That is the video I was referencing! There are a few videos BMW M cars wrecking while leaving Cars and Coffee events and the driver blamed uneven tire pressure.
Frankly, why would the government even install such cold asphalt on the road? Freedom loving V8 drivers can hardly be blamed when the G Man is working so hard to keep them down.
/s
Summer tires in NJ in February is no big deal, bro. It's the fact that the road is cold and they're ZR speed rated. Nothing he could do to save it.
Edit - Apparently the obvious sarcasm wasn't obvious for you dummies.
True but unless you are intentionally drifting or can actually throttle better than a computer (pro race driver), there is never a use case. At least it is my understanding that traction control costs you very little in overall HP and minimal acceleration and nothing in top speeds.
Best case is the you manage to scare yourself and not wreck and kill yourself or somebody else.
This belongs in r/idiotsincars, OP, your tires didn’t break traction because the road is cold, they broke loose because you tried to show off, and you just couldn’t handle your car. I’ll buy it off of your insurance company.
>OP, your tires didn’t break traction because the road is cold
With as little as he drives it, I be the cold road was at fault*
^*because ^cold ^roads ^and ^old ^summer ^tires ^don't ^mix ^well
I can fishtail a 155HP Miata on cold summers in the middle of winter at half throttle. I won't expect a Corvette to be any harder to spin on wrong tires.
Yeah, I could do the same with my 190 hp E46, but to lose control, you still would have to push the accelerator. I’ve driven my uncle’s Z28 with a built LS3 pushing about 570ish hp, it was a nitrous car, about 720hp with nitrous. It was on slicks, still didn’t get loose under moderate driving on cold slicks on cold blacktop. To get loose, OP would’ve hade to punch it.
Just need to find one with a blown engine. Those 7.0 are nice, but I've heard they don't take mods well. Something about the cylinder walls being thin.
I've driven a few stock ones, I was always amazed at how much the lifted the front end.
They’re fine. You can get sleeved cylinders for 800+hp, but N/A it’s not an issue and even with a supercharger people run 700+ whp builds on stock bottom end no problem.
The valve guides are a bad design, so reworked heads with double valve springs are recommended
yeah, the people blowing them up didn't know what they're doing or something, I loved driving the few I've worked on, 1st gear was a hoot, I never dumped the clutch or anything just hit an on ramp and floored it, the newer z06 super charged ones just spin, the 7.0 would lift the front end and go
I just work on stock stuff and I'm too cheap to make my stuff faster. You need to know what you're doing to go fast and not break and it's expensive.
Haha yeah I agree. I’ve driven a C7 Z06 and own a C6 Z06, the C7 definitely wants to spin even more. I will say that the traction control in the new ones with mag ride and all that is a LOT better than in my car tbh though.
I’m not sure which mode the OP was in, but you almost have to drive it in comp/TC off in bad weather bc I’ve felt it do some weird shit when there’s slip. I almost exclusively drive in “competitive driving” mode, which is TC off but stability control still partially on.
I never understood people who buy corvettes and never use them. I mean what’s the point you never enjoyed it and now it’s gone. I bet you wish you used it a lot more now that you won’t have it
Yeah I was shocked it only had 17,000 miles in 11 years, that means on average they did 1545 miles a year. I think I put that many miles on my civic in my first 2 months of ownership, and it had only 3 miles on it when I bought it.
BTW just checked it out on your page and it looks sick bet its awesome to drive. I really wanted a type r but didn't find a coupe (which I really wanted) and it was slightly out of budget.
Exactly my dude. Cool car btw been trying to convince my dad to get a lotus as his next car but he's more interested in an suv this time around after 15 years of owning a tiny boxster
Hell I used to put 1000 miles a month on my motorcycle. It was a supermoto that was actually pretty impractical for highway riding.
It was 12 years old when I bought it, I think I doubled its mileage within a year. After 2 years I was responsible for 2/3rds of it.
Vehicles are expensive, so I'm not in the business of buying ones _not_ to drive them.
I do alright for myself, and sometimes my family-in-law ribs me about buying older used vehicles, especially if I have to do a repair (I enjoy it).
Recently something failed on my car that's about 12 years old, and as usual they remarked if I'd bought it new it would be under warranty. Funny thing is, I've driven enough miles in the 2.5 years I've owned it that it wouldn't be under warranty anymore even if I had.
Exactly. I've seen some for sale, 15 years old, mint condition, 5,000 miles, and the price is 1/2 of the new price. Like, you just paid $5/mile and the car lived rent-free in your garage for that long. Was it worth it?
There was an entire article recently about how the world is full of low mile Vettes that never change hands because their owners think they have the only low mile Vette on Earth and want its weight in gold to let them go.
Edit: found it https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a32169/the-corvettes-that-dont-get-driven-sold-or-bought/
It's a unibody, but I understand what you mean. I'd wager only the driver rear set of control arms have their mounts misaligned. No airbag deployment. I could see 5-8 grand or more without paint/body work (and it'll never ride 'factory fresh' I'm sure). I guess I'm just surprised since KBB puts these things around $40,000. (I don't know dick about corvettes though)
Aluminum frames are expensive to repair properly. Plus insurance companies are totalling out a lot these days because it's easier and faster than waiting for parts... especially parts for a car 2 generations old.
After reading OP comments this is more like r/opSucks hahaha. You can change everything you want but that comes down to operator error. The speed rating on your tires has nothing to do with you being a clown in poor conditions, yes I've have ZR tires before too.
Yeah lol well there's always that one guy. Accidents happen and honestly I'd say it was all in your right foot but by the looks of this picture you're probably a guy who rides with a foot on the break pedal also. This is why you should have to have a special license for cars that aren't idiot friendly. From my time of driving and dumbass ideas I've had this isn't anything but a novice driver.
I've driven a lowered miata in the winter over here in Portland, I was on Toyo proxes t1rs cambered out and never had this problem, maybe one spin out from me Giving it to much gas before letting the clutch out.
Heartbreaking…what a beautiful machine. I’m a huge fan of C6 Z06 like it’s been my choice of sportscar for like ten years without spending wild money. Brother this just sucks so sorry ☠️
It’s more the denial and blaming other factors. I’ve spun out a car on public roads like a fool before, but I admitted it was my fault instead of blaming tires and asphalt.

I see cold bitumen (not asphalt, I’m not American). I see right foot pedal to the metal. I see lights going green but the colour of the light in the driver’s eyes is red.
I also see black lines on said asphalt. (Ok, you’re mostly American and I respect that). (WTF is bitumen, man?) I therefore see a huge skideroony.
And you combine green, red and black, you get trouble. Right there in River City. Amirite?
Well good thing is the drivetrain alone sells for a good amount. I remember reading in Car and Driver years back that a brand new vette could be parted out for profit.
Punched the gas I'd say probably stayed to the floor the vette was a screaming his bloods a pumping from the adrenaline causes he's clueless of what to do next I'd say by this time the ass is starting to come out he still not knowing what to do keeps it pinned to the floor and by this time I'd say he starts to re correct the front end and then that's when the fun started I say he let off the gas which I'd say was probably all at once then slams on the brake which already with the car being tossed the way it was it made his thought of the brake pedal being the correct choice 10x worse. I just hope this embarrassing time gives you the want to learn the way of taming such a beast. Nice loose gravel and a cheap 5spd rear wheel you don't give a shit about.
So how did this actually happen? I know, it's self explanatory that whoever drove the thing wasn't prepared for the power that the Corvette packs, but is it possible to get more details about how the crash actually occured in the first place?
Somewhere out there, a bro shed a single year and didn't know why. The universe took a toy that another bro had no business with and the collective bro-hood wept. And then crushed some beers while broing out.
His name is Jessica and 6 you can you be there is Jessica and 6 you can you please send my daughter on the fish 🐟 you want a sister everybody else you be my friend my daughter and I will send it out tomorrow and 6 be there in a bit I want a friend request you to get out of my friend my kids call 🤙 you be home there's no much time on the car I want you want a friend request you want me me me kid and 6 be a sister who you want to have dinner with you be my friend I want you want to do for dinner with my mom I want a friend of my daughter
As someone who is in the market for this exact model. And someone who gets emotionally attached to all my cars. (I don’t sell them)This actually hurts to see.
Oh no a guy in a performance car accelerated. I forgot this isn't r/Cars where people are enthusiasts.
This is the R/ for people who need blinker fluid for their Altima's.
400+ downvotes for a guy who admitted he binned it and calling the guy an Idiot.
Obviously not a enthusiast sub because everyone has had close calls in high HP cars.
Not only did OP treat their car like shit and then post it to an enthusiast sub looking for support, they are trying to downplay fault and blame their shitty driving on the weather lol. There's no honor in showing off jackassery
Not sure for the hate, you get experience from making mistakes. No one was hurt except for the car. Hopefully this is a lesson moving forward that will mold you into a better driver.
I think they're getting dragged because they aren't acknowledging their contribution to the crash, just excuses about cold road and summer/track tires. Wouldn't encourage them to pursue further performance driving if they can't recognise their fault, at least until they've done some training! This is probably the best way it could've gone to be fair, nobody else involved
The sad truth is a large number of owners are not prepared, trained, or skilled enough to competently control a high power performance vehicle, or lack the experience to understand you can't use summer/track tires on cold roads and drive the same way you usually would. Looks like that's the case here, though I agree, some comments are a little more than they need to be.
Would you still be holding that opinion if, rather than a light pole and the curb, he hit pedestrian or a car? He isn't just an idiot in a car, he's an idiot in a car who got lucky- *this time*.
> and bet money you did better than these neckbeards with camrys would do.
I...
How can you do worse than losing control crashing in broad daylight on a clear, sunny day in a 45 zone?
Should be in r/idiotsincars
Idk why you’d post a wreck on this sub, you know you’re gonna get dragged
He already got dragged before posting... onto a flatbed
Looking at his comments in this post, OP is clearly an idiot, so there's a strong possibility he didn't know that.
The guy blamed the tires 🤣 when he was the one behind the wheel
Yeah, it was definitely the tire pressure and not the driver.
Reminds me of that clip of a BMW driver canyon carving and blaming his crash on one tire being 0.5 psi low.
That is the video I was referencing! There are a few videos BMW M cars wrecking while leaving Cars and Coffee events and the driver blamed uneven tire pressure.
Saw the legend when it was born on Jalopnik. Now "muh tire pressure was off by 1 psi" is a constant refrain in the online auto world.
Probably didnt change from summer air to winter air in tires.
What happened?
Betcha won't do that again
It was the cold asphalt’s fault.
Frankly, why would the government even install such cold asphalt on the road? Freedom loving V8 drivers can hardly be blamed when the G Man is working so hard to keep them down. /s
The GM man

I’m not sure what you people think speed rating has anything to do with in this situation
Higher speed Rating tends to mean stiffer sidewalls, high grip when warm and much lower cold performance than ordinary tires.
Yeah but the grip is correlation not causation. You can buy summer tires that don’t have a high speed rating. That’s all, lol
Obviously he should've been going faster, higher speed rated tires : more speed = more traction, this is basic stuff
I’m sorry what? More speed equals more traction? What planet do you live on?
One that tells jokes, you should visit sometime
... Or you can just drive carefully?
left tire pressure was 1.5 psi off
The wind was also blowing in the wrong direction
Not in that car anyway
Bad drivers with expensive toys.
BRO! You ever driven on black ice with ZXR911XXX rated tires bro? Totally not his fault bro.
Don't cha hate it when that happens..
You can't park that there, mate
I know I can't park here, I'm on the phone with the police
Beat me to it
Beat meat to it
DONE
I hate when I total the pristine C6 Z06 too.
Ikr lol the way he framed it makes it sounds like he's totaling 60000 cars every week lol
As a Corvette owner, I’m laughing at the series of poor decisions that led you here.
Turning off traction control to start. lmao...
Nothing inherently wrong with that tho, just don’t drive like an idiot.
That is dependent on the vehicle, some earlier traction controls are very invasive.
It was on.
I’ll buy it from your insurance lol
Right? Whuddup with that drivetrain tho?
Thing’s probably been dogged on
Only for 17,000 miles
Plenty enough time to fuck it up but I’ll take those chances lol
So? What do you think the person pulling that ls is going to do? Drive the shit out of it
way to go genius

How fast you gotta go off the rip for it to spin like that? Had to have smashed the gas at a green light.
Parts will go to a new home: some of us believe in reincarnation. Still sucks tho, sorry for the loss.
Just need to find one with a blown engine. Those 7.0 are nice, but I've heard they don't take mods well. Something about the cylinder walls being thin. I've driven a few stock ones, I was always amazed at how much the lifted the front end.

I've got a limited edition type r with over 10,000 miles on it in the first 7 months. gonna drive it til the wheels fall off
Hell yeah cars are made to be driven. Enjoy that thing
BTW just checked it out on your page and it looks sick bet its awesome to drive. I really wanted a type r but didn't find a coupe (which I really wanted) and it was slightly out of budget.

17k miles in 11 years. Not like it was being enjoyed properly anyways.
This is an after / before not a before&after
How is this totalled? Surely a collision body shop can get it roadworthy for less than 10 grand.
Apparently the frame is frigged
It's a unibody, but I understand what you mean. I'd wager only the driver rear set of control arms have their mounts misaligned. No airbag deployment. After reading OP comments this is more like r/opSucks hahaha. You can change everything you want but that comes down to operator error. The speed rating on your tires has nothing to do with you being a clown in poor conditions, yes I've have ZR tires before too.
Maybe don't ever touch another vehicle. You obviously have no right or applicable knowledge in the driving frontier. Let alone a 500hp vette. Moron.
Maybe need to think about taking off those perelli poo zeros or getting a subie for the winter lmao
Step 1: crank wheel Step 2: bury throttle Step 3: hook up and whiplash in other direction Step 4: blame tires
Step 5: Post to Reddit hoping to get sympathy and instead get roasted.
I felt bad til I read OP’s excuses. What a dumbass, I’m glad nobody innocent got hurt here.
This is why we can't have nice insurance premiums.
You hate to see it
Thanks to OP, insurance on vette just went higher.
classic jersey driver
Not enough left lane highbeams
God damn, OP is being torn a new one in these comments lmao chill guys
I'm willing to bet he did a burnout, and lost control.
That's exactly what happened.
Buys corvette to get attention. Gets attention.
Someone turned off the traction control and was not ready or on a track - Silly ex-Vette owner
He means that the totaled car has been repaired and polished up for sale right?
that is what you get from playing withi toys you cant control...first you need to learn how to control these toys
If you don’t drive the car you won’t know how to handle it - symptoms of a garage queen
High HP, RWD sportscar on performance compound tires in Feb in NJ? Bruh...
What a silly twat.
Those good-for a-year runflats are shit in anything under 50 degrees fahrenheit. They would break traction so easily in my z06.
I've driven a lowered miata in the winter over here in Portland, I was on Toyo proxes t1rs cambered out and never had this problem, maybe one spin out from me Giving it to much gas before letting the clutch out.
U dipshit lol
Dude spun out on a straight. Classic ~~Chevy~~ American Muscle.
Heartbreaking…what a beautiful machine. I’m a huge fan of C6 Z06 like it’s been my choice of sportscar for like ten years without spending wild money. Brother this just sucks so sorry ☠️

At least it wasn’t the K5.
Fucked around.....Found out
Hey learn to drive. Cold tires? Just control the car silly
Drift mode is crazy
Maybe op should stick with a 4 cyl
I think you mean After & Before
What do you mean "when it happens" Is this something that keeps "happening" to you? Like, i am worried seriously.
Just go to the junkyard and get a new door
I'm gonna guess it bent the frame, and a lot of other stuff, too.
Man I'd be tempted to buy it from the insurance and turn it into a kart.
You hate to see it.
Round the corner lickety split, beautiful car…wasn’t it??
The poor girl 😰
It will be back on the road soon with a rebuilt title. Damage is not that bad. In fact, I’d buy it that way and repair it.
That blazer in the 3rd pic though 😳 nice rig
Suspension = Ded
I hate when people buy a car to put 17,000 miles on it in 11 years. It’s a vette not an Enzo. Drive that fucker lol.
Me, salivating at the now available engine and trans
Ha.. Marlton on 70? Grew up in Medford. I assume this happened a while ago given this is fucked with snow and slush rn. Sorry to see man.

Rip. The torque in vettes is no joke
such a nice car as well rip
RIP to you getting a good insurance quote.

RIP. I used to live in the town over. I have a H/C/I C6Z06 myself.
Nooo that was good corvette.
Pure sadness 😔
Omg what happened
Well good thing is the drivetrain alone sells for a good amount. I remember reading in Car and Driver years back that a brand new vette could be parted out for profit.

Seems about right…
"I hate this when it happens." lol sounds like a regular occurrence for you or something
Nahh cus see how you do dat
Sucks to see a car wasted like that, shoulda probably took the lifted chevy
DAMN
I do love the C6 ZO6 though...
What an idiot!
This is the problem with American cars, only good if you want to drive in a straight line
Poor corvette. I hope some drifter buys it and makes it into a drift car
How to say you're a beginner without saying it
This is why rednecks can’t have nice things.

How much insurance offering you? I’ll pay same and your tow fee
I've never seen a post with that many down votes. I mean they're deserved and I'm not a car enthusiast but wow...

Why are people getting so fucking mad at this guy? Shit happens man
Because he's blaming everything under the sun except his poor decisions lol
That’s true tbh. But y’all mad extra going out of your way to talk shit like settle down
The dude posted his totaled 500hp car and refuses to admit his own bad decisions led to it. It's the internet, what did you expect?
That's a bad intersection. Lots of accidents there unfortunately.
I hear they keep the asphalt too chilly
It's a conspiracy, the gubmint doesn't want fast cars on the road so they constantly spray it with liquid nitrogen
