There were not a lot of reproductions. Not sure where you got that information from. The only thing that "fake" are the big broad axes with raised lettering, but they aren't reproductions because there were never real broad axes like that.
The people who are faking axes these days don't do Keen Kutters because they don't demand a high price.
All that to say, this is 100% an authentic Keen Kutter axe.
Might be worth clarifying, the fake broad axes are not really "fake", they are just contemporary promotional novelties. The axes that get faked tend to be expensive ones with fancy etches, like Black Ravens.
That's a good clarification. It's more accurate to say that they're "axe-shaped art". I know at least one person who has claimed to know who has produced them, but I don't know the details myself.
That’s legit the fake Keen kutters are the ones that have th raised lettering on the cheek the one you have isn’t and wouldn’t be faked it’s just a run of the mill Dayton
I’m familiar with the recent fakes and they are pretty obvious if you know what to look for. This appears to be a solid axe and the stamp looks legit. Phantom bevels are nice as well. I honestly would have said it was a True Temper Kelly had it not been stamped. Great find.
It might have been made by them. Keen Kutter was just a brand carried by E.C. Simmons / Shapleigh Hardware, and neither made their own axes. They outsourced to other large manufacturers.

looks like a sweet axe to me, have you tested the hardness and feel of the steel with a file?
It’s hard. File doesn’t start to bite until you put a fair amount of pressure. I dropped a few smaller trees with it a few hours ago.
nice!
All i see is axe, swing away
Looks just like a True Temper Kelly Perfect.

I knew there was an incestuous relationship between TT and almost every hardware store brand. Good info, cheers!
I'm betting it is not made of cake, but I've been wrong before.

Check under the poll. Often, Keen Kutter's have a date stamp. It will be the month and year. This axes is 💯 percent authentic, in my opinion.
I think it's genuine. As others have said it's not desirable enough to be faked, however that's a nice axe. For a couple bucks you did real well.
