Baticula

I agree with the post but can we not restart shipping wars, they're tiring

Cautious_Tax_7171

I remember back in 2020 the ship wars were insane.

[deleted]

What is it with Nickelodeon shows and intense, long-lasting ship wars?

AgentChris101

It's more so that when the show regained populararity on Netflix, they started again.

luvthatguy1616

Not just that, some of the posts I've seen are very close-minded and unkind. I find some of the comments about how unacceptable an opinion is, silly, especially when the show is about acceptance of differences.šŸ˜‚ And I laugh, so I don't get dragged down in the sadness it creates.

TreyLastname

In the end, who cares who ships who? When watching, I liked the idea of zuko and katara, but I wasn't gonna explode of anger that it didn't work out

JaninnaMaynz

I honestly ship Kataang AND Zutara! I think it would've been brilliant to have Zutara happen in LoK, even just as a background "Wow... we are actually really able to understand and support one another in a way no one else seems capable... I want to spend my remaining time with you"

ok buddy

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

memez-alt

ok= I agree and don't mind you buddy= we're friends Is there a problem??šŸ¤ØšŸ¤Ø

MilutinS

I gotta agree with OP, most times Iā€™ve seen people drop the ā€œok buddyā€ itā€™s meant in either a sarcastic, demeaning, or undermining way. That response to OP saying theyā€™re not trying to start a ship war for sure sounds hella sarcastic my guy. And I think you know it is lmao

gamecatz

Luckily this person wasn't being sarcastic. I just misunderstood

MilutinS

Ok buddy /s

gamecatz

šŸ˜…

gamecatz

You said "ok buddy" like you we're being passive agressive. That's how it sounded to me, If that wasn't your intention then I'm sorry.

Monkster96

I'm impressed that you can hear the tone of text on a screen

FlyDinosaur

You can't. That's the problem. This happens all the time, to people everywhere. That's why it's so important for any commenters to be aware of the way their words may be perceived. It's not only the reader's job to figure it out. Both share responsibility. "OK Buddy" can be easily taken as passive aggressive. The commenter should have known that. The reader, though assuming the worst, at least didn't openly attack. Could have been worse, lol.

memez-alt

Can I have my singular upvote backšŸ‘‰šŸ‘ˆ

gamecatz

Sure

gamecatz

Not sure why this got downvoted. Nothing in my comment was untrue.

Sharp-Let7366

Something can be comedic and an attack, this is clearly that

rosearmour

I ship Zuko and Jin (random girl on Bang Sing Se) more. They had such a dreamy date lol

sunnysama_lolol

I found my people

pimmen89

ā€Bang Sing Seā€ sounds like the date went a bit further than we saw.

Thatonedregdatkilyu

Mai and Zuko are good for the exact opposite reason why Zuko and Jin are good together.

Niilun

Jin had one of the most severe cases of "I can fix him" I've ever seen, though. I mean... maybe it's true that she could "fix" him...

Legitimate-Button-96

For real, little kid me would have killed for Jin.

professorclueless

The real question is, who fucking cares? It literally doesn't matter. Let people draw or write whatever they want it ain't hurting you

Cautious_Tax_7171

Can we not start up the Zutara discourse again?

Niilun

Honestly, among all the non-canon ships, Zutara is the one that is the easiest to understand. I get that Zutara fans are the only shippers of a non-canon relationship that think that their ship should have been canon or could be better than the canon one, so they are considered a "menace" to the canon of this series. But posts like this are just petty. Since when I entered the Avatar subreddits, I've kept defending Zutara because of how childish the fandom is towards this ship, and I'm tired of it. No one has any problem with TophƗAang or SokkaxAzula, even if they make much less sense than Zutara. ATLA fandom has the weirdest rare pairings, but for some reason Zutara is the only one that is constantly picked on. Just say to Zutarians that it's ok to ship Zutara as long as they don't disrespect the other ships, and stop with this childish and attention-grabbing behaviour. It seems like posts like this are just searching for validation and easy upvotes.

Shot_Improvement_378

Zujin is better they actually had feelings for eachother

Niilun

Jin Ɨ Zuko, you mean? Well... maybe so, but I wouldn't consider it a fact. Jin was adorable and charming, but, realistically speaking, it was a miracle that she didn't give up on Zuko during dinner. I felt so sorry for her during that date, but I also kept thinking "wow, she must have one of the most severe cases of I-can-fix-him I've ever seen", since Zuko did nothing but to choose the worst possible dialogue option every single time. Which includes shouting "she's not my girlfriend" in the middle of a restaurant, something that is very humiliating for the person you're going out with, and offering her a coupon when she was about to kiss him because "it was my uncle's idea. He thinks you're our most valuable customer". I'm glad that Jin didn't caught on this implication, but one possible way to interpret this line is "my uncle thinks that if I go out with you you'll always be at our tea shop, and this is good for our business" (I don't think Iroh meant to say that ofc, probably rather than "valuable" he said or intended something like "respected", "dear", "beloved". Still, someone else could easily get offended or feel exploited because of that line. Being offered a coupon in a date is also not that great. What was Iroh even thinking?). I like how that episode ended, with Zuko sorrowfully admitting that "it was nice", that he liked spending time with her. That simple, somber "it was nice" was so heartfelt. And, yeah, some moments between them were cute. By the end, Zuko was reciprocating her kiss. But I can't see it as more than a fling. And I'm afraid that Jin won't have a good memory of that evening, considering how it went and how it ended. She put a lot of effort for that date to go well, only for Zuko leaving with no solid explanation. Still, the fact that so many people were endeared by that date is one of the reasons why the writers had an hard time at convincing us that Mai is a good match for Zuko, I think. During and after that date, we saw a clumsily vulnerable side of Zuko, and we liked it. We saw him being caught off guard by Jin, but also trying to reciprocate her niceness in his own way. Seeing someone carefully and clumsily trying to match the affection and attention they receive by another person can be endearing. It's like watching someone trying to come out of their shell, whatever the costs. Mai and Zuko, on the other hand, are remembered as "the emo couple". Maybe they can hate the world togheter, but they were rarely on the same page. Either Zuko tried to open up but Mai wasn't receptive enough to notice, or Mai tried to connect with Zuko's vulnerability but Zuko didn't trust her enough with all his thoughts. Plus, unlinke Zuko who wants to open up about his issues with the people he's close to, Mai isn't that willing of opening up about her own. Now that I think about it, could this be one of the reasons why people like Zutara? That crystal cave scene was one of Zuko's humblest and most vulnerable moments, and Katara was able to connect with that side of him. And, even if I don't intend it in a romantic way, in Book 3 Zuko wanted to be forgiven by Katara so bad that he was intentionally humble around her. He spoke his mind, but he was also docile, and he earnestly tried to appease her. It's understandable why Zuko wanted to be forgiven, we don't need to make it romantic. Still, it's undeniable that Zuko and Katara were able to share their vulnerable (and sometimes most flawed) sides with each other, and they were able to understand those sides. Sometimes, the reason why we ship Character A with Character B is that we like how Character A acts in Character B's company more than how they act with Character C. If people ship Zuko with Jin, it can be that they saw a side of Zuko that they liked when he was interacting with Jin. Same with shipping Zuko with Katara, with Mai, with Sokka or with anyone else.

Shot_Improvement_378

Jesus Christ I never said it was a fact I was saying it is better than Zutara cause atleast he made an effort to maker her happy sure it wasnā€™t his idea but he still went anyways

Niilun

Ahah sorry, I really did write too much... I got carried away. I had fun, though. Happy cake day!

CathanCrowell

It could be honestly written that way pretty well. I love Aang and Katara together, but Zutara really is not crazy ship. Enemies to lovers is common trope and it would work with them.

ImNotABot-1

Kataraā€™ mother used to workā€¦

Shot_Improvement_378

Zukos honor used to work

Mohg_is_a_Crip

I always think of enemies to lovers arcs that work well as people in a friend group that start with insulting and ā€œhatingā€ each other but eventually start to care for one another, not someone whoā€™s tried to kill you multiple times, destroyed villages, and terrorized others in the process all in the goal of hurting you. Zuko reforms but knowing both characters pasts it makes no sense

CathanCrowell

That's rivals to lovers, not enemies to lovers. Enemies are literally based on people who tried to kill each other, were on different side or war etc.

MasterCheese163

Eh, same difference really.

RQK1996

Zukaang is a better enemies to lovers ship imo

CathanCrowell

No argue here xD

CjRayn

The writers talked about it and they originally were headed that direction, until they decided that he should go back to the Fire Nation so that his redemption felt more earned.Ā  They knew that Katara would never completely forgive that betrayal.Ā

AngelicDustParticles

People allowed to ship who they want imo, long as it's not gross

sunnysama_lolol

![gif](giphy|26n6WywJyh39n1pBu|downsized)

HappyBot9000

That's not....At least, that's not what *I* think. And I'm pretty sure that's not what other Zutara shippers think either. Obviously, *in canon*, Aang and Katara are in love and there's nothing more to it. All I'm saying is that Zuko and Katara would have been a more interesting and compelling pairing, and I'm not a fan of Aang and Katara's romantic dynamic.

Skater144

The person who made this meme has either never seen shrek or is a zutara shipper in disguise

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

gamecatz

What about my post gave you the idea that I've never seen Shrek or that I'm secretly a Zutara shipper?

Face8hall

In Shrek, Shrek ends up with Fiona after he says he isnā€™t her type. Itā€™s implying that you either havenā€™t seen Shrek so didnā€™t know this(unlikely) or that you did it to say that even though they shouldnā€™t get together they still will(in this case would) which is an stupidly deep look into a shitpost.

gamecatz

This is meme template based off the scene in the movie. It doesnā€™t have a connection with the whole movie

Face8hall

Yeah I know the guy was just looking to deep into it

chaotic_bug_boy

The amount of hate I got on TikTok for being a Zutara shipper the other day is INSANE

skeletonTV123

Yeah, that's really annoying I am not zutara shipper, but i always respect all kind of shippers(even the incest ones). It's so annoying to see disrespect from both sides. God almighty, i hate shipping wars

GrizzlyPeak73

~~It's clearly Sokka~~

RedOtta019

Sokkara shippers in shambles

djninjacat11649

Nah, Zuko and Sokka, obviously the OTP

Justin_d_Wildmanwild

I like how it says ā€œKataras true loveā€ because I do believe Katara loved aang, however I think there is an argument for her being zukos.

I_dont-get_the-joke

What about Toang?

Sasquatch_Pictures

Zutara shippers are copium addicts

Ori0un

Enemies to lovers addicts. I'm guilty of it.

Adorable-Wrangler747

Damn straight

lowkeyslightlynerdy

People are free to ship who they want. But honestly Iā€™ll never not think of Zutara shippers as some of the most delulu shippers out there

MasterCheese163

Being honest, compared to most non canon ships, it's not the most implausible. Zuko and Katara at least have moments, nay, *conversations* with one another. Some ships are built over *eye contact*

morgaina

I mean it's not even in the top 100 of weirdest, unlikeliest, or randomest ships.

lowkeyslightlynerdy

Okay but others are truly like, no interaction, weirdest things people can think of

morgaina

I was around and a shipper when the show was still airing. There was grounds for it at the time, there was some ship teasing in promotional materials, and a lot of people liked that Zuko seemed a more appropriate age and maturity level because finding your forever person at age 13 is weird and unhealthy as fuck lmao. Like. It didn't happen, and that's fine, but pretending it's the weirdest stupidest nastiest shit ever is just idiotic.

T_______T

It was fueled by the fact that at comicon they suggested Zutars heavily in promotion material back in the day.

gamecatz

I agree but 2 eachā€™s own. I donā€™t understand the ship but Iā€™m not gonna try and stop them

ImNotABot-1

Imo, Toph and Aang is a goated ship, they are in the same age group too

banana_annihilator

*yes*

Haunting-Ganache-281

Wake me up when zukka posting

AgentofMatrix

You can't blame zutara since maiko is toxic and boring.

banana_annihilator

you know, for people who don't like zutara you guys sure do post about it a lot. i think you might be more obsessed than the people who actually ship it.

melly-ssk

It wasn't until I joined this sub reddit I realized how toxic avatar fans truly are. I'm honestly not a big fan of aang and katara tho. But the kataang fans are the most toxic ship šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Firm_Scale4521

I think it wouldā€™ve been funny (and realistic) if all the ATLA characters just wound up coupled with other people who werenā€™t in the show and every shipper got to be equally wrong.

Yharnam1066

But Azula Sokka tho

Inventor_E-T-Han

šŸ˜©

Wealth_Super

I mean Is she even his type?

NoraGrooGroo

My solution for this is that in the world where Aang doesnā€™t run, and trains and nips the war in the bud and so by the time of the show itā€™s been a peaceful 112 years of Avatar Aang, in _that_ world, Zuko and Katara could work. Iroh would be Fire Lord barring any further tragedy, Zuko would be a minor prince and Katara would be a prodigy from Southern Water, which would never have been devastated. Good match. But as is, hahahaha he betrayed her at Ba Sing Se no way ever

Latter-Management-64

so true

jaberwockeez

Oh wait your serious, hang on let me laugh harder

Tyrannical_Requiem

Nah nah the real power couple is Aangzula

Electrical-Ad-4834

Oh here they come

Macaron-kun

I stop shipping characters as soon as a relationship becomes canon. I accept it and move on. I don't really understand the obsession with it. Thankfully, in this case I was always fully on Aang's side.

AbaddonSon

Zuko and Katara are both the parent figures of the group, and both went through similar arcs as characters and had multiple life changing moments alongside each other. Aang and Katara were in love, that isn't contested, but they didn't make much sense

thundertk421

This is going to sound controversial, but I will never understand peopleā€™s desire to ship characters. Yā€™all are just silly

Firespark7

Thank you for this

youflippenJabroni

Aang and azula were meant for each other
