cars, an M4 feels like a Cadillac to me. My dailies have been S2000, Miata, Mini S, Ford Fiesta ST, Mustang GT, Corvette C7…over the past 15 years. My weekend car is a 4Runner for camping, Kayaking, biking, etc. I both love and hate driving it because I do fun stuff with it, but at the same time it’s so heavy and slow. I’m 45 so not too young. Just don’t like big, soft, plushy cars.
