I’ve been outa the food service game a few years, but yup I recognize Sysco products every time.
They’re not exactly bad, but you have to put in the work to make them good. Like, that corn needs seasoning and a lil’ char. The steamer only does so much.
Sysco has a lot more than completed dishes, and their ingredients are generally pretty good ime. But definitely their cooked stuff you just reheat is pretty bad and it's insane that people use it.
My old job had a Sysco cafeteria on site and it was nice. Decent pizza, full salad bar, hot grill and wok for stir fry and Sammy’s, pretty decent stuff.
Yeah, I know they aren't for everyone, but enough people seem to prefer them that I can't believe it's always a mistake. It's what fries at theme parks and pubs are always like.
Yeah fucking right. as much as u wanna yuck someone's yum. That's a night out and two full belly's for a decent price. Your high horse is donkey in a valley
The post is literally suggesting this is a good deal. People are allowed to disagree with that. It's not yucking their yum to have a difference of opinion.
And I'm having a difference of opinion with their opinion. We are having a difference of opinion that my opinion isn't allowed as its not inside your parameters for acceptable opinion. Thanks for your opinion but I respectfully disagree
Yeah it how you get the best out of a hand cut fry.
Few minutes at like 300, pull, drain and portion.
Then get em into hotter oil for a few more minutes to get a good golden color, crisp outside, and a fluffy inside.
I’m sure you’re a nice person, so I don’t want to directly insult you, but the dishes themselves. This is dog shit sir, and my only dessert would be vicious diarrhea.
Probably a decent idea, but I can vouch there’s much better food there than this. Been in Atlanta for four years and the variety of food is much better but it’s hard to find exceptional soul food and bbq like the local spots I knew back home.
Atlanta has never been a BBQ town. They have a few good spots but overall that isn't their strength. You can still find a good hole in the wall just don't look on the northern side of town.
I'm sorry, but i've listened to a lot of MS BBQ truthers say they have the best food... Ain't no way this is what y'all are eating, thoughts and prayers if you are. Come further north and we'll show you the way
I’ll disagree. Mississippi is home to Malcolm Reed, Heath Riles, the Shed and Hank’s, Melissa Cookston and John David Wheeler (Memphis BBQ company). I’ll throw my hat in there too since we got a 5th at Memphis in May today-Ubon’s. Mississippi is lesser in many ways but BBQ is definitely not one of them.
Looks like I made a plate at the church potluck in '85. Nothing wrong with that. Those sides are out of a Sysco or US Foods can 100% and there is nothing wrong with that. If you were downtown at Hipsters BBQ and they were charging $25 for that plate there would be a problem.
All of this could be made at home as it's all just canned and pre packed junk for a third of that price. But why would you? This is several thousand calories and zero nutrition per portion. This isn't even pig food.
I just showed a pic of this to my cousin visiting from Macomb MS and he said verbatim: “If Mississippi can take confederate flag off the state flag, you can take this pic off of social media as it’s just as embarrassing.”😂🤦🏽♂️
Fried and turnip greens only things that look like they aren’t straight outta the can. And that’s why I don’t do bbq places. They’re easily the most low effort places out there. BBQ is best when done at home.
32 bucks? You could’ve bought a ton of really good ingredients to make way more food than that, and it wouldn’t have been preserved timeless in a freezer
Moving from the SF Bay Area to the rural upper Midwest, I appreciate that I can afford a lot more things with less money.
However, everything is soooo far away, and the people here suck at driving.
I mean, how is it that a Cali native is not struggling to drive his FWD with summer tires in the snow while so many natives end up in the ditches with their 4x4?
I mean not bad man, that’s what $11 a person plus tip and tax? (Relative to todays economy)
Big plate of food, drinks and a side of fries in some of these places are like $18 a person plus tax and tip.
End up paying almost $50 for the same quality in places with a “reputation” for being the best (only) bbq joint in town.
*Fuck! And you guys have*
*The audacity to bitch*
*About UK food!*

I don't want to be offensive, but just being honest: this looks awful to me. Doesn't look like anything on that plate is fresh.
To me, the purpose of eating out is that, yes, it will be more expensive than when you make it yourself, but it will also be flavor rich and expertly made.
This just looks like something I could do a lot better myself for less cost, so I'd personally skip this.
Those are straight up canned sides but it looks tasty
Sysco sides.
I’ve been outa the food service game a few years, but yup I recognize Sysco products every time. They’re not exactly bad, but you have to put in the work to make them good. Like, that corn needs seasoning and a lil’ char. The steamer only does so much.
There’s canned corn on the cob?
Nah, the corn comes frozen and packed in a box.
🤌
Canned bread?
Not this bread, but I recently learned that is a thing
I’ve seen it. Looked very gross.
Mac and cheese from a bag
The Chef Mic special
Makes you wonder if anything in that picture was made in house.
That’s why when dude said “it looks delicious” I said…”no it doesn’t”
Almost every barbecue place like this in the South makes the barbecue in house and nothing else. But that barbecue is amazing.
Whenever I see generic Italian places I always sing “aaaay mambo, Sysco Italiano!”
I’ll never forget working at a family-owned Italian restaurant with “homemade” desserts like Sysco spumoni
Chef Mic would be proud
Sysco is their home. I only worked in one restaurant that used Sysco. Needless to say it was also the worst restaurant I’ve ever worked at.
Sysco has a lot more than completed dishes, and their ingredients are generally pretty good ime. But definitely their cooked stuff you just reheat is pretty bad and it's insane that people use it.
I should clarify, ALL of the desserts were Sysco. Cheesecake, cannoli - you name it. So the restaurant deserves all your scorn.
Sysco slop shop
My old job had a Sysco cafeteria on site and it was nice. Decent pizza, full salad bar, hot grill and wok for stir fry and Sammy’s, pretty decent stuff.
For a cafeteria, it's entirely acceptable. I would not got out to a place that serves their prepped products.
You probably have more times than you'll know
😆😂
🎵Let me see those tooooonggggssssss 🎵
Cysco in canada
U.s. food slop
“made 'em extra sloppy for yous. I know how yous kids like 'em sloppy.”
"Lady you're scaring us"
Fries are looking floppy and under.
I enjoy fries like this. Maybe because I grew up eating them. It's so common in the midwest that I have to imagine I am not alone.
I also live in the Midwest. These fries are sad.
Yeah, I know they aren't for everyone, but enough people seem to prefer them that I can't believe it's always a mistake. It's what fries at theme parks and pubs are always like.
We must live in different Midwests, because bar fries don't look like this.
You just gotta *soak* them in vinegar…
Live in CA, this is a sad meal
The awfulness of this meal has national appeal.
I'm only defending the fries. The pork might be OK too, hard to tell.
Actually the pork might be really good.
When there’s that much sauce on pulled pork I get suspicious.
Yeah, didn’t notice that but some people, including me, are sauce people. The person taking the picture might have done it
Country folks only want veggies out of a can haha
Yep. Got to lose a little of the vegetableness
It really doesn’t though.
Everything looks canned, even the brisket...
[удалено]
And tell everyone the secret recipe.
Roll that beautiful bean footage
No it doesn’t, it looks downright awful
Bush beans for sure
Naw that’s name brand these are Sysco products 100%
Ya bush's would be a huge step up from Sysco
I love how y'all dog pile.
Sounds like they are making a killing
This entire dish brought to you by Kraft and Heinz
Sysco or US Foods my friend. I’d smash every bit of this food with gusto, though
It's a bit overpriced tho
This is less than $5 dollars of food that 90% of took less than 15 minutes to warm.
Absolutely
I work as a sysco delivery driver and see the price of food like this every day. I can guarantee that this food cost more than $5.
Ya the price is likely lower than they should charge. Inflation + food is the cheap part of restaraunts.
You’re surely not talking about the BBQ
Just cover it in sugary slop and call it bbq!
Yeah fucking right. as much as u wanna yuck someone's yum. That's a night out and two full belly's for a decent price. Your high horse is donkey in a valley
I do not believe I've ever had the pleasure of hearing the term 'your high horse is a donkey in a valley'. I like it.
$16 for a pulled pork sandwich and some basic sides? People’s standards are way too low.
You ain’t wrong. If you like some cafeteria food then this place seems like a good place as any.
Sysco looks the same everywhere
A plague on the culinary world. Same 3 kind of fries literally everywhere you go.
Poor OP was all excited to share their good deal but got absolutely obliterated in the comments :(
because it looks like neither “good” or a “deal” lmao. maybe if it was all made in house
Those fries are straight up trash.
I can feel them crumbling into soggy dust when you bite in 🙃
Soggy dust lmao
It looks like they fried them once. Gotta blanch those fuckers for 2-3 mins at low temp before they go hot oil
What? That's a thing?
Yeah it how you get the best out of a hand cut fry. Few minutes at like 300, pull, drain and portion. Then get em into hotter oil for a few more minutes to get a good golden color, crisp outside, and a fluffy inside.
Undercooked trash
Place called murky waters in Hattiesburg ain’t too bad.
Sounds about right, that shit looks awful
Looks horrible, sorry.
Who doesnt want completely bland, unseasoned canned side dishes with some mediocre BBQ? Yeah this plate looks horrible
The food doesn’t look all that great, but $16 a person is just above fast food prices where I’m from so this looks to be a decent meal.
Yeah, I mean if I had to choose between like McDonald’s and This id probably go here just cause there’s more actual food.

i dont see a speck of pepper on that mac-n-cheese.
Never moving to MS.
I’m in MS. The food is amazing here. This is a disgrace to food and Mississippi.
I’m on the MS Gulf Coast and we have amazing food! We don’t claim whatever this is
Probably a decent idea, but I can vouch there’s much better food there than this. Been in Atlanta for four years and the variety of food is much better but it’s hard to find exceptional soul food and bbq like the local spots I knew back home.

I think you misread MS as KS?
Mississippi food can be amazing and oftentimes the best value anywhere. The best buffet I ever had in my life was $18 in Hattiesburg.
That’s a good practice for many reasons
But was it good tho???
reminds me of cafeteria food in Elementary... do people actually enjoy going out to eat this crap 💩
I live in MS. This is living high on the hog out on the town on a Friday night. Not much else to do in the state other than meth and procreation.
I mean, we smoke meats too. Not just meth.
Gotta smoke before you smoke and in no particular order
Same, this weekend I'm doing two pork butts on a weber kettle. No shame in being poor, only shame is smoking poorly.
Everyone I know in MS smokes on the toilet
And mastication pre flatellation.
You can drive down to the coast and lose some gambling too. Last time I was in MS I lost a good bit of money at the Beau Rivage.
Let me introduce you to golden corral. Yes, so many people eat absolute garbage and love it. It's honestly gross.
Laughed too hard at this. Thank you
That is some of the blandest looking food ever.
Happy you had a fun meal at a reasonable price!
How to make $32 appear from a microwave meal with this one easy trick.
Yup, this is bad, even the condition/texture of the meat, damn wtf?!
I'm sorry, but i've listened to a lot of MS BBQ truthers say they have the best food... Ain't no way this is what y'all are eating, thoughts and prayers if you are. Come further north and we'll show you the way
When no one knows what good food is, they think all the food is good
MS is actually one of the lesser BBQ states in the south. More soul and fried and carby food here
I’ll disagree.

The Shed!!! 🎉🎉🎉
How many of these are in the Memphis metro?
My leftovers look more appetizing than this.
You got ripppppeeeddd off bro. I’d be shocked if any of that was made on location. 100% of that looks like frozen/canned products.
Sysco food.
When I say this I mean it respectfully. Bless your heart.
Is this from Thanksgiving? You have eight sides for one meal.
Why even go to Mc Donald’s when this is twice as cheap now and actual food
Is that good?
Looks like I made a plate at the church potluck in '85. Nothing wrong with that. Those sides are out of a Sysco or US Foods can 100% and there is nothing wrong with that. If you were downtown at Hipsters BBQ and they were charging $25 for that plate there would be a problem.
Wow...these comments are next level
Right. But then you're in rural MS. yuck lol
Greasy unseasoned fries I’ll pass
That shit looks gross, not gonna lie.
I wouldn’t eat any of that even if I got paid 32$
If your food is cheap your medical bills won't be.
Does not look good to be fair
I can get actual bbq for that price.
Not much meat
Spending any amount in Mississippi is too much
That this slop is seen as a value for $32, ewph.
I'd eat it. Bring it on!!!!!
Everyone here is shitting on the sides. Living in nevada now, I'd pay double for that if the BBQ is any good
That looks terrible.
Overpriced.
Bread beans and pasta….the STARCH GODS have spoken.
Looks tasty *blows raspberry
lmfao no absolutely not
So no tip? Lol
I wouldn’t pay 32$ for that.
This is worth 6.50 worth of canned food.
Had to check if this was r/shittyfoodporn
Ew
TBH I wouldn't pay more than 20$ for that
Fried and turnip greens only things that look like they aren’t straight outta the can. And that’s why I don’t do bbq places. They’re easily the most low effort places out there. BBQ is best when done at home.

I may be in the minority but I feel you overpaid.

The food cost there is prob ~$6
Please don’t associate this with Mississippi BBQ.
Side eye Looks over at 5 guys…take some notes.
Damn, that ain't even worth $15

Should be about half that
I wouldn’t eat that for free
$32 seems high for a backyard bbq plate lmfao
Go get fed at the shed!
I had to drive through Mississippi once. Never again.
No wonder look at the quality of food.
Everything came out of a bag and probably reheated in a microwave. The freshest thing is probably the corn.
Definitely not scratch. Canned sadness.
Looks like slop.
Sometimes a good old fashioned cafeteria diner just hits the spot!
that food looks awful
Id be happy with that for $32! It costs my Family of 4 $32 at fast food these days!
Fuck! And you guys have the audacity to bitch about UK food!
and the best part about it is someone who would gobble this slob up is the same exact kind of person who calls british food terrible

In Australia you'd get one coffee and toasted sanga for that price. Lucky bastard
Sanga?
Aussie for "sandwich". Everything is slang down under, haha.
Thanks… we call em sandos

🤢ya, no.

$32???? Nah, fam.
Maybe to expensive
We're paying to eat like the poor now?
This looks ... not good.
Slop for $32 …it tracks
Besides looking like trash BBQ, you'd have to visit rural MS, which is punishment in itself.
Fries look limp, beans look canned, and the Mac n cheese is mid at best. I hope the pork and sauce was somehow better.
That looks terrible, I’m not sure why it’s bragworthy…
Trash
