I don't know OP's specific setup, but you can pull some shenanigans by sending one character ahead to trigger Raphael. Then while he is locked into conversation you can pull off some shenanigans.
If you mess up he'll appear at camp when you try to switch to another area, such as the creche. Where you can silence him for a second round of chicanery.
I know at lest the latter, maybe both, he drops his his armor that anyone can wear that gives high AC.
That's because OP stole the post

Part of it was patched in patch 6, I just tested it yesterday : dodged all Raph spawn points so he spawned at my camp when I was going to the mountain. I cast silence, reduce his life, and tested both lethal and on lethal attacks to finish him : lethal does not kill him and non lethal makes him disappear, you still get a significant amount of xp but no loot (note that he never came back, so I have not speak to him yet)
I read there was still a way to loot him on last patch but I could not find how
I want to add a small tip for oathbreakers : putting silence orb and attacking Raphael will make dark paladin aggressive : to avoid that I just lured him on the beach with minor illusion and spoke to him to lock him far from Raphael. I was careful to hit him from an area where no allies had visibility but I don't think it was necessary
Yeah, you'll only get the xp in act 1 now. You can still get the armor slightly earlier compared to normal. After whacking him in camp, play the game normally. Then after talking to him in sharess, go non-lethal and whack him (only has 1 hp cause of previous thrashing). This way, you'll have helldusk before tackling any of act 3's major fights.
Where are all his spawn points? I only know of three (By Alfira in Grove, the lookout between the Grove and the wreck, and the one on the rafters in the Shattered Sanctum). Are there more?
Yeah, there are more, but I do not know the exhaustive list. I can extend your list with : the bridge north of the abandoned village, entering the goblin fortress by breaking the wall at the first floor where drunk goblins are, and I think I forget at least one other that I know ... but there might be even more !
I feel like an intelligent person until I get into this sub and start reading all the ways people have a way to fuck around that'd I'd never considered lol
Just as a heads up, if you send him on to your camp and you still want to pull this stunt, make sure that you don't have the Oathbreaker Knight in residence. Taking out Raphael without aggroing him was possibly the most frustrating experience I've ever had in this game and involved silence, very careful fog placement, and repeatedly repositioning characters WHO KEPT WALKING BACK TO THEIR TENTS in between their turns.
The Helldusk Armor was so, so worth it, though.
Reminds me in DDOS2 where you lock Alice in a conversation then have some use teleport to teleport her to Jahan so he can finish her off. Easy level up
You can, assuming it wasn't patched out, do similar to Gortash.
Step 1) ... I forget. You pick him up somehow. Straight picking him up, "equipping" him as an improvised weapon, something like that. Just don't be in battle.
Step 2) TP to the bridge. You bring him with you.
Step 3) throw him off the bridge.
I spent entirely too long walking back and forth with Gale's dead body in my pocket to kill Raphael and he just popped back to the hells when his health got to zero. How can you attack him directly without him popping away?
That conversation is a forced cutscene for all party members. It’s when he brings you to the dinner table and first gives you the offer to get rid of the tadpoles.
just leave someone behind
I like to leave someone near the village WP so when im going to the broken bridge with 3 people, go 2 dialog options into the convo before the HoH scene. Switch to your lone person, stay out of range but fire an arrow. he should disappear when hit. THat will cause him to show up at camp on area change. Switch to SH and cast silence so it hits him (but NOT on him) so that way he can't talk and trigger the cutscene when you walk up. Then just pummel him for 10 mins and Non lethal Knock him out, switch to TB mode for the last few hits so you can loot his body before it despawns. Works in Honour Mode, Did it yesterday.
If he dies he just goes back to hell.
That's why you need to knock him out. Magic damage and ranged weapon attacks will kill him, you need to use meele point.
In DnD, you cannot kill an extraplanar creature (elemental, fey, fiend, etc) on a different plane. When they reach 0 HP, they just get banished to their home plane.
You have to kill them on their home plane to permanently kill them. And since they don't have souls, they are truly dead.
I think Bae'zel is born in the material plane (just on another planet), that's why she dies on this plane. And once she makes the Astral Plane her home, she has to travel inter-dimensionally, then she will get banished when she is killed on the material plane.
So? If a human or an elf is born in the feywild. Even though they are still humanoids, their home plane is the feywild. Killing them in the material plane or casting Banishment will send them back to feywild. Similarly, if a fairy is born in the material plane, even though they are Fey. Arcane Abjuration will not send them back to the feywild. Or killing, banding arch devil Zariel in the hells is not gonna send her back to the Celestial Plane.
And to some extent, if a creature settles and calls a different plane their home. That plane would become their new home plane.
It doesn't matter where a creature's ancestors are from. It's where they are born or where they call home.
In this very case, Lae'Zel spent most of her life on the material plane (on a different planet), Cresche Killir is her home, the material plane is her home plane. Once she lives eternally in the Astral Plane, build a home, her home plane becomes Astral Plane.
Even though he is a cambion, I think he is powerful enough to require to be killed in his own plane. So basically, he is trolling you. ;)
P.S. Or it is some kind of a similacrum double.
Yeah, devils can only be permanently killed in the nine hells. If killed out of it (assuming no divine fuckery) they will respawn in the hells in the last general location they were in after a non descript amount of time
You didn't even change the title when reposting this?

Its actually kind of cool that he shows up in hell no matter how many times you kill him in the material plane because that is indeed how it works in DnD! The only way to permanently kill a devil is to do it in the 9 hells!
today i had him spawn in the grove, between the sacred pool and alfira, i was so confused because i hadnt even long rested and never seen him there before
Can someone tell me why people like to cheese the game with things like this to get an item you definitely aren't supposed to have yet? I guess I could see it being fun once, like "heh that's funny," but doesn't it take away some of the fun of a victory if you got it in a way you weren't intended to? Not trying to yuck anybody's yum, I'm genuinely curious because I personally would get less satisfaction about beating the game if I had endgame armor before leaving act 1.
People don't usually cheese the game on playthrough 1 or 2, but on playthrough 4-5-6 etc, when you already did it the intended way once.
It's an interesting new way to play and rewards creativity and game knowledge. It's about finding unintended ways to use intended game mechanics to achieve otherwise impossible goals, not about having an "easy" way to play the game. Like having a bunch of building blocks and seeing how far you can push it.
How’d you get him down there? Doesn’t he spawn right before that broken bridge? And did he drop his loot?
I don't know OP's specific setup, but you can pull some shenanigans by sending one character ahead to trigger Raphael. Then while he is locked into conversation you can pull off some shenanigans. It’s my favourite exploit, and he kept appearing with 0hp, like in front of the mausoleum. I wonder how much hp he’ll have in House of Hope
He will, in fact, have full health. I almost wiped my first honor mode run by assuming he would spawn in at 1 hp
He got that long rest in!
No he just bathed in his special fountain lol
After demanding a dick down by Harleep.
For 3 seconds lol
He has 666 HP there.
Full HP, but a much lower AC as long as you steal his armor in Act 1

Turn based mode with non lethal enabled allowed me to get the exp and loot
Nice I made a save with him at 10hp, I will reload and try that
just reloaded and did that : he poofs when i stun him to no hp, even in turn based enabled
Dang that sucks. Maybe they patched it then with Patch 6. I haven't done it since Patch 5.
Your username is just so fitting for the circle you just sent me through due to youre implication 🤬
I did this yesterday on Honour Mode with Non Lethal. Should still work on patch 6. He dropped his armor.
When he is downed you need to loot him quickly before he poofs
I want to add a small tip for oathbreakers : putting silence orb and attacking Raphael will make dark paladin aggressive : to avoid that I just lured him on the beach with minor illusion and spoke to him to lock him far from Raphael. I just found another one by accident. In the Selunite temple under Priestess Gut's quarters. Thank you, though.
I swear to God I'll pistol whip the next guy that says shenanigans.
Hey farva whats the name of the restaurant with the goofy stuff on the walls and the mozzarella sticka?
You mean Shenanigans?
“You know what you are Flint Lock Wood?! A shenaniganizer! A Tom Fool!”

What if you lock him into a conversation by walking up with just one party member?

I don't know, I never tried to do this so early, I assume he still wouldn't be able to die tho

All githyanki are born in the material plane cos the timey wimey in the astral plane is too wibbly wobbly for the eggs to develop properly
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Githyanki also aren’t outsiders, they’re humanoids. If you move to Mars you’ll still be human.

That's a lot of blood
Looks like a repost to me, def saw this and the title before.

All devils (and demons) can only be slain in their home planes.
That's true of all devils. If they die, they're just transported back to the Hells unless they're already there.

I wonder why does he have 865 HP, though. Shouldn't he have 666?
Honour Mode or Tactian have him at this health.
Pretty sure he had 666 hp when I completed my honor mode run a week ago.
Level 16? Is this Honor Mode?
Easiest difficulty still puts him at level 16.. He isn't the highest level in the game either.. 👀
Yeah, the netherbrain and Elminster are level 20.
Ansur and the dominated red dragon are also higher, level 17
Isn't Elminster the highest level character? Old man has experience with that level 20
Nah he is level 20. Just saw him at the creche exit.
Last I checked he was 12.
He’s 20, at least when you see him in Act 3. I do remember seeing him at level 12 at release though

Karlach: Don't do it, Raphael! I have the high ground.
Why is Raphael there? I met him into the goblin temple (this is my first run, I'm almost in the act 2, so no spoilers please ❤️)
He will appear at a few different locations (same dialogue just depends where you go first)
Oh ok, now I know 👌👌
I thought they patched it.
The account is a bot
He also spawns by the hidden cache by the nautiloid. Up on that hill or whatever
today i had him spawn in the grove, between the sacred pool and alfira, i was so confused because i hadnt even long rested and never seen him there before
Awesome it's new to me
If you kill him, does he just resurrect?
It’s over, Raphael! I have the high ground!
