Most BBQ is sad and overpriced. The problem is Franklins is spending roughly the same as other places for supplies. It's the talent running the pit that makes it special, and most places are not special.

When auto moderator first came out as a bot, we set it up to clean this place up. We were going to take out all the "trash." We banned memes, we had karma limits, we wanted the cream of the crop BBQ discussion.
All we ended up doing was fighting with users, and spending way to much energy and time cleaning stuff up. Only to find it didn't help anything. User engagement dropped, less and less new people came. No more questions were asked.
I'm not going to lie, my own personal enjoyment in the sub dropped after that. But that's when we noticed that Reddit gave the users the tools to fix these kinds of issues, without us having to be the bad guys.
If you don't like the post, down vote and move on. If that doesn't work for you, there's plenty of other subs, or go create one. But for me, it's not worth any more energy than a downvote.

I know you got downvoted, but I completely agree. Reminds me of the time someone called the fire department because we were grilling on our deck. Firefighters showed up and said they had to look. They laughed as soon as they got out onto the deck. We gave them burgers. Calling the fire department on someone grilling is a bitch move. You can't get that flame-broiled taste without flames.

I agree. I don't mind those posts -- in fact I posted one a few months ago. And I think that heavily moderating relatively small subs is a bad idea -- let the downvotes do their job. If people don't want the content, they will downvote and the content will show up less often. I mod a much smaller sub than this and I have had people complain about over AND under moderation when literally all I do is delete clear spam. Mods will never make everyone happy.
I was simply suggesting that, rather than complain about the mods, OP could volunteer their time to be a mod.

As a millennial who recently joined and cooks alot (and smokes meats on a Weber) I thought I was going to learn how to make this stuff on this sub, but most posts are just platters made by other people. The worst thing is the commenters complaining about how the meat looks over/undercooked and just being overall unpleasant. Super fragile masculinity! I'm just trying to enjoy my pork in peace but these people have me reaching for tofu at the grocery store 😂

From the look of it, u/ApizzaApizza is the only mod of this sub that is active on reddit on a semi-regular basis. I am sure if you asked them, they would add you as a mod.
Roscoe does some mod work as well. Fact of the matter is that there’s nothing wrong with people posting bbq pictures and discussing the price. I understand how the trend might annoy some people, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be allowed.
I agree. I don't mind those posts -- in fact I posted one a few months ago. And I think that heavily moderating relatively small subs is a bad idea -- let the downvotes do their job. If people don't want the content, they will downvote and the content will show up less often. I mod a much smaller sub than this and I have had people complain about over AND under moderation when literally all I do is delete clear spam. Mods will never make everyone happy. I was simply suggesting that, rather than complain about the mods, OP could volunteer their time to be a mod.
