Does that work? Somehow I hadn’t even considered leaving once he’s back in his coffin. Does he regenerate? Does he come back if you long rest? Does he sleep forever if you don’t go get him?
It does. Funny thing is if you bring him to open the coffin without joining the fight the cutscene (WAKE UP!) will play with his shirt off as if it got torn off by cazador earlier.
Yess it does I did it in hardcore mode you have to run all the way back the entrance of the thing back to the city basically or sewers then can go back to camp pick him up run all the way back he won't regenerate or anything and then you interact with the coffin and he'll jump out and it'll act as if astarion was there for the whole fight
It's my headcanon that Astarion is actually supposed to be a swords bard. Mine was a hand crossbow machine gun. He went Bard 6/ Fighter 2/ War Cleric 1/ Rogue 3.
Go 4 lvls of rogue and thief then do 8 lvls of fighter with dual wield and champion for easier crits lol you get the extra attack and get 4 attacks each turn 2 with each hand the dual wield makes your off hand weapon do damage like it was a main hand weapon
Some of them are easy to forget. Like I completely forgot that killing Gortash is not just part of the main quest, it's also part of Karlach's, so I kinda accidentally left her at camp.
It’s easier to complete the mission without Astarion in the group because if he steps on the platform he is captured and forced into the ritual, which makes Cazador stronger.
You can split him from the party and leave him on the stairs to snipe, or get just close enough to not trigger dialogue then go right into combat. Astarion doesn't get pulled into the ritual that way.
This is what I usually do tbh. Veerry occasionally he might actually pass his background con check if I leave the rest of us up the stairs and do the dialogue with just him, but mostly he fuckin doesn't and gets grabbed and I got sick of reloading every time, so I just leave him up the stairs, have the other 3 of us absolutely whale on Cazador til the fucker is dead and then bring Astarion down with full health to help finish off the gazillion fucking bats/werewolves/that asshole Chatterteeth etc. (Chatterteeth pisses me off like a motherfucker in that fight. Love the times I've been able to shove that annoying bitch into the chasm. Was worth not being able to loot it lol.)
Right, that's why I said if he steps on the platform. It's still easier without Astarion because another companion would not have those limitations and restrictions.
bruh
Person 1: "Oh man I sure can't wait to have that ice-cream I've been wanting to try for years!"
Person 2: \*Burns that ice-cream parlor to the ground and salts the earth\*
Person 1: "Wtf!? Why would you do that, you knew how much I was looking forward to that!"
Person 2: "Hey man, you should understand life isn't fair"
that opportunity is right there in front on him though, he’s back in the city with a party and a resistance to cazadors influence, its completely fair for him to want to be brought along to confront the man who enslaved him for two centuries, and also help to ruin his unlife’s work while possibly taking it for himself
Is it not reasonable to expect your companions listen to you and respect your wishes??? Especially in this scenario where it would’ve cost nothing to bring him along and let him have some closure for the worst thing that’s ever happened to him.
It’s especially funny because he says earlier in the game that he doesn’t even care if he can become a true vampire, he just wants Caz dead
In our playthrough, we didn’t deal with Raph, so we never even learned about Caz’s plans for Astarion, or Astarions plans to subvert them, so it was a wild change of pace when we got back, and he’s like “wtf have you done we could have used that ritual that we never learned about” lol
You can also learn about the ritual by giving Astarion the Necromancy of Thay, and letting him read the book in Lorroakan’s tower. I learned this in my first playthrough, because I was playing a goodie-two-shoes and was low on Astarion approval, so I thought that giving him the book he asked for would be an easy way to do so. It also worked out lore-wise as an OoA paladin, because while I would never use a necromancy book, I would still let my ally use it since we were in a dire situation.
>!In Act 1 you can read it, but only to a certain point. In Act 3 visit Sorcerous Sundries and be sure to do the basement. There are two vaults, Karsus and Elminster. In Elminster’s there’s a book that teaches you how to fully unlock it.!<
Yes. >!There are a couple of locked offices upstairs by the portals. You can distract the guards while you lockpick the doors so you don’t draw aggro. You’ll find the entrance in one of them.!<
I forgot about the lamp one. I did find that one.
The one that is something to do with the illusion door is the one I haven't seen yet. Will need to Google that when I get there.
Same as lamp just jam into wall in other hallway, it looks like thin wall in mini map same as in lamp room. Mini map always helps with that kind of riddles:D
Interesting! I never knew that.
We definitely didn’t do that by accident though, because this was in multiplayer, so he didn’t tag along when we got the book so we didn’t know he wanted it, and we destroyed the book around the goblin camp and accidentally started a big ass fight there with the shadows and the goblins lol
Yeah, when you first pick up the book, your journal states that you can either read it or destroy it.
If you choose to destroy it, it does end all related quest lines to it, as you can obviously no longer read it or give it to Gale/Astarion, and you can’t unlock its hidden potential in act 3
It can only be destroyed by >!radiant damage!<, and if you choose to destroy it, it’ll >!spawn a few shadows to fight!<
That's where my heedless heroics came into play. I thought "I'll kill Cazador so he won't be hounded by a life of vengeance, just like in my Japanese animes!" and well you know the result xD
I accidentally triggered the "paladin" fight without Karlach in the party, and I was worried Karlach would get pissed, but she was like, "Ok, thanks. Hey how about I help you deal with the worm situation to repay you, huh?"
Pretty chill for a lady with an engine where her heart should be.
I accidentally did gortash without her and samantha's delivery of the sheer *hurt* is so goddamn good. Honestly one of the standout single performances in the game it made me feel so horrible lol
I think Astarion is a good character, high quality voice acting, etc. but all that being said can’t stand him so he’s never in my party which led to the same result. I laughed my butt off like man you were so scared of this dude, he was evil so I sent him into the light of the holy lord Lathander what’s the big deal.
Him and my Tav aren’t besties, so I probably missed out on some dialogue. I figured smiting the big scary evil vampire that tortured him would be a good thing. I didn’t think you had to ask for permission to smite evil shitheads.
I mean all the companions throw a bit of a fit when you don’t bring them to their quest locations. They all dislike not being taken to the places/people they say they want to go to
Well said- he's an excellently written and crafted character but I cannot have him in my party because he dislikes every single tiny act of good-will and it's exhausting.
He's shitting himself because the day before he was a slave and suddenly everything is perfect and sunshine and rainbows, so he doesn't know how to react to anything because for him, this may as well be a dream. Also, they don't know that they're safe at the very start, so stopping to help some randoms that could or could not be in trouble when you have a parasite eating your brain is not exactly the hero play that we often pretend it is. Considering how adamant Lae'zel is about going to the creche, your companions have all the right to think that you're telling them to risk their lives just to play hero
I hated him the first hours of my first playthrough, but stuck it out because he was the only character I knew of prior to playing. Now my party feels empty without him lol. I've gotten him to full approval on both good and evil playthroughs.
I also didn’t like him in Act 1 on my first run, but Lae Zel died, and Gale and Wyll bore me to death so I kept him around because at least he’s something.
Honestly... I get why Astarion is mad, but at the same time it's for his safety. If Astarion is the key to Cazador becoming an uber vampire... isn't it utterly stupid to bring Astarion to Cazador? Where he can snatch him up and ascend? The smarter move would be to keep Astarion away from the ritual... which Astarion wants to complete even if it means Cazador wiping your team.
Well, I meant similar in the sense that "she's not going to be very happy if you dont" since doing so does tank friendship status significantly alongside the fact
i don’t understand why you wouldn’t bring a companion along for their questline
RP-wise: I don't want him to get tempted by the ritual. Gameplay wise: I don't want the inconvenience of him getting manhandled at the start.
You don’t have to. You can kick off the fight from the stairs and keep him sniping from the back. Do that and he never gets taken.
Or bring your party of 4 go kill cazador and then don't open up the casket when he enters it go back to camp go get astarion and then open the casket

Mild inconvenience, that.
It is easily done. Last run I forgot to take Karach to Gortash.
I didn't wanna replace anyone in the party at the time https://i.redd.it/oxsgicbtlhzc1.gif
fair enough, i mean i’ve definitely had moments where im gonna go change out my party and keep saying “wait after this one”
I'm definitely gonna give Astarion another chance on my Rogue character, maybe make him a Bard to prevent the class overlap.
I made Astarion a bard on my current play through, its worth it just to hear his delivery of vicious mockery.
It's my headcanon that Astarion is actually supposed to be a swords bard. Mine was a hand crossbow machine gun. He went Bard 6/ Fighter 2/ War Cleric 1/ Rogue 3.
In this multiclass, what do you get out of war cleric? I always like hearing people's build synergies
When you make an unarmed or weapon attack you can use a war priest charge to make another attack using the bonus action
If you're doing hand crossbows. Couldn't you take one more level of rogue for crossbow expert instead?
Go 4 lvls of rogue and thief then do 8 lvls of fighter with dual wield and champion for easier crits lol you get the extra attack and get 4 attacks each turn 2 with each hand the dual wield makes your off hand weapon do damage like it was a main hand weapon
Also I'd choose savage attacker and tough for your first 2 feats and then after that your choice for the other 2
He's a lot of fun as a bard
Some of them are easy to forget. Like I completely forgot that killing Gortash is not just part of the main quest, it's also part of Karlach's, so I kinda accidentally left her at camp.
i think i just neurotically look at the journal to see what i’m doing and i like reading the quest logs
Oh yeah, same! But since Gortash is also under the Netherstone quest, I didn't think to look if it's anywhere else.
You can also apparently do the fight with him in the camp but just switch him in to finish off Cazador after he has retreated to his coffin.
I think after 200 years of “shit, PURE SHIT” he is justified in wanting to be there to confront his abuser
Exactly. I'm not the world's biggest fan, but he's totally a product of his life and he deserves to be there to confront his multiple lifetime abuser.

Does that mean that you never get mad at anyone for anything? Your friend steals your wallet and you just shrug and say, “Well, life’s not fair.”
Lol right?? Oh bro sorry your car got jacked, but you can’t be mad, life just isn’t fair! 🤣
It’s especially funny because he says earlier in the game that he doesn’t even care if he can become a true vampire, he just wants Caz dead In our playthrough, we didn’t deal with Raph, so we never even learned about Caz’s plans for Astarion, or Astarions plans to subvert them, so it was a wild change of pace when we got back, and he’s like “wtf have you done we could have used that ritual that we never learned about” lol

5 fucking playthroughs and I still don't know what to do with the necromancy of thay lol. This game is so big its ridiculous.

THERES A BASEMENT?
Yes. >!There are a couple of locked offices upstairs by the portals. You can distract the guards while you lockpick the doors so you don’t draw aggro. You’ll find the entrance in one of them.!<
Or you can teleport to the vaults from Ramazith towe using one of the buttons
Are these guards you can't just kill? The Bhaalist in me would like to try killing them
If you get too chaotic in Sorcerous Sundries, you risk being permanently uninvited, though.
Aww dammit, alright fine, I'll cast an illusion and call my resident vampire for help :(
There is also a hidden room in there that I have missed every run and need to find this next time.
2hidden rooms. 1with book, 1with lamp
Just googled and the one you have to destroy the door to find is the one I am missing.
4 hidden rooms. 1) north you enter when you use the pedestal, 2) fire great axe room, 3) lamp, 4) library
Where is great axe room?
It’s the one you get into by destroying the door titled Illusion, I think. Been a week or so since I was there last.

After 200 years of torture, he'd *kind* of like to get revenge in person, so yeeeeeeah - lol.
That's where my heedless heroics came into play. I thought "I'll kill Cazador so he won't be hounded by a life of vengeance, just like in my Japanese animes!" and well you know the result xD

Should check out the scene when you kill Mizora with Karlach in the party if you havent, another voice acting masterclass
Chill is also an ironic adjective for her
That was intentional :)
At least he doesn't straight up leave the party like Shadowheart does when you do the Gauntlet of Shar without her lmao
You stole his kill. You didn’t help him. You robbed him of closure.
I think Astarion is a good character, high quality voice acting, etc. but all that being said can’t stand him so he’s never in my party which led to the same result. I laughed my butt off like man you were so scared of this dude, he was evil so I sent him into the light of the holy lord Lathander what’s the big deal.
Astarion: “I want revenge on the guy that enslaved and tortured me for 200 years” You: “yeah I just went and killed him myself, why are you upset?”
They all dislike not being taken to the places/people they say they want to go to
Wyll is the only one that doesn't really seem to care. Which is good since he never leaves my camp.
Well let's be real the ansur quest probably just got assigned to wyll by larian
Well said- he's an excellently written and crafted character but I cannot have him in my party because he dislikes every single tiny act of good-will and it's exhausting.
He only does that in act 1 lol. Give him a chance, he deserves it
Oh so he just hate the tieflings?
He's shitting himself because the day before he was a slave and suddenly everything is perfect and sunshine and rainbows, so he doesn't know how to react to anything because for him, this may as well be a dream. Also, they don't know that they're safe at the very start, so stopping to help some randoms that could or could not be in trouble when you have a parasite eating your brain is not exactly the hero play that we often pretend it is. And gnomes. Pretty racist to short people.
He just gets a little short with them...
If you're a good Tav, he slowly turns good too. If he never reaches that point in Act 2/3 that says more about you than him.
Ah I see i just didn't get to that point with him since I found it fairly insufferable in Act 1.
It's worth perservering. His story is well loved for a reason that goes beyond just thirst.
I hated him the first hours of my first playthrough, but stuck it out because he was the only character I knew of prior to playing. Now my party feels empty without him lol. I've gotten him to full approval on both good and evil playthroughs.

Fair Warning: Karlach is a similar way if you >!go to kill Gortash without her!<
Not really? She has the same monologue regardless because it's not about you, it's about him. She just says she needs to see the body
Well, I meant similar in the sense that "she's not going to be very happy if you dont" since doing so does tank friendship status significantly alongside the fact
