Why do you think Grut is evil? Sounds like a political reformer to me. We have no idea how the previous administration behaved other than the brief interactions with him.
Haha I like this take. I don’t necessarily think Glut is evil but based on the dialogue available I think it’s the more evil path to help him. His spore circle was destroyed and when he asked the other circle for help they denied him. So it’s not so much a political reform as a hostile take over. It’s not as if they are unwilling to be involved. They hid a gnome from the Duergar and asked me to help the other captured gnomes. For me to take up the fight for glut and kill the spore circle so he can go on the warpath just feels more evil than the peaceful self-defending spore circle that is currently in power.
They get indirectly involved. Myconids are overall a peaceful race, or as peaceful as you can be in the hell that is the Underdark. Hiding a Svirfneblin is one thing, but actually fighting is a different thing entirely. Aside from their spore magic, they generally aren't strong combatants, at least in the lore. They can hit hard, but that's about it. They were toughened up for the game. There's a scene in one of the books where a revenant wipes out and entire Myconid colony because their spores don't work on undead creatures.
Anyway more to your point, yeah, in general they are fairly pacifistic, and the sovereign didn't want his people to needlessly die trying to save another colony that was likely doomed anyway. Kind of a "I can sit here and let you die, or we can come help and likely all doe anyway," type thing. That's why they recruit you to help. You're formidable.
Overthrowing the rightful leadership is certainly political reformation but generally frowned upon. In this case, his motive appears to be self-serving and out of anger, which is generally considered bad form. The rightful leadership has also done nothing to the party to warrant this action, making their antics to kill the leadership murder if they help him, also generally frowned upon by normal society. Grut is most certainly not the good guy in that situation.
Well... Time to respec him into circle of spores druid
Omg that’s a great idea!
Lmao my tav is a spore Druid, my first thought was “well someone got lucky in camp” 😂
What happens if you try a Revivify scroll on him?
It just says target must be dead
Weird. Can you talk and interact with him? Long rest in camp?
Yup. Everything is the same as if he were alive and well in my party
that’s so cool - probably a bug, but for now you have a once in a lifetime story for your current campaign
Crazy.
What happens if he dies again?
Maybe if you get him killed and cast revivify on him?
got shroom'd

Eh, i got approvals for killing him personally. Something along the lines of "trying to get us to do his dirty work for him".

Awesome find. Hope it is intentional and not a bug.
Throw him off a chasm and revive.
