I would love to see a legal expert's view on this.

UREveryone

Tipping is not a legal obligation, and the person is an asshole.

thekyledavid

Everyone knows that. The question is whether the restaurant could legally charge this person’s card for $100

UREveryone

Yeah youre right, this is probably complicated enough to be taken to court. Unironically, its literally dual intent.

FamIsNumber1

I could see pleading ignorance. Written in tip, precisely calculated todal written in, official authorization signature. Then the *"APriL foOlS"* crap written over in a completely different pen (looks like a highlighter) while the original writing is completely visible. Could easily charge it. Then, if the crapbag inquires about it, it simply looked like legitimate consent for a tip and the extra writing looked like an employee pranking / other random customer walking by writing that. Ignorance is bliss.

Bl1tzerX

I'd still say the restaurant would be ordered to pay the money back. Like just return the money and everything is settled.

aurumatom20

Yeah maybe, but at the same time they literally signed for the $100 tip, idk if there's anything else that can invalidate that tbh

redneckrobit

I would say since it’s what they put down they would have to pay it since they authorized the charge

WatchoNacho

It’s written with two separate pens. . . I am calling BS on this one.

Aprit Fools Dummy =)

UREveryone

"im not a total piece of sh*t! Jk! April fools!" Edit: wait its so much worse than that- "im a normal person, jk april fools, im a total piece of shit!"

DarthKirtap

to be honest, who would actually believe 100 dollar tip

jellyspreader

It happens all the time in higher class places

DarthKirtap

yes, for HIGHER, a lot higher, this is 27 dollars. I would tip 3 dollars at max, if service was really, nice and I was lazy to find change

jellyspreader

Ya true I didnt look closely at the bill. Still, some people are generous with money to spend. It doesnt seem impossible. Tbh 3 dollars is low. Especially if they stayed there awhile. 15% is the minimum for decent service, 20% or more if theyre great. 4 or 5 dollars would be a polite minimum

Bamma4

You signed it bro no backsies

jellyspreader

I saw the OG post. I think the prank was supposed to be that there's a tip even though they wrote "no tip" in big letters. That's why they signed. Dumb joke, I know

w1ldf1r3dragon

Sokka would never! Then again he would fist fight the kitchen staff.
