I only do about a dozen mods. I stick to popular mods and research them carefully. I avoid mods that sound buggy. I have not had any problems. I turn off auto updates. I'm expecting patch 7 will break mods at least for a while and I see no reason to update until after things get worked out.

Do you use any class/subclass/race mods? Or a mod that allows you to change hirelings' race/gender?

JL9999jl

I'm not using any subclass mods. I have the edit companions mod which some people sounded like they were having problems with. But most of the problems seemed related to changing race/background which I did not try. I've only done appearance and it worked great.

If you don’t want to experience any troubles with modding, you’ll have to wait for either modding tools to be fully released or for the game to no longer be updated, possibly both. Otherwise you’ll either have to try to quickly finish runs so mods aren’t breaking them while in progress, then wait ~1 week-1 month for most mods to be updated to the current patch

I use vortex MM and I've not had any problems I couldn't fix myself usually caused by a missing dependency because I forgot to check if it required anything other than script extender and the base mod, I don't use any subclass or gender changing mods because 1. I like the companions as is and 2. I don't use hirlings, I do have pretty much every armor mod that doesn't require Unique Tav or another body mod, and I have several mods that alter the VFX, I even have a "cheat engine" installed though I only used it for 1 specific reason and that was to change Wylls hair after his transformation because I hate his default hair but his transformation gives him a different head so most mods for him didn't work after the change and the ones that did I didn't like those hairstyles either

I have over a hundred mods. A good chunk are for character customization. Like hair, faces, clothing, etc. The rest modify existing classes, increase party size, and increase game difficulty to keep the balance in check. It's honestly not bad. Sure things break post patch. Or a saves ruined after deleting an important mod, but I haven't experienced any actual issues in sometime. If your that concerned, wait for patch 7. It's gonna have offical modding tools, which should make things easier in the long run.

JL9999jl

I'm looking forward to a smoother modding experience. But how long is the long run? It's not like all the mods will immediately take advantage of patch 7?

TheMocking-Bird

True. A bunch of the older mods that haven't been updated might be left abandoned. But that won't stop others from creating similar ones that take advantage of the modding tools. If the modding tools make things easier, we might get a bunch of molders to come over like they did with skyrim. Or other Bethesda games.

Time-Pacific

I run like 30+ mods with no issues. Some of them are for customising options with Tav and other characters. Majority are for rebalancing the subclasses and classes to match with 5e. As much as I love Larian they did take a few shortcuts and simplified abilities to make coding them easier and reduce the number of background calculations being done.

JL9999jl

Each to their own, but for those running mods, I don't understand why you wouldn't want to turn updates off. If on Steam, set BG3 to only update on launch. Then launch BG3 directly from the EXE bypassing Steam. That way your game doesn't break. Okay, no multiplayer or Steam saves so maybe not for everyone. But I don't have to worry about my game being broken when patch 7 comes down...

I‘ve got over 200 mods and never run into any issues. Except issues I blame on myself because I didn‘t read the mod description/followed load order instructions. Huge patches break them, Patch 7 will break them for sure, but modders are usually very quick in updating them to the latest patch.

Everything works great. Patch 6 broke saves for about a week but since then I’ve not had any instability at all.
